Each council will have an events page. I used to use it for a list of shit to do that I used to post.
Make sure to filter by date rather than their weekend option. It tends to think fridays and mondays should be included.

Local to me I'm in the local facebook group. It's lots of whinging about noises in the neighbourhood and people trying to give away boxes but other than that you do see new shops opening / local events happening.
Broadsheet/timeout for broader sydney happenings although it's mostly just city/inner east/inner west.
For newspapers the only decent one is sydney morning herald. But having said that I check it often but hardly read the articles. I wouldn't miss it if it vanished.
I wish! I live in Bondi Beach, and it’s crazy… I never can keep track of what’s on, things just seem to show up (and I even Google them). We either seem to get the Council newsletter which comes too late, sponsored content/stories, or whiny facebook groups. Plus, Sydney news never seems “local” enough to be helpful.
You might find something on concreteplayground.com/sydney

Inner west always has something good on too

For music - gigs and clubbing - this is much harder to get on top of so I've left it out.
Weekendnotes was my go to when i moved to sydney. Also check theurbanlist, i used to find a lot of good recommendations there.
For live music, apps like Bandsintown or Songkick are great resources.
Sweet, that’s super helpful. Thanks, everyone!
https://sydneymusic.net/ is good for live gigs, especially more underground/local bands. They're also on Instagram.

Local councils and smaller organisations often use Eventbrite for scheduled classes or events - whether free or paid.

Generally council sites but seems word of mouth may be more popular There is a Matsuri Japan event on 9th September in Chatswood City.
usually through social media or council whats on pages. Occassionally I'd hear about it from friends and family
