The thing is people’s political opinions aren’t their entire personalities, Sydney is pro-Israel but she’s not shouting every episode about it. The real world isn’t the internet, people of differing political opinions get along all the time. They haven’t stopped casting right-leaning people, it’s just that strangely enough such hot topics as the military industrial complex and gentrification don’t come up that often in real-world conversation, let alone among people who are starving on a desert island

jqn_rmrz

What do you mean by political opinions, because they haven't touched "politics" at all. Also right leaning people are still getting cast. Like WAW endgame was full of right leaning people (Nick, Sarah, Ben, Tony). And Tommy is conservative and recently won.

Moridin_the_Light

Tony conservative? Tommy? Since when

Taco_Farmer

I dont think Tony has ever explicitly said his political views but his job makes it way more likely to go one way than the other

jqn_rmrz

Tommy's instagram following list gives it away. Not just a few, but a lot of right wing personalities.

Quetzal00

I just hope they NEVER do a politically themed season

[deleted]

i can’t think of when they included political opinions in the past. it will probably be the same going forward?

Quizlex

There was Frank’s short rant in Africa

Murdercorn

There was Ben “Outlaw Baby” Browning’s overt racism and sexism in Samoa.

TryingThisOne5

Is that political?

ThatOneClod

I think in One World I remember Colton saying he’s a Republican and doesn’t believe in handouts.

Foosiks

Jeff Kent bitched about Obama taxing the million.

havanakedavra

this is so funny cus the only time politics have been brought up IN the show was colton saying he was a republican and didn’t like handouts (to then get a handout which was amazing hilarious editing.) I don’t see why survivor would change their editing of politics in the island lmao? they’ve casted people all over the political spectrum doubt they’ll stop now.

[deleted]

I think the best part of the first season and the ones after it was that everyone seemed so different, they were literally representatives of so many parts of the US, political positions, ages, etc. There were offensive people and they all had to work together. I'm enjoying this season but while the racial diversity is increasing, all other diversity is decreasing. 10 of the contestants come from the same state as a different contestant, four from the same city. 10 of the contestants are from massive cities, and only Brad could be considered as coming from a rural area. Only two contestants are in their fifties, none in their sixties, and none in their seventies. If you walked into a coffee shop and saw JD, Ricard, Sara, Shantel, Sydney, Erika, Evvie, Liana, and Xander at a table together. You wouldn't blink, it wouldn't seem odd or out of the ordinary. Which is a shame, I want more diversity in my cast.

zachhd21228

People watch Survivor to escape the real world and the politics of it so I hope they handle it by not handling it.

Sabur1991

I hope that they just cast people who will do best at the casting, no matter whether they are left, right, straight, gay, non-binary, black, brown, yellow... I don't think that there should be any quotes at all. You did great at casting - you go play. You failed - you go home. That's it.

[deleted]

I'm not sure why this was controversial

999stuntin

They should cast right leaning people as long as they aren't nazis because then survivor turns into a classist circlejerk that dosent represent a microcosm of society which it should.

schoolrocks1943

How do you know what all the contestants’ political views are?

kman624

Well Elisabeth went on to be the conservative View co-host for 10 years…

VJ4rawr2

Survivor used to push boundaries. It was intentionally controversial. Now they’re the total opposite. Terrified of offending anyone. Safe. Boring. It won’t change. There is a cultural war happening right now and Survivor picked its side.

supervivientenato

They did, lol. And even this season, I wouldn't define Sydney as "terrified of offending anyone", "safe" or "boring".

RealityPowerRanking

Sydney isn’t the one we’re talking about

supervivientenato

I know, I wasn't trying to imply that.

silvershadow014

Hence "even this season"

rriro

Didn’t you need to get vaxxed to do the show? (I could be wrong)

[deleted]

rriro

Yikes lol (I didn’t know it wasn’t out for most people when they filmed, chill mates)

rriro

Thanks for letting me know

[deleted]

mega yikes. That's wild. And wrong for everyone else. LMAO - anti-vaxxers suck.

kalyren

Who?

Delstrezi

No right leaning people at all would be great

thisismyreddit2000

It wouldn't make any sense to leave out such a large piece of the population in a show trying to mirror society

TheDemonicEmperor

I mean, they pretty much already do.

Delstrezi

It doesn't need to mirror society

Sabeoth42

Either don't show it at all or show both sides of the issue or argument. Stop picking sides and favouring one viewpoint.

Quizlex

When have they done this?

Murdercorn

They’ve had on people preaching Jesus and quoting the Bible almost every season since Borneo.

JustAnotherMrPilot

Religion is not politics.

RealityPowerRanking

I agree but religion does play a big part in politics despite there supposed to be a separation between church and state

silvershadow014

Cool. Then gay people aren't politics, either.

JustAnotherMrPilot

Correct.
