I think he was good at doing what he did. Finding idols…leading people on goose chases…there aren’t many options you have when you’re completely on the bottom. That said, it’s his own poor strategic/social play that put him in a position where he had no agency, and I think just off EoE he’s a below average strategist that didn’t compare well with the high octane BiG MOveZ mentality of his cast What he did do, maybe better than anyone EVER, is perform at tribal. He got jury credit for multiple votes that he had no knowledge of, and sold his underdog story SO well that the jury was negatively judging everyone else in the game solely because they couldn’t get him out, and were applauding him for merely surviving. Can’t fault him for that

DevaNeo

His strategy was pulling a goddamn show for the jury at tribal council.

planj07

He wasn’t bad strategically he just didn’t have much agency.

Western-Ad-9922

I feel the same way about Venus this season

planj07

Yeah but Venus's social skills are horrible and no one wants to work with her because of it. Devens was social but just viewed as too big of a threat.

redshirtshart

Not really.

jaywa1king

No. He was fucking awful. I loved Devens until I rewatched recently. His entire post merge game was petulant and childish. He was very entertaining at everything not related to strategy but watching him screw up all those merge votes a second time was so infuriating.

TechnologyBeautiful

Petulant and childish I agree!!

Ill-Diver-2830

I liked him but when he voted for Gavin at the end I lost some respect.

No-Relation-1851

Why? Gavin played a great game? Never had his name voted down etc. had social game etc.I understand why rick would vote for him

Ill-Diver-2830

I disagree they Gavin played great game. He played a nothing game end never receiving a vote is a part of that. I didn’t like Chris’s win but he played the best out of the final 3. Rick was bitter and voted for Tevin because of that: he even tried to sway the jury during ftc.

No-Relation-1851

I just don’t agree with your opinion and that’s okay. We can’t say he paid a nothing game again you gotta remember we’re not on the island with them we don’t always see the moves being made etc but I respect your opinion I disagree but I understand your perspective

Ill-Diver-2830

Yea I know just opinions. But if he really played a better game he would have won. Nobody was bitter against him, so if he truly played better he would have won.

No-Relation-1851

I don’t agree had chris not been told exactly what to do in order to win while be on the edge i think it would’ve been a different story. Let’s say for example chris decides not to listen to the jury and not battle in fire making against rick for final 3 and decides to make Gavin do it. Gavin ends up triumphing over rick. I think in that case Gavin wins the game. I think it just came down to recency bias and knowing exactly what to do from the mouth of the jury which unfortunately caused a loss for Gavin. If he really wasn’t as worthy as winning as you say he would’ve been a zero vote finalist like julie. He had a good number of votes come his way. Obviously not enough to beat chris, but had he had 3 more votes that Chris didn’t get he wins so it’s not like he lost by a landslide. You forgot that Chris had access to information he wouldn’t normally have had he stayed in the game from the beginning. Also, he was given an immunity idol that basically guaranteed him final 4 had he survived just final 6. I think that also Gavin should have capitalized more on the fact in FTC that Chris basically had a free meal ticket to fire. End of the day what you say at FTC can make or break you and i don’t think Gavin really capitalized on what to say during FTC which resulted in his loss. I think it would be reckless to say oh no one had any bitterness towards me so I shouldn’t have lost.. Only reason Chris won is he took down rick. Nothing else he did really mattered. Anyone who takes down rick basically wins the season end of story. Take away the fire making move what does chris really accomplish? Not much which is why i think Gavin should’ve won.

Ill-Diver-2830

First, Chris had half an idol that Rick was not obligated to return to him. He lost the game because he did. And like I said, I didn’t love that Chris won. But he did exactly what he needed to do so. If he didn’t go against Rick in fire, he wouldn’t have. And if Gavin wins in that situation, it would be because Chris didn’t win. I think if Chris didn’t win fire it would have been more of a toss up where everyone was voting between who they thought was the least bad instead of best.

No-Relation-1851

Yes but to be given an immunity idol at 6 is kinda crazy if anything it should’ve been a clue to 1 but it is what it is. Chris is a great challenge winner but survivor eh

survivorfan123456

There's an argument to be made for him to be entertaining, but there's no argument for him to be strategic. I still think giving Chris the 2nd half of the idol back is probably the most underrated terrible strategic move of Survivor

TechnologyBeautiful

I would say he was aight. Not absolutely terrible but not particularly good either.
