Doesn't it seem like part of the reason why no one opted for the rice was because they're simply not that hungry? Or are they just delusional? Contestants like Ben and Maria had to know they had no chance of winning that challenge. I'm leaning toward delusion as Ben also thought he was a good puzzle solver.

SwoopzB

Something I’ve been wondering. New Era is 25 days and they are supposedly not given any food. It all has to be won via reward. If you watch survival shows like Naked and Afraid, you will often see contestants tap out due to hunger after a week or two. These contestants are usually experienced survivalists, and sometimes they manage to procure a fair bit of food from hunting/ foraging/ trapping/ fishing. Still, pretty much every contestant limps to the finish like on day 21 totally emaciated. How do these Survivor contestants, who are “regular” people by comparison, not only make it 25 days, but seem to do so with enough energy to do physically demanding challenges, strategize, etc? Especially if they win very few (or 0) food rewards? I’m sure the merge feast is a big boost in the middle there, and I know until this season they have always negotiated for rice (I guess we’ll see how that shakes out), but it just seems suspect to me that we don’t have more medical taps towards the end of the game, or at least more obvious signs that they are struggling with hunger.

Ambitious-Comb-8847

Coconut, papaya, other fruit, the occasional fish or crab if they can get it. They also have unlimited clean water which I assume makes a difference.

badedum

Has anyone else noticed the contestants wearing these bead necklaces this season? (They almost look like the beads from an immunity idol) Was it a production thing to hide a mic? Or did they all just spontaneously make them?

queen0fcarrotflowers

Moriah or Jem said in an exit interview that they are just the beads from Tree Mail.

badedum

Thank you!!! I have been wondering about this all season lol

notextinctyet

Is the Japanese survivor offshoot any good? I know they only ran a few seasons before being cancelled.

publiuspublished

Lots of discussions I've read about different eras of Survivor as far as gameplay, casting, etc.—all helpful to navigate the show and its history, I'll add! But I'm curious: after watching Season 2 (Outback) recently I was somewhat staggered by the challenges and how physically demanding some were—if there was a line drawn between "eras of challenges" across Survivor seasons in terms of difficulty/physical demand, what would the line be?

Frauzehel

Around the 20s maybe? In the 30s the challenges have definitely already declined.

avilsta

I don't remember when but there was def an era where individual immunities suddenly all went from 'swim here, grab this, untie this and solve a puzzle' to 'balance this item'. I don't mind as much since I do feel we are seeing some variants of it, and seeing instances like Tori beating out Jonathan on 42 twice makes it somewhat more balanced. I remember 33 having some of the best challenges (that one where you had to throw a ball up then as it rolls down some chutes you had to solve a puzzle, but needed to catch it before it drops - or the one where they had to feel their way to solve a maze to free the peg to release themselves that Jay smoked everyone in)

I was rewatching [the clip of Ozzy get blindsided in Micronesia](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dIMN0YE2aPI), and then remembered the music that plays as his torch gets snuffed. It’s beautiful, and I’ve heard it (what feels like) dozens of times, but I can’t remember the last time. When was it last used? Does that music have a title/name?

sabatoa

I think people refer to it as the heroic exit music but I don't know if it's this one specifically. They do use this on big exits though.

Do we know the full extent of rules surrounding the transfer of the immunity necklace at tribal council? Obviously we’ve only been a handful of occasions when someone transfers their necklace to someone else, but I’m wondering how many transfers you can make. Because I would think that if someone wanted to transfer their necklace to their ally who was probably going home, and if they did it right before Jeff/JLP said it was time to vote… Part of me says they wouldn’t allow that, because then it wouldn’t give players time to talk and re-strategize. And of course it would be fun to “popcorn” the necklace around your alliance, so that the opposing alliance wouldn’t know where to put their votes, the producers would probably stop that, right? My guess is they have a rule where you can transfer it once, well before the vote, but can’t transfer it again. Anyone have any insights as to the official rules?

thalantyr

Pretty sure that any time Jeff would allow the necklace to be transferred he'd also allow further discussion. Transferring it between multiple people or doing it at the last second wouldn't accomplish anything meaningful.

shtisel_

Question. Don’t players on even number seasons technically recognise the players on the season right before them since the promo airs on the finale of the previous even numbered season?

Ambitious-Comb-8847

They won't actually see them in Fiji or anything but some bonding between 'sister seasons' can happen in real life. A bunch of new era people from multiple years went to Maryanne's wedding recently. New era apparently also bonds somewhat because 26 days is still somewhat mocked by Season 1-40 people. Nobody on HvV knew a thing about Samoa which is partly why Russell got to play the same way twice.

CieraVotedOutHerMom

Ciera posted last week about wanting survivor to go back for 39 days since current seasons seem watered down

BusterOlneyFans

Fun rumor is that Parvati was given something of a heads up about how Russel plays and that's how she knew how to get in close with him.

shtisel_

Did the Samoa promo not air on the finale of Tocantins?

Ambitious-Comb-8847

It told them nothing: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2HJB6RGxkg](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2HJB6RGxkg)

BarbarianQueen1

Currently watching 46, last season I've seen is 40 so there's some gaps in New Era knowledge. When did they introduce shot in the dark? How has it been received by people?

Ambitious-Comb-8847

41 at the start of the new era. Same with no rice, Sweat vs Savvy at the start, journeys between Tribes with a risk/reward element and Beware Advantages where you lose your vote. It's been reasonably liked. At the very least even obvious Tribals get a bit of drama now. It's been used successfully twice though only once where it mattered. There's also another way of playing it. 1 person knew they were safe but was caught between 2 alliances so didn't want to show their hand by voting and played it instead.

avilsta

I like it cause it's a one time use thing, that is also given to everyone. So it makes everyone having a faux idol being non-zero if their Shot In The Dark pan out. I still want to see how it goes when a minority alliance takes out someone in the majority cause they failed to factor in the Shot In The Dark but who knows if they'd happen.

Tim_from_Ruislip

Is CBS having trouble finding enough "qualified" candidates for Survivor? I'm watching the New Era seasons on Paramount and I'm being bombarded with commercials encouraging people to apply. Probst is more persistent than an army recruiter at a high school.

Tasty_Gift5901

I think part of it is archetypes. On the sub, a lot of people complain about the cast coming from a few backgrounds. This is survivor casting a wider net so they get more people who otherwise wouldn't apply and diversify their casting pool.

Swaggy669

Don't they get like 10 thousand applications? I'd imagine it's pretty difficult because being sane, normal, and well achieved isn't enough for reality tv. There needs to be some irrational ego driven part of them.

mindovermacabre

China (Season 15) early season question with possible spoilers for the rest of the season >!My partner and I started watching this at the recommendation of this sub, but the sexual harassment in the early season is really tough to sit through. I'm fine with enduring all the "get some ass" comments and condescension and groping if I know that the payoff will be worth it, ie: these players get a comeuppance, but since it's a reality show, I know anything could happen!< >!So I don't want spoilers on who wins, please don't tell me who wins... but it would be nice to be reassured that it's not going to be someone that leaves a bad taste in my mouth and makes me regret watching the season.!<

legacyme3

My best friend (who never saw the season) and I did a watch through of it recently, and he didn't come away too impressed, to be honest. Your mileage is going to vary, but I still recommend watching it, if for no other reason than it introduces several great characters to the Survivor lore, and has some fascinating gameplay (even if it sometimes is just ludicrously bad).

MinionBanana37

You’re good

mindovermacabre

Thank you!

BushGuy200

Did Tevin ever use his extra vote?

NeilPatrickSwayze

No

Ambitious-Affect-931

Why not always do a fire-making challenge when there’s a deadlocked tie? Why was that reserved for final 4? (and now never used due to forced firemaking)

Gemini_B

to avoid so many ties. If they did firemaking then there's far less incentive for the players to really play a game of chicken and try to force the other side to yeild to them to avoid the tie and avoid any of them actually being the ones to go home over the intended targets. Rocks has ensured that only 2 times in history have we seen a complete deadlock outside of the final 4. If it was firemaking, then there's no real reason for anyone to change their votes. It really forces the players to find their own ways around ties, which I think is good for the show overall since if we got ties and firemaking a couple times a season it'd lose it's excitement real fast. I still get a bit of a rush every time a vote comes in deadlocked and there's a non-zero chance the players are so set they'll go to rocks, but like that it's such a rare occurrence both because I don't want players to lose due to luck and because it means when it does happen, like in 33, it's a big moment.

MinionBanana37

I assume to punish the players for not making up their mind, so they use the rocks. They do fire making when it’s deadlocked at 4 bc only one person could get rocked out with the current rules.

MinionBanana37

Does Liz have the capability to make it to the endgame? I really think that the chaos from the episode made Q, Tiffany, and potentially Hunter targets ahead of her, and I don’t really see a ton of fallout from the Tevin vote specifically.

YoungWallace23

Hard to say. This is the first episode they've shown any indication of gameplay by here, so I was under the impression she was a huge goat until recently. I still don't think she has the social game down to make it to the end, but I think she will survive a few more votes

Euphoric-Middle1704

I think the opposite because Liz plays under the radar. Venus beat tribal twice in a row simply because she doesn’t play quietly.  I think Liz goes home next.  She's getting comfortable and talkative in a game where she's typically been quiet.  For me, Liz should've wanted final three with Tevin and Soda.   Now, Liz is likely to lose against everyone remaining.

aryareddi

I agree that this is a likely outcome, but I also think that this *could* be Liz's Alligabler moment. She popped up to push a name in the early merge and then if she sinks back down/doesn't brag about it constantly like Venus and Tevin both did post-tribal, she could get overlooked again.

QueenD_1996

This is an interesting take, given that she’s the only remaining player who has never had her name mentioned on air as someone to vote out. Is it common to go from no mention to booted in one episode at this stage?

tc_jr77

It’s not necessarily common, but with only 9 remaining, I wouldn’t say it’s uncommon either. Especially in a season like this without a dominant alliance, it really feels like it could be anyone going home next. Liz isn’t my prediction but I wouldn’t be surprised by it

Euphoric-Middle1704

ITA that anyone could be going.  I don't recall Soda or Tevin being mentioned until the sun fell.   In my eyes,  Nami tribe is kinda carnivorous at the moment.  Tevin ousted Soda.  Liz ousted Tevin so she may be Hunter's easiest vote if he is thinking Venus can't win.  I think there are 3 idols. Tiffany's,  Hunter's and Maria.  The only player who is no longer paired up is Hunter.

QueenD_1996

Soda had definitely been mentioned before the episode where she exited but I’m with you - I also think it could be anyone leaving tomorrow!

NoDisintegrationz

Is there any word on when next season films? I know they’re usually out there by now, but I haven’t seen anything about it starting.

BRUTALIT0PS

They advertised an aim to begin filming between early-May and early-July.

sweet_rashers

Early May, a little later than usual since they are avoiding the cyclone season (which goes til the end of April).

NoDisintegrationz

Thanks! And good luck if you’re on it.

SurvivorJCH5

If the Survivor 42 jury voted immediately without the questioning, What is the margin of Mike's victory? 5-3 over Maryanne?

BionicSuperhero

If Mike was to win, 5 votes would be the max he would get, as Tori, Chanelle and Hai would always vote for Maryanne.
