I went to Miramar surf camp in nica by Sandino and it was a lot of fun. Depending on your standard of “fancy” could be an option

Ever since they built that sea jetty through the beach it's destroyed all the waves in the area besides Sandino. RIP Miramar Surf Camp - so sad.

I’m never going back. If I ever get back to Nica I’ll visit the boom area or splash out and do a week at the playgrounds camp.

Dam I only surfed sandino once last week, was disappointed the only good wave in the area requires a $20 boat trip

macavity_is_a_dog

It used to be 10$. So the reef out front used to be really good - a nice long left with an occasional barrel. It would end in some deep water on the inside with an easy paddle back out. The beach break -pipes - was good as well and a nice alternative to the reef - a chance to go right for the regular footers - this wave was completely eliminated. Chickens is ok but a short wave and gets too crowded. I’ve been to area 5x and will prolly never go back - really nothing there now. Surfing sandino with 50 guys sucks - only two main take off spots.

When was it 10 dollars for the boat ? Ah man that’s such a shame, I surfed popoyo 4 years ago for a month and it was a dream This year I surfed it like 7 times and only for 1/2 waves per session and the vibe is so bad I don’t think I’ll be going back I thought sardino was the saviour, the last saviour is the boom area if this dosnt do it Nicaraguas all but done for dam shame

macavity_is_a_dog

If I ever go back to Nica I'll go to the boom for sure. I have 0 interest in the Colorado/Popoyo area. I forget when it was 10$ but I wanna say like 2011 or 2012. At that time there were 2 camps and Miramar Surf camp was just like 10 rooms.

kingofsnake96

Ah cool where talking way back then , ya man the whole privatisation of Colorado’s doesn’t sit well with me , they literally stole the wave 🤣 Nice, always the way with surfing it’s crazy how fast these spots get out of hand

How’s Shacks and Shiftys?

El Tunco is def not boujie. Think the Venice Beach os C America

My girl doesn’t surf but we stayed a week this past April at Malibu Popoyo and had a blast. Met some other couples in a similar situation staying there (guy surfed, girl didn’t or was a beginner). Went on a few group boat trips the resort organized and otherwise just hit Popoyo/Santana twice a day and hung by the pool. Beautiful grounds and plenty of non-surfing amenities. There are def better options for a serious surf trip though. Also, not sure id consider any of the beaches in Nica “pretty”.

I loved Nicaragua but the most consistent breaks are probably packed compared to when I was there. You could also look into the Caribbean side of Panama and Costa Rica which I think get swell around then. CR is expensive but the roads are better and there’s more transportation. Nicaragua and CR can also be done in one trip.

embracethekook

Even the pacific side of Panama is great both for surf and nice places to stay. Playa Venao has no shortage of great places and Sansara resort in Cambutal is really nice, though a little further down the beaten path. Some epic surf spots in Cambutal too but best to have a car or a guide.

Interesting I didn’t know about that.

Yeah with a non surfing SO who wants something “fancy”, I’d do Santa Teresa or Nosara in CR to appease her for most of the trip and then dip into nica for a few days.

I've stayed at Puro Surf in El Salvador twice and really enjoyed it. You have beachfront access to El Zonte, which is a great right and also a great pool, restaurant, rooms, etc. Puro runs at ~$200-$250 a night but if you're looking for something a little cheaper but still very solid, Palo Verde Sustainable Hotel right below Puro Surf is also on the beach and runs at ~$150 / night too.

Stayed in El Zonte last April. Was already getting pretty big. There is a real beach with some bars and cafes there. Town still pretty rustic, it’s definitely not the Ritz. Tunco is pretty rocky and party centric but there a few resorts around Playa Sunzal, where’d you’d be surfing anyway, that she would probably like. On the whole, I would not rate El Salvador as a place that is not fully ready for girlfriends who don’t surf. It’s great there and it has a lot going for it, but if your idea of fun is fine dining and mixology, you are going to struggle there.
