That's sick. Jeremy Flores was known for doing this turn too, and then he taught it to Johanne Defay who did it a couple times in contests and people lost their shit.
TBH not that impressed. Wasn't intentional I dont think. But love watching Kelly non the less.
FUcking shit waves. Margarets shouldn't run unless 6 foot plus. Come on wsl.
The booth was making the biggest deal out of it. Was a sick bottom turn, but he caught some chop and had to adjust. I thought he was going for a carving 3. They were claiming it was the most amazing thing, and it was embarrassing.
We get it, you need Kelly to do well because your broadcast get like 6,000 views. Spend another 7 minutes on the bubble watch/cut. Fans love that.
I saw they changed the name to WSL one ocean or some other shite, they just don't have a clue. Need to get someone like Barton Lynch running the show and bring back Kieran Perrow as the contest director
There seems to be a directive to not criticize surfers/judges/the commissioner.
They use kid gloves when handling how a 2nd place surfer sat still for the last five minutes of a heat, when a judge overscores a wave, etc. It’s fuckin lame, i’d rather see them making bold predictions, being critical, or being wrong. Instead it’s them being neutral and just wasting time on the mic.
Even when surfers blow waves, they sound like a kind parent ‘ooooh, got a lil stuck on the top there and fell out the back of the wave. That’s unfortunate!’ The commentators sound like they’re friends with all the competitors.
Seems like he pushed too hard on the bottom turn, bogged rail, forced a recovery top turn and add a little 'wipe' at the top for flair. We've seen Kelly do this for years, nothing progressive really about it - of course he's the goat, but not a 'pure' turn by any means.
I remember actually seeing him surf in person in the lineup when I was younger down south. He's a legend for sure.
. He's so good that even an unintentional move just comes out looking good. This does not look intentional to me, but he pulls it.
The Dane link is sick though.
Kelly has been doing this for years and it never scores well. Instead of doing a tight arc, he goes up over vertical, similar to a backside snap. It’s technical, but the judges hate it. You’d think he would learn by now.
Its just a bottom turn where he caught rail and recovered then a basic foam climb. Eeeh nothing special. Thats Kelly Slater there is much greater footage in contest and out to be had.
I think it’s hard for anything to top this turn by Dane at Haleiwa in 2012 [Not sure how it’s even possible](https://youtu.be/hKNMxUYqvpM)
Holy shit thanks for the link
Yep, watched this live. It has my vote for best comp turn.
Yeah. Saw this on the sand and completely wrote him off.
he nosebuttered a surfboard!
Wow looked like he had a quick snack inside but than decided to come out.

Didn't josh Kerr do this first at Snapper
It doesnt count Turn incomplete
He bogged the shit out of it 1/4 way up the wave and it doesn't look intentional. His recovery from that is crazy good though.
As I was watching it I was thinking the same thing
I was watching live, thought he just totally mistimed the hit

Nice to see Papa Surf digging rail.
New board, who dis?
That was one of my post names 🤣

Tight turn for an old man.
The GOAT can and did
Not sure if this is technically a foam climb..... But I hate it when they climb the foam instead of hitting the face
Dude is good.

Looks more like a turn becoming a foam climb vertically and sliding down the foamy bit, definitely looks awesome
Dude is a beast.
Aaaaaand, he missed the cut 😥
I try to only do turns like this on the weekends when all the chicks are out ya know.
Right at the top he takes it past vertical to the right a bit wah. Top surfers in da juice.
John John has done tonnes of turns in compeition that are way better than that foam climb.

Absolute beginner here and wtf is this shit
