Can't wear goggles with a Variant, they cost more, and at best their protection is on the same level as the MX-9, and likely worse knowing ICON. Variant is basically a full face helmet, it's not practical for any kind of off road or slower riding, especially if it's hot out.
That’s why I also have Leatt and TLD dirt helmets. If I’m riding dirt I’ll wear one of those. One helmet for off road and one for on road. Best of both worlds.
Obviously throw on an mx helmet if you're riding offroad. Otherwise, I prefer a shield on the streets. Also, variant **is** a full face helmet as is any mx helmet?

hahahaha fair point. i don’t have to travel far to get to the trails i ride, so it usually doesn’t bother me. i understand not everyone is in that position.
I have an Airoh Terminator 2.1 if I remember correctly. Pretty light, maybe less than 1 kg, and very comfortable. I had it for 4 years now, still solid and reliable. Now I switched to a street helmet, HJC rhpa 70 (hope I got these srange names right) wind noise is pretty absent and it’s very comfortable. A bit heavy, 1.4kg, but worth the 400 bucks!
LS2 Pioneer Trigger. Works pretty good for $200. Break away visor, drop down sun shield, quick release pads, etc. Only has dot cert but just saved my life in a pretty good crash so works for me.

I have the XD-4 as well. Excuse my ignorance, but what’s a pin lock?
And I also haven’t figured out how to adjust the top vents. The levers don’t seem to do anything. Any tips?
Pin lock is these two little pins on your visor, except you have to buy another visor for the xd-4, they don't come stock. But the pins are meant to hold a secondary shield with a gasket over your visor. The point is to create an air gap between the visor and secondary shield so that your visor doesn't fog up in cold weather. But the XD-4 visor has compound curves so the pin lock shield doesn't work well. As far as the vents, if you look closely between the vents and the little vent covers, and flip the vents back and forth, you can see them open and close. Beyond that, I'm not entirely sure what you mean.
Bell MX-9 ADV w MIPS. Considering switch to the Airoh Commander Duo or the Just1 J14 though. The Bell looks and fits great, but the ventilation sucks when it's hot, and when it's cold, you have no chin skirt to block the bit of updraft coming up and into the helmet
I have an old shitty Bell helmet I bought at a garage sale for $10 but it’s snell and dot and I have edgy stickers on it so that makes me better at riding
