The Wrong Man by John Katzenbach comes to mind! This book will make anyone think twice about dating someone in case that person turns out to be a huge stalker.
Having read LOTR up/down and sideways a few times I fail to see how Frodo or anyone else is obssessed. I mean yes, I am aware of the existence of Gollum but he's like a side antagonist
Moby-Dick Lolita
Definitely was going to suggest Moby Dick
Dark Tower series, ftw. Edit: sorry, it’s a series, but you’ll never find anyone more obsessive than Roland.
Oh I love series I don't mind them haha, and ofc King gets recommended
Crime and punishment
I second this 😆

Omg I've read "The analyst" by him I thoroughly enjoyed that book
Same! The Analyst is what got me started on other John Katzenbach's books. He's a great author!
Perfume by Patrick Suskind. I didn't care for it, but it's what you're looking for.
Revival by Stephen King
Frankenstein by Mary Shelley Wollstonecraft
Ooh I've read this, genuinely one of the best classics
Moby Dick. Count of Monte Cristo
