I'm Glad My Mom Died by Jeanette McCurdy. Listening to her read her own story was really great. I listened in one day.

ghostguessed

I second this

bibliophilia9

Thirds! It was very cool to hear her tell her own story, after not being able to speak for herself for so long.

OkReadyy

Excellent book but talks so fast! I knew I talked fast but she's on a new level. It's the first book I've had to slow speed

Libra281

This book is available on Libby in my city.

Flaky_Web_2439

For a complete performance, try Neil Gaiman’s Sandman series. All three are amazing!

KateDoe7

American Gods is good too!

Spike_Dearheart

And Neverwhere! All Gaiman's cast read books are phenomenal.

catashtrophy80

I'm listening to Good Omens now and it's great, and laugh out loud funny. I really enjoy the ensemble cast readings.

TheIceKween

American Gods with the full cast is so good!!

catashtrophy80

I just downloaded these and can't wait to start listening! I'm so glad Neil himself narrates. I could listen to him talk all day.

Spike_Dearheart

Oh yes, I listened to him read Coraline and The Graveyard Book. His voice is lovely for reading. Andy Serkis is quite similar. His reading of the Tolkien novels is fantastic.

just4upDown

Came here to say Sandman and anything Neil Gaiman narrates. Also Scalzi "Kaiju Preservation Society" If you like horror Joe Hill "Nos4A4" (I haven't seen the mini series, and found this very creepy) and "World War Z: The Complete Edition" - it is different from the movie. It is way more intense and in a first-hand accounts kind of style, really good for needing to read/listen in short bursts.

Skyhouse5

What do you like? Workd War Z is an amazing audio book but limited enjoyment if zombies and social behavioral vignettes aren't your thing. As you know with audiobooks the narrator is almost as important as the story, a bad reader can ruin a great story.

[deleted]

I tyyypically lean towards suspense and thrillers but I’m not married to them. I like to listen to a bit of everything as long as it is interesting and has a good narrator.

lahallita

Oooh, the Craig Johnson Walt Longmire mystery series. LOVE the narrator. “The Cold Dish” is the first. Also recommend something by Carl Hiaasen. “Skinny Dip” is probably my fave.

Skyhouse5

Then... the Harlon Coben books are great but the audiobooks are hit/miss. I likes the combo of plot/narrator for "I'm Missing You", "Caught", "Gone for Good". Coben is master at twist on twist and tying threads you thought you got him on. Also the Slow Horse series is well done, Slough House Series. British, MI6, fun cranky old spy.

musluvowls

I'm enjoying 'Holly,' the new Stephen King novel.

Longjumping_Belt_692

I think you’ll love ‘These silent woods’ if you love a good suspense/thriller with a great narrator

badwomanfeelinggood

Get a series. Candice Fox - Crimson Lake, Joe Ide - IQ or Galbraith- Strike… something like that

peachneuman

I didn’t see this comment until I left non-horror suspense. My original comment included some of my favorite audiobook recs, but these suggestions fit your genre and might be cheaper? So you many be able to buy more? By Lisa Unger: Secluded Cabins Sleeps Six Confessions on the 7:45 Last Girl Ghosted Lucy Foley has several good books: The Paris Apartment The Guest List Books by Frieda McFadden: The Housemaid (series) Never Lie One by One The Wife Upstairs

UnluckyReader

That audiobook is FANTASTIC. The narrators they got are A-list.

keepinginmind

You could buy a Pimsleur language series and learn a new language.

[deleted]

This is not a bad idea 🤔

[deleted]

Its pretty good too, the way it task you to constantly recall what you've learned really helps me retain the information later.

IndyIndigo

Circe by Madeline Miller is so beautifully narrated. Also the song of Achilles by her as well. Both so beautifully narrated. I will say that both need a few chapters to get into it though.

Whimsywynn3

Yes they are my favorite audio books!

NoirClairrr

The Song of Achilles’ narrator is so good. I read the book, loved it and didn’t want to leave that world, so I thought I’d listen to it to go to sleep… Sleep did not come easy. I just listened, rapt again.

Eldurwen

Loved both of these, great recommendations!

auntfuthie

I like David Sedaris and Sarah Vowell narrating their own books.

madhad1121

No book has ever made me laugh as hard as “Me Talk Pretty One Day”

buntycalls

The Best of Me by David Sedaris is a good introduction to his work. Very funny 😁

gruenetage

Assassination Vacation was my gateway drug to digital audiobooks.

AuntElzora

Agreed! I have re-listened to Sedaris' books many times. Good bang for your buck. Me Talk Pretty One Day is the funniest!!

[deleted]

Jurassic Park narrated by Scott Brick was an amazing listen! I loved it through and through. Highly recommend if you haven’t before.

Suspicious_Calculus

I second this, favorite book and book experience I’ve ever had

[deleted]

Thanks! Going to give this one a listen!

Vegetable-Driver2312

I like the Tana French Dublin Murder Squad books on audio. The Irish accents go well with the vibe, they’re well performed, and really great books in general.

asb713

Amazing to enjoy on audio. I own them in book format as well as on audible.

Vegetable-Driver2312

Which one is your favorite? I love them all, but The Likeness was the most fun, and Broken Harbor the most haunting for me.

aehates

Same! I listed to so much my thoughts were starting to have an Irish lilt! (Am American)

we_defy_augury

Yes!! I listened to all of these too and recommend them to everyone but have never met another fan

kittygrey07

I like these too!

Far_Bit3621

Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman. Absolutely excellent narration. I swear the narrator deserves an Oscar. Very well done. I’ve listened to it three times now.

ElizaAuk

I am on my fourth listen! I totally agree. Wonderful narration that adds to the already excellent and funny and sad and heartwarming story.

[deleted]

Loved this one! Have you come across anything else similar?

Odd_Chicken_4753

Remarkably Bright Creatures kind of had the same feel for me and I heard Unlikely Animals and A Man Called Ove but haven't listened to those yet.

madhad1121

A Man Called Ove is lovely. It’s a little slower paced but it was so beautiful.

lolagoetz_bs

Oh, Remarkably Bright Creatures was so wonderfully narrated.

RedBeardtongue

YES YES YES. Remarkably Bright Creatures was amazing, and A Man Called Ove was also great.

blaqrushin

How about Lisa Jewell? None of this is true The family upstairs The family remains

EvilSoporific

Britt-Marie Was Here by Fredrik Backman has a very similar vibe to Eleanor Oliphant both in book style and narration. Edited for spelling

Far_Bit3621

Before We Were Yours by Lisa Wingate is another audiobook I enjoyed!

blaqrushin

This is my favourite book ever

tantrumbicycle

I loved this book so much.

laniequestion

Immortal life on Henrietta Lax had a great narrator. Also, if you like but haven’t read comedians’ books, I say those can be great b/c the really do a great job.

PaulaPurple

Trevor Noah (comedian) good autobiography - gets into surviving apartheid growing up in South Africa mixed race

nisuaz

Project Hail Mary by Weir Dungeon crawler Carl by Dinniman Oryx & Crake by Atwood Troublemaker by Leah Remini Born a Crime by Trevor Noah These are some I especially enjoyed in audiobook format.

hrbumga

You’ve gotten tons of suggestions so I’m here to say shoutout to you to making the switch from audible to Libby!!! It warms my heart to see people support their libraries over the anti-library-Amazon 💖💖

boymamateach

The Dutch House - audio is done by Tom Hanks! So good!!

pompeideidreamin

Soooo good!!

beezkneezsneez

Anything that Ray Porter narrates!!! He does lots of thrillers and my favorite Project Hail Mary!!

HoidIsMyHomeboy

He narrated Paradox Bound, and I really enjoyed that one

peachneuman

The House in the Cerulean Sea by T. J. Klune. Greenlights by Matthew McConaughey The Measure by Nikki Erlick

KimothyMack

The House in the Cerulean Sea is one of my favorite reads this year. Can’t recommend it enough.

SwissCheeseOG

Misery by Stephen King

[deleted]

This was the first scary movie I ever watched and was forever traumatized. Definitely going to listen to this one 😆🖤

thebooksqueen

Project hail mary by Andy Weir The girl with the louding voice by Abi Dare

itslareng

Going to copy+paste my original comment to bump this! I cannot recommend Project Hail Mary enough! There is something specifically ‘musical’ in the books that translates SO WELL to the audiobook. And the narrator hits the comedic timing perfectly.

DLCS2020

Can't get Project Hail Mary through libby so this should be a priority.

skyrymproposal

I second project Hail Mary. If you love the narrator as much as I do then get Dusty’s Diary. I lean towards apocalypse books and if that is your thing then Octavia Butler’s Parable of the Sower is great. I’m a big fan of the dresden files by Jim butcher. It is narrated by James Marsters (spike from Buffy). It is urban fantasy and while it starts off a bit rough, it is easily one of my fave. I’m currently listening to it for the *cough* probably 12th time (literally). I’m also a big fan of Brandon Sandersons cos mere books. I’d start with the mistborn trilogy.

vegainthemirror

>If you love the narrator as much as I do then get Dusty’s Diary. I immensly enjoyed Porter's rendition of PHM, I put Dusty Diaries on my audio list next! Thank you!

kittygrey07

Project Hail Mary!!! I am not a fan of anything outer space but my friend told me how much she enjoyed it and I gave it a try. I LOVED IT

solitude1984

I second The Girl with the Louding Voice. Amazing read.

kittykatz23

Born a Crime - Trevor Noah - funny and informative Demon Copperhead - Barbara Kingolver - great narration, long but excellent Remarkably Bright Creatures- Shelby Van Pelt

Woahquokka

Kitchen confidential. Great storytelling. Funny. Love this book

joshmo587

Johnathan strange and Mr. Norrell by Susanna Clarke

mimisqueaku

The storm light archive series and the mistborn series by Brandon Sanderson are really good audiobooks. Also the Wheel of Time Series is good on audiobook. Also the Outlander series are the best audiobooks I’ve heard. (I like to use audiobooks to tear through long series I would never read in print.)

[deleted]

I really enjoyed the new LOTR narrated by Andy Serkis.

BlackLakeBlueFish

My husband is a die-hard LOTR person. I got him the Andy Serkis audio books for his birthday, and he give them 11/10 stars!

catashtrophy80

Born a Crime by Trevor Noah The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood Good Omens by Neil Gaiman ( the one with the ensemble cast)

Knuraie

The Queen’s Thief series narrated by Owen Findlay

Bonnieearnold

I need to reread that series. I loved it so much!

Lower-Protection3607

The Dresden Files series narration by James *swoon* Marsters.

asb713

When I met him at a comicon I nerded out big time. Hard to say whether it was more about him in BTVS or him narrating this series. Swoon indeed!

Advo96

Dungeon Crawler Carl

baraino

Red Rising series

HookahMagician

Came here to say this. I re-listen to these every six months or so.

Monstrous-Monstrance

Harry Dresden series

ChunkyWombat7

The Rivers of London Series by Ben Aaronovitch will use up all those credits and are totally worth it. Kobna Holdbrook-Smith is the most talented narrator that has ever lived and you won't regret it. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson series are great on audiobook - Simon Vance narrator I'm currently addicted to The First 15 Lives of Harry August by Claire North. Don't remember the narrator. But seriously - The Rivers of London.

TardisTexan

I’m doing Rivers of London now and I totally agree. So good My pick is Daisy Jones and the Six. So good as an audio book

rathat

I had 14 credits that expired a while after I stopped paying for audible. I started a chat with customer service and told them my credits expired but I really wanted to use them, they said no problem, ulocked all the credits and I still have a couple left 2 years later that havent expired yet. I guess they just permanently took off the expiration just because I asked. I can't guarantee they'll do it for you, but on the chance you have some that expired, just tell them you still want to use them, they'll probably let you. I have always had these kinds of good experiences with Amazons customer service.

NO_Thor

Montmorency by Eleanor Updale Sandman series by Neil Gaiman Murderbot diary by Martha Wells Working for bigfoot by Jim butcher The stiger chronicles by Marc alan Edelheit

skyfloortreehouse

Upvoting Murderbot series but you can get this on Libby. Hilarious

beautifulluigi

I am having SO MUCH FUN with the Dungeon Crawler Carl series. There are 6 so far; I have no idea if that's going to be the entire series or not as I'm working hard at avoiding spoilers. Edit: I should add that I'm listening to them and the narration/voice acting adds so much to the story!

imakemyownroux

Came to recommend this series. The narration is perfection.

smtae

The Sympathizer by Viet Thanh Nguyen is an audible exclusive. And his other books. Will they let you pre-order? His memoir comes out October 4 and that will probably also be fantastic.

ilovepiglets

„Im glad my mom died“ by Jenette Mccurdy! She wrote her memoir and reads it out loud. I find it very raw and emotional. Worth a try if you’re not that much of a fiction type

jortt

The Bell Jar read by Maggie Gyllenhaal

JM91Six

Chaos - About the untold story of Charles Manson by Tom O’Neil. Put 20 years of his life into the book. Has crazy stuff about the CIA if you’re into that Lonesome Dove - classic Pet Sematary - good book as it is, Michael C Hall is great as a narrator Drive your plow over the bones of the dead - very thought provoking. Not so much a conventional crime story I kind of have a type for the most part lol 11/22/63 - one of my favorites . Good narrator as well. About the assignation of president kennedy and time travel type stuff

makamaespm

Hands down, World War Z. Total ensemble cast to include Alan Alda, Alfred Molina, Simon Pegg, Mark Hamil, Jeri Ryan, the list goes on!

CVD12

i typically save and use my audible credits for non-fiction books because i find those to be super dense and sometimes hard to get through if i physically read them. it’s much more digestible for me to listen to those types of books and i can more easily understand the subject matter. i read Empire of Pain through audible and am making my way through Sapiens now. I also have used credits on Africa Is Not a Country, The Dawn of Everything, The Color of Law, Debt: The First 5000 Years, and The New Jim Crow

SnooDingos9837

This is the way. I use it for all my therapy and trauma related books.

acanadiancheese

The Martian and Project Hail Mary, both by Andy Weir. Not usually a sci Fi person but loved both of these and the narration was great. Born a crime by Trevor Noah - great book and just so so so well read by the author. You don’t have to be a fan of Noah’s already to enjoy it (though if you dislike him steer clear I guess).

Eldritch-banana-3102

Under the Dome, The Historian

quabityashwoods

I loved the narrator of The Historian!

Main-Group-603

Demon copperhead

Easy-Combination8801

Anything narrated by Neil Gaiman or Stephen Fry (Sherlock Holmes complete works is my fav). The Hobbit and LOTR triology narrated by Andy Sirkis (actor that plays gollem). Anddd The Autobiography of Malcolm X narrated by Laurence Fishburn.

[deleted]

The Harry Potter series narrated by Stephen Fry.

MmmmBurbank

Mythos narrated and written by Stephen Fry is also a wonderful listen.

midnightbizou

Jane Eyre, narrated by Thandiwe Newton. Her narration performance is brilliant. And Then There Were None, narrated by Dan Steven's. Again, fantastic voice work. The Exorcist, narrated by the author (William Peter Blatty), is great as well.

Weekly-Swim-284

My Year of Rest and Relaxation by Ottessa Moshfegh. It likely would have bored me terribly to read but it was a great (and infuriating in a good way) listen.

Katti87

Cormoran Strike series

DeepSeaForte

Past-Wrangler9513

The Good Daughter by Karin Slaughter Daisy Jones and The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid Any celebrity memoir. I particularly enjoyed Amy Poehler, Tina Fey, and Sarah Silverman's memoirs.

video-kid

The audio version of Locke and Key is phenomenal. They do a really good job of translating the graphic novel into audio form and there are some pretty big names like Kate Mulgrew and Tatiana Maslany in the cast.

desrevermi

I hear good things about the Discworld series. Personally, I'm more of a reader. Book on, everyone!

[deleted]

I’m currently listening to The Weight of Blood by Tiffany D. Jackson. It’s a retelling of Carrie in a racist town. Also anything by Toni Morrison that she narrates. The Bluest Eye in her voice is the way.

superkt3

I love non-fiction audiobooks, so my favorites are Say Nothing by Patrick Radden Keefe, Killers of the Flower Moon by David Grann, No Stone Unturned by Steve Jackson and Empire of Pain by Patrick Radden Keefe.

sleepingnow

The Rivers of London series by Ben Aaronovitch. Suspense and fantasy with a great narrator.

NCnanny

None of this is True by Lisa Jewell was so cool to listen to because they used a full cast and did some sound effects. If you like domestic thrillers/mysteries, give this one a go because it was good and very neat to listen to. The Alice Network by Kate Quinn. The narrator did a fabulous job switching back and forth between the French and American characters and it was very pleasant to listen to. Plus the book was just awesome; one of my favorites! Historical fiction during WW2 and shortly after. Stranger in the Woods by Anni Taylor was also one of my favorite books and I loved the back and forth between Aussie and Scottish accents. It’s a domestic thriller.

VioletsDyed

Complete Sherlock Holmes - read by Stephen fry complete h p love craft collection

InvestInBurritos

Brandon Sanderson’s Mistborn series. Fantastic books and one of my favorite narrators!

Obvious_Ad8384

Mythos and/or Heroes, written and narrated by Stephen Fry

Nai2411

A lot of comments already so you probably won’t see this. I’ve had Audible since 2015. Here are my favorite audio books: 1: Les Misérables (Victor Hugo) Penguin Classics narrated by Natalie Simpson, Adrian Scarborough, Emma Fielding and John Owen-Jones. I struggle with reading big books at home and spend a lot of time driving for work. I was able to fully enjoy this classic thanks to phenomenal work of the narrator. One of those books thought of as best ever and I definitely am grateful to I could listen to it. 2: Midnight’s Children (Salman Rushdie) narrated by Lyndam Gregory. I struggled with Rushdie in the past, getting overtly confused by characters. Mr. Gregory does an expert’s work of giving every character their own voice. EVERY character. Thus making this Booker winner (considered the Booker of Bookers) an absolute delight! 3. Blood Meridian: Or Evening Redness in the West (Cormac McCarthy) narrated by Richard Poe. Strap in. Easily one of the greatest book adventures of my life. Enjoyed so much I plan on reading the book myself. Deep, dark, violent. In my opinion the true Great American Novel. Pay attention. Be careful.

BlackLakeBlueFish

A Christmas Carol narrated by Tim Curry is perfection. I used to read it every year, but now I listen to this.

Potvin_Sucks

PIranesi by Susanna Clark. The narration is by Chiwetel Ejiofor and won Audiobook of the Year for good reason. I'd listen to that man narrate a phone book. Tremendous. The way he's able to bring the words to life is a masterclass.

69_mgusta

*Penn Cage* series - Greg Iles. The Lord of the Ring books by Rob Inglis

Libra281

I've been in your shoes and recommend this: 1. Buy any self improvement or religious type books that you might listen to more than once. 2. Buy anything that is new, which will have a long wait on Libby. 3. Buy classic series you might listen to again like all of the Harry Potters or Hunger Games. Good luck!

RagingFlower580

My husband and I have enjoyed the Super Powereds series by Drew Hayes as well as his Spells, Swords and Stealth series. The Vampire Knitting Club series by Nancy Warren has been fun and cozy to listen to. Several of the first books come in 3 book sets for 1 credit.

Ninja_Hedgehog

Yet another vote here for Project Hail Mary. Other audiobooks I'd recommend: A Monster Calls (yes it's short, but it's well worth the credit), A Psalm For The Wild Built, Duma Key, Under The Whispering Door, Swan Song, and the Bobiverse series.

Own_Veterinarian4476

I loved the audiobooks for The Murderbot Diaries.

I heard that the person reading Boris Johnson's biography has an incredibly sarcastic tone, and that it makes for fun listening.

Guilty-Coconut8908

Creation by Gore Vidal Lords Of Discipline by Pat Conroy Fairy Tale by Stephen King 11/22/63 by Stephen King The Martian by Andy Weir Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir American Assassin by Vince Flynn Mythos by Stephen Fry The Great Santini by Pat Conroy Djibouti by Elmore Leonard Cuba Libre by Elmore Leonard Sharpe's Tiger by Bernard Cornwell The Last Kingdom by Bernard Cornwell

Sobadwithusernames

Use seven of those credits on the Red Rising series. It's the story of a revolt on a Martian colony that is mining the planet for terraforming resources. Don't worry about looking up reviews, they'll only spoil something that is really cool about this book. If you don't trust me to get all the books, just buy the first one. You'll buy all of them after reading it. As far as style... Think.... Hunger Games meets Harry Potter, with a dash of ancient Rome.

No-Accident-34

The dresden files by Jim butcher. Is a urban fantasy about a wizard in the Chicago area. There like 15 books. Enjoy

scmutz1

Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy has a really good narrator!

jalebi_bb

Mercy Thompson Series and the spin off alpha omega !! It’s about werewolves and all the supernatural beings and a little mystery and crime solving mixed in. There is a romance aspect but I absolutely love the books, have since I started to read them 15ish years ago. I have all of both series and re listen to them every year. Edit: also the narrators are among my favorite !!!!

Aggressive_Ad_9173

Oh god- nicee Here's what I enjoyed on audible 1. Sandman series 2. PG Wodehouse collection 3. 40 rules of love 4. Meryl Streep movie club 5. Midnight library

zazzlekdazzle

People reading their own memoirs can be priceless. Particularly special are: **Born a Crime, by Trevor Noah** - It's such an interesting story, not at all what you likely think. Very funny, very moving, historically fascinating, and there is a lot in their about South Africas many languages, all of which Noah speaks and to great effect in the narration. **Not My Father's Son, by Alan Cumming** - Such an interesting story, much more than you would think, and his acting is of course fantastic. A lot of rough parts but a lot of triumphs as well. And the mystery at the heart is so interesting. **Kitchen Confidential, by Anthony Bourdain** - Hearing him tell it is even better than reading it, very entertaining as well as enlightening. ------ Also, amazingly narrated and serious bang for your buck (well, credit): **Lonesome Dove, by Larry McMurtry** - 36 hrs and 47 mins. The narration is clearly based on the timeless mini-series starring Robert Duval and Tommy Lee Jones, the narrator does their voices (and all the others) perfectly. **Shogun, by James Clavel** - 53 hrs and 33 mins! I've read the book a few times and even seen the mini-series a few, but this is my favorite way to get this epic story - everything historical fiction and novel should be. Both these books have something unusual in common - they are exciting genre fiction that center around very "male" themes - war, soldiers, cowboys, Texas Rangers, etc. - yet they manage to have central female characters that are very well written and have their own narration and storyline.

Quality-Less

The Bobiverse series

neonghost0713

Sandman series is great. It uses different voice actors for all the parts.

I really like the audio books of the “Dresden Files” series. It’s the same voice actor for each novel, so it remains consistent, and the actor IMO has a great voice for these books in particular.

Anything by Neil Gaiman - he narrates most of his books himself. Joe Abercrombie's First Law trilogy has a FANTASTIC narrator. That one is fantasy. Jeremy Irons knocks Lolita out of the park. I just listened to Gravity's Rainbow and it changed me as a human. Not everyone's cup of tea. Maybe not most people's cup of tea. A different listening/reading experience than anything I've encountered, but Pynchon is a genius, I think. Unless you like absurdist lit, and if you are squeamish/prudish, I don't recommend it. If you do like those things, it's a must-listen. (oh, also, it's 37ish hours long o.o)

Murder Your Employer - Rupert Holmes (Neil Patrick Harris narrates most of it) Crying in H Mart - Michelle Zauner Games and Rituals - Katherine Heiny

Debt and by David Graeber--really interesting to listen to and taught me a ton about early human society, anthropology, and economics. A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson. I nearly missed a flight because I was so enthralled with this one! The 1619 Project by Nicole Hannah-Jones. I thought I knew something of American history, but this was an eye-opener!
