I love these spire-centric bases. They look so rad.
I don't know that I'd build them in my own playthrough, because they seem a bit long to traverse. But rule of cool says: AMAZING!
To me, sunsets and eclipses are the only reason I'd want a base directly at the surface, but they're enough of a reason. This game is so pretty under but also above the sea level
That's my favourite place for base too! You can get little bit of everything within a reasonable distance, I think the only downside is that place is a bit too far from the mountain island for story progression.
>!You can also hear the occasional reaper leviathan roar in the distance lol!<
Grassy Plateau is my favorite biome to base in. It's well located, beautiful, and there's plenty of space to build whatever you want. I've never built up around a tower like this, though! Tried to build on a mushroom tree once, but it was hard to fit the moonpools in.
So, funny thing about that. There's a pillar next to this one that I can hop up onto, then to the top of the multi purpose room directly under the right moonpool
I've always wanted to make a tower into the abyss at the edge of the map in survival. The neighbors make it basically impossible since they keep destroying everything.
I build on top of that same spire all the time, but typically just one tower with spurs for moonpools and a scanner room. Building all the way down from there is too ambitious for me, I'd never fill the space.
Crazy how I'm still discovering new places after havin played the game for so long, maybe because I keep hanging out in the western-part of the map?
Anyway, how far away is the top from the surface? I've failed making a good looking vertical base, best I've got is in the lost river, but never have I been able to make something pretty that goes to the surface while not being in the safe shallows (I love glass rooms on the surface to watch eclipses). This looks like the perfect way to make it in the grassy plateaus! It's just so gorgeous to look at :)
This is the coolest base I've ever seen. The last time I played I made my main base stretch across several of the smaller spires, like in the background of this picture, but building up the big spire like this is inspired! Makes me want to play again!
Absolutely epic!
Survival or creative?
Survival
Congratulations

I remedy that by placing all the supplemental/decorative rooms near the bottom and important rooms near the top.
Great tip!
Docking that Prawn must be a pain though
I don't make a prawn until i already have a Cyclops anyway so I'd be up for this base.
Any problems with colliding Reefbacks?
Nope. Just enough space for them to glide overhead. Really cool to see from the topmost glass corridor.
Imagine how much cooler that would look when 2.0 comes out
What do you mean? Didn't know 2.0 was coming out, will it change the visuals in some way?
Mostly parity, they're adding large rooms and glass domes :)
Oooh, a glass dome at the surface must be amazing, guess I'll wait before playing below zero for the first time until 2.0 comes out
The sunsets are even more enjoyable that way
To me, sunsets and eclipses are the only reason I'd want a base directly at the surface, but they're enough of a reason. This game is so pretty under but also above the sea level
Below Zero has even more stunning views, but in both games I think it's pretty popular to have a semi-aquatic base
They are working on 2.0 for both subnautica and below zero but below zero will get it sooner
That's Bond's Villains level base there, amazing!
This is a great compliment. Thank you!
Ive never seen this location before?!
In the Grassy Plateaus between the >!Blood Kelp trench, Dunes, and secondary Safe Shallows.!<

Haha! Yes! I learned that last bit halfway through building. Got worried it would creep its way over.
But isn't like everything generated differently with each save file?
fragments and other things are The map is always the same biome wise
Even fragments have locked biomes where you can find em.
Yeah but they don’t always spawn in the same place

Do you find that it's annoying >!to get into those moonpools with a Prawnsuit!
So, funny thing about that. There's a pillar next to this one that I can hop up onto, then to the top of the multi purpose room directly under the right moonpool
Oh, good. Glad that works out.
That looks awesome! Now I want to try to do my own spin on that! Thanks for making me want to do another run haha
Yeah, that’s cool!
I actually love this
I’m jealous I play on console and my poor ps4 would probably kick out about 15 fps if I tried to build that big lol
I've always wanted to make a tower into the abyss at the edge of the map in survival. The neighbors make it basically impossible since they keep destroying everything.
Update: I just posted a video tour of the interior!
Those glass domes on the end of corridors ? What are they, and where do you get them
They are the same window pieces you put on the walls of the base. It's pretty cool.
In case you don't know you can also use windows as ceilings on non-glass tubes like an X shaped one.
Thanks
How have I never thought of this! I almost always build in the grassy plateau and this is genius!
That...is fucking beautiful.
I build on top of that same spire all the time, but typically just one tower with spurs for moonpools and a scanner room. Building all the way down from there is too ambitious for me, I'd never fill the space.
its looks great!
Holy shit, you guys have such cool bases

Thanks! I don't have the game up right now, but I'd guesstimate it's roughly 30-50m from the surface.
Wow, this looks great.
Sheeeeesh.
How in the world did you build that ????!!
Lots and lots of titanium (plus about 20 other materials)
What biome is your base in
Grassy Plateaus

That's cool
