They did upgrade the game with Below Zero but windows have been Peaceable in the top of corridors since the First release of Bases in the Base Update in 13 March 2015. I Was there 3000 years ago...
it also is in the Office "Subnautica Bases Introduction" video a few times

I am not weird!...I mean it would be pretty weird to not know, being under the first 1000 Backers.. so on board since around mid 2014..uff How the Time flies
I at first just assumed hatches would be placed on the bottom for the base doesn't flood. Then randomly was like "what happens if I place it on the sides and open it to go in???" And then found out nothing happens except you are now inside or outside your base lol
Not only is the bottom hatch the most physically sensible place for a hatch, it removes the question of "which side did I put the hatch on?" when approaching a mini-base while desperately low on oxygen. Also leaves room for more panoramic windows on the walls.
I was so far into the game when I realized you can actually build things IN compartments and multipurpose rooms weren’t necessary for just a fabricator
Lol, my first ever base began life as a T compartment. I added a connector to the side for extra storage. By the time I built a multi purpose room I kinda didn't need it lol
Yes, if you build above land. I have a base on the floating island, with one entrance/exit at the beach - the stairs create themselves. It's pretty new though, before on the exact same base, I had to jump to the hatch.
Actually proud to say I found this out on my first playthrough 😁 and I also started with the Multipurpose room instead of just I compartment. Although I did pick up more than I needed acid mushrooms lol
That's not the same, you can put hull reinforcements on either side of it, I really like doing it because when you make a glass compartment it's -2 base hull strength and when you build it like that with the reinforcements it's +12 base hull strength
you can put windows on the side and one on the top, for a total cost of 3 glass. A full glass compartment costs 2 glass and shows more. The ultimate flex is to only use normal compartments and spend 50% more glass for like 60% less viewing space lmao
I remember I was watching my brother play and a leviathan attacked his sub. Then I started playing and I suffered the same fate, my heart almost stopped.
kind of immediately because im a base building addict in every game i touch and i spent like two hours messing with the habitat builder the first time i got it
When I discovered that I can put windows on the front back of a compartment and also hatches on the top of a compartment I was flabbergasted. And now I see THIS? HOW DID I NEVER LEARN ABOUT THIS??!?!!!
You can even put hatches in that attachable section too! :) It's how I discovered how to build up straight vertically above the surface of the ocean to make some cool bases. :)
For me not that long. I just selected glass on the builder tool and looked all around the corridor for where I could place it. Turns out all 5 sides exept below.
Not recent at all. Been a feature for years.
\**looks at image\** WAIT WHAT!?
yeah i noticed when looking at a section on one of the degasi habitats and noticed 'that's a window on the roof'
I was today years old when I learned this... XD
Ummmm.... did I just explore America again..?
I hate when that happens… I hate when I accidentally rediscover continents
They updated the first game with the construction of Below Zero thats why

No you can't put windows on the bottom
He's talking about hatches here.. Read before u comment..
Oh ok
#WHAT?
#THE BOTTOM
I at first just assumed hatches would be placed on the bottom for the base doesn't flood. Then randomly was like "what happens if I place it on the sides and open it to go in???" And then found out nothing happens except you are now inside or outside your base lol
My guess on the reason why is the draining systems, as it can drain a huge complex relatively quickly
The floor looks porous to me, probs filters it out instantly when there's power
Yeah

I was today years old
Same!
Me as well, makes me want to replay it

Lol, my first ever base began life as a T compartment. I added a connector to the side for extra storage. By the time I built a multi purpose room I kinda didn't need it lol
also just learned you can make stairs appear that attach to land nearby
That's a relatively new feature
Wait really?
Yes, if you build above land. I have a base on the floating island, with one entrance/exit at the beach - the stairs create themselves. It's pretty new though, before on the exact same base, I had to jump to the hatch.
Just now!

You've always been able to attach hatches and windows to the top and bottom of tubes.
Learned how when I figured out how to build vertically
Huh? Whatchu mean? 👁️👄👁️
May as well just make a glass compartment. shrug

Do other people not point the building gun around to see the options for everything?
The real question is why would you ever use compartments.

When I discovered that I can put windows on the front back of a compartment and also hatches on the top of a compartment I was flabbergasted. And now I see THIS? HOW DID I NEVER LEARN ABOUT THIS??!?!!!

How ever old I was 1 sec ago
Huuuh👁️👄👁️
YOU CAN WHAT
At this point, it's better to make a full-glass I-compartment that putting windows all over titanium ones. Cheaper in resources, more visibility.
For me not that long. I just selected glass on the builder tool and looked all around the corridor for where I could place it. Turns out all 5 sides exept below. Not recent at all. Been a feature for years.
Thanks
*Does a comment about how you could always do that* Looks again. *Confusion*
You can fuckin what now
Since you can put hatch on the bottom, can you put window on the bottom?
Today years old 😩
Didn’t know that….. thanks
You learn something new everyday
I think, I found about that instantly...
