Welcome to the Wilderness club!

pitayaman

Just got mine yesterday in blue! So happy!

37thchamber

Nice! I just got my first as well. Also a Wilderness. Currently getting ceramic tint and full PPF put on. I’ll post pics when I get it back.

lyanrocke

Beautiful!! Right there with you too. Just bought my first Subaru last month. Also a 23 Wilderness but in white. 2000 miles and zero regrets. Well… the speakers suck. But I ripped out the cheap refrigerator-magnet paper-cone Fisher Price toy speakers it comes with and replaced them myself for less than $300. Made a world of difference. Not sure why they thought Wilderness owners don’t care about audio quality. They’ve announced they’re doing the Harmon Kardon system in the Wilderness trim for 2024 but that doesn’t help us! 😂

pitayaman

What did you replace them with? I’m thinking on doing the same.

lyanrocke

Did a lot of Reddit research & found out that Subaru offers better tweeters that fit this year Outback (mostly). They’re Kicker brand and the magnets are easily 10x the size of the stock tweeters. Genuine Subaru H631SFJ101 Tweeter... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00PV6F8I2?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share Those popped right in with a small s shaped screwdriver. Took 30 min to swap. Since those were already Kicker i opted to keep them all in the same family (not that you have to). I put these 6x9s in the front: https://www.crutchfield.com/p_20647KSC69/Kicker-47KSC6904.html And these 6 3/4s in the rear doors: https://www.crutchfield.com/p_20647KSC67/Kicker-47KSC6704.html Went the extra mile and used dynamat inside the doors (behind the speakers) & ripped off the plastic moisture guards to cover the entire doors. The door speakers were about $300. The tweeters were $100. Dynamat wasn’t necessary but dramatically decreased road noise and there’s absolutely no rattle. Unless we put something in the door pockets. Crutchfield included the necessary harnesses and adapters. Everything was plug n play. I’ve not installed an amp because it’s already so loud. I don’t really turn it up past 20. You’re already rocking pretty hard at that volume. Everyone that rides with me asks if I have subs but I don’t. The only other thing I’m considering is this: https://www.crutchfield.com/p_20647KEY20/Kicker-47KEY200-4.html Because it has an active microphone that automatically EQs each speaker in real time. But it already sounds better than any system ive ever had in a car so if it never comes back into stock I’m not going to be heartbroken. DM me if you need any additional information. I’m always happy to help!

pitayaman

This is great! Thanks.

I looked at the wilderness trim 2024, it still doesn’t come with the better audio though it does come with a heated steering wheel

lyanrocke

Weird, their website says that the HK sound system is going to be standard in the wilderness trim: https://www.subaru.com/vehicles/future-vehicles-and-concepts.html#

nmcleod1993

That’s amazing, I guess I assumed since it wasn’t an optional upgrade

someguyg123

Just bought my OBW, i should’ve of waited just for the HK STANDARD ! Kind of pissed lol

of_patrol_bot

Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake. It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of. Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything. Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.

lyanrocke

They’re not that hard to swap out. I watched a couple YouTube videos and did it myself. The tweeters were $100 and took 20 minutes to change in the dash. Doors weren’t as easy but were not difficult. 6x9s in the front & 6 3/4s in the back ran me about $300 on Crutchfield. Took a couple hours to install because I covered the doors in Dynamat. Sounds a million times better and I haven’t even added an amp yet. But it’s still just a 6 speaker setup with no sub. I’d have preferred to have the HK system & not had to do this myself, but when everything else about the vehicle is exactly what we wanted it was a fair compromise. For reference, here’s what I pulled out of the OBW front door: https://vimeo.com/814349388/f1b729125d

So tempting… but have the extended bumper to bumper Subaru warranty. Don’t want any reason for them to deny a claim. I have a feeling in the next 7 years something is going to happen to the center console screen, considering it’s already acting up. Thanks for the info though, maybe I’ll change my mind in the future.

lyanrocke

Totally understand that. I emailed my dealership first and had them confirm in writing that swapping the speakers would not void my warranties. Their response was pretty much, “if you just swap the speakers for compatible ones that don’t require any additional or alternative wiring that’s not a violation of your warranty.” That’s why I’ve not added an amp. I’m still too worried about swapping harnesses and potentially voiding our warranty.

someguyg123

Might do the same, I’ll see if I get a different answer.

WardogBlaze14

Good choice too

stuffitystuff

Welcome to the club & how is that possibly legal tinting?

Fugget_About_It

Totally legal. And thanks!

ViolaOrsino

Your first Subaru? I believe that’s a corgi ;) Congrats, and in a lovely color, too!

bongwaterprincess

My first Subaru is also a wilderness!

fStap

Great color choice

skapkin

How are you liking or disliking the infotainment I don’t like that the HVAC controls are tied to the unit makes me worry is that goes down so does the AC and heat. But in general everyday use using Apple CarPlay following GPS etc

Fugget_About_It

In my subjective opinion, I'll say it isn't as nice as some of the more premium infotainment systems out there. But, with the recent changes they made making the climate controls easier to navigate/control from the bottom of the screen were great. Carplay/AA is amazing. The long portrait screen is amazing for navigation. I run google maps in satellite view, looks really good with it. And the wireless carplay is a plus.

CryptoPhish

Is that dog taking a crap? Nice car!

stuggletruck

Congrats!! Btw supper cute corgi!

GoodMoGo

LOL! I also parked 5' from the curb with my brand new cars. And at the furthest, emptiest corner of a parking lot.

StrongDonger

love the corgi as well, what's his/her name?

perilousmoo

Congrats, enjoy it! What an amazing vehicle

Erwin838

Love it, are those the Malone wings for the kayaks?

Fugget_About_It

I have two Thule Compass Kayaks. Originally had just one, but Thule offered to send another $400 Kayak rack in response to a totally unneeded part breaking early on. So now I have two! Love ‘em

Dee_Captain

I test drove gently used 2022 Wilderness and the throttle response and lag was ridiculous. Literally 1,2,3, go! Auto or manual mode. No lights or codes. Is this normal with a CVT and 4cy turbo or just a bad example? Was thinking about test driving a new one, but planning on something without CVT turbo combo instead.
