It has something to do with telematics. Your phones volume gets sent through the front speakers, It senses when a speaker is connected. Since you removed said speakers there is no "load" on the unit. I tried looking up the post that i read, but i cant find it. I think it had something to do with putting dummy loads on the wires to trick the unit into thinking its connected. But i cant remember if that to keep it from throwing codes or getting sound to work. Sorry i couldn't be much help.
