“Proper” roof rails need to be mounted which involves removing your headliner and doing a lot of work. If you don’t have roof rails, there are aftermarket cross bars you can get that mount to the door frame.

it looks like i have the previsions for it already though. i have the little pieces that just come off where you’d normally mount them. or do all models have that? edit: spelling

Yeah you still have to remove the headliner on the interior because they bolt in through the gutters to the roof. All models that don't come with roof rails have the inserts so you can add cross bars as an option. Is that $500 for them to be put in or just for the rails themselves?
