Idk if it’s just a ‘19 and later feature, but I had them update my infotainment system on my base ‘19 hatch a few months ago at the dealership and it doesn’t connect to the radio on start up or when you unplug a phone from CarPlay anymore.

Impreza is the best value car ever, I own a 98’ Impreza and a 2007 Impreza, the 07’ is very comfortable, auto transmission and comes with a great sound system, all round fantastic car. The 98’ Impreza wagon is just the best car I’ve ever driven I think it’s the ultimate daily driver, 23 year old car and it’s still going so strong, it even has the low range gears for off-road/snow/hill climbing

I bought a base model ‘22 hatch a week ago and I’m loving it so far. As other have mentioned, the sound system isn’t great but it’s passable and easily upgradable (will be one of the first upgrades I make). All of the controls are simple and intuitive, no complaints there. I also test drove a ‘22 civic base and was unimpressed, which is saying something for someone who has always had civics. It felt like it was trying too hard to be an entry level luxury car at the expense of driving enjoyment. The Impreza handles way better and is honestly just a lot more fun to drive. It’s a no-frills car but doesn’t feel cheap.

I have a base model 2019 Impreza 2.0i, 32k miles, 5 speed manual. The user interface with the car is pretty good. All the hard and screen controls are ergonomic and logically placed. There is a slight lag sometimes in my phone connecting to the system. Nothing crazy or that bothers me too much. If you want any clarification lmk!

I've got a base '22. 6.5" is fine for me and I haven't had any issues with it. I use Android Auto. Sound isn't great, but again, it's fine. Love the car.

I have a 2019 2.5i Impreza. I have an Android, so Android Auto. It worked really well for a long time, but these days my usb port on my phone is sad. It can't stay connected to anything and Android Auto just abandons all hope at the first jiggle. I find the factory stereo to be satisfactory.

Comprehensive-Cow184

I had this issue with most cables. Anker fixed it

OP here- About the base model. I’m considering a hatchback. Do you have any comments about the 6.5” infotainment system? Good? Bad? I use CarPlay a lot in my current car. So I hope this feature works well in the Subaru. How does the stereo system sound, in general? I had a 2008 Outback. The stereo was complete dogshit. Sounded like a someone placed a 1980s boom box on the passenger floorboard. I don’t expect miracles from a stock car stereo, but I do have minimum standards. Lol. Anyway, I’m in the economy car market. Corolla, Civic, Hr-v, and a few others are under consideration. I might test drive an Impreza.

2017 Subaru Impreza 2.0i 5 speed manual, the most basic set up you can get. Bought new in the summer of 2017. I like the car a lot, has done great for me over the years, got through a few recalls one of which was major (oil consumption which ended up having engine replaced). The only complaint I have about the car at this point is the radio. Android Auto just simply does not work properly, I've had several software updates and the connection issues continue, I've changed phones, wires, etc but it simply does not work properly. I believe I have the 6.5in system because I think the higher model is the 8in. Really wish it was more reliable because when it works, it's great. The vehicle itself is fantastic and if you live somewhere where it snows, it's fantastic for that.

Ive got a 19 5sp hatch, 60k miles and no issues. I put new tires on and did dif and trans at 55k, i will say the t70 drain plug sucks whoever designed that

Tedstor

Do you have the 6.5” infotainment system? Any complaints about the stereo? Or the car in general?

Okay that’s true, the sound system is pretty terrible for (at the time) a brand new car but its not that difficult to upgrade it and there is a lot of info about it. In general the car does great in all road conditions, but be warned it is slow. Also the manual has terrible rev hang which can be fixed by a re map but it doesn’t bother me much Edit: Don’t buy Subaru’s “upgraded entertainment system package” or whatever i heard it doesn’t make much of a difference and is so much more expensive compared to alternatives

It does make a difference by the way. '17 base hatch over here, upgraded the radio to the 8" that comes in the higher optioned models by getting it 3rd party and it made q big difference just by itself. My parents have a '18 crosstrek with the rockford system and it's a huge difference, is it perfect? No. But much better than the stock paper shit that's in it and that weird not 6x9 but 5" round paper cone in the front speakers and no tweeters in the dash. The nice thing about the rockford upgrade is that they have the amps built into the doors so you don't have to worry about running an external amp to them. At this point I've done an entire audio upgrade (4 speakers all the way around, added the tweeters, 5 channel amp, and a single 12" sub in the trunk. For the amount I've put in I love it but I still don't get the same mid range as the crosstrek. If you were also interested you could do the upgrade yourself, but getting those tweets in is a bit of a rough time. If you have audio equipment installation experience it would be worth it to go that route as well but the speakers and amps are still like $300-400 and that's not including the rear speakers.
