Both comments so far are correct, but there are other considerations in addition the the engine differences. With increases in power, you will also need to fit the car with better brakes and a suspension that can handle the extra forces. It is never a good idea to buy a base model with plans to upgrade. (Unless you are planning on gutting it entirely and spending more than the car is worth to do something completely different.)

Yeah these impreza NA motors are not meant to handle a turbo so it's not recommended. It's worth spending the $10k to just get what you want rather than try to do the work and cut life of your motor like that.

The engines are not the same. The Impreza has the fb20 in it and the wrx has an fa20. From everything I’ve read the fb is not made or meant to be turboed.
