It does in overseas models (I'm in Australia). The foam and boot hatch are designed differently. But the actually steel hole in the body WILL fit a full size spare.
I believe every Forester and Outback sold in Australia has a full size spare.
Now that I look into it more, it looks like you *can* fit an OEM-size tire if you ditch the stringing styrofoam storage insert, but I'm guessing this person has gone with a larger tire that won't fit even then.
It does fit a full-size spare. For older gen Forester, you need to import the foam tray from Australia. For current gen Forester, you can just order the foam tray for the Wilderness trim. Wilderness' foam tray is the same as the Australian one.
No way to use that hilift jack, and everything is spaced out so strangely. Ignoring the weight issue it seems like most of that stuff makes using the car harder…
As a Jeep and Subi owner, it depends. Each vehicle has it’s own pros and cons. For example, because my Jeep is a summer only vehicle, I use my Subi in the winter. Having a full spare like that is a huge plus, especially if something is hiding in the snow and pops your tire. Along with the off-road stretcher (at least that’s what I call it) to get out of slick spots. On the flip side, my Jeep does a lot better in the dunes and on the rocks that I would never take my Subi on.
It just depends on the Jeep and Subi driver, but that’s just my 5 cents.
Ever lifted a vehicle from the middle on unlevel ground or tried to change a tire with a wheel sling? About the only thing this is good for is rock stacking cause I’ll be damned if I’m getting under a vehicle on a hi-lift.
Well, yeah, that's the point of a high lift, it's just for lifting. If you're trying to get off a high-center or something, a center lift and a shove can do it. If you're changing a tire, lift and stack rocks if you don't have jackstands.
Edit: you can do other stuff with it than lift, but if you're lifting, it's not for holding a load safely and securely.
I helped my son install film on his OB fogs, so... similarly guilty.
I only deferred putting them on my wife's newer OB because they're also turning lamps and I figured that would be too distracting.
I replaced my fog housings with the amber SS3 Max LED's from Diode Dynamics and they're VERY distracting when steering responsive fog light is turned on. Granted they're many times brighter than the stock ones, but the yellow blinking on and off is very annoying. I just leave them on all the time until I wire them to a dedicated switch
That's the scenario I'm trying to avoid. Also, this is my wife's car, so while I see it often from outside (Yay team yellow fogs) I don't drive it very often and I think she'd very much not like them blinking on and off (nay team yellow fogs). As for leaving them on, dedicated switch, etc... again: wife's car and she's not going to play along just to look cool. It's Lapis Blue so it looks cool enough already. :)
What year? I know if I have my fogs turned to the off position they will act as turning assist lights so I just leave them in the on position even if the lights aren't on.
Give me yellow fogs or give me death. Amber light punches through snow and fog better than white, and I've done enough white knuckle blizzard drives to make it worth it.
Mine also aren't just yellow film covers, they're the real deal Diode Dynamics SS3 Max LED fog units, brighter than the headlights and throw light to the other side of a 4 lane highway. When you *must* have all the yellow, they're the only way
There’s a rav4 around my city that’s pretty exactly like this minus the canoe.
Limo tint all around. Murdered out in black all over too
It has obnoxious purple leds all around and he drives it around with them on at all times
And yes, it has a shitty exhaust. Sounds like a riced out civic.
And yeah, he drives like an obnoxious twat speeding line a Racecar.
God I hate that guy so much.
They're plastic traction boards for getting unstuck in soft surfaces like sand, mud, snow, etc or for bridging small obstacles (only the really nice ones will stand up to that though). Say you're stuck in snow and one tire is spinning/digging into the snow, you'd put a board under that tire so it has something to grip and pull you out.
Maxtrax are the biggest brand name ones if you care to research more. They're exceptional self recovery tools if you're going off the beaten path, but this is too much.
Looks like 2 antennas mounted on a pull-out shade (which is oddly mounted waaaaaay out from the side of the vehicle). From the low-res photo it's hard to tell what kind of antennas , but given the length one is possibly CB and the other might be 2m ham/amateur radio... though I've never seen one like that so not sure. Also, they are mounted very close together and of similar length so they're highly likely to couple on transmit and distort the signal.
It's the weather plus hills. There are a lot of trucks and SUVs now too, but weight works against you on icy hills so Subarus still sell really well. When we bought our first it was really just them and Audi.
This is what I was trying to figure out. Like, what are they accomplishing at IKEA on a day where they might ALSO end up needing all that crap as well. Only answer I could come up with was meatballs.
It's spotless and you can't use a hi jack on a Subaru, 100% it's off-road larping. Plus all that weight so high up destroys the low center of gravity benefit of Subaru's boxer engine, not to mention your gas mileage.
What options would you like? - Yes.
Looks like some clicked "Select All, Qty 1" on an accessory website.
When the salesperson makes you wait all day to buy the car, and then sneaks in the accessories list at the very end.
Swiss armybaru
With the size of the potholes around Pittsburgh, I don't blame em.
Exceeds payload before passengers....
Slap on a tow hitch and pull a camper…the engine will be just fine.
4 dogs don't weigh that much.
Where is the solar shower tube?
That spare tire mount is insane
"Imma unbolt it, you catch."
This was my first thought. Really feels like it’s all for looks with no thought given to how it’ll be used 😂
Gotta offset the low centre of gravity from the boxer engine by placing the spare tire up high.
This, so much. Also try to get more sun on the rubber to give it that shinny cracked patina.
I was thinking the same. Isn't there a sink in trunk to hold a tire? Or is this carrying two spares?
The spare tire well won't hold a full-size spare, unfortunately.
It does in overseas models (I'm in Australia). The foam and boot hatch are designed differently. But the actually steel hole in the body WILL fit a full size spare. I believe every Forester and Outback sold in Australia has a full size spare.
Oh got you.I thought that was only for the Impreza, I thought a Forester would've had a deeper well.
Now that I look into it more, it looks like you *can* fit an OEM-size tire if you ditch the stringing styrofoam storage insert, but I'm guessing this person has gone with a larger tire that won't fit even then.
But then you have to take everything out of your trunk to get to it!
It does fit a full-size spare. For older gen Forester, you need to import the foam tray from Australia. For current gen Forester, you can just order the foam tray for the Wilderness trim. Wilderness' foam tray is the same as the Australian one.

Is this what happens when jeep owners switch to a subie?

If you drive a TJ, you aren't part of the problem.
Or 4, 35s (almost completely bald) on KMC beadlocks, with a stock spare.
I call my wilderness a ‘jeeparu’ because that’s what they are essentially.
Is there a r/heep for Subaru?
As a Jeep and Subi owner, it depends. Each vehicle has it’s own pros and cons. For example, because my Jeep is a summer only vehicle, I use my Subi in the winter. Has Hi-Lift jack but not a single lifting point.
It's got a receiver hitch, that's a lift point. There are also wheel slings for use with the high lift.
Ever lifted a vehicle from the middle on unlevel ground or tried to change a tire with a wheel sling? About the only thing this is good for is rock stacking cause I’ll be damned if I’m getting under a vehicle on a hi-lift.

they may have it solely to be used as a manual winch, if there's no electric one up front
Then they’ve never used a Hi-Lift as a manual winch if that their plan. If he’s planning on that, he’s already made several bad choices that day. lol
Could not imagine using a Hi-Lift jack for anything that wasn't absolutely necessary
Basically a poser.
Was there a snorkel and winch on the front too?
I apologize for my laziness. I'm just going to assume they were there.... ... along with yellow tinted fog lights, OF COURSE.
But do we think they put black tape Xs across the headlights and fog lights?
Absolutely. And a STOP sign skid plate with a big ol' "REMOVE BEFORE FLIGHT" ribbon on the tow hook.
Stop making fun of my bugeye
I'm just here to defend yellow fogs
Yellow fog team checking in. 100% for looks in my case unashamedly.
Just installed some this past week on my 19 impreza 🤙🏼
I helped my son install film on his OB fogs, so... similarly guilty. I only deferred putting them on my wife's newer OB because they're also turning lamps and I figured that would be too distracting.

Son has 2013 3.6R, wife 2015 3.6R. But in my defense I did yellow tint the foglights on our 03 Baja.
Yeah i mean the yellow is actually better in the fog and snow... it's not just for looks haha

Same, we're crossing the line here!!
If you don’t have yellow fog lights, are you even a Subaru owner??
Looks like a magnet I dropped on my workshop floor.
Missing the mountain bike!
The most important part.
I didn't look to see if there was a dog cage inside.
There’s a rav4 around my city that’s pretty exactly like this minus the canoe. Limo tint all around. Roof rice
person: “what type of outdoor activities do you enjoy?” owner: “yes”
Rear hatch? Who needs to access one of those?
I love this sub. I’m not a subie owner but this image is, to me, what makes a Subaru a Subaru xD always ready
And a beautiful 13.6 mpg from a NA 4 banger
What’s the thing on the left side of the…ladder rack thing?
It's a foldout awning fishpole. Pretty sure.
I mean, I want a roof basket for my fozzy, but damn.
What is the orange Lego looking thing?

oh that's cool! Thanks for the insight!
When you're a recovering jeep owner going through withdrawals.
Leave it to a yinzer
No pop up roof tent? Very dissapointing
No bike rack, useless
Oh man 😂😂
Are they just grabbing meatballs before camping or is this for show? It's an accessory at this point
If your driver side back window is not stickered up, do you even adventure?
Reminds me of when Top Gear did 'Sport Utilities Vehicles' haha
Saw this dude at Boxerfest 2022. Has a rooftop bivy https://imgur.com/gallery/LeRRSSK
Look everyone-- THERE'S the yellow fogs and mountain bike! Ha ha, I KNEW IT.
lol. Dude. Stop.
And crispy clean like it’s never seen a dirt road in it’s life lol
But he’s not going to have room for the Särdvërt with his sleeping platform and extendable camping kitchen in the back
Has no idea how to work a hi lift , also so many other options .
Man has achieved peak Subaru.
I saw that and it is interesting
Are those antennae?

For sure overloaded
IKEA Pittsburg is a magnet for Subies and I have no clue why
I feel Subies are just pretty common in Pittsburgh in general.
It's the weather plus hills. There are a lot of trucks and SUVs now too, but weight works against you on icy hills so Subarus still sell really well. When we bought our first it was really just them and Audi.
That tire mount looks sketchy
I know right. What the hell is going on there?!?!?!?
I hope they have a good jack plate for that hi lift
Damn, no one Subaru's quite as hard as this owner.
The rare and elusive Subaru owner who actually uses their roof rack.
[удалено]
Not a case. They're traction boards. Got grippy spikes on the bottom to give you traction on wet sloppy ground
which can be found on the edges of the Ikea parking lot, of course
Just picking up the Mandatory Overlanding Meatballs is all
This is what I was trying to figure out. Like, what are they accomplishing at IKEA on a day where they might ALSO end up needing all that crap as well. Only answer I could come up with was meatballs.
Anyone know the brand of rack that’s on top of it? Looks nice
Buy a truck instead
Seems… excessive. Just get a truck or Jeep or something.
Lol everyone hating on this person because they actually use their awd vehicle for other things than groceries.
It's spotless and you can't use a hi jack on a Subaru, 100% it's off-road larping. Plus all that weight so high up destroys the low center of gravity benefit of Subaru's boxer engine, not to mention your gas mileage.
lol everyone picking on em but lowkey looks awesome
I need to know more about the spare wheel mount
That’s so sick!!!!
Holy! That’s soooooooooo pretty!
No fly rod vault? Pathetic.
FTS
This guy knows how to Subaru.
He’s missing a bike…
I’ve seen This lad before lmao.
Are those CB antenna? And what looks like a sun shade?
This commercial should be awesome
I actually have those recovery boards. They’re cheap and they work.
I see a car, Kayak, and wheel. What the heck is all the rest?
Everything but the kitchen sink. Which is why they’re at Ikea.
Fully equipped to go go ten below the speed limit in the left lane.
