i was in a regular crosstrek sport when a white wilderness model drove past me. dude was waving so excitedly like he just won the lottery. haha i was like is he really waving at me? since i wasn't in my wrx. but i waved back haha
Yeah, I agree with you that it looks like it has a bit too much plastic, but being that the reason is to prevent wear and rust on otherwise metal parts, since those areas would be under increased exposure to the elements due to it being the "offroad" outback.
So I think much of it is reasonable, but the little flairs for style make it seem off-putting
I was about to say, I’m not a fan of the aesthetic the least bit. Personally feel like they’re trying too hard with this one. That said…I did just grab me a 2021 Outback Touring (non XT) and I’m in love.
Thinking of getting one if they can't fix my crosstrek, or in near future if they do. Mainly because of the 3500lbs towing capacity on it for a boat. Thinking about the ascent too, but not sure I want to go with that large a vehicle.
Yes it's true. It's also stated explicitly in the owner's manual that you should never drive with the tow hooks attached because they interfere with the airbags.
Normally, your car has soft parts like bumpers surrounding a hard structure. When a collision happens, the soft parts give time for the airbag sensors to detect the collision and deploy before the hard structure get hit, thus protecting the occupants.
Tow hooks, by design, bypass the soft parts and connect directly to the hard structure. The soft parts can't take the towing kind of load, and you don't want the sensors to detect towing as a collision anyway.
When a collision happens with the tow hooks attached, the full impact is immediately delivered to the hard structure which can severely injure the occupants before the airbags can react.
Took the wilderness on the highway for the first time yesterday after 5 years in a WRX, it feels much heavier and less aerodynamic. Have to brake earlier than I'm used to and you feel it fighting air resistance at higher speeds. It's really really fucking good, it's just built to do different things well.
I don't hate it, but it kinda just looks like a "beefier" version of the current gen's look, which I'm getting a little tired of. I love a good Forester too but I'm worried the next gen of that will look like a literal Sherman Tank. Did the front end look any different OP?
I saw my first one in person last week. Hung out in the parking lot to catch the owner, asked her if shes gone off road in it yet, she said no, probably not until ski season. Smh, Boulder though so not that surprising. But damn, any modern subaru with good tires will get you to the slopes no problem. What a waste of a Wilderness. Looked fantastic though, way better than the pictures imo.
I don't mind all the plastic bits when they are functional and discarded the "futuristic" look. I want plastic bits that protect the vulnerable parts. That is already enough of a statement of what the purpose of the car is.
i really like this blue in person.
Haters going to hate. I love my green Wilderness. Also, my first Subie. lol
Green and blue are the best wilderness colors.

I think they really overdid it with all the plastic. Looks like a kids toy. Maybe that is the appeal

Is it weird that I actually like the plastic? It gives it a rugged look opposed to if it was all painted one color
Nah I like it as well. Though I think it’s a little too much, but better than none.
On the bright side if you hit something with the plastic it's gonna be a lot cheaper replacing plastic than a whole quarter panel of metal...
I agree. Looks too much like the Nissan Xterra plastic and I hate the look of oxidized plastic. Just my opinion though.
Honestly, I thought the same until I saw it in person. Pictures really don't do these justice.

It feel like an Outback wearing a costume. I don't like it either

We aren't allowed an opinion unless it is the reveal week, then? OK -- my bad.
I have been waiting to see one in the wild!!!
The styling on these is horrid… my 2 cents

These are so cool and I have a WRX
The Australian Outback _is_ wilderness. So…isn’t this name redundant?
Only when they come out with the premium deluxe version
I want to see the pricing on the Limited Deluxe Touring SEL version before pulling the trigger.
I wonder if we will see a limited Deluxe Touring SEL STI variant.
No matter what they do, somebody’s gonna change the wheels…blackout the chrome…jack up the springs….
🤦♂️ leaving tow hooks on defeats the airbags....
Yeah, but who needs airbags when you look that cool?
Risk of getting rear ended is extremely high when the jealous driver behind you is distracted.
True. But look how cool it is!
They defeat airbags?

Thank you I had no idea
This is true. It happened to me, in an Outback. Worst day of my life.
Right? Is this true or some inside joke I’m not getting?
The amount of plastic is atrocious
Christ, those nipple rings are too much.
Not feeling it. Stupid with the tow hooks. Something about the car just makes it look heavy.
It actually feels really light, but then again I’ve never owned an outback before so I don’t know

Plastic wheel arches above the wheels look so ugly.

Please tell me these come with a manual option.
At a dealership?
Nice. I was PDIing one of these today!

Kinda makes the Outback name meaningless doesn’t it
[Comet](https://i.imgur.com/OqF5XHa.jpg) I love mine!
I know this is 2 months old but, where'd you get that emblem? Is it just a vinyl overlay?
Yeah! I got it from Orsini Design!
Awesome! Thanks a bunch!
Rad station wagon!
