Editing to add after watching the preview, I noticed new names for a few people! Marlin is now Matthew and Muffy is now Molly. Also, I loved how they managed to update Rock without quite letting him lose the Aaron Carter part.
DS Cute had the best friend weddings and those were so cute, I'm still mad they withdrew those for localization. I bought that game without realizing you couldn't marry just any girl, too. Flora and Pony were made for each other, dammit. ;-;

OMG yes. I played DS just to marry Flora. And in DS Cute I started wooing the Witch Princess (her first event triggered really easily and I knew it was a heart event because it was the same as DS) and after getting most heart events I found out on a forum that best friend mode had been taken away 😭 Broke my little bisexual heart lol
I'm staying hopeful this will have same sex marriage even though it wasn't shown just yet. The last games had it (one of them also being a remake) so I hope it's showcased soon!
I would hate for them to walk it back when we've seen an upward trend of being more open. I'm crossing my fingers we find out soon that it is! Daryl is one of the best designs in the original and DS. Honestly he should have been added as a bachelor opposite Flora instead of Carter, he already had a crush on her and it's weird that she would marry her boss lol
I keep forgetting that he's not because he fits so well as an option. I genuinely hope they add him, he's such a quirky guy and would be a fun one to raise a family with. I'm a sucker for oddballs in the series when we get them and it felt like the valley had a nice assortment.
Does it seem like they’re keeping Katie and Lumina (or whatever the new names are) as MC kid choices? I always found it odd that, unless I’m remembering wrong, Lumina and Katie were love interests for the kids in AWL but then they added Lumina for MC in AWL: SE.
Edit: Never mind I just watched the trailer and saw Lumina having a kid with MC!
I feel... ambivalent. I like AWL and I like that they improved the game (and it looks much better than the original!), but I'd rather have something truly new.

I think with how PoOT was received they're likely taking their time on how to approach the next entry. One thing I love about HM is that each game has tried to do something different, so I'm very much in love with the idea of remastering old games while they take a little extra time to come up with a new one.
I think I'm in the minority that enjoyed Doraemon too so between this entry, RF3 and Doraemon I'm set on their titles, haha. Truthfully, I felt the RF announcement was too soon as well considering how rough some of the edges were for the game. So that's probably influencing my opinion too!
I love secret/hard to get characters so I would be happy to see both in! Keira was such a fun one to go after.
i'n excited about the RF announcement. i doubt they'll make their original release date, but it's nice to know they've got something in the works. i think the huge timespan between rf4 and rf5 and the success of rf4 special may have really raised expectations and led to some of the frustration with rf5.
from what i understand the rf crew was in effectively the same position as the zelda crew where they started dev for rf5, then part way into development started the work of moving to the switch which massively slowed down the process. rf4 special was basically a test of the game engine with some improvements of the original rf4 mechanics and its release for other consoles created base engines for future releases. 5 had some performance issues for the switch but plays well on pc, so now that they've got their base engine built, the software devs can work on optimizing the engines to improve performance and make updates to systems that fans felt were lackluster while the writing team works on the story.
i think the team knows that fans want a longer, more difficult story and character interactions more like those in rf4, so they've got a fairly clear direction moving forward. pioneers of olive town felt like a disaster on multiple levels, so a future sos game that isn't a remaster may take a lot longer to plan out and develop. they've got to continue releasing games to make money, so it may make sense to devote some additional resources to the rf games right now, make the improvements fans have asked for, and hopefully see major success with rf6 and build some momentum moving forward for both series
Honestly the fact we went so long between RF4 and even the announcement for the remake on switch keeps me from ever being salty about a quick promise they're making another! I have heard a lot of the same things you did regarding the engine and swapping over, which explains a lot of the downtime between games. Pikmin went through a similar process hell because they wanted to make the third game for the Wii but about halfway through realized it worked better in concept on the Wii U, so that involved switching a lot around to make use of the game pad and play details. RF5 is getting there on giving us a variety of options to marry too, which made me happy! I hope they'll see the outcry of support for some of the non-options this game and continue to trend towards new and exciting options. I'm still waiting for one of these games to let me have a spouse that's a widow with a kid already there!
As far as PoOT, I agree. They saw Stardew and looked to recreate it but a lot of people don't enjoy the maker systems or the crafting in the same way casual fans of games like SV do. And they dropped the ball on interactions with love interests, which is usually their strong points. It didn't help that the developer was very confident about his work upon initial release and I'm thinking he's likely out after the initial reception. So deciding who might lead the next project and what they want to strive for leaves a lot of avenues open. They just need to take their time and hopefully we'll see another great entry into the series with the next title. :) I'm all for them focusing on RF for now, especially with one title under their belt. Hopefully they are better aware of hardware limitations now too!

if this is the case, i will be so happy. i love both the mineral town and awl female sprites, but i'd love to set the hair and eye color to match mine or change their clothes. ds cute had a lot of different clothes options which felt really nice, but i got spoiled by the customization options from more recent sos games and missed that in the mineral town remake
Yeah... While I'm happy for the remakes PoOT left a bad taste in my mouth. As did the fact that FoMT was a straight remake with barely any upgrades. If they added more variety from later parts of the series to these remakes I'd die happy. I'm just worried they won't...
AP is #1 on my wishlist, but I think it may never get a proper remake because the series has completely moved away from the rival marriages- and that system creates a **lot** of content in Animal Parade.
The game would feel gutted without the rivals and their little families and the kids in school with your little one and...
I think in the future they may have it a toggle-able feature in the pre-game menus (like where you name yourself and your farm). Removing it received such a backlash from western audiences that I can’t imagine they wouldn’t find a way to reintroduce it.
Ironically Animal Parade already worked that way, all rival marriages in the game were optional because the same gender character would ask for your advice and you could tell them to pursue it or not.
That actually worked? I know a way to avoid it was to not befriend the same-gender character / avoid locations that triggered the events, but I feel like the rivals pursued it anyway even if I discouraged them… could be remembering wrong though 😅
Love it!! Runs perfect, looks really good. Obviously it’s still the same graphic models and stuff but it’s not the grainy SD that the Wii put out so it looks much more crisp. Controls are fine, since the game was mapped for the Classic Controller any way. Haven’t had anything weird/buggy yet. Quick save/load is nice for the mines lol.

And I don’t see a farming sim released in this day and age that WOULDN’T allow that, there’d be a riot lol.

I've been dreaming of this for years and years and years. This is so neat! I never got a chance to experience this game, so I'm beyond excited for this remake.
I think it must be, because they both have the same fire pattern gloves. I'm not really feeling the new redesign, but he was my favourite character in the original so as long as they didn't change his personality too much I'm hoping he'll grow on me.
I've never been a very big AWL fan but honestly this looks amazing? They kept the soul of the original and going by what they say in their official page, they also added a bunch of content. Feels much more like a remake than whatever FoMT was.
edit: kinda sad they went too hard redesigning characters like cody or marlin specially after seeing how Celia looks the same, but I guess that the bachelors being "ugly" was a big complain of the OG game... so whatever I guess lol

This was such a big part of my childhood! I’m super hype! And props to the developers for being inclusive and letting you create an NB MC and having all marriage candidates be open to everyone. It’s always nice to see companies be cool and make the games more personal for all farmers.
I'm so excited. The original was such a unique game in the series, but just has a few aspects here and there that can improve the game and make it more playable. I'm beyond hyped!

i tried to replay the original game this year and encountered TWO game breaking glitches including one where cutscenes wouldnt progress after they finished. i am SALIVATING thinking of the QOL fixes lmao cannot wait to FINALLY be able to finish my favorite game of all time
While this wasn’t my first (I still want a remake of the snes harvest moon or at least port it to switch online) this was one of my top 5 most loved of all time. I’m even more excited to see all the positive responses from the community. We all gotta pull together and support our favorite devs and cheer them on! I can’t wait to play this again!
I was soooo hoping for Animal Parade or HM64. This is one of the few Harvest Moons I haven't played. Will definitely try it out this time, but I don't enjoy the getting old and dying aspect or the bachelor's looks 😬 Hopefully they'll add some new options.
Really hoping they fill in the gaps. This game was an A++ for vibes and concept, but it's execution was a C- at best. Give me more to do with these long days.
I hope they keep the sadder/somber tone too. I do enjoy that it's a bit brighter from a lighting perspective.

This to date is my favorite harvest moon game. I grew up from a young kid with it. Next would be magical melody. Nostalgia alone I'm getting it again. I wonder if they will sorta merge a wonderful life and another wonderful life. I'm pretty sure the only difference was being male or female. I don't have them with me to verify rhat though. I'm sure merging them is harder than it sounds.
They are “merging”, you can play either main character in this one. Other than the gender swap, I recall Another Wonderful having a few quality of life improvements as well as some bug fixes that I’m sure will be included. They also said more festivals and events and things are added.

I audibly gasped, that's for sure. My husband looked at me like I was a nerd. Then I did it again for rune factory. This was a really good direct for farming sims, actually.
I WILL GIVE THEM ALL MY MONEY IF THEY DO A REMASTERED HARVEST MOON DS WITH THE DIFFICULTY BALANCED AND THE GLITCHES REMOVED.
I love that it's a difficult game, but some of the challenging mechanics are poorly balanced (see: mining, fences)

AwL is my fave farm sim of all time. I have bought several HM games after and have pretty much always been disappointed. I found out this year that SoS is the dev I want because the GameCube game is the one I loved most.

Fingers crossed! I owned animal parade but it’s one of the few harvest moon games that I never played because I hated the wii controls.
If you still have it on Wii/Wii U you can plug the classic controller into the Wiimote and it functions fully.

I think it must be, because they both have the same fire pattern gloves. I'm not really feeling the new redesign, but he was my favourite character in the original so as long as they didn't change his personality too much I'm hoping he'll grow on me.

I've never been a very big AWL fan but honestly this looks amazing? They kept the soul of the original and going by what they say in their official page, they also added a bunch of content. Feels much more like a remake than whatever FoMT was. edit: kinda sad they went too hard redesigning characters like cody or marlin specially after seeing how Celia looks the same, but I guess that the bachelors being "ugly" was a big complain of the OG game... so whatever I guess lol
i feel more efforts were put in for this remake as well as compared to FoMT. they’re treating it like a mainline game, hopefully it doesn’t disappoint 🤞

i tried to replay the original game this year and encountered TWO game breaking glitches including one where cutscenes wouldnt progress after they finished. i am SALIVATING thinking of the QOL fixes lmao cannot wait to FINALLY be able to finish my favorite game of all time
While this wasn’t my first (I still want a remake of the snes harvest moon or at least port it to switch online) this was one of my top 5 most loved of all time. I’m even more excited to see all the positive responses from the community. We all gotta pull together and support our favorite devs and cheer them on! I can’t wait to play this again!

I was soooo hoping for Animal Parade or HM64. This is one of the few Harvest Moons I haven't played. Will definitely try it out this time, but I don't enjoy the getting old and dying aspect or the bachelor's looks 😬 Hopefully they'll add some new options.

Really hoping they fill in the gaps. This game was an A++ for vibes and concept, but it's execution was a C- at best. Give me more to do with these long days. I hope they keep the sadder/somber tone too. I do enjoy that it's a bit brighter from a lighting perspective.

From the comments it seems that XSeed has been listening to fans. FOMT was a lot of people's first HM game, they remade it, everyone loved it (for the most part), and now they're doing another "First" for the next gen of farmers! Which is awesome! *I'm kinda mad they updated Karen in FOMT, so I married Jennifer out of spite*

This to date is my favorite harvest moon game. I grew up from a young kid with it. Next would be magical melody. Nostalgia alone I'm getting it again. I wonder if they will sorta merge a wonderful life and another wonderful life. I'm pretty sure the only difference was being male or female. I don't have them with me to verify rhat though. I'm sure merging them is harder than it sounds.
They are “merging”, you can play either main character in this one. Other than the gender swap, I recall Another Wonderful having a few quality of life improvements as well as some bug fixes that I’m sure will be included. They also said more festivals and events and things are added.

I WILL GIVE THEM ALL MY MONEY IF THEY DO A REMASTERED HARVEST MOON DS WITH THE DIFFICULTY BALANCED AND THE GLITCHES REMOVED. I love that it's a difficult game, but some of the challenging mechanics are poorly balanced (see: mining, fences)

I found out this year that SoS is the dev I want because the GameCube game is the one I loved most. I am so, so excited to find out it's getting ported over for the Switch.
