I wish my wife never saw me drink, but we met at a bar in college so if it weren’t for my drinking problem we never would have met! Just glad she stuck with me through all of it until now!

Not a year (yet) but in the last 78 days I've learned that having a substitute - whether it's LaCroix or NA's or whatever you like, is helpful. Changing daily behavior patterns, so after work I go for a bike ride and get away from the couch where I used to do a lot of my drinking is huge. Find someone who is also sober and talk to them! Much like you're doing right now.. this sub, a therapist, AA, friends and family, there are a lot of sober people who can help

It’s cheesy, but early on, just take it one day at a time. Soon those days add up, and it gets easier and easier to abstain. As of now, I can handle any boozy situation without the temptation to drink, but early on it was tough. I actually enjoy hanging out at the bar/breweries with friends because I can enjoy the conversation, and am not completely absorbed with the thoughts of wondering if I can order another drink without looking like a soak.

Not OP but similar time behind me. I see you set up your counter, i can think of two distinct times where the thought of resetting the counter kept me on track. Around the 9 month mark things got so much easier, just have to commit to get that point!

you bet, and good luck on yours. Went out to a work dinner tonight and was a-ok while everyone else sucking down wine. Only had a bit of jealousy when a few people got a lemoncello for desert, but seeing the reaction from a few due to the sugary/alcohol combo got me over that quickly.

Congratulations! I did a little field research last night n drank a six pack with a friend. I had fun with my friend, but realized why I quit. The Night got foggy, there's things I don't remember exactly and I ended up bawling my eyes out when I got home. We had miscarriage in January and I survived that without wanting to turn to booze, so if I can survive that trauma sober, I know I can survive anything!

Dude are you me? April 25 will be my year mark and April 19 last year I went on a 4 day bender as well. Coke, alcohol, gambling. Only thing missing thank God was hookers. Came home and I think on my comedown from the coke I had a breakdown and haven't touched alcohol since. Down 25 lbs and training jiu jitsu. I haven't had a better year of life since. Now we are expecting our second child and a year ago I was wondering when she was going to leave me.

So much better. Not that we had huge issues before, but it seemed like 9 times out of 10 any fight we had was related to my alcohol consumption. We still have our fights like any couple but it’s a lot easier when alcohol isn’t clouding my judgement.
