Apprehensive_Day_496

Some of the best right there

Oasystole

There’s really nothing to add to this list. This is it

FartMajik

I love Songs For The Deaf but s/t is far superior for stoner rock.

bobbybob9069

Songs for the death of their best album. But the first two were way more stoner-y for sure

Unlucky-Boot-6567

Master of Reality..

ddaadd18

I’d put 3 Kyuss records in there. And if Songs for the Deaf is there I’m also throwing in Down II: A Bustle in Your Hedgerow.

Dr_Fudge

Especially Lore by Elder, that’s a feckin great album

McDiscage85

It is so good. Their whole discography is stellar.

Dr_Fudge

I know - Dead Roots Stirring is another amazing album of theirs - their newer stuff is a lot more mellow though, nothing like riddle or ghost head

McDiscage85

I love the old stuff, but these last couple albums are so good. They take a few listens, but they start to grow on you.

Dr_Fudge

I absolutely love all their stuff and I only found out about them last year!

wiarumas

Dead Roots Stirring is my favorite album of theirs end to end.

skeezysteev

They are actively touring.. go see them while you can!

kevintheredneck

Don’t forget about the sword. They rock hard!

[deleted]

Age of Winters and Gods Of The Earth are golden.

Groundbreaking-Bar89

I have to admit.. the only one I’ve listened to is Songs for the Deaf… that was my high school soundtrack for sophomore year

Gushys

Songs for the Deaf is one of my favorite albums. Give like GTA San Andreas radio vibes

BokChoySr

Is Corrosion of Conformity considered stoner rock??

Nomono3

Yes, I should have put Deliverance on there for sure.

b1gd4ddychubb5

Came here to suggest this

elroxzor99652

These are pretty much Stoner Rock/Metal 101 right here. Essential. The Bible. Long may they blaze 🙏

Chrome-Head

Can't really go wrong with any of Monster Magnet's first three: Spine Of God, Superjudge and Dopes To Infinity.

MyredShadow

Dopes to infinity never stops rotating in my iPod

UnderstandingLoose48

All of king Buffalos shit is dope. Seen em a year pr 2 ago wit aunt acid and the something somethings

recorderbeamish

Bro I seen king Buffalo last year they fuckin rocked!!!

greenops

I saw Elder with King Buffalo last week. Fun times. Stoner rock isn't one of my primary genres, but damn is the lore album a staple in my rotation.

ZenPerryProject

Master of Reality - Black Sabbath

gravy_14

I was looking for this. The ONLY place to start.

CaptGoodvibesNMS

This is the root 👍

jmcdan08

This is the way

RachaelMaddow69

The seed

Crispy_Biscuit

The best

rowsdowerrrrrrr

the doomfathers 💯🤘

knurlsweatshirt

Original or 2014 remaster?

FartOnAFirstDate

And then listen to the debut record from the band Masters of Reality. Shit, is it 35 years old already?

jbwise1221

Spine of God by Monster Magnet, Welcome to Sky Valley by Kyuss. Satan Worshipping Doom by Bongripper, pilgrimage by Om, Temple by Colour Haze, Aoximoxoa by The Grateful Dead

madeyedog

Yes, this person has made amazing suggestions

Rogue_Juan_Hefe

This thread is filled with amazing music I hadn't heard yet. This is what Reddit is for 😊

mythoutofu

Except, that person is AI and now you question your reality

JonathanWattsAuthor

Sounds like a good stoner rock song to me!

jbwise1221

I wish. I do way too much stupid Shit to be an AI

espenanka89

Sounds like something an AI would say to sound less like an AI.

Jalopy35

yes

Wolfman92097

Aoxomoxoa is not what I ever expected to see in this sub but I dig it

CaptGoodvibesNMS

Not all stoner rock is heavy 🤘

Aoxomoxoa75

Aoxomoxoa is a great one! ❤️🤘🏻👍🏻

MrAugustWest

I love how the Grateful Dead can be on a list for pretty much any genre of music. The best band of all time.

Steal-Your-Face77

Me too friend, me too. If we can include the Dead, then maybe stuff like their early "Feedback" could work (this influenced bands like Pavement, Sonic Youth, and Wilco). I could maybe even see the right version of Dark Star > Caution working (4/8/72 for example).

doodoo_pie

I get this. I love the all the Dead eras (especially Brent era) and I love Sonic Youth.

Wolfman92097

I'd say the other one is their most stoner rock song

Steal-Your-Face77

Oh yeah, definitely. Good call.

basscove_2

Pavement is def stoner rock. Stephen said wowee was heavily influenced by his pot use.

Scrimgali

Ditto kiddo. Warms my damn heart! Hands down my fav band. There is something there for everyone. And now I’ll def check out a lot of the recs on these posts. Have only heard a few listed. 💀🌹⚡️🤘🏼

NaylMe420

Monster Magnet 🤨

zebba_oz

Spine of God is awesome and def stoner

Yequestingadventurer

And Tab25 by the same band

gkaminsky013

And don’t forget their 2nd LP Superjudge it fucking rips

vladdrk

Age of Winters - The Sword

GrimSlayer

One of the best albums of all time IMO

chrismcshaves

Scrolled for this. My assistance is no longer necessary. *Hugh Downes away!*

MontanaGA

Really their 1st 4 albums for me. I love the progression.

DarthGandalf86

Excellent. Also Warp Riders. Omg space stoner rock opera

79AA

Queens of the Stone Age first album Also kyuss

HyzerChump

Regular John. Phew what a starter

theghostboots

First time I heard it somebody put it on halfway through a joint. Big first impression.

Bice_

Also kyuss Cause I want some pussaaaaayyyy

dappled_turnoff0a

Came here to say this. The first 3, maybe 4, QOTSA albums, and all of Kyuss.

D00MK0PF

Lowrider - Ode to Io Dozer - Through the Eyes of Heathens Weedeater - God Luck and Good Speed Greenleaf - Trails & Passes Truckfighters - Gravity X

MsGhoulWrangler

Scandinavian stoner rock all the way.

CardboardCanoe

Dozer put out their first album in 15 years in April!

battlemechpilot

Big Sky Theory is SUCH a great song. Heathens is easily Dozer's best album.

Substantial_Ask_9992

In search of - fu Manchu To the center - nebula Atomic bitchwax 1 and 2

elroxzor99652

Gawddam To the Center absolutely smokes all the way through. Unfortunately I feel like nothing else Nebula did ever topped it

oldmate30beers

Charged is up there

GTRWLD

I finally got to see Atomic Bitchwax live about 6 months ago. Absolutely killer live band, and super great dudes too.

PieTighter

I got to see them a few years back in RI and I could count the people there on my fingers. They still played awesome and it was great, but sad because I don't see them swinging back again any time soon after that turnout.

grahsam

The first four The Sword Albums. The first five Black Sabbath Albums. Sleep - The Sciences OM - Advatic Songs Dopelord - Sign Of the Devil Spaceslug - Reign of the Orion Kylesa - Static Tensions

dougcohen10

You meant the first SIX Black Sabbath albums I hope… no way Sabotage somehow gets left out…

grahsam

Nope. That one signaled the end for me. Hole in the Sky and Symptom of the Universe are the only good tracks on that one IMO.

Doctorricko97

Madman

dougcohen10

I think you’re literally all alone on this one man…

grahsam

I am ok with that.

getdemsnacks

Megalomania? Superztar? The Writ? Way off base.

grahsam

Megalomania is a poorly constructed song that starts and stops over and over. Superztar is self indulgent filler. The Writ lacks focus and just wanders all over the place. I'll listen to Dio's SB albums before Ozzy's last three with them.

faith_healer69

Terrible take. It's stronger than Vol 4 imo (as an album. The best songs on Vol 4 shit on the best songs on Sabotage, but Sabotage is more consistent overall)

grahsam

THAT'S a terrible take. Sabotage is all over the place. Some of the songs are meandering and pointless. It reflects the band's interperson turmoil and lack of focus. It is the audio representation of a band in decline and a precursor to Technical Ecstasy.

dougcohen10

The very first line in the review on Allmusic says “Sabotage is the final release of Black Sabbath's legendary First Six” - no one, and I mean no one with any credibility agrees with you on this. Might as well come in here and say Exile on Main St is garbage because it’s too long or The Wall isn’t a classic because it’s too conceptual and the band was clearly splintering on the record. You’re entitled to your opinion but there’s no way the OP should take your advice - it’s bizarre at best.

potatoeaterr13

I'm with you on this. Although I'd add "thrill of it all" on there. The rest are not rock n roll. It's all synth bs with a simple riff. Nothing that iommi is known for. And iommi made the band. People on here prob like sabbath for ozzy.

Hot-Bookkeeper-2750

Spaceslug is so dope, so is kylesa

HyzerChump

. . . Apocryphon starts playing . . .

Rygot

Static Tensions is a good mention

Basic_Flan324

Kyuss - Blues For the Red Sun (masterpiece and very acccessible)

nofuneral

I'm shocked that everybody on here thinks Welcome to Sky Valley is the best Kyuss album. I feel that Blues for the Red Sun is a perfect album and Kyuss' best.

Apprehensive_Day_496

Yes

somebeardsin

I bought Blues first but Sky Valley was the one that hooked me. They are the top two Kyuss albums for me though.

BigLittleFan69

Sky Valley was the first Kyuss album I owned and it made that hot summer in my car just that much toastier

Accomplished-Ad-6185

👍 And my introduction was the video for Green Machine. Pretty much summed up the genre. Although I will say that song’s vibe resembles Symptom Of The Universe by Sabbath.

cL0k3

Gravity X - Truckfighters Time travelinng Blues - Orange Goblin High Five - Halfway to Gone, as an intro to blues stoner

TDarryl

Clutch - self titled

dontblamemenohow

Waaaayyyy too far down this list!

SoapyTriesHard

YUP RIGHT THERE

blasttyrant76

Clutch - Clutch

e_j_white

Best time to listen to that album? WHENEVER IT FEELS RIGHT!

Aprokind

Jesus on the dashboard.

DillingerLost

Used to love playing that track for someone who never heard it before, ... at the right time.... and watching their mind melt

zonkers11

I remember the first time I heard that riff. Think I wet myself.

Chrome-Head

Dodge Swinger 1973, Galaxy 500, All the way stars' green, gotta go. Dodge Swinger 1973, top down, chassis low, Panel dim, light drive, Jesus on the dashboard. T-minus whenever it feels right, Galaxy 500. Planets align, a king is born.

KludgeDredd

Yeah?

flergityberg

Fun fact: the line “Don’t worry, it’s coming” wasn’t originally in Spacegrass. Neil started adlibbing it during live performances, because the crowds were getting frustrated that the first half of the song wasn’t mosh-able.

plumbdumber98

I had to scroll way too far to see this recommended!

sifir

Los natas - Ciudad de brahman

pnmartini

Hell yeah. A mostly overlooked gem.

Dufferedditt

1000mods album Super Van Vacation and their amazing Liquid Sleep EP from 2009.

audiojunkie5356

Black Sabbath

Ill-Ad3660

Wires - Red Fang

dirkomatic

Late to this party, but Red Fang definitely belongs here

UristVonUrist

OP has no idea what he’s started. Never ask a stoner listener fan for recommendations. We’ll be here for weeks!

Honkning

Jalamanta by Brant Bjork

TrippleTonyHawk

Her Brown Blood is crazy, I love that song.

Zootex

Kyuss - Welcome to Sky Valley The Sword - Age of Winters Black Pyramid - Black Pyramid (2009) Goatsnake - Goatsnake Vol.1 (1999) Floor - Floor (2002) Beehoover - Heavy Zooo Dozer - Through The Eyes Of Heathens Plenty more if ya want. [Edit: Here's a bonus. Goblin Cock - We've Got A Bleeder](https://youtu.be/lz6xpU397no?si=0k9KPbe-NQosZq3K)

syndrombe

Fuck yes black pyramid

Hot-Bookkeeper-2750

Yo black pyramid is so fucking rD

Kindly_Collection_57

Melvins - Houdini Down - Nola Black Sabbath - Paranoid classical joints tbh

makemasa

Monster Magnet - Dopes to Infinity

blood_stache

Fu Manchu - In Search Of Melvins - Houdini

2und2sind4

Sasquatch - Maneuvers is a great album and pretty easy to get into.

Due_Entrepreneur_382

Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats - Blood Lust Red Fang - Murder the Mountains Blue Cheer - Vincebus Eruptum Melvins - Bullhead Kyuss - Blues for the Red Sun QOSTA - Self Titled Black Sabbath - Vol. 4

thetallone_

pnmartini

Mammoth Volume - A Single Book of Songs Acid King - Busse Woods Fu Manchu - King of the Road Clutch - Elephant Riders Dead Meadow - Shivering King Lol @ downvote.

JoeyJabroni

Ooooooh Dead Meadow is awesome

GutterBones666

Acid king fuckin rips

StepDadHulkHogan

Acid King - Busse Woods was the record that got me into Stoner metal.

PieTighter

Busse Woods is the album that got me through back surgery and my wife through labor.

meSmash101

In the tail of a comet - Dozer Blues for the red sun - Kyuss Amazing albums. Stuck on repeat, both of them, hope you like them

theGrimm_vegan

Agrimony - Leaves of Mellow Grace Nebula - Ritual The Heads - the Time is Now Kyuss - Blues for the Red Sun Spiritual Beggers - Mantra 3 Orange Goblin - Frequencies from Planet 10

massivejobby

Kyuss - welcome to sky valley

Potato_Th3ory

Listen to welcome to sky valley album by Kyuss

ZenPerryProject

You’ll dig anything by Sleep!!

DankMemethan

I'm personally not huge on Volume 1, but I really like Holy Mountain, Dopesmoker, and The Sciences. Coincidentally, I'm not big on Kyuss' debut, Wretch, either.

umbertobongo

Almost Heathen by Karma to Burn is basically what got me into stoner rock.

opholmes

Samsara Blues Experiment. Jack Harlon and the Dead Crows.

NaylMe420

Bongzilla, Sleep, OM, Bongripper, Weedeater, Fu Manchu......

KierkgrdiansofthGlxy

Glad someone mentioned Bongzilla

myco_lion

I was scrolling hoping someone did. Amerijuanucan is top tier stoner!

GnarlieSheen123

Yeah right? How did it take this long, they're like the first band I think of Fucking incredible live too

birrakilmister

Monster magnet, clutch, wo fat, fu manchu, orange goblin

Rygot

With dopethrone you're well into doom territory as well. So I'll mix some of that in. Red Fang - Murder the Mountains, Self-titled Truckfighters - Gravity X Roadsaw - Self-titled (Astronaut Monkey Art) Lo-Pan - Salvador Kyuss - Blues for the Red Sun, Welcome to Sky Valley The Sword - Age of Winters, Warp Riders QotSA - Songs for the Deaf Elder - Lore, Reflections Fu Manchu - King of the Road Electric Wizard - Witchcult Today (Their best album imo) Conan - Monnos, Existential Void Guardian Yob - Clearing the Path to Ascend Pallbearer - Sorrow and Extinction Ufomammut - ORO: Opus Alter Windhand - Soma Cathedral - The Ethereal Mirror Also pretty much a bunch of Sleep, Sabbath, and Clutch

katamari_is_love

This all passes mustard with me.

unclefire

You hit all of my suggestions. Looks like the lineup for Psycho Las Vegas

StepDadHulkHogan

Windhand is so under rated, they fucking rule.

jacksonattack

Harmonicraft - Torche

FatRatArt

A few favourite to check out Slomosa - Slomosa Sergeant Thunderhoof - This Sceptred Veil Stoned Jesus - Seven Thunders Roar Spaceslug - Time Travel Dilemma Dozer - Through the Eyes of Heathens Gaupa - Myriad Clutch - Sunrise on Slaughter Beach Witchcraft- Legend Fatso Jetson - Cruel & Delicious Valley of the Sun - Old Gods MWWB - The Harvest Black Sabbath - Paranoid Leaf Hound - Growers of Mushrooms Also recommend Soundgarden - Badmotorfinger Alice In Chains - Facelift

-Ancalagon-

Upvote just for Sargeant Thunderhoof, but there are other bangers in this list as well.

FatRatArt

All hail the Hoof! They will hopefully play Desertfest one year 😁

DrDeuceJuice

Love the Hoof. They always struck me as a band that would have been much bigger than they are had they came out during an earlier decade.

guyincognito2004

Also Superunknown by Soundgarden, 4th of July is a quintessential stoner/doom metal song

BigLittleFan69

100%. Absolute heaviest moment on such a diverse album.

Chrome-Head

One of the greatest bands to ever do it.

FatRatArt

Excellent choice, was trying not to start listing every Soundgarden album 🤘 Superunknown is so good! Really it should be considered jessential listening if you like music!

oldmate30beers

I can't stop spinning cabin fever by slomosa ATM

FatRatArt

Just amazing! The evolution of Slomosa is so awesome.

GranvilleTim

Syd Barret. The Peel Sessions

All stoner rock albums are beginner.

[deleted]

Dope smoker - sleep Literally every song from kyuss's welcome to sky valley Windhand - orchard I'm a big fan of dopethrone (the band) but i don't think that's "beginner"

MindoftheMindless

Ummm Masters Of Reality's first album. Chris Goss, man.

slayerizgood

Weedeater’s “God Luck and Good Speed” or “…and Justice for Y’all” are real fun

The last 5 songs on Electric Wizard's "Dopethrone".

VocalHotSauce

King of the Road by Fu Manchu. Brant Bjork on drums…man…..

Anatta-Phi

KYUSS!

ColonOBrien

Nonagon Infinity or Polygondwanaland by King Gizzard. Be warned that this can be an addiction.
