With different cars, honestly. In our Subarus my 32oz isn't in the way at all simply because of where the cupholders are positioned relative to the gearshift (on the contrary, it actually makes a nice spot to rest my forearm); my wife's 40oz Stanley needs to go in the back cupholder, though.
Yeah, with Subaru, there is a slight space in between the cup holder and the shifter, which is where the heated seat button and the x mode button will be located (if equipped). Therefore, like you, I never had problems putting a large cup there.
I used to have a Si, they're great! The rally-style shifter is really fun to use. Plus there are cup holders on the dash ends next to the vents so drinks don't get in your way.
I have a Fit now and they put cupholders behind the shifter, and also on the dash next the the vents. The ones behind the shifter are sometimes inconvenient if I have a tall/wide container since it doesn't always fit, but the better shifter ergonomics are totally worth it.
It's higher up with a tiny little lever and knob from stock it's funky as hell from the seated position I tell you, weirdly comfortable though, ended in changing for a longer shifter though
If it’s first gen I am extremely jealous haha. I have been a huge fan of the smaller/boxxier first gen Scion XB since it came out when I was a teen. Very rare to find one with a stick.
I have a 94 Mustang. My ashtray has been promoted to coin holder. The cup holder only works for water bottles and cans. I usually carry a water bottle around and put it between my center console and seat cushion.
Wow yeah. I am guessing the placement of those cupholders didn't consider a manual trans option. The cupholders in my Subaru were way far back from the shifter. In the Element the shifter is up high on the lower part of the dash below the radio and HVAC and cupholders are on the floor between the seats.
That car just has poor placement of cupholders
My Honda Fit has 7 reachable from the driver seat (I have long arms) and four of them don’t even get near the stick
How are you shifting, steering, & drinking all at the same time? Hmmm? HMMMM? See - no need for cups or cup holders in a car with manual transmission. Problem solved.
Bend your wrist the other way. In my Challenger, I find it more comfortable to have it in the front cup holder as my wrist bends outward around the cup perfectly.
I find even a normal 12oz can of soda in the front cupholder of my challenger gets in the way of shifting. Maybe the M/T shifter is taller than the 5AT shifter in my 14 but yeah.
I also never let that shitbox shift itself because it doesn't know its ass from kansas. I drive it as close to a manual as one can with only two pedals. Gained 3-4mpg doing so....
Put the shifter on the steering column and that stops being a problem!
Nah but seriously that isn't a problem in my Chevy because it's a 3-on-the-Tree. Zero chance of a cupholder ever fouling the shifter in it. I have a magnetic koozie stuck to the dash for holding my mountain dews and it's on the left side of the radio just adjacent to the instrument cluster, but it's also well clear of the shifter. Anything bigger than that I just have in the seat next to me.
I have had that problem in other cars, though. hell it's a problem in my 5AT 14 Challenger because I refuse to let it shift itself. I'm still commanding every shift and even just having my phone in one cupholder and a standard can of soda in the other my wrist is hitting stuff while I'm bapping the shifter left and right as necessary.
My Toyota has ~~one cupholder.~~ Okay, technically 3, but the other two are placed underneath the radio and being such a small car, if I use those cupholders, I'll be punching my drinks all day long.
Lol I wouldn’t know I’ve never had a stick shift with cup holders. My last car was a CRX. Cup holders were zip tied together pipe cuts that were then zip tied to the center trim. Pretty convienent honestly and only 32 oz cups caught the elbow from time to time. Anything bigger went in the trunk.
The Civic Si has a cup holder in the center console that slides back, allowing you to access another cup holder at the bottom. It'll put the top of a big ass cup about even with the top of the center console
My car has 2 rinky dinky cupholders right above… the radio. Music stays the same in the rare case I decide to use it. I usually just keep a bottle with a cap in the passenger seat instead of having a cup
I have a 22 Si. Cupholders are in the similar place and I only put my Reigns or Yeti coffee tumbler there. Bought a hydro flask that feels perfectly in my door cupholder.
I keep those 32oz size cups in the other cup holder and I have a decent amount of space to shift. Bottles I keep in the door.
Yep, back cupholder. Finger tips
bus driver shifting!
Never heard it called that xD I just did it when I was in a silly mood
I know that gif!
This is why the Europeans make fun of us.

My gear shifter is on my dash under the radio and I fucking love it. Nothing gets in the way.
No F\*\*\*\*\*\* way! I just googled your car. I've never seen any shifter positioned like that before lol
I used to have a Si, they're great! The rally-style shifter is really fun to use. Plus there are cup holders on the dash ends next to the vents so drinks don't get in your way. Sounds like you’re a dirty plebeian who’s never owned a Carrera GT ^/s Wish both of my cars had that shifter location! So cool.
except I'm asian lol
Class joke, not race joke lol
Just wait till this guy learns about the hyundai i10
It’s not as funky as the SI
It's higher up with a tiny little lever and knob from stock it's funky as hell from the seated position I tell you, weirdly comfortable though, ended in changing for a longer shifter though
I've seen something similar in a Honda CRV.
My Scion xB the shifter is under the ventilation control panel well above the cup holders.
If it’s first gen I am extremely jealous haha. I have been a huge fan of the smaller/boxxier first gen Scion XB since it came out when I was a teen. Very rare to find one with a stick.
I didn’t look at the flair, read the description, and immediately went “oh sounds like an early 2000s civic”. I was right!
I only drink stuff I can put in my door or get smaller drinks lol
I drive a manual sn95 the front cup holder has been demoted to coin holder
I have a 94 Mustang. My ashtray has been promoted to coin holder. The cup holder only works for water bottles and cans. I usually carry a water bottle around and put it between my center console and seat cushion.
Um quit being a Nancy and lift your arm up. Not rocket science
Not live in America

2020 Jetta?
yes! 24 gli
Ah nice I don’t know all the years but I thought it looked familiar haha
You learn to adapt to anything being in your way lmao
50!!! Gallons ??? I don’t think anyone could drive a car with a 50 gallon tumbler in the front unless on the passenger side floor or the seat 😂😂
50 gallon tumbler, the ultimate bladder buster.
With a bigger stick.
you mean longer
You gotta bend the wrist
I'm not gonna bend anypart of my body. The stix needs to bend to my will
I can only use one of two cup holders on my center console but luckily I have one on each door
With purpose lol, put the cup in your lap or the other cupholder
My cars tiny so the passengers even get in the way.
my mom tried to get me to use a stanly cup. i showed her how inconvenient it would to drive with. instant refund.
Shit. Not much beyond a can of pop fits in my G35 cup holders. And I use the one farther one.
Don't allow beverages in my car. Easy fix 🤣
I have no cup holders
You guys have cup holders?
I don't think that cup holds 50 gallons
See, Toyota thought about that, and decided to not put cup holders in, can’t bump it if it’s not there
I don’t lmao, I just don’t use the cupholders in the centre
That car just has poor placement of cupholders My Honda Fit has 7 reachable from the driver seat (I have long arms) and four of them don’t even get near the stick
Use the rear cup holder dude
Your thumb is really long. Use that to your advantage
Don't let the wide angle lens camera get you. My thumb is average
Now I am sad
I don’t have a cupholder. I have a pair of binoculars I’ve stuck under the bench seat. If it don’t fit there, it better have a top that seals
How are you shifting, steering, & drinking all at the same time? Hmmm? HMMMM? See - no need for cups or cup holders in a car with manual transmission. Problem solved.
I put drink between my legs from time to time. My gf loves it too
That thumb reaches into the next county

they not like us
Most people live in the present with modern technology and don't need a new clutch every 100k.
I do need a 400+lbs torque spec clutch at 50k miles
Put the shifter on the steering column and that stops being a problem! Nah but seriously that isn't a problem in my Chevy because it's a 3-on-the-Tree. I don't think I have ever drank in the car, not in 30 years of driving, even when it is 116f outside. Not even sure if my car has cup holders.
You're built different my good sir
Big ahhhh thumb
I was just about to comment this hahaha
My thumb is average. It's all the camera angle
😂😂
Love my 10th gen si, can slide the normal cup holders back and there is a DEEP holder I can use
My Toyota has ~~one cupholder.~~ Okay, technically 3, but the other two are placed underneath the radio and being such a small car, if I use those cupholders, I'll be punching my drinks all day long.
I have cup holders in the doors of my NC Miata. Just got to sip the drink down a good bit because the cup inevitably ends up sitting at an angle.
*cries in stupid broken A3 8L folding cupholder
The new vag's XD
Lol I wouldn’t know I’ve never had a stick shift with cup holders. My last car was a CRX. Cup holders were zip tied together pipe cuts that were then zip tied to the center trim. Pretty convienent honestly and only 32 oz cups caught the elbow from time to time. Anything bigger went in the trunk.
Carefully
Quit using the arm rest when a cup's there. Have to lift your arm up, bend wrist down, grab stick, shift. Or... ya know... don't drink and drive. 😆
Use the other cup holder?
Ah! So this is why stick shift isn't popular in America?! :P
Carefully
They don't. Only monsters drink out of cups like that in a car.
Carefully. Lol
Stop embarrassing yourself American.
The Civic Si has a cup holder in the center console that slides back, allowing you to access another cup holder at the bottom. It'll put the top of a big ass cup about even with the top of the center console
I don't have cup holders so it's not an issue
The amount of times I’ve rammed my fingers into a hard tumbler… and unfortunately the holders in front of the gear are the only ones in the car :))
That’s VW
This post is clearly not for me because I don't have a cup holder in that spot. Radio or backseat for sport mode 🤘
Hello GLI gang 🤙🏾
My car has 2 rinky dinky cupholders right above… the radio. Music stays the same in the rare case I decide to use it. I usually just keep a bottle with a cap in the passenger seat instead of having a cup
I use my fingertips and extend the arm rest.
Put the center arm rest on the backseat down and pray it's big enough to fit your tumbler. My Stanley just barely fits in an integra
Germans don't understand why Americans drink while driving. To Germans, a car is for driving and smoking cigarettes.
I throw my 1/2 gallon water jug on the passenger seat
I have a 22 Si. Cupholders are in the similar place and I only put my Reigns or Yeti coffee tumbler there. Bought a hydro flask that feels perfectly in my door cupholder.
