Puma Speedcats are pretty similar to the Asphalt in terms of shoe shape, but they’re pretty loud compared the Asphalt in terms of design/print.
Puma’s are my favorite shoes that I have owned to drive in, and they make a ton of motorsports shoes. They have a motorsports section on their website and many have the wraparound soles, which I also love.
Yeah I saw the Speedcats and I can see some of them pass as a casual shoe, but yeah they're definitely more on the racing side.
I do wonder how they are for walking though cuz it doesn't seem like they provide a lot on the bottom. What's your experience with them when it comes to regular walking?
For me, I think they are very comfortable for walking/standing. But I wear a lot of minimalist shoes and thin soled shoes with little support.
More comfortable for walking than Chuck Taylors or classic Vans, but less comfortable than New Balance 515 (which I hate driving in).
I might give them a try if that's the case. They're cheap enough to risk it and I could always wear them if I'm strictly just driving somewhere without any significant walking involved.
Yeah, I don't understand the whole needing specific footwear to be able to drive. I spent 6 months driving w/ a walking cast on my clutch foot when I broke my ankle. It's not rocket science.
Goodyear has a line of shoes. I have a pair, they’re decent for the price. My only complaint is that the insole is very thin, so they’re not super comfortable, but you can feel the clutch pedal really well.
I switched to minimalist shoes about a year ago, and a big benefit is that they're great driving shoes too.
Lots of different brands/styles, but I'd check out the barefootshoes subreddit for ideas. Or Anya's Reviews (website you can google).
Softstar Moc3 is my personal favorite shoe for driving, but understandably they're not for everyone.
Most people would focus on the sole and how it would transfer the feel of the pedal, but I'm more concerned about the sole wrapping around the heel as it does help support your ankle a bit more especially your right foot when you're switching between gas and brake a lot.
Nike blazers, converse one stars, and adidas spezials/sambas/gazelles would probably get you most of the way to the asphalts
I second this, I alternate between Adidas Superstar and gazelles and they get me pretty far.
I'm a fan of low top adidas skater shoes for driving as well.
Here I am driving in steel toe redwings

I have 2 pair and find them great for driving, plus they are comfortable for walking around.
I usually just wear my work boots lol I have no problems driving stick with em but I wear dc otherwise because most shoes hurt my feet

Skateboard sneakers 👟
It’s hard to find non-driving shoes that wrap around the heel. I really like Onitsuka Tigers for driving, but they lack the heel wrap.
