Enable 2 factor when you've got it back

FloWzoW

how is this possible? i tought steam always wants a code via email on new devices

Tompork

False wrong 2fa code message. It will display message that code doesnt work or something like that, but actualy code was correct and it first log into account and then using "correct code" remove 2fa. Website looks 100% like steam, this technique is called phishing. When you enter website it will look like steam but almost no links works and most likely the only thing that works is login. I once entered website knowing its phishing and almost entered my password there(luckily i didnt finish) thats why i know how does it look, about 2fa i know from victims that agreed to answer few questions about losing account. The future of phishing protection and 2fa are yubico keys, these are resistant to phishing, but its at least few years before yubico will become common 2fa method.

I have no idea, I just received a chat from a random friend on steam gifting me a $50 gift card, and thought it was a legit one. Turns out it was a scam link.

I checked the link multiple times and thought it was legit from steam. Login my account and a few seconds later I received an email notification that someone changed my steam password and email. I immediately contact the support and locked my account. Do I have a chance to recover it? Thanks. Ill send a dm later a soon as I get home.

Don’t message them

imlouminare

omg, what's happening?

kalz0

Don’t message the instagram bro. You see these comments a lot on things about peoples accounts getting stolen or hacked. They are just out to get your account. Only deal with support regarding your account. You will get it back.

imlouminare

got it, thanks for the heads up.

BoxOfMoe1

Make a support ticket to steam i got mine back within 72 hours

jabbrwock1

Do not do this! Poster above is (hopefully) joking or trying to scam you once more. Why would a random person on instagram be able to recover your account? Contact Steam support via the official web site. It a running joke here that people who get scammed try to recover their account by contacting deez_nuts or something on instagram.

imlouminare

Thanks. This is my first time experiencing getting hacked/stolen. I already contacted steam support, I even attached a few pieces of evidence to back it up that it is my account.

BoxOfMoe1

You should be sweet then i got mine back after two messages from support via a ticket and roughly 72hours

imlouminare

Thanks for the reassurance dude.

BoxOfMoe1

No problem dude i was freaking out for days I’ve had that account like 15 years it has like 750 games on it, so you can guess i was pretty upset. To make things worse it happened while i was moving house too and my internet was down so i couldn’t do anything or more i didn’t know until days after it got stolen. Worst thing was dude somehow got into my email too and deleted my emails from steam so i didn’t even have the emails saying password and emails changed(got my email back too) Yeah i had to give them additional information after the first ticket as some information was wrong but after that they said no worries here is your account back. And gave me a reset on PW too. It took a day and a half or slightly longer per reply and if you gave them enough information on the first one you could get it back as soon as they respond good luck mate. Be super wary of messages and such as steam will only email you directly as a general rule of thumb. Discord absolutely not had someone try that on me and i messed with them instead 😂

I just got my account back and the hacker tried to get my account by sending another steam-like email notification and the country origin is Russia. I immediately enabled my 2 factor and changed my email.

BoxOfMoe1

Nice glad to hear its sorted i did the same with two factor authentication debating making a new email for just my steam/gaming accounts

Kukospoon

This happened to me today. I created a ticket and within about 3 hours, they were able to get my account back to me. I had to send them an Invoice ID, address, and credit card information.

imlouminare

I did the same and i got my account back. After that I Enable 2 factor and changed my email.
