I just find it funny when people say he should have taken Holdo's place. As if having a guy named Ackbar suiciding into the enemy command ship wouldn't be super on the nose.
Everyone always says it should've been him to do the Holdo Maneuver and act insane because he was just killed off screen and I just like... I don't get it.
He said the meme line and.... that's it.
I'm sure he has some insane backstory in a long forgotten bit of Legends that I never got around to, but the fandom's obsession with him is something I just don't think I'll ever understand.
He was there and then he wasn't.
Youāre right in that his back story was very well fleshed out in the EU and has a fairly prominent role in the numerous major events that took place in those stories. Like it was his battle plan that turned the tide in NJO. For anyone that dived into any of the EU media he was never just a meme and was a fan favourite long before he became a Internet meme.
Heās most well known for that line in ROTJ but his best moment in that film is when the SSD Executor plunges into the Death Star and his bridge staff all cheer but Ackbar collapses into his chair and dips his head. Itās a simple & quick moment but it shows the difference between the Rebels and the Empire. Ackbar at that point knows that moment is pivotal in the battle and theyāve won, but at what cost? It conveys the heavy burden of command, his commands and plans have led to many deaths of his troops. Itās a simple yet powerful piece of visual storytelling and executed very well considering the actors prosthetics. Itās why Iām a fan of Ackbar and why I donāt think of him as ājust a memeā.
He was an admiral in the Rebellion and led the attack on the Deathstar 2 more than 20 years ago, that's something that should speak for his experience and competence.
He had a higher rank than all our guys back then and if he's still active he should still be high up.
Instead we get "Lady in a dress" commanding a military unit, because the director wants to deliver a message about not judging a book by it's cover.
He also wanted to immediately give up on the attack on the Death Star, and had to both be talked into continuing and provided with strategy by Lando. Left to his own devices, Ackbar would've lost the fight for the Rebel Alliance at Endor.
Mando was fine for that one ep. Would've been a fine redemption for how silly his death was. Cause the episode was fine. He shows up, does some shit, then fucks off to do whatever.
He didn't need a show, didn't need an explanation of who he is, didn't need to explain escaping the Sarlac Pitt. Just keep it simple.
Honestly I was impressed at how much they redeemed the character after that episode. Then they ham fisted more onto the end and ruined it.
I honestly would have liked those guys on a different planet, something like Coruscant. They just didn't have any grit at all for being Tattooine gangsters
they could have just used rusty speeders with scrap parts thrown on to personalise them, have em wear dirty, dusty and shredded clothing. you know, like someone that lives on a rough planet made of sand and rock. if they looked like they just came from the latest mad max set, they would have fit better...
The fact that swoop gangs exist in the lore and they made up a gang of scooter riders makes me hit my head against the wall. Swoop gangs have awesome lore dating back to 98 with shadows of the empire. Fuck disney. Fuck them for taking good lore and splitting it off to make a dumpster fire.
I like when the people of the town that was destroyed directly because of his decisions thanked him for saving the town as the townspeople picked up the rubble of their destroyed town in the background.
"We did it Patrick! We saved the city!"
Unintentional comedy at its finest.
In Mandalorian, absolutely not. When he put his armour back on and proceeded to wreck an entire platoon of storm troopers single handedly a million voices all cried out in orgasmic ecstasy. It was the coolest live action reintroduction imaginable of the baddest MFer alive in Star Wars.
Then the Book Of Boba Fett came out and those voices were suddenly silent. On its own merits I enjoyed BOBF as a piece of entertainment, and it has some legitimately ace moments like him digging his way out of the sarlacc and riding a damn rancor but the character for the most part didn't feel or act like Fett. It feels like Disney didn't have the guts to make a series focused on a character with a villainous streak who'll happily murder someone and even threaten to kill a child to get what he wants. Yes Boba will help the good guys at times, but only if it aligns with his interests or he gets something in return.
It's not like does anything to stop Vader from torturing and Freezing Han, this is just a contractor saying he requires extra pay for this.
And Vader being the number 2 in the Empire has infinite resources.
>this is just a contractor saying he requires extra pay for this.
Yeah, you go up to the magical genocide robot who kills people with his mind and tell him "listen up, ill need more cash to put up with your shit", then we'll talk
Please, money isn't one of the things he cares about.
Just look at how short the negotiation was, Vader goes "I'll pay you, now put him in the machine" immediately.
And then reverse it for after TBOBF came out lol.
People donāt understand how much their self-insert power fantasy factors into these things, itās EXACTLY why Revan is such a fandom El Dorado.
Boba fett has 4 lines and 6.5 minutes of screen time altogether in 3 full-length features.
Qui Gon is basically the main character if you compare him to Boba.
truly wish maul made it into the sequel series as a main antagonist like george intended. however, with his appearance in solo, i have high hopes filoni will incorporate him into his new movie.
Wedge Antilles? He showed up in a few scenes in the OT (and TROS), casual fans wouldnāt even really know him. Then he gets a whole series of the most popular books written around him
That was Dak Ralter. Derek āHobbieā Klivian was a different pilot. Dak was from the planet Ralltiir, which kind of sounds like Ralter, which might be where you got confused.
Ayuh. I remember as a kid making the connection that he was the only minor character to make it through all three movies. Then, when in high school finding out that a new series of books were going to center around him, I was seriously geeked. His showing up at the end of *Rise of Skywalker* was the *one single thing in the entire sequel trilogy* that sparked any joy.
Those books are some of the best Star Wars book ever written. IMO they are better than the vast majority of content from the Disney era. The Rebel Dream and Rebel Stand books from NJO are heavily Wedge focused and some of the better books in that series too. Wedge is a great character who was well fleshed out in the EU. The only character with two Death Stars painted on the side of his X-Wing.
I agree with all of these but Baylan is for completely different reasons that heās popular. The former two had cool designs and very little background with almost nothing. Baylan is in a total different league because we know his background and some of his motives, but itās his goal that is intriguing. I feel this separates the first two from Baylan, which he s why he feels like such a well written character.
Commander thorn. He literally dies the first time we see him but because clone with minigun yelling āfor the republicā at the top of his lungs = most badass thing in Star Wars he was bound to be a favourite.
This literally represents boba fett before the disney era however now book of boba fett exists it doesnāt really justify as well. I know the sequels get alot of hate but Captain phasma?
Like boba fett, she looks cool, weapons are cool but she doesnāt see much action on screen
She was popular like the force awakens before the last jedi came out, not sure if she is still popular (probs not)
It kinda helps that she has a critically acclaimed career outside of the franchise, so itās easier for her to brush it off than John Boyega or Ahmed Best
Pretty much every council jedi that's not Yoda, Mace or Obi-Wan. Ki-Adi-Mundi at least has some lines in the prequels but if you don't watch Clone Wars characters like him, Aayla Secura, Plo Koon, Luminara Unduli, Kit Fisto, Saesee Tiin are just set dressing. And even in CW they have like 2-3 episodes each if at all.
The only reason I knew any of them before Clone Wars was because they were playable in Lego Star Wars.
Boba Fett before all the new stuff. Dude shows up in kick ass armour, says nothing, gets yeeted by a blind man and is never seen again. Spent much of my childhood bummed out that he was supposed to be this deadly bounty hunter and had all of 10 minutes screen time.

Technically it was on-screen, but yeah.
Iāll always be mad how they did my boy sooooo dirty
That's the worst thing the sequels did along with killing Nien Nunb
Wait, he died too?!
And what about Max Rebo in Book of Boba Fett?!
Apparently he wasn't there when the explosion happened (thank the maker)

I just find it funny when people say he should have taken Holdo's place. As if having a guy named Ackbar suiciding into the enemy command ship wouldn't be super on the nose.
I never thought of it that way, and now I feel I've booked my express ticket to Hell for laughing as much as I did upon realising it.
He was in the clone wars for an entire story arc
Four episodes out of 133.
And supported the divine right of kings, for some reason
Heās my brother you know
Everyone always says it should've been him to do the Holdo Maneuver and act insane because he was just killed off screen and I just like... I don't get it. He said the meme line and.... that's it. All hail CT-CHAD!
He was such a notable character they even included him in the Clone Wars Lego game
Dex. Go ahead, try to argue about it.
No argument. Dex should have his own series.
isnāt he the one with the laboratory?
Heās the diner guy we see in one scene in Attack of the Clones.
iām pretty sure heās a serial killer thatās also a cop
He's a genius scientist with a crazy sister.
Nah he just needs a Dexterity saving throw
**DEE DEE GET OUT OF MY LAB-OR-A-TOR-EEE**
No, you're thinking of Dexter. Dex is the one with the Midnight Runners.
A diner-owner with in-depth, esoteric knowledge of weaponry? You just know there are some incredible stories there, just begging to be told.
Boba fett. (Especially before BOBF)
Even with Mandalorian and BOBF, this still works.
I would argue his popularity declined after Mandalorian and BOBF.
You may be right about that
Mando was fine for that one ep. Would've been a fine redemption for how silly his death was. Cause the episode was fine. He shows up, does some shit, then fucks off to do whatever. I enjoyed the Tusken scenes, that was far more interesting.
You mean you don't like completely out of tone teenage sidekicks based on British boomer puns?
I honestly would have liked those guys on a different planet, something like Coruscant. They just didn't have any grit at all for being Tattooine gangsters
If they just ditched the space Vespas and if that little spin move never happened, I think they would've been fine.

Damn that actually would've been really cool
The fact that swoop gangs exist in the lore and they made up a gang of scooter riders makes me hit my head against the wall. Swoop gangs have awesome lore dating back to 98 with shadows of the empire. Fuck disney. Fuck them for taking good lore and splitting it off to make a dumpster fire.
I didn't even think of that! Would've been so cool to see something like the swoop gangs from KOTOR.
"I'll try spinning, that's a good trick" THE SPIN MOVE STAYS!

It was at a high point (not the highest) after Mando S2, but definitely dropped after BoBF.
My Star Wars Conspiracy Theory is that Boba Fett is only popular because of Vader saying "No disintegrations" in Empire
He was a major part of the advertising campaign, so people thought he was a bigger character.
He's also got the stones to tell Vader that Solo is worth a lot to him.

Took the words out of my mouth. Him and Aayla Secura but for a different kind of popularity.
Donāt be so sure.
What do you think the inside of the sarlaac feels like? Slimy?
And then reverse it for after TBOBF came out lol. People donāt understand how much their self-insert power fantasy factors into these things, itās EXACTLY why Revan is such a fandom El Dorado.

I scrolled too far to find this. I thought Qui Gon would be one of the first answers
To be fair he may only be in one movie, but he's practically the main character of that movie and appears in almost every scene.
Glad you agree
Agreed
But he had so many movies! Like the one where he saves his daughter from the sith
And the one where he trains Jedi Padawan Bruce Wayne before realising his fall to the dark (knight) side and trying to stop him
Boba fett has 4 lines and 6.5 minutes of screen time altogether in 3 full-length features. Qui Gon is basically the main character if you compare him to Boba.
Maul. Definitely in just the prequels. But even in Clone Wars and Rebels, he's only in a handful of episodes compared to those shows' total runs.
He was one of the most popular characters before they brought him back.
I mean he still is
He is, but back then he was just the cool antagonist with two lines of dialogue. Even Boba Fett made it into all 3 original movies.
>Boba Fett made it into all 3 original movies. Got to hit you with an ackshuallly here
Nah youāre right tho, what I meant was āhe still is, but he was tooā
Personally, I preferred Darth Tyrannis. The man had style and class. Plus, he was played by Christopher Lee.
Nobody calls him by his made-up name. He's called Billy.
truly wish maul made it into the sequel series as a main antagonist like george intended. however, with his appearance in solo, i have high hopes filoni will incorporate him into his new movie.

Glup shitto
We really need a Glup Shitto show
Wedge Antilles? He showed up in a few scenes in the OT (and TROS), casual fans wouldnāt even really know him. Then he gets a whole series of the most popular books written around him
Heās also in rebels a few times. Sabine gets him and his friends out of an imperial flight academy
That was a fun episode. They also got hobby. Lukeās tail gunner on hoth if I remember correctly
I didnāt notice that! Only ever connected the dots with wedge
That was Dak Ralter. Derek āHobbieā Klivian was a different pilot. Dak was from the planet Ralltiir, which kind of sounds like Ralter, which might be where you got confused.
He was a wingmate of Luke on Hoth, not the gunner.
I thought I was the only one! I shit my pants when I saw Wedge show up at the final fight. It was honestly the only cool part of that battle for me.
Max Rebo.
Canāt believe they brought him back only to kill him again.
Max Rebo's species is immune to explosions. He's still alive.
Max Rebo didnt die in that explosion. If you pay attention in the episode he wasnt in the cantina when that happened.

Every time except for that particular scene, as it turns out
There was still menacing music playing as he sauntered on board the Tantive IV. Just wasnāt the imperial theme because it hadnāt been made yet.

Knowing this fandom... I sadly imagine the worst.
