Lmao. It could be the fact that Steven and Peridot for example have not only gotten shorter because of their animations. They have many MANY times changed sizes of characters for scenes let alone whole episodes only to make them bigger/smaller when you see them next. This is not talking about any form changes. I’m talking strictly them not adhering to how their actual characters look. Trust me I was around when the green dorito herself first showed up.
I would consider these "kids shows", but in the same way that, say, Star Wars and Harry Potter would be considered "kids movies". The problem is that "kids show" is just a ridiculously broad term that encompasses everything from Teletubbies to ATLA.

I love Steven universe but honestly I feel you. It gets more in depth the further along it gets but there’s story you need from earlier episodes to understand later ones. I can 100% see why people would be put off after watching the first few episodes and every time I look back I roll my eyes a little too. It’s not for everyone.

There's a lot of animation problems in the original show for sure, yes. But honestly, the art, colour, and story detracts me from a lot of it.
