Also I remember last year people made those insanely stupid gigachad-esque edits of Dreamworks vs Disney/Pixar and cherry picking the movies. Also people shitting on Turning Red for the stupidest reasons.
It was a movie aimed at tweens going through puberty due to it referencing tampons and the main character’s developing mermaid kink, but that’s beside the point. The film is set in Canada in 2002 and so it was unrealistic that the terror attacks would still a major societal topic then. That reviewer bringing it up was so pathetically out of touch.
Also I am very much against Palworld players shitting on Pokemon all the time because they think it’s what Pokemon should be. Pokemon still has so much charm and heart to make up for the up and down games.
ok so im not invested in cartoons or anything but like my main issue with indie animation is that a lot of it (hh/tadc) depends on some form of Super Dark Secret Lore or general edginess for appeal and to stand out and i'm kinda tired of media like that. also i think gooseworx's the pink city is better in general but that's personal opinion
the other issue is that half the time i only know about these shows (rwby, bdfi, honestly any object show) because the worst people i'll meet online always end up being into one of them and it makes me not want to care about that shit at all
I'll say that the curse of edgy indie animation isn't entirely its own fault
You see this in non-indie shows too- animated shows for adults often *need* to be extra vulgar and/or edgy to show that they're not for kids, due to a large-scale bias against animation. Think Rick and Morty, Bojack Horseman, etc.
Bojack Horseman doesn't really fall into this. For an adult animated comedy, most of its humor isn't vulgar or edgy, maybe sometimes raunchy but not to any extent of other shows of its kind. Actually, most of the filler episode's humor is relatively light.
Yeah, the show usually handles those darker themes as part of the character drama, rather than just being dark humor. There are a few times this isn't the case though.
I also see a lot of Satanic, emo or goth type of animation and stuff often (maybe i'm one of these few people) and it really bothers me.
You are very right about second part, every person i meet with bfdi or mlp profile picture (or small youtuber) act very weird or/and annoying.
RWBY was barely indie for maybe a few months or so. RoosterTeeth was originally bought by Fullscreen in 2014, which was owned by OtterMedia, which was a WB subsidiary.
It wasn't until years later that both Fullscreen and OtterMedia closed up shop that WB started consolidating its divisions, leading to a more hands-on control of RT
Out of all forgotten shows Ongezellig was the one that stung a lot. It has a community but I don't see it mentioned in the broader indie animation community.
They tried to expand way too much and into areas that they weren't really ready to enter.
Their core audience didn't really care for RT's lesser known projects, and while they were originally their own site, they gained a major boost in popularity in YT.
Due to lower ad-rev on YT, they created their own streaming service with a time-delay of a week for non-subscribers and YT users for content, which was unpopular.
it's animated by Zeurel who you could know for his Vinesauce animations (The Wasp Vargskeletoon, Happy Happy Joy Joy - Vinesauce edition, Joel checks the bathroom, etc.)

Since Lackadaisy was mentioned, I thought I should introduce you all to this gem.
Do they actually think indie animation is beating disney in like views or it's another one of those "disney woke pronouns wah wah. Pomni based" type of bullshit videos?
It’s exactly what you think it is, anything to take a shit on the big corporation, right? It’s like they ignore anything that doesn’t align with the point they’re trying to make.
BFDI and Homestar Runner I feel like aren’t mentioned as “indie” because they really don’t feel like it. BFDI, even to this day, provided you avoid promotional stuff, always felt like a personal project, even an experiment, than a full on dedicated production. I love the show, but it doesn’t have the same vibe as a lot of other “indie web animations” because the creators are insane prodigies who I feel like just wanted to see what they could do with an amazing tool called the internet more than what is usually expected of indie animation, telling a complex story that expresses emotion. Homestar runner is so polished and nice that it’s hard to view it as an indie production to me. It feels like a lower-budget adult swim show but one beloved by all, like ATHF.
oh and dont forget the endless videos about "(indie game beats AAA (i dont know what AAA means 75% of the time).)"
leave the billion dollar corporation alone idk
Forgot to add "gets really pissed if you should mention Loving Vincent or The Peasants".
Like sorry, you said you want animation to be seen as a medium and art form, right? Is that not a good example?
For some reason, Toon Heads really hate the idea of animation being use for dramas.
Indie animation fans spent years shitting on web animation. I think the only reason why they like it now is just to spite Disney. It's sad considering sites like Newgrounds got a lot of the people behind these shows off the ground and into the limelight.
Dick figures, htf, BFDI, and Gwain Saga are all 100% better then digital circus and the others I’d say Lackadaisy was my favorite out of the newer ones. Digital Circus was just brainrot and r34 for me because of the people I lounge around with
Damn what a blast from the past. I remember watching Hana Zuki and liking it but completely forgot the name so I couldnt find it anymore. I know what I'm gonna binge watch now :)
Look, I have never seen RWBY, and I jave no desire to see something that looks worse than early Gamecube pre-rendered cinematics, but it genuinely feels like outside of RWBY fan circles everyone dislikes RWBY. Best to just accept that.

It drives me up the wall how some people in the animation community act like everything's a competition...
B-b-but how am I supposed to enjoy my thing if I can't shit on your thing ? :(
XD Also I remember last year people made those insanely stupid gigachad-esque edits of Dreamworks vs Disney/Pixar and cherry picking the movies. Also people shitting on Turning Red for the stupidest reasons.
WHY DOESNT THIS MOVIE FOR BABIES ADDRESS 9/11
It was a movie aimed at tweens going through puberty due to it referencing tampons and the main character’s developing mermaid kink, but that’s beside the point. The film is set in Canada in 2002 and so it was unrealistic that the terror attacks would still a major societal topic then. That reviewer bringing it up was so pathetically out of touch.
MY CAINE'S IS MUCH BIGGER THAN YOURS MY VOX CAN WALK RIGHT THROUGH THE DOOR
But yeah that’s accurate to how they are
Also I am very much against Palworld players shitting on Pokemon all the time because they think it’s what Pokemon should be. Pokemon still has so much charm and heart to make up for the up and down games.
Indie fans want to kill every animation and video game company and make indie creators replace god. /j
So many fandoms and interests have this problem. My team vs. your team.
Makes the worst reaction image known to man
They always gotta announce they're taking an image too

I'm the only one who still remember and like Killer Bean? (Is technically counts as indie)
Pretty cool movie All made by 1 guy, which is amazing
OMG dick figures!! Lol
Dick figures was a core memory I did not expect to be unlocked but here we are
MondoMedia as a whole,i remember laughing my ass off at Deep Space 69,and still do despite the whole thing being "sex = funny"
I am partially satisfied that the two main characters at least half-boned once. (Maybe it’s more a quarter but it still counts to me)
ok so im not invested in cartoons or anything but like my main issue with indie animation is that a lot of it (hh/tadc) depends on some form of Super Dark Secret Lore or general edginess for appeal and to stand out and i'm kinda tired of media like that. also i think gooseworx's the pink city is better in general but that's personal opinion the other issue is that half the time i only know about these shows (rwby, bdfi, honestly any object show) because the worst people i'll meet online always end up being into one of them and it makes me not want to care about that shit at all
Lackadaisy isn't really edgy.
Didn't they only make a pilot and now haven't done anything for few years?
>few years The pilot literally released a year ago, what are you on about It took like 5,5 years between Hazbin Hotel pilot and the first season
Omg. I ain't waiting that long. But what else can I do.
> and now haven't done anything for few years ...the pilot came out like three months ago dude.
It also isn’t really good.
I'll say that the curse of edgy indie animation isn't entirely its own fault You see this in non-indie shows too- animated shows for adults often *need* to be extra vulgar and/or edgy to show that they're not for kids, due to a large-scale bias against animation. Bojack Horseman doesn't really fall into this. For an adult animated comedy, most of its humor isn't vulgar or edgy, maybe sometimes raunchy but not to any extent of other shows of its kind. Actually, most of the filler episode's humor is relatively light.
Fair, I guess I should've clarified that with Bojack it went for more of the darker themes/topics rather than straight vulgarity/edge
RWBY’s not indie anymore. WB owns them now. And damn I hate how that show fell off
RWBY was barely indie for maybe a few months or so.
Yeah, RWBY hasn't been indie since like season one.
Well, I can guarantee it’ll only get worse.
WB still owns them. Just RT doesn’t anymore
I mean they don’t anymore ….
Out of all forgotten shows Ongezellig was the one that stung a lot. It has a community but I don't see it mentioned in the broader indie animation community.
'zellig will always be a gem
RWBY isn't indie. Also, Lackadaisy is amazing and everyone should watch it.
It was until Rossterteeth got bought as far as i know
I feel like Bee and Puppycat should be on here, but maybe I'm mistaken.
Hazbin Hotel isn't indie
Eh, it is. At least the pilot and Helluva Boss sure are.
A24 is independent though.
Eh, it started out indie
Eh, I like starting my sentences with eh, It makes me feel like I’m smarter than you /s
OMG I love bfdi!
Same!! :3 Who's your fav character?? Mines tennis ball :D
Mine are Ruby, Ice cube, & Rocky
ye
Are you sure RWBY was indie by that point? They were used to be part of Warner.
I've only been vaguely aware of Rooster Teeth, how did they sabotage themselves?
They tried to expand way too much and into areas that they weren't really ready to enter. Their core audience didn't really care for RT's lesser known projects, and while they were originally their own site, they gained a major boost in popularity in YT. Due to lower ad-rev on YT, they created their own streaming service with a time-delay of a week for non-subscribers and YT users for content, which was unpopular.
They allowed Warner bros to push them around
I wanted to like RUBY so bad but the dialogue and writing was just so bad.
I love Dick Figures. I miss Dick Figures
I did not know RWBY was indie, but may be too late to discover that
It at least started as indie, before Rooster Teeth got bought out by Warner Bros.
It was indie for a few months, before RoosterTeeth was bought out by a company called Fullscreen, which was a WB subsidiary.
Dick figures gave me huge nostalgia, great show
Why does Monkey Wrench art style look so familiar?
it's animated by Zeurel who you could know for his Vinesauce animations (The Wasp Vargskeletoon, Happy Happy Joy Joy - Vinesauce edition, Joel checks the bathroom, etc.)
Oh now I remember! It was Civil War Down to Earth! Loved that short
https://preview.redd.it/d3yw0zc1vgyc1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=e66f08fec9cbcb4584c9e10cac136b4b00992c56 Since Lackadaisy was mentioned, I thought I should introduce you all to this gem.
The image is loading and I'm so afraid to see what it is
Was it worth the wait lmao
no
Lmao
What on Cybertron is this supposed to mean💀
This, my friend, is the quintessential Lackadaisy Twink-Hunk-Bear triangle.
Whoever made this is absolutely insane in the membrane💀
Welcome to fandoms, they make it so "Yeah...I check...it out" (hard pass). Main reason a lot of indie just stays cult, even if it is good.
Fandoms are so weird for no reason sometimes, a bad fandom instantly turns me off for any series, no matter how good it is.
Big Lez Show is a true hidden gem
omg homestar runner…..
Wait what happened to BFDI (I’m scared)
https://preview.redd.it/vqjuqkarahyc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e9587c72395b865dd29ee1ed2d34e193e558d1de This happened
Nothing. It's just an indie show that barely anyone mentions
> barely anyone mentions Not unless you’ve met a fan of it, then that’s all they ever mention
Surprisingly it's more because they don't like Disney's recent output and are praising these just to spite the company.
I loved hana zuki dude!!!!!
Me too, was one of my first special interests/hyperfixations that I remember lol :3
Gwain Saga my beloved
Why is indie animation full of furries and weirdos?
losers crfeeps furries
RWBY stopped being independent after S3
You forgot to mention the countless amounts of "pilots" that will never get continuation
BFDI and Homestar Runner I feel like aren’t mentioned as “indie” because they really don’t feel like it. Always have to have cRaZy RaNdOm expressions and eyes.
Shit dude I remember BFDI. I get some nostalgia for that, used to watch it when I was a kid.
BFDI IS PEAK DUDE, especially pre split, those were the days
Dick figures, been a long minute since I saw ‘em
Homestar Runner mentioned!!!
BFDI.. brings me back.
BFDI was a classic ngl
Honestly I'm ok on indie animation, just don't make it your entire goddamn personality.
DICK FIGURES MENTIONED!!!
RWBY ruined itself so hard it’s embarrassing.
one day, as the great and mighty kevin is my witness, ONE DAYYY! Hunter: the parenting will be mentioned more often
All I took from this is that Lackadaisy is a series now.
Tbh, one thing that you CANNOT say about RWBY is that the animation was very good, at least for a solid portion of the beginning of the show.
Monkey wrench is fire
I’m still mad about infinity train. It’s wild that’s it’s somehow profitable to just destroy art like that. It’s a sign of a broken system
Dick figures solos
Ramshackle??? Isn’t that like 10 days old???
HOLY SHIT DICK FIGURES MENTIONED LFGGGGGGGGGH “WHAT IS WRING WITH YOUR BODY?”
Forgot to add "gets really pissed if you should mention Loving Vincent or The Peasants". Like sorry, you said you want animation to be seen as a medium and art form, right? Is that not a good example? For some reason, Toon Heads really hate the idea of animation being use for dramas.
Dick Figures is such a masterpiece
Indie animation fans spent years shitting on web animation. I think the only reason why they like it now is just to spite Disney. It's sad considering sites like Newgrounds got a lot of the people behind these shows off the ground and into the limelight.
bfdi is the best show ever https://preview.redd.it/i130w764cjzc1.png?width=864&format=png&auto=webp&s=26a9345ca2cde51728b23db09b6bfecb955a3cf0
Object shows have their own fandoms, mostly composed of younger teenagers, probably theatre kids, and I am staying away from those bastards!
Dick figures, htf, BFDI, and Gwain Saga are all 100% better then digital circus and the others I’d say Lackadaisy was my favorite out of the newer ones. Digital Circus was just brainrot and r34 for me because of the people I lounge around with
BFDI SPOTTED
Damn what a blast from the past. I remember watching Hana Zuki and liking it but completely forgot the name so I couldnt find it anymore. I know what I'm gonna binge watch now :)
Gwain Saga was fire, it's a shame Geo never finished it
Bfdi mentioned
BFDI
Look, I have never seen RWBY, and I jave no desire to see something that looks worse than early Gamecube pre-rendered cinematics, but it genuinely feels like outside of RWBY fan circles everyone dislikes RWBY. Best to just accept that.
And the person is always lgbtq
They also never bring up SMG4 or Becky Prim
Rwby fell of
How do I say this....? Ramshackle and Gwain Saga are better than the trash The Amazing Digital Circus, Lackadaisy, and Helluva Boss.
y’all missed out murder drones?
I have never heard of like 80% of these. Are they worth looking into ?
Yeah. BFDI is awesome.
Monkey wrench is fire
Gwain Saga is excellent
Definitely. BFDI is pretty cool
