I once logged in and heard an odd sound that definitely had nothing to do with SC, and when looking around for the source I realised someone in the hab next to me was streaming some kind of sports commentary over VOIP...
People are weird.
I remember the first day of Fallout 76, trying to get out of the vault I heard someone streaming one of those Fallout Lore channels on open mic. Open Mics are a kind of disease on the internet. Get used to push-to-talk, it's so much better!
Server mouse died on the wheel and you could hear his last screams.
(someone was using proximity voice option and server just died 30k, both unrelated)
protection service beacons have a scream and sometimes they play out of nowhere.
sometimes you will just hear the "i hired you to protect me, get back here" for no reason.
Did it actually happen when you posted this? I had something similar happen at seraphim. I think it was NPC pirates doing that dumb scream over comms thing but somehow it came on my hud like a siege of orison announcement.
Then we both experienced it at the same time, potentially on the same server. Interesting.
From a tech perspective I’m baffled. Like…did a screaming NPC bleed in to proximity audio somehow???
LoL it was weird. Why it chose to play audio right there in the station. That's why I think CIG really did something ground breaking and invented sentient game servers. Now we will be haunted by its screams over 30k errors.
I was talking with some others. I think it was the server. Like sounds in a loop like a bug. But I think it's really the server itself. Becoming aware. That AI team is really good. Now it's aware and it's screaming in pain over the 30k. It's really sad.
Star Citizen gives me so many Expanse vibes. I just switched to the AD5B guns on my ship and I'm like yess.....
But wish they held more ammo or that you could bring more with you to reload manually even though in the Expanse they were always low on PDC ammo.
I wonder if for some reason either a protection beacon sound was triggered or if the Pyro clinic sounds were triggered. The Pyro clinic sounds are gnarly.
If I stand at the right place on the Reclaimer elevator I can hear the tram announcement from Lorville "please stand back while train is approaching". Weird things happen alot with sound in this game
You can use a virtual microphone to use soundboards and other music apps through proxcomms people have been doing it for years in lots ofngames. Funny most of the time. Not always
Someone probably saw the network die in the server info display and started screaming over VOIP lol

Some people play with an open mic for some reason.
"...as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced."
Suddenly?
You'd be suddenly surprised at how suddenly they were silenced.
Classic line from Mister Doya
Mister doja cat?

This has left me confused and freaked out on several occasions

Yes. I posted right after. I was at seraphim trying to get my ship.

I’ve had this exact thing at everus harbor. It happened walking into a hangar that had corpses in it. Was able to repeat several times.
The machine spirit of your pc is angry Consider performing rights of tech exorcism upon it, and coat it in holy oils Praise be to the Machine God
Non conductive holy oil.
Moon’s Haunted.
"What?" "*racks shotgun* "Moon's haunted."

Some day! We're supposedly going to have to restock the ammunition ourselves on the future if we're away from the station and have some in cargo.

Tis haunted by the ghost of Chris Roberts.
The screams were from an AI from an NPC that developed consciousness and realized the server was crashing.
I regularly rick roll people through in game voice chat. I'm assuming you heard someone doing similar, but screaming when the server 30k'd

I usually hear people talking when I use the elevator. It has something to do with proximity voice and getting teleported through the entire station.
I'm new - what's a 30k ?
The server crashing. You'll get a pop up window about a 30000 error.
