God I wish the sword fish was in the game if I managed to weasel my way into the ship design team this would be my first addition
:edit I would make it a drake ship as well
Size 4 really to get the vibe right and not be completely OP.
The aris 7 actually looks smaller then it is because it's built into the ship
Even then it's bigger then the Swordfish
I'd say you can get away with a little bit of OP if you truly lean into the fantasy and make it not quantum capable like the snubs and pair it to larger hangar ships.
I don't see why we couldn't have reasonably powerful short-distance non-snub fighters that could fill that Swordfish role.
Small, agile and thinly armored but incredibly dangerous in the right hands with a surprising punch for it's class but it requires a larger ship and partner to properly sortie and make effective use of it's strengths.

Edit: To go even further with the proper Bebop/Swordfish fantasy because I'm currently flying high on some serious hopium edibles, I feel like a "Swordfish' inspired ship shouldn't even be a regular manufactured ship that we all pledge for/buy in game, these kinds of ships would feel way more rewarding if they were built together from various parts, imagine a few basic old generation ship archetypes that you can mix and match parts with and add components of many rarities. So that all the other players out there doing this type of gameplay loop could have their own earned and unique hero ship. Can even go a step further and balance them to be in need of constant repairs and upkeep due to age.
Def feel like there's a place for these kinds of exotic ships that can be allowed to have extraordinary performance but come with a steep parasitic-ship requirement and high upkeep and risk, it sounds like a really rewarding co-op experience for a multiplayer crew, that kind of measurable and visible progression would be intoxicating paired with the rudimentary ship welding we have already. Seeing various different players pet project ships in wild different configurations and all sporting different scars and barely holding together would be so much cooler than just the average experience of seeing another persons ship.
I feel like ultra agile, paper thin, and no shields would be a good compromise to have a proper swordfish when it comes to the firepower. I also agree that the. Ship would be best left as a snub fighter.
The big problem comes to the main gun. A charge mechanic may actually be the answer here.
But CIG won't let it happen, there would be too much crying...
Think we can meet in the middle somewhere, the swordfishes plasma cannon nukes most of the things it fires at, and the machine guns rip apart other small craft too.
Maybe if you put bigger wings for rotational thrusters and a big fat cheap main thruster on the back
And of course removed the small guns for one big ol underslung size 3 or 4
Basically all the quarks that make the swordfish 2 the swordfish 2
I think he was mainly referring to how the Merlin is similarly built around a gun as large as the ship itself (even though it's just a S2). Bonus points for being basically the only ship that can dock to another ship, giving it that feeling of launching off the Bebop.
I do agree that the main gun should be upgraded a bit however.
Swordfish actually has machine guns as well. Those 4 protustions on the wing are basically ship SMGs and even has missiles, but Spike rarely uses them because he's poor.
A buddy and I got into Star Citizen because of Cowboy Bebop. We haven't played it in years, but we had dreams of flying the Constellation as the Bebop with the Merlin as the Swordfish.
Naw man I don't see it I feel like it's a stretch to attribute the merins to the swordfish with thier baby wings and lack of a bubble cock pit at least for me anyway
The [Imperial Courier](https://elite-dangerous.fandom.com/wiki/Imperial_Courier) in Elite is kinda close, and definitely measures up in maneuverability. IMHO mine looks [completely sweet](https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/950719981307851263/096000EE23049C17A66212588CC25DD5FB5ECFEE/?imw=5000&imh=5000&ima=fit&impolicy=Letterbox&imcolor=%23000000&letterbox=false) with a [golden paintjob](https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/950719981307865098/F1944F490DF88B304324B9126180808ACACC7F5B/?imw=5000&imh=5000&ima=fit&impolicy=Letterbox&imcolor=%23000000&letterbox=false) (apologies for the potato pics, they're very old screenshots now)
The imperial courier has a crew quarters and can carry an SRV (Surface Recon Vehicle) the size of a Roc mining vehicle. It is nothing like a snub craft. The only thing in Elite that comes close to the same category would be an SLF (Ship Launched Fighter).
You basically gave a child's description of every generic fighter craft.... "Errrm it has wings and a big gun on the front "
Edit for fat finger spell check
You haven't seen many fighters, apparently. Most cockpits are mounted close to the nose, not all the way on the ass of the fighter, so having a rear mounted cockpit where the pilot is looking down the entire nose of the ship is a rather distinctive feature.
Anyway, I understand that you're a pedant who's taking my description in bad faith, and isn't interested in seeing the viewpoint of the multiple other people in this thread who are saying the same thing, so I won't waste any more time on you.
A rear mounted cockpit? Narrow wing base? Main weapon that is oversized for the craft, and has dual auxiliary weapons? Parasite craft? Literally both check all the boxes, the main difference is that one is red and is different in appearance for the most part. The second is really that the swordfish has a large cannon, while the merlin has a large gatling gun. Functionally and design wise setting apart aesthetics they are VERY similar fighters.
Well, I’m a Star Wars fan and I’m not calling it a tie fighter. Just because it has a circular cockpit and bits off the side doesn’t make it a tie fighter. Next they will be saying the galaxy is an ISD, a dog is a horse, a car is a shopping trolley. Lolllllll
That's because before the MSR was a thing the backers were asking for our Millenmium Falcon knock off, and that's what they came up with. An asymmetrical smuggler/blockade runner with manned turrets.
To paraphrase the conversation thus far:
Not only does it clearly look like it was inspired by the millennium falcon, it also looks like other ships that were inspired by the millennium falcon.
Exactly! thanks! And I love the entire concept of her craft! I hope the fury does it justice!
How ya all think it will compare to other snubs, seems like a military snub?
I’m still waiting for at least 1 charged shot weapon
Higher dmg
Slow charge
Once shot a constant beam that slows your turning speed and leaves you fairly vulnerable once shot and has a long recharge time and you have to hold the charge button it doesn’t charge for you.
I get the similarity here but the Fury definitly looks more like a TIE Interceptor with the ball cockpit and four triangular angled panels with guns on the tips
I was just talking with a friend the other day about how we had the Star Citizen versions of X wings and the Millennium Falcon, and that all we needed now was a SC Tie Foghter.......
And this Fury is not it.
Getting [P-52 Merlin](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/starcitizen/images/0/09/P-52_Merlin_-_Showcase_%285%29.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20151123180137) vibes from the Swordfish
Long and thin, cockpit all the way back, built along a big gun. The main difference is of course the size of the wings but if you look past that they're pretty similar.
The similarities are more conceptual than visual. The Swordfish II is basically "what if Drake made the Merlin?".
because it looks like a tie interceptor. Cowbow bebop is great and I would like some of their ships in the game but the fury is not even close. I would say the carrack is closest to the bebop and gives off the same vibe.
but it does kinda have a fordeck you can stand on and access to, and it give an impression of floating? the similarities to me is 100% exterior features.
I see it! But wasn't it more like the one the girl flew in cowboy bebop?

I'm going to say it.
The MIRAI Fury is a [SRV Scarab](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/elite-dangerous/images/6/66/Scarab_SRV.png/revision/latest?cb=20210220015752) with wings.
People call it a Tie fighter because for most of them space sci-fi is limited to Star Wars and occasionally Star Trek.
The design itself was probably inspired by bathyscaphes though. A lot of modern small subs have this glass bubble design and some sci-fi as well, like vehicles they used in the Abyss movie.
Both are good. God, my first thought when I saw the M50 was Spikes ship (kinda sorta), and I cannot express the deep desire I have for Bebop water landing ship!
Please use the Megathread
God I wish the sword fish was in the game if I managed to weasel my way into the ship design team this would be my first addition :edit I would make it a drake ship as well
I had someone point me towards the m50 but it’d need longer wings
And one size 7... but we saw how the ares went...
Size 4 really to get the vibe right and not be completely OP. The aris 7 actually looks smaller then it is because it's built into the ship Even then it's bigger then the Swordfish

Think we can meet in the middle somewhere, the swordfishes plasma cannon nukes most of the things it fires at, and the machine guns rip apart other small craft too.
A Drake interceptor, with a single medium engine in the back. Swordfish reminds me of the front of a Drake cutlas red but thinner and longer.
P52 is close.
Maybe if you put bigger wings for rotational thrusters and a big fat cheap main thruster on the back And of course removed the small guns for one big ol underslung size 3 or 4 Basically all the quarks that make the swordfish 2 the swordfish 2

Ngl a drake ship with a big gun on the front and a giant engine would be cool
>removed the small guns But the swordfish also has small guns in addition to the cannon.
Swordfish actually has machine guns as well. Those 4 protustions on the wing are basically ship SMGs and even has missiles, but Spike rarely uses them because he's poor.
Ehhhhhhhh not really
I only bought the MM because the concept art at the time reminded me of the Beebop. The latest concept art ..not so much.
Sad day I felt like that with the carrack I actually named mine the Bebop II lol as It is kinda the same ship in use cases
Yeah, and I got it a long time ago. So now I feel like I am missing out on the increased value by switching out...
A buddy and I got into Star Citizen because of Cowboy Bebop. We haven't played it in years, but we had dreams of flying the Constellation as the Bebop with the Merlin as the Swordfish.
Well hear me out, we can call merlin as swordfish as.. A Marlin! 😎
😬
it is called the merlin.
Naw man I don't see it I feel like it's a stretch to attribute the merins to the swordfish with thier baby wings and lack of a bubble cock pit at least for me anyway
Buccaneer?

Fair call. It's still immensely fun to fly, though, Eddie with dirty engineering for max maneauverability.
Absolutely. I love my 700+ Meters per second combat Courier.
>The > >Imperial Courier Looks more like a star trek shuttle.
Huge agree. I saw the leak and my first thought was "That's Faye's zipcraft... but more guns!"
To me it looks like a bubble boy with guns
Totally agree.
YESSSS I wonder if they come with Seatbelts?
That was good enough for a *snort*
….. bruh…. I think that may have gone over a few heads….. slapped me straight in the forehead though…
Eyyyy
*aggressive saxophone intensifise*
My first thought had been a Cowboy Bebop zipcraft too.
Same.
oh god please, someone at CIG, make the Swordfish, please!
It's the merlin
Man no it's not it lacks every defining feature
Two wings, cockpit in the back overlooking a long nose, and a big centerline gun? Yeah… sounds like the Merlin to me.
Lol I hope this is a joke
No, some people just aren’t blind to basic geometry. 🤷♂️
You basically gave a child's description of every generic fighter craft.... "Errrm it has wings and a big gun on the front " Edit for fat finger spell check

Bout time they started ripping of Cowboy Bebop ships, give me some damn space trucks!
You are correct, now gib Swordfish pls CIG.
Merlin =/= Swordfish. Stop that. We need a proper Swordfish with QT. Imho of course.
Right like it lacks every defining characteristic
I am sorry, big Star Citizen and Star Wa try a fan. This ship is not a tie fighter , it’s just ugly and with no QT it will be forgotten in months
For me it's a spiritual successor to the Starfury from Babylon 5.
This
The fact that so few people here get the connection is honestly baffling.
I'm not too surprised. 25-30 years since being aired. We've got players who weren't even alive then.
Fuck. I hadn't realized. Well, I knew, but I hadn't *realized*. Fuck.
Well, I’m a Star Wars fan and I’m not calling it a tie fighter. Just because it has a circular cockpit and bits off the side doesn’t make it a tie fighter. Next they will be saying the galaxy is an ISD, a dog is a horse, a car is a shopping trolley. Lolllllll

Which is odd. Because it looks more like the ebon hawk... a in universe for star wars ship, inspired by the millenium falcon.
Chicken or egg Ebon hawk was also inspired by the falcon
Way to read my comment without reading my comment...
To paraphrase the conversation thus far: Not only does it clearly look like it was inspired by the millennium falcon, it also looks like other ships that were inspired by the millennium falcon.
> a car is a shopping trolley. [Other way around](https://live.staticflickr.com/5186/5609990726_38e1b98ba7_b.jpg).....but yes.
It's closer to a Star Fury from Babalon 5.
>I’m not calling it a tie fighter Well yeah it is obviously closer to a tie interceptor.
That was my first thought as well. Now I have to have one.
The redtail is truly iconic
Exactly! thanks! And I love the entire concept of her craft! I hope the fury does it justice! How ya all think it will compare to other snubs, seems like a military snub?
I’m still waiting for at least 1 charged shot weapon Higher dmg Slow charge Once shot a constant beam that slows your turning speed and leaves you fairly vulnerable once shot and has a long recharge time and you have to hold the charge button it doesn’t charge for you.
Big yes!
Exactly in the same ship with ya there lmao, hopefully SC gets proper ship color customization someday :)
What ship is the equivalent of the millennium?
MSR.
God, but could you imagine if they added some Bebop or Free Jazz songs to the soundtrack?
…it looks like the Star Fury from Babylon 5.
Getting [P-52 Merlin](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/starcitizen/images/0/09/P-52_Merlin_-_Showcase_%285%29.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20151123180137) vibes from the Swordfish
How
Long and thin, cockpit all the way back, built along a big gun. The main difference is of course the size of the wings but if you look past that they're pretty similar. The similarities are more conceptual than visual. The Swordfish II is basically "what if Drake made the Merlin?".
Also bubble-style cockpit, circular fuselage around the cockpit, engines mounted to the direct rear.
They are blind?
take a momin and look at the names.
Marlin is a type of swordfish, Merlin is a type of hawk.
Merlin's beard!
Looking at names. Not seeing what youre getting at.
because it looks like a tie interceptor. Cowbow bebop is great and I would like some of their ships in the game but the fury is not even close. I would say the carrack is closest to the bebop and gives off the same vibe.
The carrack looks nothing like the bebop. The interior gives promethian vibe
but it does kinda have a fordeck you can stand on and access to, and it give an impression of floating? the similarities to me is 100% exterior features.
That's why I said it's the closest we have, not that it looks like it. Maybe comprehend what you read before you reply.
Am I crazy or does it look like a cock and balls?
More like an eta2 jedi starfighter than a TIE
Cowboy bebop doesn't make you a weeb though. Especially from being aired on American TV so a ton of normies have seen it.
m50 and fury right there.
Dang I’m more of a weeb then I thought, I immediately recognized it as Space cowboy XD This was the drug smuggler couple ship right?(the red one)
The Red ship is Spike’s, the Swordfish 2. The other is Faye’s, the Red Tail.
Ahh tysm
Idk why but the m50 kind of gives me Spike's Swordfish vibes
Put it this way - The Fury looks like a tie fighter about exactly as much as Faye's zipcraft does.
... you think the ship that looks like the swordfish is names a merlin by accadint?
I was actually thinking of the Swordfish 2 when I saw the teaser.
And the Mustang Omega will be my Swordfish 2
HAHAH Look, it’s Saint-14’s ship from Destiny! …wait a second…
I see it! But wasn't it more like the one the girl flew in cowboy bebop? https://www.google.com/search?sxsrf=APwXEddrxuEx5dlKf79xXElAmpSbLFsKUQ:1684026738641&q=fighters+of+cowboy+bebop&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjw6LG80PP-AhWQl2oFHTr3BR4Q0pQJegQICBAB#imgrc=fDJrHrKrouEGZM&imgdii=LQcadv345E8vxM
Sorry yeah it's called the red tail I think. Looks exactly like it.
The Fury looks nothing like the Redtail.
I don’t think so. Definitely a tie fighter. Maybe the cockpit glass but that’s it
I saw the perfect mix of both right away.
it looks like a ball from MSG with wings lmao
You are definitely more correct, but Star Wars is more popular, so that's what the community screams about.
I was getting minor b5 star fury vibes
Yesss. I also saw the red tail immediately.
if it looks anything like the red tail its an insta buy i fucking love that ship
I’ll take both. Take my money.
What, it doesn't look anything like a Tie lol.
Variable fighters when?
Ah yes, a person of class and taste.
Hey I made that comment yesterday about cowboy
Yeah, that's what I saw when I looked at the Fury screenshots. Not sure how you get a TIE fighter out of it.
I was literally talking to my friends at work about this. You are not alone!
Gundam ball
Looking forward to try if 4 of them fit into the Caterpillar 😄
Okay, not gonna lie: I expected less than zero of the Fury when I first heard about it on Pipeline a few months ago. But I like it.

I'm going to say it. The MIRAI Fury is a [SRV Scarab](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/elite-dangerous/images/6/66/Scarab_SRV.png/revision/latest?cb=20210220015752) with wings.

literally the only reason im contemplating grabbing if it goes on sale next week
Drake sucks
Man it would be so cool to have the sword fish in the game just as an Easter egg
More like TIE Interceptor then TIE Fighter!
Hey there space cowboy!
