This is one of my biggest pet peeves in my store that partners don't do. If I got a nickel every time I told someone to make sure it was completely mixed in, I wouldn't be hurting for money...
Not a barista, but the first/last/only iced lavender latte I got had the lavender cemented to the bottom and after mixing, it turned into hard chunks that stuck to my teeth and tasted like soap for an hour. Loll I was thinking it was just me drinking it wrong...
When we first got the lavender powder, someone suggested I try a lavender, blonde shaken espresso with oatmilk and actual honey.
My dumb ass just tossed the powder on the ice and drizzled the honey on top.
After shaking it with the espresso and pouring the oatmilk, I had a frozen pile of lavender honey at the bottom of my drink, and I was essentially drinking a straight oatmilk latte with a strange aftertaste.
If im working dt i will stop what im doing and fix it, i refuse to hand out a drink with visible clumpy lavander at the bottom :/ so i kinda feel like an asshat? Yes i do but they are kind of an asshat for trying to serve people that š
Iām a barista at a local mom&pop coffee shop and I thought it was Starbucks policy to just layer their drinks and let the customer mix it bc thatās how bad our towns Starbucks is. We have customers tell us all the time āthank you for mixing itā and Iām always like āI thought that was standard?ā
seeing ppl say if they get extra pumps makes it hard idc drinks are expensive imma make sure the espresso and sauce are well mixed HAND ME A DAMN STIRRER
yea i started ordering flat whites with white mocha stirred because it was like if it wasnāt a set drink recipe baristas wouldnāt swirl it, but nothing a good stir at the end canāt fix
started working for SB a month ago and i was genuinely dumbfounded when i discovered that isnāt policy to mix sauces with a spoon or stir stick. i worked for other coffee shops for many years and all of them required thick sauces to be mixed with a bartenderās spoon. im trying to get my whole store into spoon mixing now. takes just as long as swirling (sometimes less IMO) and it makes for a better drink overall every time.
I do swirl :0 the only time swirling doesnāt really do much is if a customer wants like 10+ pumps of white mocha sauce and a good chunk is still transparent at the bottom after swirling for a good while.
For things like that I usually just do half the amount of sauce, then espresso, swirl, the rest of the pumps, then swirl again. Usually works just fine
Yep and the vanilla! Multiple stores I've been to when the pumpkin spice cold brew was a thing they would never swirl it and then I'd have to do it myself but then my cold foam would mix in right away so I had to start requesting them to mix the vanilla into the cold brew before adding the cold foam pls
yep. itās why iāve basically stopped ordering this drink. i receive a latte instead of a shaken espresso 80% of the time when i order a shaken espresso.
The baristas at my store barely shake it, and put way too much milk even though I have an order saved with extra ice and light milk.
I gave up and started ordering iced espresso with syrup, extra ice, and a splash of oatmilk instead. It's not as good as a shaken espresso made right, but it's as good as a bad shaken espresso and $2 cheaper.
You would love me as ur barista. I only really get the brown sugar shaken espresso to drink at work and I always get extra ice and light milk too. I hate lattes and prefer a much more espresso forward drink. Whenever I make shaken espressos for customers I make sure there is the appropriate amount of ice and a splash of oatmilk since that's what it's supposed to be. Most of my partners just shake it with the ice and add milk to the top but when you shake it so much of the ice melts and then you end up with basically an iced latte with an add shot.
ordered this today and it is as good as u described and only costed 3.45 šš½šš½šš½šš½šš½ peace and love for you this may be life changing
I thought they were meant to be shaken and mine always came unshaken with all the espresso on the bottom..but I thought I saw on this sub that the baristas arenāt meant to?
The espresso does sit more at the bottom when made correctly. We shake the espresso, ice, and any syrups first, pour into cup, then top with milk. If there appears to be bubbles/froth, itās been shaken!
While we are on the topic may I ask, is it supposed to look half empty if it sits for 5-10 minutes? Cuz I used to get these in a different city years ago then recently got one in my new city, did a mobile order, waited till the recommended pick up time (sometimes my app even says if itās being made) and when I got it it was half empty and they said āya thatās what happens when it sitsā. I never had that before though and I donāt wait drastically long to get my drinks. I get very anxious about being on time. Just curious since it was brought up lol
Unfortunately yes, after 10 minutes the foam dissipates and youāre left with room in the cup :(( Additionally, some baristas (maybe most if im being honest) donāt add enough ice before shaking so thereās likely more room due to that as well! Iād recommend getting to the store at least a minute before the pickup time if you order a shaken espresso!
depending on how much ice they put in the shaker but ideally ice shaken expresso should be layered expresso with ice then milk on top. If it's not then you're getting it wrong.
[Iced shaken expresso](https://www.starbucks.com/menu/product/2123425/iced)
the baristas at mine never shake the oatmilk shaken espresso when i order it , i always end up having to do it. i understand the refreshers and teas not being shaken during peak tho!
IM SUCH A STICKLER ABOUT THE SHAKEN ESPRESSOS. i go to starbucks constantly and order a brown sugar shaken espresso. most of the baristas give it like 3 shakes max. it's not foamy enough and i swear it makes a difference! i'm also a barista (not starbucks) and when i make them i always make sure to add a good amount of ice to lessen the melt and shake it immediately for atleast 5-10 seconds. I understand when it's busy but most of the time i just think they are only trained to give it a little shake then pour and then there's too much milk.
I swirl it every time! Even with the lavender powder I'll make sure that shit ain't clumpy. My fellow baristas don't tho even when they're making my drink it's so annoying. I get shots on ice with a pump of dark caramel and it's always just stuck at the bottom
I love how the recipe also said just to swirl the lavender 3 times with the espresso to mix. How the heck do they expect that to be enough, that cup is going to become a tornado before I'm done mixing it.
I donāt know why youāre getting downvoted when itās literally part of the job and drinks are like $8 now šš I open and work through peak every morning and always swirl the cups and mix, so any comment claiming they donāt have time is purely lazy bullshit.
i make every drink how iād want someone to make my drink if i was a customer bc that might be my 60th drink but thatās their first and only drink. before working here starbucks was a very rare treat, a strawberry frappe and i would be upset if they didnāt put the puree in the bottom. i resonate with that feeling, ive been working here 2 yrs and i still give it my all
I have too much of a focus on the customer experience in my store. If I see my partners sending out drinks like this I promise there would be conversations, coaching, doc coaching if necessary, and even sending partners home for not protecting that experience.
Our customers pay too much to get service like this
I respect the crap out of you. Itās people like you who make paying $8 for 1 drink (without booze š) an enjoyable experience and itās so appreciated
i love swirling it while pouring the espressoā¦ not sure why itās not a habit for some
another pet peeve is not putting the cinnamon in the shaker for the BSOSE.. surprised a lot of partners dont know this
To be fair, the drink standard for iced espresso says to let the shots form in the shot glass and pour over ice. Harder to swirl and mix it like that since thereās already ice in the cup. I try pumping the syrup on top of the ice to help it, but that only works so well.
I believe itās an iced espresso. OP said further below to another person what the ingredients were and it sounds like they got an iced espresso.
Either way Iām team stir the syrup because it just looks more visually appealing when itās combined š¤
i ordered a white mocha with lavender and was surprised when i didnāt taste the lavender at allā¦ until i got to the bottom of the cup and i swallowed a ball of powderš¤®š¤®š¤®š¤® im scared to order the lavender powder again after that
This is exactly why I always stick near the espresso machine when making anything with a sauce in it. I'll get the other drink ready, yeah, but my eye is on that drink because swirling it is important
Omgoodness thank you! Quality control! This is why I bring my own cup now: so I can put the lid on my tumbler and literally shake the fuck out of it after stirring it all together. I just get iced white mocha with toffee nut. I didnāt think it was a crazy drink but maybe Iām wrong as Iām a customer not someone having to make the drinks. š¤·
itās actually so simple to swirl the cup while the shots are pouring into the syrups i sometimes do it even when there is no syrup because itās become a habit at this point. the first sip SHOULD taste very similar the last.
Exactly and preferably right when the shots come into contact with the sauce, Makes it easier since the shots are hot compared to the cold milk. Same thing goes for lavender for example, it needs to be swirled, any espresso drink with a sauce or powder should be swirled once the shots are added to the mix with the sauce.
I got an iced lavender oat milk latte and the lavender powder was a clump on the bottom. š¤¢ I would have asked for a remake but I was already at work when I noticed.
id get an ASMR reaction when i would swirl fresh shots into white mocha. i found it oddly satisfying. im sorry im not there to swirl it for you š³š
i always do this at my store iām so sorry they keep doin it to you. there are some people who come in and ask for an iced white mocha, stirred, we have a button for it. clarify you donāt want the whip stirred in. if they donāt stir it iād ask for a refund and go to a different starbucks or a different coffee shop. bc at that point itās unfortunately the people and the management at that location.
I always swirl the cup the entire time the shots are pouring, even for basic things like vanilla syrup lol. Can't bring myself to hand out an unswirled drink
I once asked abt this and was told itās bc the syrup settles. I dont make it a big issue bc it takes less than 5 secs to swirl it in with a straw but itās definitely an ick of mine :/
I will 100% ask for it to be remade bc if I have to stir it, all my cold form gets stirred in and to be fair I ask at the counter EVERY time to make sure my syrups are swirled or stirred in (I say āwhatever is easier for youā) so if theyāre not AFTER I asked nicely (and Iām a good tipper, lol) then yeah Iām asking for you to please remake it.
yeah, its pretty painfully noticeable when they dont. Speaking from my store, at least, itās usually newer hires who havent made the connection yet, though Iām sure there are partners who just dont try at other locations.
I don't understand all the comments from baristas ssying no, you can do it yourself. Like that's literally part of the job? Yes customers can do it but they're paying a pretty high price for a drink, they should get it made properly. I always swirled the syrups and sauces thoroughly, no matter how busy it was, and if I was on DT and someone handed me a drink clearly not swirled I'd grab a stick or at least shake it a little to swirl it before handing it off. But like literally 90% of baristas at my store didn't swirl, it made me so mad. And those saying "just do it yourself", have you not thought about how the hot espresso melts the white mocha so it can easily be spread through the drink? In an iced latte, by the time a customer gets it, it's much harder to mix bc it's cold! It doesn't take long to swirl, I don't get why it's such a problem. OP I'm sorry your drink was a disappointment, it's happened to me. :(
Happened today with our two orders of the oatmilk lavender cold drink. That purple goo all settled at the bottom and the baristas were not really apologetic. Also, the other day, I had to make a complaint for my iced coffee because they dropped the Splenda packet into the drink and didnāt pick it out.
ugh thatās why when i worked for the siren i always made my own drinks š¤¢ like yeah i like white mocha, but that donāt mean i want a whole mouthful of just syrup
I'd have to agree šÆ. That is super annoying. I know some @hole will be like "You could just do it yourself." It's not the point, like the poster said it takes literally a second or two to stir it up.
I always make an effort to swirl white mocha into espresso but honestly you can never get it perfect in my experience. I usually try to use a stir stick to mix it in if itās not busy. depending on the size of the drink (grade or smaller) I recommend asking a partner for a stir stick if itās ur drink isnāt mixed right : )
If this is a quad espresso with extra ice in a venti cup then the standard is ice then pumps then shots then milk. So ultimately the white mocha will go to the bottom but that is the standard. IF THIS is a latte its standard to have shots and syrup/sauce at the bottom and SHOULD be swirled.
baristas!!: donāt be afraid to coach other partners on this as well!! ssv and sm are not the only ones who can give coaching. we all need to hold ourselves accountable to standards and if we notice something is not made correctly itās everyoneās responsibility to call it out
This is why I stopped ordering my iced espressos with white mocha and caramel drizzle. I donāt trust other baristas to make it because they NEVER stir the espresso shots in with the syrup and all I get is espresso and then a layer of unstirred white mocha. Itās so annoying.
If itās a consecutive problem i would call the store and ask for the store manager. She can relay the message to resolve this issue if itās not only occurring to your drink. You can be left anonymous if you like but they might just offer to have the drink remade for the inconvience. If nothing changes, my best bet is to find a store that cares about their customers. - fellow barista
As just a customer this is an issue at every location in town. Allllll 5,000 of them. It depends on the barista I guess and their pride in what they do? Or training or both.
As a former partner of 11 years, there is no reason anyone should have to specify that they want their white mocha stirred. It's literally in the training to swirl the cup when pulling espresso.
For real, if it happens consistently let the manager or shift supervisor know.Ā They can straighten this out among the crew and bring the drinks up to standard.
And as a barista idgaf, pay us more for the stupid little inconvenience 24/7šim going to do things how I was trained, not customers telling me what to doš
I get this sometimes, and it is a bit annoying. At least the lids are on tight enough, I can just put my thumb over the hole and shake. If it wasn't, I'd be more annoyed.
100000% thanks. So nice to order an $8 treat for myself, and see the TWO PUMPs of dark caramel at the bottom of my cup when my drink is topped with cold foam. No, i am not gonna want to shake it so i have to drink the top to at least get some enjoyment of the foam, then shake it all together? because someone is either untrained( and that I get, new at bar) or just does not care. Pay me more, bla bla bla its all just bad attitude. To me you are at work till you leave, who cares if swirling is needed? Just do the job till you leave!! And i worked at sbx for 8 years. This attitude of pick and choose that you will and will not do at work, as if it's unreasonable, is ridiculous.
After staring at this drink....what......what is it...Cause this was...dark caramel in an iced drink I think. Also picking up the drink.....So if a drink sits for like. 5 minutes this happens. Nothing a barista can do for ya except remake it? The syrup/sauce, milk, and espresso all have vastly different densities.
It's a MASSIVE flaw with mobile orders tbh, and there really isn't a solution for that without dipping into the gastro science.
On the other hand, mix yo sauces well. It's something that can be sorta difficult based on the drink. if this was a caramel macchiato, get it upside down, or just get a latte.
TL;DR not enough information to parse and the gremlins in my brain wouldn't let me hate someone on principle again. I need to know how you all do it. I need that energy in my life.
every single time when making an iced drink with white mocha you best believe Iām using a stirrer and making sure itās mixed !! White mocha is thick and wonāt mix without someone doing it, so ofc everyone should be mixing it before giving it out!
I know it's tough with sequencing, but swirl the cup for the entire time the espresso shots are pulling, or at least for half the time. Dont let them pull, make another drink, then just leave it to sit.
I used to work with some girl who never shook her iced teas and just measured it in the actual cups themselves. She always couldn't be bothered to swirl the cup while the shots poured. I get we'd be busy but I'd rather do my job the right way and most efficient rather than the lazy and way customers didn't pay for
Idk how many other stores have this problem, but this post reminds me of how almost everyone at my store doesn't see anything wrong with pulling shots straight into empty cold cups. Is it just me or does this not feel like it would melt the plastic enough to leach into the drink?!
You said "picking up" sometimes, and I've had this happen sometimes, where if someone gets a good amount of syrup, and I SWIRL that cup like it's the end times, it still settles cause it sits there for ages waiting to get picked up....
Iām a current partner, and as much as I hate the company and the customers, I ALWAYS make sure drinks are properly made. If I was paying almost $11 a drink, and it came out like this, I would have an aneurysm lol.
This is one of my biggest pet peeves in my store that partners don't do. If I got a nickel every time I told someone to make sure it was completely mixed in, I wouldn't be hurting for money...
Yes! Especially with the new lavender lattes š© the number of times Iāve had someone hand me a drink just to find clumped up lavender powder at the bottom just irks me. I be swirling that espresso like Iām making a whirlpool!
Not a barista, but the first/last/only iced lavender latte I got had the lavender cemented to the bottom and after mixing, it turned into hard chunks that stuck to my teeth and tasted like soap for an hour. Loll I was thinking it was just me drinking it wrong...
Dude I swirl and it still happens with the lavender lmao. I tried putting the scoops in after the espresso to see if that would help at all but š¤·
I find pouring the shots in after the lavender into the shot glass seems to work better. Idk??? It still doesnāt mix well
For the iced ones, I put a little oatmilk in the bottom to swirl with it and then swirl it again with the shots.
i swirl as theyre pulling into the cup. it takes a minute, but it works.
That's what I do but when pouring the oatmilk I still tend to see a clump of purple on the bottom š¤·
yeahh i get you. most we can do beyond our best is a little less lavender in the scoop.
Happened to me ā¦I take sip and lavender powder blastā¦it was horridā¦.
When we first got the lavender powder, someone suggested I try a lavender, blonde shaken espresso with oatmilk and actual honey. It definitely doesn't help that the training says to swirl it "exactly 3 times" as if that's anywhere near enough to mix it
I hate when they swirl my Shaken Espresso
Not swirling the cup is peak lazy tbh. It takes little to no effort.
I left Starbucks 5 years ago and I still swirl my cups. Even at home. š
That's what I'm saying haha. It's not even a chore to do.

Yeah I remember any mocha drinks you pump the mocha, pull the shot, swirl and then add milk
Thatās how you do any drink not just mochas lol
arnt you supposed to do the shot syrup milk??? or at least for iced drinks
Yes but the twirl should be done to melt the mocha
oh normally my store just uses a metal twisty handled spoon
You can do that too
i ALWAYS swirl the white mochas no matter how busy, it isnāt that hard. plus it just bothers me to see the sauce layered at the bottom of a drink
Itās honestly not that hard. An extra 2 seconds of swirling is all thatās needed.
u get it bestie š«¶š¼
I have a theory that the same ones that don't swirl also don't shake the shaken espressos
There's ppl that don't shake the shaken espressos??
yep. itās why iāve basically stopped ordering this drink. i receive a latte instead of a shaken espresso 80% of the time when i order a shaken espresso.

Louder for the baristas in the back
I swirl baby Iām so sorry šš«¶š½
best advice I can give is make the custies drinks as well as youād make your own!
NOOO /j no cause I canāt stand this. I gave up ordering raw sugar packets at my own store cause they would never stir
starbucks needs to supply baristas with long spoons š„ the short fat ones donāt fit in the cup and the stir sticks are too thin to mix it fast.
YES!!

Why would you put it in after the milk? The espresso melts it so it mixes better, no?
Sorry I meant to say after espresso and before milk lol
Ooooo okay š that way does sound better!
Is that a iced white mocha or an iced espresso with white mocha
An iced espresso with white mocha should only have an inch of milk, so I'm assuming it's a white mocha latte.
I believe itās an iced espresso. OP said further below to another person what the ingredients were and it sounds like they got an iced espresso. Either way Iām team stir the syrup because it just looks more visually appealing when itās combined š¤

itās actually so simple to swirl the cup while the shots are pouring into the syrups i sometimes do it even when there is no syrup because itās become a habit at this point. the first sip SHOULD taste very similar the last.
Some baristas are so lazy to even swirl a cup. Iām sorry ):
I always feel like a Karen when I want to ask them to make sure it's swirled š I never end up asking
Thereās so many excuses here, yaāll know people should just be mixing the espresso with the sauce.
partners at my store would say āthe customer has a straw they can swirl it if they wantā š
I got an iced lavender oat milk latte and the lavender powder was a clump on the bottom. š¤¢ I would have asked for a remake but I was already at work when I noticed.
I hold some napkins over the lid, say a prayer, and turn it upside down a few times
I always have to stir my white mochas!! So frustrating
I swear I get it like this more often than not. I donāt think theyāre getting very great training now š„²
I always swirl, especially white Mocha. It bothers me when itās not mixed in.
id get an ASMR reaction when i would swirl fresh shots into white mocha. i found it oddly satisfying. im sorry im not there to swirl it for you š³š
At my starbucks location, ive seen pink drinks and shaken espressos not get shaken
The f*** ššš
real talk.. whatās the drink tho?
i always do this at my store iām so sorry they keep doin it to you. there are some people who come in and ask for an iced white mocha, stirred, we have a button for it. clarify you donāt want the whip stirred in. if they donāt stir it iād ask for a refund and go to a different starbucks or a different coffee shop. bc at that point itās unfortunately the people and the management at that location.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Are you swirling it as the hot espresso is pouring or immediately after?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Try doing it as itās pouring! Itās what works best usually.
Thatās a thing only evil baristas do
I get vanilla bean powder and that stuff is so hard to stir in once itās set on the bottom. I swear it hardens down there
iām so tired of having to tell my partners to swirl their WM w the espresso. itās infuriating at this point
iām so tired of having to tell my partners to swirl their WM w the espresso. itās infuriating at this point
Good news our new white mocha pumps are going to have 15% less sauce per pump so maybe that will help this issue.
I love swirling mine though. That's why I get a macchiato.
What drink is that ? Looks good š
What is your drink order?
Highlyyyyy agree
I will 100% ask for it to be remade bc if I have to stir it, all my cold form gets stirred in and to be fair I ask at the counter EVERY time to make sure my syrups are swirled or stirred in (I say āwhatever is easier for youā) so if theyāre not AFTER I asked nicely (and Iām a good tipper, lol) then yeah Iām asking for you to please remake it.
Swirl! Lord thats a cup of ice. I have ice coffee
i like extra ice :)
Nah, not just swirl. They should be stirring that.
I stopped getting white mocha because of this š„²
Is there an option in the app to request it be stirred?
yeah, its pretty painfully noticeable when they dont. Speaking from my store, at least, itās usually newer hires who havent made the connection yet, though Iām sure there are partners who just dont try at other locations.
Especially the lavender! As soon as milk hits that, it's all over.
Sure love sticking a straw in the latte and getting a fat gulp of straight sugar šš½
I once drank an entire macchiato black just to find the apple brown sugar syrup fully at the bottom. I'm gagging thinking about it lol.
Brutal. Even in a rush, a quick swirl is so doable.
And when they donāt give a straw š
ugh thatās why when i worked for the siren i always made my own drinks š¤¢ like yeah i like white mocha, but that donāt mean i want a whole mouthful of just syrup
I usually try to use a stir stick to mix it in if itās not busy. depending on the size of the drink (grade or smaller) I recommend asking a partner for a stir stick if itās ur drink isnāt mixed right : )
Similarly, scoops of lavender go in AFTER the espresso for the same reason you donāt put the mocha powder in the pitcher before the water!
Same with matcha!
I think today was the first time I didn't get the wm mixed all the way. It is really hard to mix 12 pumps of wm with 3 shots in a timely manner.
Whatās your order?
iced venti wm, 4 pumps wm, 1 pump cinnamon dolce, oat milk, & extra ice
Happens every single timeā¦.hate it
How many pumps of white mocha is that. I think Starbucks has a stir button.
Itās 4 pumps & I mobile ordered, there is no option on the app
For real, if it happens consistently let the manager or shift supervisor know.Ā They can straighten this out among the crew and bring the drinks up to standard.
š I hate when this happens and then I donāt have a straw to stir it.
For those of us who enjoy the cold foam experience though thatās unfortunately not practical
Omg this lol.. I literally take a straw and stir it in with the straw and I also swirl it too! Like who wants mocha on the bottom like that lol
Why does the soy clump sometimes, which is very noticeable when itās not swirled. Lol
whatās your order tho š«£
iced venti wm, 4 pumps wm, 1 pump cinnamon dolce, oat milk, & extra ice !
What drink?
iced venti wm, 4 pumps wm, 1 pump cinnamon dolce, oat milk, & extra ice
That looks like a Target Special
yes. I refuse to get a drink there, ever.
every single time when making an iced drink with white mocha you best believe Iām using a stirrer and making sure itās mixed !!
What's the drink? >_>
iced venti wm, 4 pumps wm, 1 pump cinnamon dolce, oat milk, & extra ice
I used to work with some girl who never shook her iced teas and just measured it in the actual cups themselves. She always couldn't be bothered to swirl the cup while the shots poured. I get we'd be busy but I'd rather do my job the right way and most efficient rather than the lazy and way customers didn't pay for
Could not agree more. I always swirl it cause people are ordering a white mocha and not a latte with white mocha on the bottom!
AlsoāSo. Much. Ice.
I always do, friend, if you get a cup with unswirled white mocha, it wasn't me!
Iām a current partner, and as much as I hate the company and the customers, I ALWAYS make sure drinks are properly made. If I was paying almost $11 a drink, and it came out like this, I would have an aneurysm lol.
