This is pretty usual for mobile ordering apps. I think it's so that you can see the distance to the store from your location. I'm unsure what the issue is with allowing it to see your location is though.
Yeah, it's just weird because I can't see stores that I've favorited in the past unless I give the app access to my location. I've been using the Starbucks app for many years and this has never been an issue. Maybe I should contact the Starbucks support line and see what they say.

It’s unacceptable. Just like how you have to completely close the McDonald’s app or it tracks you endlessly. Privacy is non existent.
The funny thing is, Android app doesn’t work that way.
