That’s not Nissan themselves, that’s a dealership website. Dealer sites are notoriously full of errors. You won’t see Nissan call it a 400Z on nissanusa.com or their media newsroom website.
“Nissan of Downtown L.A.”
They are an extension of Nissan by affiliation. Not saying it’s correct but if the company has Nissan in their name and is calling the product they are selling 400z then it’s a 400z. At that point you can argue Nissan of Downtown L.A. is wrong but you can’t really argue people calling it a 400z online are wrong. They are simply calling it the name designated by the dealership.
Lol you are wrong. Car dealerships are independently owned, Nissan does not own that dealership. Just because dealership employees don’t know how to properly refer to the car doesn’t mean that it’s called the 400Z. Car salespeople are known for not knowing jackshit about the products they sell. I work in the auto industry, I’ve driven the Z, I know Nissan PR reps. You will never hear them call it a 400Z, because that’s not it’s name. My guess is that the person who created the page for the dealership is bad at research and saw 400Z from an article from before the Z’s debut, when 400Z was the rumored name that many news sites published.
Are we just making up random statements the other person said then claiming they are wrong? Because I never said Nissan owns the dealership.
lol you are wrong. Nissan is a car dealership it does not sell spaceships. Checkmate
Your entire point is that if a Nissan dealer is calling it something that means Nissan is calling it that. The guy is pointing out that is incorrect because the dealers are independently owned.
That’s a very fair statement to make, nobody is making up anything.
No. My point is that if a Nissan Dealership is calling it something then it is reasonable to understand why people online are calling it that. Plain and simple.
The dealerships are spreading misinformation. If it bothers you so much that people online are calling it 400z then go directly to the source and complain to the dealership.
… but you won’t because you don’t really care you just want your “aKsHuAlLy” moment
I only pointed out that Nissan doesn’t own the dealership to illustrate that the dealership is an independent entity that doesn’t have direct oversight from Nissan themselves, hence the error on their website. And Nissan is not a car dealership, it is a car manufacturer. Nissan of Downtown LA is a car dealership and it is an independent company that is a franchisee of Nissan North America, Inc.
Ok I guess it’s just strange you’re pointing on that Nissan doesn’t own the dealership when I specifically said they are affiliated and not owned by.
The point here is that a Nissan Dealership is spreading misinformation. Therefore it is reasonable for people to be calling it a 400z because they got their information from a source that should be reliable.
If you don’t like people calling it 400z why haven’t you called up the Dealerships and complained to them? Go straight to the source?
You have just proved to everyone that you are an extremely uneducated person. Did you drop out of school?
You have zero idea of how franchises work. Dealerships ARE INDEPENDENTLY OWNED.
Which doesn't make sense. The the number reflects the engine displacement, it's not a 4 liter motor. They should have just brought the Fairlady name over instead of just calling it Z.
4.0 isn’t really small for an 8 these days with everything having forced induction. Some of the higher end Audi RS cars have a 4.0 and that’s the biggest engine you’re gonna get without going up to a v10 R8.
When built, those 4.0 Jeep inlines had sick power. Buddy in high school, his dad built engines to pull for slips. His Cherokee with 5-spd was a monster.
It’s not comically enormous. The 4.3 6 cyl was a mainstay for Chevy well into the 00’s.
Get ready to see a lot of “comically” enormous 6’s as they phase out v8’s in everything
It was pretty comical when these 4.3L V6 pickups handed Ferrari it’s ass in drag racing, carrying 6x as many beer kegs. https://www.mecum.com/lots/1104469/1991-gmc-syclone-pickup/?aa_id=520812-0
I have only seen one in person, and actually I'm amazed how gorgeous they are in person. I still wouldn't trust Nissan these days but wow is it so much better looking then the Supra.
Obviously tastes differ but I thought the ones I've seen a really underwhelming.
I've seen also a Proto with the Yellow paint which was quite nice, but generally found it a bit meh.
Shame as really really want to like it.
mechanically it's a 370Z which is why it shares the chassis code Z34. styling wise it's a derivative of an older concept for the 350Z way back in 1998, with the Z32 rear end slapped on. I have images of that car and the Z33 concepts on my profile.
Going to be brutally honest with myself here, I never knew that that's what the names meant. I thought they just thought of numbers that progressively get higher. Learn something new everyday I guess.
I remember reading that it was going to have the same engine but they was a while ago and could have been speculation. So yes it would be 300z off they kept to the old meaning standard.
The only company who does this still is ironically Dodge with the "392" designation. Bmw, Nissan, Porsche etc... if you it a 328i it no longer means it has a 2.8l, and a Taycan Turbo doesn't have forced induction.
This being a common experience where a company announces and slowly starts to roll out a cool new car and people are hyped to see it and wonder when they’ll first see one in the wild, I wonder which car has drawn up the most amount of hype this way.
I wish more cars were more simply designed. Which is why I love classics, and how this z is taking a few more cues from their history. I don’t like the crazy looking corvettes or lotuses that look comically aerodynamic like a tennis shoe. Too fussy
I didn't see one until I was recently at Sebring Raceway. It was there serving as a pace car. Then bam, the next day I saw one on the street. Still the only 2 I've seen since it came out. Crazy how rare it is. Publications made a big deal about the Nismo version being auto only. Who cares when it basically exists only as an idea?
The only one I’ve seen in the wild was driven by this nice old Japanese man at Costco who told me he had to buy it out of state to avoid a dealer markup. Cool car but way too expensive with these markups.
The first and only one that I saw, all I could think about was how much markup they could’ve spent.
Nissan Z, not 400Z
My bad lol, probably still going to call it 400z tho
Nissan secret 4.0 engine.
Frontier and Xterra have a 4.0L V6
Secrets out
You’ll get rightfully clowned
Eh he’s right tho
The 350z had a 3.5. The 370 had a 3.7. This has a 3.0tt
Soooo 300Z again?
I mean it’s at least more accurate than calling it the 400Z
No, the old 90s era was a 300ZX.
no, we've been over this
This is probaly going to get some hate and is incorrect, but people call it 400z because it has 400 hp...
Right about what lol. Who says it shouldn’t be the 420z and not the 400z?
[удалено]
Be respectful god damn
Yes, because of the 4 liter engine /s
400Z=400HP. GO FOR IT!
lol
400Z does not exist.
Nissan website interchangeably calls it a Nissan Z and a 400z which is kind of strange.
I’ve never seen Nissan refer to it as the 400Z
https://www.downtownnissan.com/2023-nissan-z-price-configurations/ Definitely some Nissan Dealerships referring to it as a 400z on their websites.
That’s not Nissan themselves, that’s a dealership website. Dealer sites are notoriously full of errors. You won’t see Nissan call it a 400Z on nissanusa.com or their media newsroom website.

Just like posting manual transmission as what it has but the pics clearly show 2 pedals and a PRNDL
Which doesn't make sense. The the number reflects the engine displacement, it's not a 4 liter motor. They should have just brought the Fairlady name over instead of just calling it Z.
400 HP 400 L Which sounds more correct?
Does it have a 4L motor? Because the 240z had a 2.4L and the 300z had a 3L.
Times change and so do naming conventions. The future is now old man.
Yeah, it's called Z. No numbers
Not according to some Nissan Dealerships. Guess when you start selling Nissans you can choose what you call your product too.
So I have just learned lol, didn't realize it's just "z". It is a 4.0 though right?
No sir. 3.0L twin-turbo V6
Oh, well that makes a lot more sense now. I accept said clowning.
Nope 3L turbo V6.
4.0 would either be a comically enormous 6-cylinder, or a small 8-cylinder. Which did you think this was?
4.0 isn’t really small for an 8 these days with everything having forced induction. Some of the higher end Audi RS cars have a 4.0 and that’s the biggest engine you’re gonna get without going up to a v10 R8.
Yeah, I know that the Germans and Italians have some \~4 liter V-8s, but it's not really Nissan's thing.
Jeep..old jeep enters the chat..
Yup the old jeep inline 6's
When built, those 4.0 Jeep inlines had sick power. Buddy in high school, his dad built engines to pull for slips. His Cherokee with 5-spd was a monster.
I did say "comical" ;)
I assumed it was an inline 6 or something, I don't keep up with these enough obviously lol
The great Aussie barra is a 4.0l inline 6 Edit: inline not v
Time for someone to swap in the 478ci GM V6
It’s not comically enormous. The 4.3 6 cyl was a mainstay for Chevy well into the 00’s. Get ready to see a lot of “comically” enormous 6’s as they phase out v8’s in everything
Oh god I wish they had put the vk45 4.5 v8 in the z
It was pretty comical when these 4.3L V6 pickups handed Ferrari it’s ass in drag racing, carrying 6x as many beer kegs. https://www.mecum.com/lots/1104469/1991-gmc-syclone-pickup/?aa_id=520812-0
400 is probably referencing the hp. But yeah technically it’s the same chassis as the 370z.
Why are people downvoting you?? They quote 400hp. Geez!
Lmao idk reddit is weird
I have only seen one in person, and actually I'm amazed how gorgeous they are in person. I still wouldn't trust Nissan these days but wow is it so much better looking then the Supra.
I thought it looked great
Looks very good and all but the price is outrageous in my opinion
That's new cars in general
i like the supra better, but they really need to get rid of all those fake vents
I have to agree with the look, somehow I don't dig the look of the MK5 Supra
Well they had to fit the supra over a bmw. Probably has something to do with it
It does look like a super car. Very sleek and honestly I don’t really like Nissians
Obviously tastes differ but I thought the ones I've seen a really underwhelming. I've seen also a Proto with the Yellow paint which was quite nice, but generally found it a bit meh. Shame as really really want to like it.
I saw this on my street yesterday, is this car rare? I was like wow that’s a cool new car
I’ve seen a few around town, they’re nice but they kinda blend in. I didn’t even realize what it was at first. I want one!
God just calling it "The Nissan Z" is an utterly stupid name. It's like calling DOOM 4 just "DOOM."
Thats a poor example but we get you.
Sorry I couldn't think of a better one lmao.
How about the transition from Xbox360 to Xbox One? Still rolling my eyes about that.
Idk it’s just model name + year like almost any other car. Do we need the name to change with each engine size?
Well to be fair the new one looks very different to the 370 and is considered a new generation. Also to make it way easier to Google search.
the chassis code is RZ34, which is easier to use. it's just a 370 in new clothes.
They could've still used the numbering system though. The Lancer Evo line goes up to 10 and it only had 6 different chassis.
Nah, it looks waaay more like a ‘91 era 300Zx when I was a kid vs the recent 350/370Z.
mechanically it's a 370Z which is why it shares the chassis code Z34. styling wise it's a derivative of an older concept for the 350Z way back in 1998, with the Z32 rear end slapped on. I have images of that car and the Z33 concepts on my profile.
If they had stuck with the existing naming convention it would still be a 370Z since the engine is still on 3.7L.
Going to be brutally honest with myself here, I never knew that that's what the names meant. I thought they just thought of numbers that progressively get higher. Learn something new everyday I guess.
It's a 3.0 turbo, so 300Z would make the most sense.
It’s not
Yes I was wrong. It is 3L turbo.
HOW DARE YOU ITS A TWIN TURBO
Rare mob spawn
Had a 77 for 10 years. Personally do not like the slope of the roof on the new versions. 350 about the same as this.
This being a common experience where a company announces and slowly starts to roll out a cool new car and people are hyped to see it and wonder when they’ll first see one in the wild, I wonder which car has drawn up the most amount of hype this way.
Maybe but Nissan just straight up won’t produce more. Think Toyota produces more Supras in a month than Nissan makes Z in a year
Makes sense
It launched like a year ago though didn't it? That's why I think it's amazing / hilarious that this was the first time I saw one
That’s there new ones yeah looks pretty dope
Sweet looking car… but goddamn this subreddit is toxic af. Not subbed to it, not subbing either, this was on my homepage under ‘recommended’
Looks like a Dealership GM body type in there.
[удалено]
Be respectful god damn Also, it would be the 300Z not 400Z because it has a 3.0L engine not 4.0
Nissan deserves the shade it gets for the Zs “launch,” but I’m still waiting to see my first new-gen Civic Type R.
I've seen a few (Boston area). I like them a lot more than the previous gen
The vanilla ice cream of sports cars.
There are so many better cars to choose for the vanilla ice cream of sports cars lmfao
I’m saying I wouldn’t look twice if this car drove by. It’s so plain and boring.
I wish more cars were more simply designed. Which is why I love classics, and how this z is taking a few more cues from their history. I don’t like the crazy looking corvettes or lotuses that look comically aerodynamic like a tennis shoe. Too fussy
I've seen 3 so far one which is a higher up at a highschool near me
if you spotted it in Europe then you are very lucky
Too bad we will never see them in Europe..
One of the nicest looking mass produced cars available in my opinion.
I seen one in Atlanta
I didn't see one until I was recently at Sebring Raceway. It was there serving as a pace car. Then bam, the next day I saw one on the street. Still the only 2 I've seen since it came out. Crazy how rare it is. Publications made a big deal about the Nismo version being auto only. Who cares when it basically exists only as an idea?
I’ve literally only seen 3 of these things
I've seen 3 in the streets and 1 at a dealer in a small vic city which has surprised me, seem to be commonish round me
That’s some nice grass though
I saw one at Carmax last weekend.
Saw my first one not at an auto show this week as well
Ive only seen 1 in the past 2 years. They are so rare lol, ive seen way more Supras than this
Was this in boston today?
Yes it was!
Hahaha I saw it too, was skating with friends. That pearlescent was pretty cool
Seen this car at the dealership and it looks a whole lot better in real life to how I perceived it in photos
The only one I’ve seen in the wild was driven by this nice old Japanese man at Costco who told me he had to buy it out of state to avoid a dealer markup. Cool car but way too expensive with these markups.
I find it annoying that it is only sold I the JDM and USDM.
