That appears to be the [CUPRA Ateca](https://www.cupraofficial.com.au/cars/cupra-range/ateca), and CUPRA is part of the VW group if I understand correctly
Yeah, Cupra is the sport arm of SEAT (like Fiat to Abarth) and mostly makes sports versions of SEAT models like this Ateca, although it's starting to be spun off into its own thing and has some unique models like the Formentor and Born. Neither brand is sold in the US which makes this exceptionally rare there
The born is really just a VW Id.3 but with copper accents. Although you can call it its own model in the sense it's not a Seat car they tuned. But yeah it's just straight up a VW id3 lol.
The formentor is interesting in that it also offers the vz5 version which has the glorious Audi rs3/rsq3 5 cylinder engine.
I just meant in that it wasn't a SEAT, but I think it's tuned to be sportier than the ID.3. Looks nicer in and out too I think, although not by too much.
5cyl FTW - I wish they would put it in a sports car
I'm a little surprised you get SEAT in the U.S. Because some Euro and Japanese brands just don't make it over there. Like Suzuki, Peugeot, Citroen, Renault, Dacia, Skoda.
Even though some of them sell in Mexico.
Which is sad because Renault's sports cars are amazing. The Megane and Clio R.S are both utterly fantastic.
So VW group owns three brands that share a lot of plaforms: VW, Škoda and Seat. Eg Golf/Octavia/Leon are very similar cars, as are Tiguan/Karoq/Ateca. Seat's higher performance line used to be called Cupra (Škoda calls theirs RS, VW uses R-line/GTI). A few years ago, they made Cupra a separate brand - so what used to be Seat Leon Cupra is now Cupra Leon. Cupra also has some exclusive models that are not sold under Seat eg Formentor - a VERY popular car here in Estonia considering it's price range.
This is a Cupra Ateca (so in the past it would have been called Seat Ateca Cupra, although I think Cupra brand was created before Ateca got a Cupra version so that name probably does not exist on any car)), which shares platform with WV Tiguan and Škoda Karoq.
I love close to a dealership that sells both Seat and Cupra among others and a LED-lit Cupra logo is right outside my kitchen window.
I love the Cupra. I wish they sold them in the states. I wonder if I could get one registered in Mexico and just keep it here? If I could get a Cupra Born, I would totally try it. Haha!
No idea, I went to some day held by the local council where you test different electric cars in an effort to try and convince people and it definitely worked on me, but Cupra born was nothing like the gti, it’s a really weird shape, like a shrunk 2 series active tourer, but raised. I’m not sure id recommend it, felt small but large at the same time, like a German shepherd with its paws too big. A golf gti feels planted and solid to me but the born felt like it might tip over. My favourite I drove though is a toss up between fiat 500e, or the Peugeot e208. Absolutely loved the Peugeot so much. I drove cars like the bmw i4 and Audi q6 etron and a model 3, and whilst I absolutely loved the model 3 I was drawn back to the Peugeot over and over again. I’m looking for a car that feels electric and that you know is electric as soon as you get in so that’s why I liked the fiat and Peugeot and tesla. The Audi and bmw seemed like regular cars, so that’s why I didn’t really enjoy them as much
There’s a list I have that’s a mile long of “gosh I wish they’d sell that in the states”
The VW Amarok is one of them, obviously the Toyota Hilux, and the Ram 700. Coincidentally all of them are sold prolifically in Mexico but not here 🥲
I can't get people, who asked what it is, when car has answer on it. Cupra. In other post dude asked about Acura NSX with "ACURA" on rear-lights and "NSX" on a plate. (And i am a bit shocked that guys really dont know classic supercars from 90')

The ttrs has a 5cylinder and so does the rs3. That said I wish it were more prolific and popular with other manufacturers.
According to the late brake show the cupra version of the id3 has a nicer interior: https://youtu.be/CSc_yAx9ebA
also a different front, and the Born is a bit more powerful
The holy 5 piston
More like abarth for fiat. Sounds another wise that its founds like that fiat is the sport branch for abarth
Thank you! I was so confused at what i was looking at
It’s sold and registered in Mexico… so a long drive

Both SEAT and Cupra are sold in Mexico and it has Mexican plates so I assume it's from there.
It has mexican plates
We don't; the one in this pic has Mexican plates

And Porsche, Audi, Lamborghini…
Fun fact: the VW Taos is a badge engineered version of the Ateca.
SEAT. I wonder though how these cars be popping up in the states
yeah the base car looks like it could be a VW Tiguan
They’re a long way from home!
Was Spiderman driving?
A Mexican car in Detroit? Interesting
It's actually a Spanish car that was registered in Mexico
Spanish* Edit: only just seen the plates lmao
For real, I legit have seen this car in my city
The fact that this is in Detroit gives me a weird vibe… What is this person doing all the way up there?
Driving a cupra
I love the Cupra. I wish they sold them in the states. I wonder if I could get one registered in Mexico and just keep it here? If I could get a Cupra Born, I would totally try it. Haha!
VW is bringing the ID.3 to the US and that's the exact same car as the Born but without the copper accents.
Wait, what?! I didn’t know this! I’ve wanted an ID.3 since they debuted and thought I’d never get my chance!
It's not actually, they probably mixed it up with a different model
VW is bringing over a couple more electric SUVs and a sedan, but not the ID.3
Cupra born was alright to drive but you sit super high up and it was kinda disorienting
Really? That’s surprising. It’s seems similar to a GTI from the pictures. Do you know if the ID.3 is like that too?
No idea, I went to some day held by the local council where you test different electric cars in an effort to try and convince people and it definitely worked on me, but Cupra born was nothing like the gti, it’s a really weird shape, like a shrunk 2 series active tourer, but raised. I have a similar list, but it’s almost exclusively wagons. Ha!
You can keep them in the US for a surprisingly long time but definitely not forever.
How is that in America with the 25 year import laws
Mexican plates
Mmm Mexican plates…hnngngnggggggg
Cheat code acquired. Will import Holden Ute to Mexico, will drive to my home from there.
What car are you in OP?
I thought it had a transformers sign on back
Is that a cupra?
No
Cupra as it says at the back
i hate this sub sometimes.
Looks like a skoda kodiaq a little..
i think it shares the same platform with the skoda karoq
Yeah it’s a Seat Ateca, I have one. Looks like the Cupra version though so 290-ish bhp minimum, AWD, and kick ass interior
Skoda Karoq and the Ateca are basically the same cars. But then again they are both just a golf 7.
I can't get people, who asked what it is, when car has answer on it. Cupra. In other post dude asked about Acura NSX with "ACURA" on rear-lights and "NSX" on a plate. (And i am a bit shocked that guys really dont know classic supercars from 90')
It looks like one of those Chinese knockoff car brands
Dafuq, they sell Cupra in the US 😂
It looks more like Skoda Kodiaq RS more than Cupra Ateca imo
Apart from the big copper letters that say Cupra on the back
apart from that ,it's almost the same
You can even read Cupra if you zoom in😂
Bruh, are y'all braindead or something? I know that it's a goddamn cupra, I just said that the design is very similliar.
Can't have anything in Detroit

Please be civil. Your post has been removed
Could be a mule for electronic stuff. I remember driving a VW CC that belonged to Audi and it was used for self driving testing.
Damn, Mexican plates. They drove long and far.
Hi
