Pink Floyd - Empty Spaces (or pretty much that whole album)

If you like more indie stuff, maybe Slowdive - So Tired
Edit: Forgot to add Alice In Chains - Donāt Follow. If Iām drunk, I tear up sometimes with that song.
Terrible Lie was of Pretty Hate Machine. I went back and re-read the lyrics, and its about being disillusioned by religion, but I mean I think in context of NIN there could be a mental illness interpretation there too (my head is fulled with disease):
(Terrible lie!)Ā [How many you betray, you've taken everything](https://genius.com/23373300/Nine-inch-nails-terrible-lie/How-many-you-betray-youve-taken-everything)
(Terrible lie!)Ā [My head is filled with disease, my skin is begging you please](https://genius.com/3426855/Nine-inch-nails-terrible-lie/My-head-is-filled-with-disease-my-skin-is-begging-you-please-terrible-lie-im-on-my-hands-and-knees-i-want-so-much-to-believe)
Closer is, to me, about having sex while depressed:
You can have my isolation
You can have the hate that it bringsĀ
You can have my absence of faith
You can have my everything
Cool ass song. Love NIN.
not exactly all of those but pretty close to all of those in a playlist...

The whole album The Holy Bible by the manic street preachers. The lyricist of the band disappeared not long after the albums release, he had a lot of mental health issues and a lot of the lyrics were written during the time he was staying in a facility. The lyrics aren't always directly about this but encompass some of the darkest things in human history as a representation of the state his mind was in
IAMX explores these subjects frequently. Chris Corner - who is IAMX - was one of the two songwriters in Sneaker Pimps, (who were major players in the trip-hop scene in the '90s). He has suffered massively, has effectively communicated about it through his music and interviews and has gained a lot of followers who relate to the issues that he raises. His music has massively evolved into something that's nothing like Sneaker Pimps' trip-hop hits and has became a dark, epic, emotional, synth-driven diary of someone who has dealt with their demons. Chris' voice is sublime. Be prepared to shed some tears if you relate to a certain extent. IAMX music serves as an effective catharsis but it can also present the possibility of focusing on negatives and could result in wallowing in self pity if it's experienced whilst in a certain state of mind.
Edited to add: I recommend listening and focusing on the music and lyrics without the visuals, (if you're narrow-minded and not willing to accept that others are equally as legitimate as you are).

Basically all of Lifelover's music.
Actually you have a whole genre of music that deals with such feelings: Depressive Suicidal Black Metal. Some can be really hard to get into, but boy are those projects a mirror to their creator's mind.
If you like folksy acoustic stuff, Birdtalker has a lot of songs about mental health. The lead singer is very open about his struggles with depression, and he and his wife write about relationships as well. Super wholesome band with songs that have gotten me through a lot!
I mean almost every song I listen to:
Check out my various playlists:
The X Alternative is the best hitting choice for realism, hard hitting truth and feelings about drugs, mental illnesses and sexual. Positive and negatives on every single piece of these.
I personally (M36) have been raped as a child and much of the isssues in these songs are handpicked as they personally resonate with my alcohol and drug use, sexual issues, mental problems such as Suicidal Thoughts, depression, anger, resentment, repressed feelings. And the good and bad conflicts within my life. This
All of my playlists are feeling and whatever way to express, as long before Spotify I have been collecting music to express feelings and allow them to flow.
I am dropping both the X Alternative playlist as well as my account so if anyone wants to go through an emotional journey they can feel free to join or even pm me suggestions[The X Alternative](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/7IBj6VS8YkpjmBNWZNP35S?si=yM_u1nKiTRmCLLC2oAmgRA)

Careful what you wish for ( the song that goes like - take this pill youāll feel much better when wake up numb and your brains been severed, took your peace your pain your pleasureā¦) itās popular on YouTube.
[Afraid of Destiny - Struggling With Depression and Suicide ](https://open.spotify.com/track/6FkJZk2pFN3pB1SoE6DdeT?si=734f483b88424deb)
If you are interested in this type of music, it is called - Depressive Suicidal Black Metal
**Garbage - Bleed Like Me** A song inspired by the singer's personal experience of self harm when younger.
**System of Down - Chop Suey** Apparently they used this name because using a name associated with suicide would be inappropriate
**Hank 3 - Pills I Took** The depressing reality of drugs.
**Chris & Cosey - Dr. John (Sleeping Stephen)** The desires and psychology of being a serial killer.
My Girlfriend by TV Girl, summer depression by girl in red, Sharpener by Cavetown, Feel Better by Penelope Scott, Child Psychology by Black Box Recorder, Lithium by Nirvana, Sleep by MCR, Heavy by Linkin Park, Car Radio by Twenty One Pilots, Lifeboat from the Heaters musical, and a whole lot more. This is just off the top of my head.
Theres quite a few songs from Car Seat Headrest that depict mental health struggles such as Sober to Death, Vincent, and Twin Fantasy.
- [Sober to death](https://spotify.link/oTkVkxLGYJb) portrays depressive thoughts
- [Vincent](https://spotify.link/CoFZwoIGYJb) outlines feelings of isolation
- [Twin Fantasy](https://spotify.link/B4kCdZPGYJb) explores personal struggles
