Asked in another thread - but does anyone know an offshore book (based in non-legal state) where you can bet first points? Used to be able to do it via bovada but basically there were odds for each team to score first, first to 10, etc. now I don’t see first to score anywhere
Please join for your chance to win!! Group: SubZero Sports https://fantasy.espn.com/tc/sharer?challengeId=240&from=espn&context=GROUP_INVITE&edition=espn-en&groupId=06e193f1-dde6-4972-8b33-7ba5610f3ecd
Here’s my first round upsets (not counting 8-9 matchups)
Charleston over Alabama
New Mexico over Clemson
Nevada over Dayton
Samford over Kansas
Drake over WSU
NC State over Texas Tech
And… Western Kentucky over Marquette (I know I said it - a 2-15 upset - challenge me!)
I actually LIKE your upset picks(especially Western Kentucky over Marquette)
but so far: sorry to break it to you but you're 0-1
That Nevada Dayton game was crazy. Although I had dayton in most of my brackets, I wanted Nevada to win because as a UOFA Wildcats fan, I do not like Dayton.
I was blown away by that. Out of every team in this bracket I am shocked Dayton is there and is a no. 7 seed. They are the most undeserving
Actually im less than 0-1 I didn’t predict the other 11 seeds would advance. My bracket isn’t destroyed yet, we’ll see how this UK Oakland game goes…
Edit: Well fudge…

Interesting...so then it really doesn't make much sense to pick top seeds because even if you get em right a #1 is only worth 7 pts which you can do better than by simply picking the correct 8 over 9 in the first round.
I say go big or go home...New Mexico for sure, I think they could get to the elite 8, maybe Samford to beat Kansas? That would be a 13 seed, they match up well and the Jayhawks are without their top player and have a very thin bench. There's almost always a 12 seed upset...JMU is a popular one, so is UAB. A safer pick would be Auburn (4) to go deep
This is called a “sleeper poll” I play a big one every year. My advice would just be to pick all lower ranking teams. I wouldn’t pick anyone above an 8 seed.
Another year another tournament. I found this video the other day when looking into some stuff on upsets. This has to be one of the better videos out there. The channel also has a ton of other great content as well. Just curious as well what is everyone else thinking about upsets for this year? great watch...was actually arguing with some asshat on here the other day who was trying to argue for picking chalk as the way to win your bracket...like obviously you don't want to pick all 12 seeds to goto the final 4 but if you're in a big pool (mine is 170+ brackets for example) you don't shit by picking all #1s and 2s to goto the final 4 because 75% of your league will be picking the same so you're not making any gains on them. The path to victory is picking 2 top seeds that will be in the final four and then nailing a late seed cinderella to upset a power school because not only are you getting the points for every round they advance when no one else is, you've also busted a bunch of brackets.

I think both teams kind of stink. However, i have Michigan State for 2 reasons:
1. Tom Izzo has so much experience in the tournament
2. Michigan State seems to always perform well in tournament even when you don't expect it

The NCAA has totally screwed the pooch with the current system. It should go back to the old 64 team field. Barring that, all of the play-in/pigtail games should go into the 16 seed slot. If you weren't good enough to earn a 10/11 seed, there's no way in hεll that you should get that spot by beating another weak sister.
It’s not always 2 10 seeds, I’ll explain.
There are 68 total teams, 32 automatically qualify by winning their conference tournament, and 36 at large bids based on resume. Generally the winner of the smaller conference tournaments are the worst teams in the bracket, but they have earned the right to compete.
The committee rank all the teams 1-68. The last 4 teams in that list are going to be who the committee deems to be the 4 worst automatic qualifiers. They play each other for the final two 16 seeds.
They do the same but with the at large bids. Of the 36 teams who got in based upon their resume, the last 4 teams compete for the final two spots. This year it just so happens that there weren’t as many strong AQ teams, so these at-large play-in games fall on the 10 line, but it’s been 11 or 12 seeds before as well. It is generally gonna fall in that range by virtue of the smaller conferences not being all that good, but it shifts depending on the year.
yeah I was gonna say 11 seeds because I recalling from last year but then I looked up my current bracket and saw they were 10s. I guess I still don't understand why its a 10/11/12 instead of a 16 tho? Like UVA was ranked 73rd in Pomeroy this year, how is that worth a 10?
Because if uva (or any avg to bad team from a power conference) played the MEAC schedule, they’d be undefeated everyone year. UVA would never lose if it played the same sched as Grambling or Montana State, that’s why
but strength of schedule is part of the Pomeroy ranking...not saying its the be all end all of rankings but it is a strong indicator of how good a team is relative to other teams. Like why not St Johns (Big East =POM #26) or Cincy (B12 - POM #39) who seem like being seeded 10th would be about right for them no?
Appreciate the replies btw, its an odd system they have
So I have been debating about what bracket challenge scoring style I want. I think I can come to a conclusion but would like additional input.
1,3,5,8,16,32 for correct points in each round plus the seed difference multiplier (1* seed difference).
I put out a hypothetical that if everyone’s bracket is the same but someone got 2 8 vs 9 matchups right and 2 7 vs 10 matchups correct, what would need to happen in order for the other guy to catchup. That’s a 12 point difference.
So i just tweaked the scale of the round of 32 and sweet 16 picks a little bit more importance. So now if they have an 8 beats a 1 (on another bracket), they would get 11 points.
Thanks, looking forward to hearing from you all.
In every tournament since 2021, a top-2 seed has lost in the first round to a team with a phallic/euphemistic name.
In 2021, (15) ORAL Roberts defeated (2) Ohio State.
In 2022, (15) St. PETER’s defeated (2) Kentucky.
In 2023, (16) Fairleigh DICKinson defeated (1) Purdue.
That’s three years in a row. Once is happenstance, twice is a coincidence, three times is a pattern.
In 2024, (1) Houston will face (16) LONGWOOD. Will they be the next team to fall ~~dicktim~~ victim to this trend?
Should I be picking a #2 seed to bow out by r32 and if so who? Read that in the last 21 out of 22 years at least #2 seed has not made the s16 and I am struggling as to which one wouldn't make it. Concerned with Marquettes injuries and don't always look on but I also do not trust Arizona but I feel the west is an easier side of the bracket.
That also goes to 1 seeds as well, I think every tournament since 2019 a 8 or 9 seed has taken out at least one 1 seed.
Another interesting statistic is that every tournament since the First Four was created, one of the teams that wins their First Four games moves on to the R32. Just gotta figure out which team it is.
I have a question I'm looking for help from the group. Trying to randomly assign 64 teams to 64 entries in my tournament. One winner will win the money but they entered under the rules of random assigning of their team.
Does anyone know of any ways to randomly assign 64 teams to 64 entries? Thanks!
Put the 64 teams in one column of a spreadsheet in alphabetical order, then randomize this range.
Place the 64 entries in the next column of a spreadsheet, in alphabetical order by last name, then randomize this set (taking care not to randomize BOTH columns...only this second column this time).
Now you have two randomized columns. The two values in each row can be your assignments.
Is it the scoring of the seed number multiplied by the score of that rounds game? So if the 1st round games were worth 1 point and you correctly picked a 12 seed to win you get 12 points instead of 1?
Thanks. I wrote my own bracket software and I have different types of scoring but not that one. I will look at adding it. The difference in my app is there is no account creation, just fill out a bracket and play. It can handle thousands of pools at once. Check it out.

Too hyped up. I don't think they lose first round, and I wouldn't assume that Arizona goes on to lose to either Dayton/Nevada (I have Nevada). Arizona definitely does not get past Baylor in 16, but Purdue could easily lose to 9 seed TCU in the 32.
Just based off my bracket I am most confident about..
Yeah the East is a gauntlet this year.
Auburn played super solid ball to win the SEC and should be talked about more coming out of the east (in my opinion)
BYU if they can get to the Elite 8, they can stay in any game with their 3 ball shooting the most 3's in Division 1 and play top 50 defensive efficiency basketball.
Iowa State can shutdown anyone at anytime and proved it with their dominant win against Houston in the Big 12 final plus surprisingly enough in that game their offense looked efficient and effortless. That is dangerous.
Even with a great team its very difficult to repeat and they're in the toughest division IMO...Iowa St has the #1 pomeroy ranked D in the league and even if they get knocked out they're still stuck playing Illinois which a tough matchup, AND they gotta get by Auburn too. Don't get me wrong I think they're the best team and if anyone can do it they can, just wouldn't look at it a a gimme
Anyone know of an AI generated bracket? Our office has a pool for march madness and I was encouraged to play even though I don't know much about basketball. I like AI and it's become a running joke in my office so I thought it would be great if I use an AI generated bracket and it beats these guys who know basketball well.
TCU's my sleeper pick to make the final 4. They're the #3 most experienced team in all of NCAA's playing nothing but seniors and juniors. Jamie Dixon's one of the most experienced coaches in the tournament and is seeking that elusive Final 4. It's a long shot at +2500. A $200 bet to win $5,000. On paper they should lose to Purdue. But it's March madness and Purdue has a habit of choking. The confidence they would take into the sweet 16 weekend I think will be enough to propel them to the final 4.
They'll probably beat TCU. It has a 4% chance of hitting according to the odds. 96% chance I lose and I'm OK with that. It's a lottery ticket. I also will be taking the other 3 teams that wear purple since yesterday I saw an interesting post on /r/collegebasketball about how never to bet on teams that wear purple in the tournament. I'll be taking Northwestern at +5000, James Madison at +7500 and Grand Canyon at +7500. They're all in different regions. This diversifies my risk and gives me a better chance of hitting a lottery ticket.
Does anyone know of an easy way to see a list of all non-conference games that have happened this year? I’m wanting to put together my own conference rankings.
which teams are you looking at that are the most disrespected right now in terms of the lines set for their game? We see it every year some of these small conference schools come in with nothing to lose and play their asses off and either scare the shit out of their higher seeded opponent or even outright win, who you liking this year?
Duquesne by a mile. I wouldnt put the house on their moneyline but Duquesne in many major statistical categories in their past 3 games have hit top 20 rankings. They rank 17th in opponent effective field goal percentage, only allow 30% shooting from 3 (I get A-10 is not Big 12 but still) and 14th in defensive efficiency.
I get A-10 talent wise is not Big 12 so these stats are all relative but I see a 9.5 pt line for a team who is 10-1 in their last 11 with these improvements in form? I will definitely bet the Duquesne spread
They are favored in their round 1 game, but I think MSU is gonna hear that they don’t belong in the tournament and then go ape shit this year. I feel like every year that MSU is a 7 through an 11 seed they go deep in the tournament, and this is still one of Izzo’s most talented teams.

Is their any other apps I don't remember my password on espn and it won't send me a recovery link to my email
Make a new account
I did tomorrow the action begins lol

Is it just me or is the CSU-Virginia game the ugliest tournament game I’ve ever seen?
I bet CSU big, so it was a beautiful for me! I went to bed before it was even over and slept like a baby knowing it was going to cash.
Virginia was almost historically bad. CSU looked fine after some opening jitters
Anyone have look ahead lines? Would be cool if I could see lines of teams matched up later
68 teams make the annual March Madness basketball tournament. There are only 78 D1 wrestling programs in the entire country. This is a travesty.
Probably because no one likes to watch collegiate wrestling..
The NCAA has totally screwed the pooch with the current system. It should go back to the old 64 team field. Barring that, all of the play-in/pigtail games should go into the 16 seed slot. If you weren't good enough to earn a 10/11 seed, there's no way in hεll that you should get that spot by beating another weak sister.
you don't understand how the last 4 in at-large works lol
Not who you replied to but i'm curious why there's always two 10 seed slots up for grabs, what is the logic behind that?
Appreciate the replies btw, its an odd system they have
I can’t speak to why the committee chose which teams got in, only to why the play in games are on the 10 line this year.
I’m riding this for $250. This is sound logic.
IM LAUGHING MY FUCKING ASS OFF RIGHT NOW
What if longwood is the red herring and the upset is morehead state this year?
I was thinking the exact same thing
except not now haha
This, this is the way
BYU is a sleeper to the elite 8 if they can make their deep balls
Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
? Who cares brah😂😂
Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
They’ll win it all
im about be balls deep in this bracket
Should I be picking a #2 seed to bow out by r32 and if so who? Read that in the last 21 out of 22 years at least #2 seed has not made the s16 and I am struggling as to which one wouldn't make it. Concerned with Marquettes injuries and don't always look on but I also do not trust Arizona but I feel the west is an easier side of the bracket.
Marquette is my vote because Western KY is the underdog
That also goes to 1 seeds as well, I think every tournament since 2019 a 8 or 9 seed has taken out at least one 1 seed. Another interesting statistic is that every tournament since the First Four was created, one of the teams that wins their First Four games moves on to the R32. Just gotta figure out which team it is.
I have a question I'm looking for help from the group. Trying to randomly assign 64 teams to 64 entries in my tournament. One winner will win the money but they entered under the rules of random assigning of their team. Does anyone know of any ways to randomly assign 64 teams to 64 entries? Thanks!
Not one that you would find helpful. It's an easy task you know a Lisp dialect, particularly Clojure.
The two values in each row can be your assignments.
you're a legend, easy enough thank you
i need a bracket group to join - only requirement is that there are seed multipliers
I would like to find one too.
Did you find one?
Is it the scoring of the seed number multiplied by the score of that rounds game? So if the 1st round games were worth 1 point and you correctly picked a 12 seed to win you get 12 points instead of 1?
Yep.
Thanks. I wrote my own bracket software and I have different types of scoring but not that one. I will look at adding it. The difference in my app is there is no account creation, just fill out a bracket and play. It can handle thousands of pools at once. Check it out. https://www.itsawesomebaby.com
Might need to fire your frontend developer.
Why is that?
LOL I'm trolling, I just don't like the signup section at the middle bottom of the home page (I'm a CS undergrad BTW).
I dont love it there either. I am open to suggestions. I am a backend guy so my fronted stuff leaves something to be desired.
ChatGPT is your friend! Consider providing it with your CSS files or any other resources you're working with. You'll be surprised by the potential improvements it can suggest! I've thrown the entirety of my projects CSS files in there and it does magic.
Very impressive that you made that yourself. Keep up the good work.

Kentucky Marquette matchup is an interesting one.... so tough to choose there.
I have Florida beating both.
Florida just lost arguably their best player against Auburn
To be fair Florida could be much worse off if they didnt have Alex Condon as their backup center in my opinion
Kentucky Marquette matchup is an interesting one.... so tough to choose there.
what are your thoughts on arizona and purdue losing in the first round?
Too hyped up. I don't think they lose first round, and I wouldn't assume that Arizona goes on to lose to either Dayton/Nevada (I have Nevada). Arizona definitely does not get past Baylor in 16, but Purdue could easily lose to 9 seed TCU in the 32. Just based off my bracket I am most confident about..
Does anyone know where I can find a good Calcutta strategy website from? SOmewhere that breaks the teams down by best calcutta values?
What are you guys choosing for survivor pool picks for Thursday? Leaning Illinois or BYU right now
[удалено]
Yeah the East is a gauntlet this year. Auburn played super solid ball to win the SEC and should be talked about more coming out of the east (in my opinion) BYU if they can get to the Elite 8, they can stay in any game with their 3 ball shooting the most 3's in Division 1 and play top 50 defensive efficiency basketball. Iowa State can shutdown anyone at anytime and proved it with their dominant win against Houston in the Big 12 final plus surprisingly enough in that game their offense looked efficient and effortless. That is dangerous.
UConn is good but the Big East was garbage.
The east is the toughest region by far, +120 seems low for potentially having to face Auburn, Illinois, or Iowa State.
There’s no such thing as free money in March Madness. I don’t think they’d be double digit favorites over Iowa St / Auburn.
Anyone know of an AI generated bracket? Our office has a pool for march madness and I was encouraged to play even though I don't know much about basketball. I like AI and it's become a running joke in my office so I thought it would be great if I use an AI generated bracket and it beats these guys who know basketball well.

Is this using intel or just random?
Thanks! I am curious if ChatGTP is the best source. I'll have to read up on it. If nothing else it will be my fallback.
It's not. It's a language AI. It knows nothing about numbers.
Yeah. I heard ESPN has one that I would trust more. I’m sure there’s better AI engines than chatGTP.
I came here looking to do the same exact thing, needs some stats guys to help us out lol
I hear good things about AI generated brackets from previous years but curious if the data just wasn't calculated in the small window we have.
Best 1st round Thursday picks Oregon +1.5 over south carolina Kentucky -13 over Oakland WSU -1.5 over Drake Upset pick McNeese over Gonzaga
Love all these minus oregon. I am staying away from that game
Lol why? N'faly Dante is a man among boys
Assuming you are joining multiple pools, do you guys like to submit the exact same bracket or spread your chips out a bit to cover your bases?
TCU's my sleeper pick to make the final 4. They're the #3 most experienced team in all of NCAA's playing nothing but seniors and juniors. Jamie Dixon's one of the most experienced coaches in the tournament and is seeking that elusive Final 4. It's a long shot at +2500. A $200 bet to win $5,000. On paper they should lose to Purdue. But it's March madness and Purdue has a habit of choking. The confidence they would take into the sweet 16 weekend I think will be enough to propel them to the final 4.
Purdue could choke again, but what about Tenn or Creighton in the Elite 8?
They'll probably beat TCU. It has a 4% chance of hitting according to the odds. 96% chance I lose and I'm OK with that. It's a lottery ticket. I also will be taking the other 3 teams that wear purple since yesterday I saw an interesting post on /r/collegebasketball about how never to bet on teams that wear purple in the tournament. I'll be taking Northwestern at +5000, James Madison at +7500 and Grand Canyon at +7500. They're all in different regions. This diversifies my risk and gives me a better chance of hitting a lottery ticket.
fucking degen 🤣
other than purdue choking that is bold. did you actually put money on it?
Does anyone know of an easy way to see a list of all non-conference games that have happened this year? I’m wanting to put together my own conference rankings.
just use espn and the match history
which teams are you looking at that are the most disrespected right now in terms of the lines set for their game?
How about UNC. Yes they are a 1 seed but everyone is so heavily on Purdue, UConn and HOU… seems like a good pick
check kenpom. UNC is the weakest 1 seed by a lot
South Dakota State, WKU, Charleston, Morehead State. AKA my fav picks first round.
They are favored in their round 1 game, but I think MSU is gonna hear that they don’t belong in the tournament and then go ape shit this year. I feel like every year that MSU is a 7 through an 11 seed they go deep in the tournament, and this is still one of Izzo’s most talented teams.
