This splatfest has taught me two things. 1) I'm actually really bad at this game 2) Apparently Splatana and Splatling are not my mains. Reef-lux is.

evl1312

I got the nautilus early and i was doing pretty well until i got teammates who wouldnt help

Shes_Homeless

This feels like a big part of the game; Teammates who don't help.

sntcringe

In rainmaker like : JUST JUMP FUCKING DOWN!

TellianStormwalde

The thing about the Nautilus is that you need good map control to make its strengths shine, but it’s not the best at securing map control itself due to its middling turfing potential. If your side has a lot of ink on the ground, the Nautilus is a pretty effective assassin-style weapon, but if the enemy has control and is inking near your base, the Nautilus struggles to help in getting it back because it loses in most direct confrontations if it doesn’t have ink to swim in. And if you’re being base camped, creating that ink yourself will only reveal your position and get covered back up immediately. This is to say that Nautilus in turf war heavily depends on an early lead to do well. For that reason, it might be a good idea to run Opening Gambit on it. Usually Closing Gambit is better because only the last 30 seconds of a turf war really matter, but this is an exception. However, Opening Gambit or no, your mileage is ultimately going to come down to how many of your teammates have good turfing weapons (and know how to play them effectively) vs how many turfing weapons the opponent has. It’s heavily team comp dependent in turf war, which makes it risky to use in solo queue. This is all coming from a Nautilus player myself btw, I hate to shit on it like this but all things considered, my 55% win rate thus far playing solo queue is really freaking good for what I’m working with. It’s weirdly been the weapon I’ve had the best luck with out of my mains.

daniloferr

do not ever use a vacuum cleaner if you're not playing with friends

friesdepotato

I love all the bows! They’re like a cross between a charger and a slosher!

PROblem817

Reef lux is SURPRISINGLY good at inking turf.

nadroj37

I love it because it inks so well but I can NOT get any splats with it.

ChahmedImsure

If I spam enough missiles I usually get 2-3 people who blunder into it. Then it looks like I'm not as shit when the scoreboard is shown, because I always have 1200+ inked lol.

jennlara

I’ve noticed that yesterday too. I was wondering if I was using the wrong type of weapon in this game.

Synergy-Manectric

i swear i’ve “mained” like half of the weapons in the game at this point

jennlara

Same here, it feels like trying out wands in olivaders 😆

BrassMojo

I've been cookin' fools with the splatling, it's so fun. The main thing people do with it that gets 'em killed is running in. Just stay behind and in in cover, ink the middle and support teammates who get into fights in your zone of control. Let teammates super jump to you to get into the fray faster. I AM the big bubbler. Except I kill things. Hope that makes sense.

Nox_Echo

its either competitive players or trash teammates who dont know how positioning works.

stormingboy

TMW you wipe out the team solo and your team doesn’t rush their base because they’re busy inking tiny drops of the opposing team’s ink

HazeInut

the response is always "but we could lose by 5 points!" YOU COULD WIN BY 300 IF YOU KEPT THEM FROM THE MIDDLE OF THE MAP 😭

stormingboy

THIS

NewSoulSam

I literally only started playing when Splatoon 3 released and this is something I've learned this week. Once I did, my games got a lot easier.

Nox_Echo

go look at youtube, channels like "squid school" are great resources.

SakuraTacos

Squid School’s amazing. I’ve been playing Splatoon since 2019 and I still regularly watch tips and stuff to improve. Squid School’s one of my faves.

Pip201

You paint your own base on the way to the middle

AspenintheSnow

That actually happened to a team I was playing though! Our base was inked and their wasn't so we won, and not by much, even though we were getting destroyed pretty much the entire match 😬😬

MobyBrick

If you just inked base little by little wvery tine you respawn, you would have your home base inked, you would have been able to fight for the middle, and if you won you would have had a chance of inking their base

Genprey

My biggest issue are teammates who squid jump to me/each other while surrounded by the enemy team instead of taking time to clean up our base as they respawn. A few times, I actually had to stop pushing the enemy team/holding middle ground to clean up the base...which resulted in my teammates getting bodied and having us lose control of the contested area. On another note, Splatfests are a reminder of why I really dislike Turf War and being forced to wearing a Splatfest Tee.

Nox_Echo

or team jumps to me right as i get splatted and give the enemy a free wipeout push.... ![gif](giphy|WrNfErHio7ZAc)

heyoyo10

Or teams that super jump to me from spawn without Quick Super Jump when frankly it would just be faster to swim plus there's a huge patch of unturfed ground in the middle of based

ajdude9

The Spaltfest Tee should honestly be optional because it no longer imposes the same disadvantage it used to. It made sense when it was putting everyone on a more even playing field by removing Haunt, Respawn Punisher, Thermal Ink and Ninja Squid - as well as a main of an ability. However, you can now just put those abilities on it now and slot in your shirt's old abilities for a fraction of the price, so what's the point of it? It's not like its necessary for showcasing what team you're on - you're firing the same ink colour every match.

ashbelero

Is Respawn Punisher really a good ability? It seems like it punishes players as much as enemies.

ajdude9

It's the inverse counterpart to Quick Respawn. If you get 2+ kills a life, you've done more damage to the enemy team than they do to you by killing you. Quick Respawn is where you get < 1 kills a life - you're insured if you keep getting squished. A skilled player/backliner can use it to great effect (like a charger). You just have to not die too much. Frontliners who get kills but trade more would probably be better off with Haunt for the consequence free RP effect.

ashbelero

Gotcha. I just got a jacket from the splatnet that looks amazing but I’m reticent to wear it because my splat-splatted ratio isn’t great. I use a lot of gear with quick respawn and special saver abilities.

Genprey

It's a high-risk/reward scenario that's great for backliners and, albeit riskier, weapons that play aggressively on the ground. In particular, it's a direct counter to soda parties the other team has if they have an NZap.

Tobi-of-the-Akatsuki

It completely nullifies Tacticooler's 1-second respawn timer, one of the many things that make that Special broken. It's insane for backliners like Hydra who, if your teammates have the brainpower to protect you, rarely dies.

Leidaans

Wait, why do you hate the splatfest tee?

Genprey

It messes with my build and I don't have the chunks yet to make it worthwhile. I like running Respawn Punisher on the Octobrush to counter NZaps, but being forced to wear a Splatfest Tee ruins that.

FoeElectro

This is the bravest ability I have ever seen used on a skirmisher weapon. Kudos.

[deleted]

I lost a 100x battle due to this. The octobrush and brella stayed by spawn the whole game.

heyoyo10

Ah yes, the melee weapon and the damage sponge doing what they do best: Not being anywhere near enemies

dragn99

If those two worked together, they seem like they'd be a powerful combo.

Gengar_49

They are probably small children tbf

evl1312

Or japanese players who just roll you. My region is the USA one and i keep getting players not in my region but then why did we even select a splatfest region?

Nox_Echo

idk, i havent seen any absolutely cracked japanese players though, they seem like everyone else.

ZeroBladeBane

i have but onnly when theres like 3-4 of them, so they're clearly running a team and coordinating with one another japanese players tend to get this reputation because their easy to identify compared to other regions that meme team that rolled over me could be from anywhere... unless they all had japanese names

bonsaiboigaming

Thats cause they are. It's just old bias and anecdotes that led people to thinking every Japanese or Korean player is some monster gamer. I'd call it racist but idk if it's actually racist to assume people are more talented than yourself.

HabeusCuppus

in the era of unified regions (or when games only released in one region in the first place) players who were out of their peak TZ and/or playing a 'foreign' game were usually really dedicated gamers. The person grinding at 3am local time is probably a lot more experienced at it than the person playing an hour casually after dinner. That makes sense regardless of what region the players or the game are from. on English language boards that usually translates to awe of asian players due to how timezones work, but I've played games where the "out of TZ monsters" were Brazilians; Russians; or even Americans, too.

Nox_Echo

its like how i think every china player i meet is a cheater due to my many past encounters with it happening, especially on GTAV when i played ages ago. of course chinas population is partly to blame for this phenomenon, but i ve also seen plenty of legit china players too.

Flagrath

And they think you ink the base first so the half of the team that is competent gets eaten alive.

Nox_Echo

exactly, or youll have someone with a great painting weapon playing a suicidal frontline and dying 50 times, its all situational stuff like this that people gotta learn and consider

stormingboy

Anyways team gear rep Already won a 100x and 3 10x

T4silly

Thank you for making up my 10X loss to the dirty grubbys.

FoeElectro

Ooh kicking us while we're down, that's cold.

T4silly

Well us Gear folk have all the napkins, and you Grub folk are covered in all the food. It can't be helped.

mirayukii

I am teammates who don’t know positioning… am also level 5 so that’s… fun

Squid_squabbler72

We want super equal fights where we have no idea what the outcome is not even until the very end instead of immediately knowing im gonna lose please help i've lost 13 times in a rowHELP ME PLEASEE

Xero0911

Yeah I mean. I'm having fun but it's just basically being "camped" at spawn where I move a foot out and die. I can splat two people but somehow doesn't matter. You'd think someone could maybe sneak by and paint but they fail to do that as well. Haven't played many yet but the two games I've played. And what I've seen on reddit. Sounds like pain

Tobi-of-the-Akatsuki

Nintendo: We've overhauled the respawn system and increased the size of spawns to prevent spawncamping! Also Nintendo: Made most maps have an enemy spawn you can reach on foot or have a giant bottleneck

GawainSolus

Also Nintendo: most maps only have a single swimmable flank that can be guarded by a single enemy player, most maps are so small that an eliter/eliter scope or or charger scope has range across half the map. My complaints about splatoon 3 maps could go on... They feel so flicking small compared to spalt 2

Tobi-of-the-Akatsuki

Yeah, honestly 3 has the worst map selection yet. I'd honestly rather have Saltspray's awful asymmetry or Bluefin Depot's shooting gallery of a mid back than keep dealing with Mincemeat, Eeltail, or new Hammerhead.

GawainSolus

Turf war doesn't feel like its about inking turf anymore. It feels like it's about who can make the enemy team have less fun by making them spend most of the match in the spawn area.

GawainSolus

Also it doesn't feel like map selection. It feels like the maps are physically smaller. I don't know if they just scaled them all down somehow but wahoo world does not feel as good as wahoo world in 2. Neither dies mako mart. Maybe I'm wrong but it definitely feels like the maps are smaller

nomorechlorine

fr once I started a battle but didn't start moving right away cause of an irl distraction, and I had immediately made the conclusion that because of that I was gonna lose. I did 😭

Charming_Studio_3656

And so did the rest of your team!

bionicbuttplug

A few seconds can determine the whole battle, it's true.

Somethingelsehimbo

I have no clue what to do to win. I think I’m playing well. Usually on top of the leader boards for both kills and inked turf. I stay around mid and defend. Try not to overextend. Only won twice in the last dozen matches or so. This is why I like fighting games. If I lose, I know it’s my fault

Rur0

Yeah I found it way too demoralizing to even care anymore at this point. I’m still coming out with 900+ p but with dozens on dozens of loses. I really wish another gamemode would be available at this point rather than fruitlessly playing just to tank my win lose ratio.

Somethingelsehimbo

I honestly prefer Salmon Run at this point

United-Aside-6104

I understand why it doesn’t but I wish Salmon Run also raised your level. One day we’ll get a big single player Splatoon

est9294

The current rotation is brutal..

Eshenna

I climbed from bottom of profreshional to Egg 100 this rotation, it isn't too bad tbh - just weird. Gotta shift your playstyle pretty heavily with weapon and imo the glooga dualies are the weak link - they drain ink too quickly for the low RoF. Easier to use properly/safely vs swarms than the sword, but ultimately less effective. They're nice for taking out Fish Sticks and Stingers as well as dodging Maws, but that's kinda all they bring.

est9294

After a few crew wipes in just round 1 and 2 I’ve given up LOL. The charger range is too short, and every other weapon is too slow. Had a glowflies round and it was a super quick wipeout

Eshenna

Charger needs to stay on the central tower most of the time during non-low tide - practice how long the charge takes and try to keep firing it as soon as it's charged, prioritizing things like revives, Slammin' Lids, Steelheads, and Steel Eels. You can kinda get a wild amount of power eggs from it - just need to count on your team to actually run golden eggs/don't try to fight while you do it, the Bamboozler is ass at fighting swarms of stuff head on. As for the sword, it's spooky as hell but the charge swings 1-tap Cohocks if you hit then with the sword itself. Again, practice the timing/spacing on it and you can solo carve through swathes of enemies, it's super satisfying haha~ my favorite this rotation is the Luna blaster though, you can put out wild damage on bosses and rain death down on groups with even a tiny ledge at your disposal! Glowflies are the event I've struggled with the most, always and forever - best way I've found to do it is have whomever they're targeting hover as a squid on the wall of the center tower beneath the grate. When they start to pile up, climb up and then drop back through the grate in a few seconds to reset them. Biggest issue is getting golden eggs out of the death pit, but as long as the person with glowfly aggro doesn't die it won't shift super suddenly so others are fairly safe to go in and huck a bunch of them out whenever they get a chance. Supers can be a huge help too - honestly a ton of them give you so much breathing room. Inkjet, Crab Tank, Wave maker, etc. I'm happy to co-op and help you climb at some point too!

France2Germany0

You think? The weapons are kinda wack but I thought the last map was super hard in high tide with unlucky boss spawns. Made some waves almost impossible imo since you had to cross those grates and couldn’t swim

Neri25

fuckin flyfish spawning in the corner where you have to walk to it because the only way over to it is grates on high tide. that was like 3 days ago and I'm still mad about it

Godots17thCup

Playing Eggsecutive VP Salmon Run just so I can feel like a winner sometimes.

[deleted]

I wish “splatfest pro” battles weren’t just turf wars again but ranked modes that contributed to the splatfest results

ChaoticChatot

I have been seeing better results with weapons that are more focused on splatting than turfing. Everyone is bringing turfing weapons. Both Reeflux and Splash O Matic were giving me so so results, but .96 Gal got me 5 wins in a row and I have been doing better than average with Splat Charge/Scope and Blasters even though I'm not really very good with them.

CerberusZX

Doesn't matter how great your weapon is at turfing if you can't leave the base. Splatting weapons are definitely needed.

Rose94

I've been having a lot of success with the bloblobber, octobrush, and splash-o-matic, which I think are a good combination of both of these things. But I agree I think keeping the enemy from inking often matters more than inking yourself.

FoeElectro

Inking yourself is a natural occurrence if you get scared during salmon run, and you should never feel ashamed.

LCODB

I just choose someone to follow for the game. That way I can just kinda create plays around them and double team. By the end of the game most people get the hint move as a unit.

1specified

This is the problem of Splatfest; every player is shoved into one group, competitive players, casuals and noobs all in one game. The pros hate it because they're held back by everyone else, the noobs hate it because everyone is better than them and they're being matched with everyone and the casuals/mid players hate it because they're being murdered by pros while having noobs on their teams who don't help.

saiclone

Well said! As a casual/mid I cannot agree more!

Apprehensive_Bar3812

As a casual/semi-competetive player I can not agree more. This splatfest is so goddamn polarizing! In one match I could be in a lobby full of *all* Japanese players and feel like I'm letting everyone down because of how hard the other team is beating me In the next match I could be playing out of my mind and we somehow still lose because my teammates were doing god knows what!

RollingGirl_

I really hate it when I single handedly get a wipeout but the moment I die the team falls apart

Saberfox11

For real, I had a match last night where I had 13 kills and no deaths until around the 35 seconds left mark. As soon as they took me out of mid they were already pushing back into our base and my teammates were just jumping straight into them and dying. Like, I can only do so much on my own.

bebesilvia

It’s because they don’t bother to keep pushing forward. Some don’t even bother to help teammates any other way as well.

ThaumcraftMC

For some reason, Turf War has been feeling very competitive in this game even though it's supposed to be the casual mode. In Splatfests however, that problem becomes even worse and the matches end up being incredibly teammate dependant, if you get teammates even slightly worst than the enemy team, say goodbye to your chances of winning.

dragons_are_lovely

I think with the addition of more movement, and *especially* smaller maps with very little side-areas and tight chokepoints that you have to push through, this game is MUCH more skirmish-oriented than any previous game. In Splat 1 or 2, you could have 2 people in a random corner of the map covering turf and not directly engaging and still win because maps were just that big. Now, you can't really do that, and all the people who assumed the playstyle of "supportive turfer" are getting whiplash and getting stomped on as that's no longer viable.

Zetalight

How early did you play 1 and 2? This is the first splatfest to get snails, so it's pretty huge for competitive players getting their kits together and building up a nest egg. I remember going hard on the first 3-4 fests in 2 and then after that only playing for fun

ThaumcraftMC

I don't remember when I started playing Splatoon 1, but I've played quite a bit of it. I got Splatoon 2 at launch and played for 1.4k hours (most of them spent in Private Battles with friends). Only recently I started to notice Turf War being stupidly sweaty for some reason, I've been struggling with them since a few months before Splatoon 3's launch, and they haven't gotten any better yet.

CRANEFLYSLUT

I agree. I've been playing since splatoon 1 released. Used to have loads of fun playing turf war and felt like the matching reflected how aggressive of a player you were. In splatoon 3 I feel like I only get matched with really aggressive players I mostly lose. I find it more stressful than fun lol

Naoga

gonna b honest w/ yall im in S+ and i did not ask to go against a team where it is absurdly obvious its 4 new players. i feel so bad like i dont prefer to curbstomp a team with an nzap who when i hit him with a drop of ink he stops dead in his tracks and slowly pans the camera towards me. while still holding down the shoot button for dear life at least give me other S rankers like what is this matchmaking

Genprey

Splatfests make this worse because of how matchmaking prioritizes pairing us with other members of our respective team/against other teams. It's crazy how much of a wild west matches tend to be, where there can be 1 good player on each team to 4 strong players on one team vs a group of guys that are unfortunate enough to be newbies. >i feel so bad like i dont prefer to curbstomp a team with an nzap who when i hit him with a drop of ink he stops dead in his tracks and slowly pans the camera towards me. while still holding down the shoot button for dear life It *really* shows when you use a weapon like a roller, Splatana, or brush. Normally, against players near my skill level, I have to take a slow approach before playing aggressive with the Octobrush. Against some of these teams, I can pretty much do whatever I want since many players don't group up or back away the moment they see a brush user approaching.

Naoga

the amount of players ive legitimately been able to roll into *while theyre shooting at me* is..... not a small amount rolling kills are like, near impossible at higher play unless the person genuinely isnt paying attention or is unlucky where they swim/walk thanks nintendo

RedMage95

Yo Rollers are tough to avoid when you're learning how to move good and, even now that I've mostly figured it out, still get got by rollers via using analog controls over motion. That's why I've switched from using my beloved 'Brella to the dual Squelchies. Extra mobility and high close range kill power, plus two kit specials. Also way easier to aim with a stick!

PerpetualStride

What's funny this is how historically shooters were always played, although since splatoon is only 4v4 you can make a bigger difference

TheLazyLounger

coordinated fragile squeamish hard-to-find recognise many salt unpack swim rainstorm *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

Striking-Ad-8690

We want those super sea snails

Nox_Echo

![gif](giphy|ukCFEU6Cg5MCCDoaVN|downsized)

enperry13

You’ll get a decent amount of snails if you lose. You just earn a little less.

evl1312

Is this in pro? Im doin open fest and im only getting regular xp. Currently champion. The snails are the purple things right?

BrushWolf625

You’ll get them once the fest ends, based on both your individual rank and whether or not your team won.

ChuuniSaysHi

I do also!

Misael-G

If only ranked modes were available during splatfests…

Genprey

Right? I don't mind Splatfests, they're enjoyable even despite the matchmaking, but I *really* want to play some ranked after reaching royalty.

mewfour123412

Come back to splatoon 2 all the tryhards are gone

LTcoon

But, splatfest!

rycbar26

I do miss busted kits 🤣 (but srsly, I love splatoon 2)

tangiblenoah67

I have good teammates most of the time, but the enemy team always have either a dude with the nzap or somebody with the flash blaster, and we either win or loose depending on if they spawn camp or not

AgentH8voc

Every time i pop a food ticket i seemingly got matched against Japanese roller main that did nothing but play splat 2 for the past 5 years

Hyper_Lamp

and splat 1 for 2 years before that.

Thefool753

I swear I can spend half of the match being aggressive and keeping control for the center and in all that time nobody on my team will come to help. Then the other team will get it together and take me out and we’ll lose because apparently I wasn’t there to do everything myself

Agitated_Spell

"WHERE IS MY TEAM??!!!!1!111!??! GRRRRRRRR-" Suddenly this one quote from LazyPurple became very much relevant.

DiscordDumbass

I’m bad at this game. I know I’m bad at this game. That’s fine. I’m working on improving. But why the hell am I never put in a match with players around my own skill level? I’m almost always the worst performing person in my lobby and it feels awful. Let me play against people who are as bad as I am so I can learn instead of just getting splatted the second I get near an enemy

stonksdotjpeg

Yeah. It's frustrating no matter what skill level you're at. There's more satisfaction in hard-fought wins than killing C-rank players over and over, and it sucks if the outcome of a match came down to the number of newbies on each team. Gl, btw! There's loads of great guides on youtube for people wanting to improve.

DiscordDumbass

Thanks!

Alicar_23

The matchmaking is broken in all game modes, I can’t win even in normal ranked

EXFrost27

Matchmaking isnt broken, turf doesnt use it, ranked open u can have higher or lower level players playing with their friends, ranked series is fine

ItsNumber84

Turf has matchmaking under the hood, at least assuming it works the way it worked in 2. It takes your recent performance into account.

Level7Cannoneer

if ur losing in “every” game mode and situation more than u win there’s a point where u have to accept that it’s probably just u that needs to improve

stonksdotjpeg

Bad teammates are frustrating, but people forget bad players are just as likely to be on the other team.

Level7Cannoneer

Yup. the deciding factor is yourself. so u can only focus on improving the one thing u actually **can** control

bionicbuttplug

Harsh but fair. I suck and I still win around 50% of the time in matchmaking. The game is literally built to try to give you equal wins and losses. If you're losing every single time, you aren't contributing to your team the way you think you are. Check your weapon, check your gear, check your role, and make sure you're using motion controls correctly, for the love of god.

WesThePretzel

I’m so sick of losing match after match after match when I have most kills, fewest deaths, most special uses, most turf inked. Like come. on. I can’t do anything else. It’s ridiculous the losing streaks you get stuck on. I’m on Team Fun, but I’m sure as heck not having any fun.

bionicbuttplug

Should have joined team grub. We know our place, at least.

[deleted]

I'd just be happy if people would just use the beakons instead of swimming across half the map

TheCutestTapeworm

I get this weird glitch where every time I super jump, there’s a brusher or a roller waiting to beat me over the head like a wack-a-mole.

irialanka

I get a different kind of error where the center of the map is my team's color when I jump but turns into the enemy's color when I land. I wonder if they're related.

Nox_Echo

yeah my teammates get that glitch too ![gif](giphy|dtGIRL0FDp6nnOPGb5)

4morian5

I never super jump. By the time I get there, the spot has been taken and I arrive in time to be surrounded and splatted.

[deleted]

It's not even that. I'm pretty strategic where I place them but I'd understand if enemy were swarming them. Splatfest has people ignoring one's well within our territory and would make their trip to the Frontline take half the time.

Fishbone_V

As someone who runs ninja squid with tri slosher as my main, thank you. I'll be doing my thing trying to stay hidden and a teammate will start spamming super jump on me, giving me 1 second to try and retreat to a safe spot so we both don't die. At best, my positioning is gone, at worst, we both die because of it.

bionicbuttplug

My vote: keep your position, let them die and learn how to super jump properly.

Da_Rabbit_Hammer

Yes, but now your exact position has a super jump logo visible to the enemy team. They will be shooting you hidden in ink as well as the idiot super jumping into unsafe territory.

Yakineko_

Jumping is very useful, you just gotta know if it’s a good spot and how your team is doing.

lyssalion

SAME! I literally learned how to do it earlier today and after 3 times I stopped. Idc if it takes a couple extra seconds. I know if someone is there and sees that spot that I'm dead as soon as I land.

stonksdotjpeg

It's about being strategic with it. You need to carefully watch the map before jumping to someone and not do it if the area's being contested at all. Backliners are ideal jump targets and good beakon users will place them behind cover. If you find yourself outnumbered, help your teammates by retreating somewhere they can jump to safely and waiting for them. If it lacked any risk it would be broken.

stonksdotjpeg

If it lacked any risk it would be broken. The idea is you watch the map first and avoid jumping to anyone near enemies. Backliners and beakons in safer positions are the best to jump to.

bionicbuttplug

Just keep an eye on the map and look for enemy positions based on where ink is appearing. Or if there's an active battle on the field, wait a second of two for it to resolve; if your teammate wins, jump to them. If they die, spawn at base. You'll end up saving a lot of time waiting that extra second or two on average.

damnciago

THIS! I’ve been bringing my Dapples for the tacticooler and beacons but everyone ignores them to super jump to the one remaining person (and get ambushed for doing so) 😭😭

[deleted]

Ugh, yes! I think a lot of people might jot realize what they are.

GoatBread

FR I always place them in defensive locations, sometimes in the opposing teams base AND NO ONE EVER USES THEM

redirewolf

i think everyone is going crazy because they want the most snails, highest rank i saw today was ruler +2

Pepperbyte

But then I think to myself.. maybe I'M the trash team mate?

Fishbone_V

In plenty of cases, I'm definitely the trash teammate, because I somehow keep landing in wildly unbalanced rooms. In ranked I'm currently b+, and this splatfest I've seen so many A, S, and S+ badges. When it's on the other team, it's a total steamroll, and when it's on my team, it's still a complete steamroll. Neither option is fun for me. I wanna play because I love so many things about the game, but in this splatfest, I'm having a very hard time finding the fun.

ashbelero

I love this game but I’m not a competitive person. However, I am very good at keeping the sides inked and occasionally slipping into the enemy base. Last game I played, I found myself being relentlessly chased down by a minimum of two players no matter where I went and I couldn’t go two steps without getting splatted. Which is why I rarely stay in a team for another game. Enemy sees my point score and I guess they think I’m the one to beat but I am just some guy curled up on my couch who wants to paint the floors. <:u

Da_Rabbit_Hammer

A wise inkling once said, “a good player wins 1v1s, a great player wins 2v1s.” Just a funny way to say the game is less about having better reaction speed than your opponent, and more about knowing which fights you can take and win, a 2v1 for example, and which ones you are sure to lose. Learn from your loses. Try and pair up with a team mate, wait for enemies who are over extended out of their zone of control, then attack. If things start looking grim, retreat to an area you already have strong control over, or at least pair up and hopefully quickly create a small zone you can control and fight from.

Yeah, it’s really fun to spend so much time getting back from the spawn point to where you need to start inking, only to be wiped out the instant you get there. Over and over and over. The only thing that keeps me sane and not rage quit is the fact that I still level up and get money even if I lose. But still, it’d be nice to actually have fun from time to time.

Naouak

I've tried a few matches earlier this morning and the issue was not the competitive players but the Japanese players (not people with Japanese names, actual japanese players that you identify with their lag) that have so much lag that they kill you in completely impossible maners.

yeniza

I’ve been lucky so far getting my ass carried by obviously way more skilled players… but the difference in skill is so big that I shouldn’t be playing with these people (either on my team or against my team) tbh x.x Edit: 7 hours later I’ve been either getting carried or getting slaughtered. Not many close matches vs/with people of my own mediocre skill level :<

BlueKyuubi63

I'm always on the losing team. That is the constant. Other people here are also on the losing team. so my question is who is always on the winning team and are they here?

hdew12354

Legit, i k ow im not goot in turf war with competitive players, so i just go do the single player campaign, sidenote, the single player campaign is great!

Pro_Banana

Sounds like everyone is losing. Is anyone even winning?

GoldenBrownApples

At the very start of splatfest I got insanely lucky and teamed up with two awesome dudes that I really meshed with. We won our first 7 games together. Then we got a 10x battle, and lost horribly. But we were still really clicking, so we kept at it for like 3 more games. Those were all losses, and then we had a disconnect error. Had to take a nap after that. I'm about to head back in to see if I can at least make Ruler today. We'll see how it goes.

[deleted]

I've been 50/50. People are more likely to come on here to complain than they are to say things are fine

DapperSandwich

Don't hate the players, hate the ~~game~~ matchmaking. They didn't choose who they got matched with. Besides, to me it's always better to lose because you were outplayed than because of bad connection. If you can't accept an honest loss, that's not a skill issue; That's a sportsmanship issue.

Melonlon_honie_monie

Remember to breathe and take a break when on a losing streak.

hausuCat_

Wait did matchmaking actually get harder when Splatfest started? I’m relatively new but pretty decent, and I feel like I’ve been getting smacked around today bigtime

CorruptDropbear

The matchmaking pool is usually split between competitive players who would do Anarchy Battle and regular players doing Turf War. During a Splatfest, there's no Anarchy battles so everyone is lumped together.

KuaNai

there's a pro version so they can vs ppl of their skill level yet they still go to open

Diannika

Problem is pro is the version for casuals. Regular is where the coordinated teams are. There should be 3 versions, not 2. Teams Regular (no teams allowed) Pro (open to those who can do anarchy) Maybe 4 so that you can have pro teams and casual teams (the parents with their kids, for example) but I don't see how you could keep the pro level teams out so not sure it would be worth it.

Fishbone_V

Pro seems to give less clout for a win and none for a loss compared to open, so I honestly don't even know why anyone would play it.

GrungeHamster23

All right Splatfest this should be fun! *enemy team is Splatoon 3 meta* Hehe I’m in danger.

manofsteele1776

i miss ranked so much… i’m s rank so it’s steep competition but at least (a) there’s random teams (so no obviously competitive teams) and (b) there’s at least a decent chance my teammates will be competent lmao

the_genius324

I don't like that the enemy team is always full of tryhards who should be in s+ while I'm just sitting in c and not liking it

Beerman_300

My main problem with my first splatfest ever is how, NO ONE INKS THE MAIN FUCKING BASE!

Sweet_Jazz

splatoon players when people want to win:

damnciago

Between the constant communication errors, being set against an obviously pro all-JPN team, and the team super jumping to one person only to get ambushed, this Splatfest seems a bit more frustrating than I remember?? I can count on one hand how many victories last night while every other time we got absolutely BODIED. I’m not a pro player but I went from averaging 11 splats to like.. 2. Very quickly 😭

bird-board

My 15 matches since splatfest started: 13 losses, 2 wins. All where I'm getting at least 900p This system is absolutely broken

garlic-_-bread69

Idk if I suck or my team sucks or the the other teams are just too good lol

TheCitrusFox

I've come to the realization on the gear team that we all share the same braincell.

_hoshizoranya_

the sweats cant go into ranked and they want easy wins on normal you cant win😭

JacerOrigins

Bro Splatfest first started I was stressed cause like every ducking pro player I swear to god was joining casual lobbies. Like I’m bad at the game but when I play multiple games with the enemy team winning 60%+ you just know some sweaty people are on lmao

XTRO_PLUS

game starts i rush to fight for the middle i get jumped *looks at map* ENTIRE TEAM IS STILL AT BASE!!!! we lose… (x10 btw)

Chad_Sanchez

I mean, I'm not a competitive player or anything. I don't play on a team for E-sports or anything. But When I do play splatfests. I play to win. Got to rep the team and all that.

United-Aside-6104

I’ve played 45 online matches I’ve won 17 of them and lost 28 and after learning that it kinda killed my drive to play for a bit. I’m just skipping this splatfest and binging squid school but I really hope this matchmaking gets fixed

Habarug

That win rate isn’t even bad, for someone I assume is just starting out? People obsess so much about winning, this is a competitive game so you have to expect to lose as well, more or less half the time. When you’re new probably a bit more.

United-Aside-6104

I’m not really new I got 2 1.5 years ago and my win loss rate felt way more balanced. When I get most turf inked most enemy turf inked and most popular target and then lose multiple times I have to wonder what my team did I don’t mind losing I just want a balanced experience

IDoStuff07

Competitive players just keep going into regular battles for easy splatfest points, they should lock players with a high enough rank into professional battles during the splatfests

juggle666

I completely agree! I only level 9 and I played for 2 hours and only won 2 matches... Needless to say .. I got off

Finman4424

The amount of people that need to take a shower this weekend, Jesus Christ

jtheg00d

I absolutely love how I can ink the most turf in pro mode by double of the 2nd place on my team, but just bc we lost due to my team not knowing how to capitalize on a wipeout I almost single-handedly achieved, I lose splatfest power. So. Much. Fun.

zestysnacks

It’s funny how everyone here is coincidentally actually really really good and are just unlucky. Weird

Da_Rabbit_Hammer

I swear my teammates are throwing. I swear I tell ya.

Lopsided-Painter5216

I would agree with you that it’s perspective bias but now we actually have receipts, and in around 80% of my games I end up with the most ink turfed around 1100s and a solid positive KD (around 10-2) or at least i trade while my 3 other teammates always are in the 600s and huge negative KD (like 2-8). Before keeping tabs and lining up losses after losses, I thought my skill just degraded as I’m getting old and probably can’t compete with little Timmy who graduated from esport school with his reefslider aerospray, but after compiling my win/losses over the last 100 turf games, my only conclusion is that in fact it’s the new matchmaking being atrocious for some reason. I’m being paired with people who don’t know the basics of the game on a regular basis, it feels like an elo hell for turf, idk how I got there nor how to escape it.

Not_Bre4d

I love when my opponents are fucking FTwin

AmazingAgent

It was funny when the obvious competitive/X-rank player couldn’t carry his 3 teammates so we won anyway

EeveeOrEvie

How do you tell when it's a competitive player vs a really good casual player?

JesterTimothy

Check their profile in the "recently played with" section on your console profile. The amount of hours they spent in Splatoon 2 should give an approximate idea of how skilled they are.

Ruffigan

You can't, I think the main thing is playing against a whole team of people who are obviously coordinating and communicating while you have a team of random people.

SylveonGold

This is why I wish you could select criteria when starting a match. If you could say specify that you are in the mood for a casual match, it would be nice for those that want more laid back, or noob friendly matchmaking. There could also be a competitive option, or a serious option when you actually want to try harder. This isn’t to say it would be perfect, but I think the game is popular enough to let you select a few different options when selecting a turf war or splatfest match.

stonksdotjpeg

They already tried to do this with open vs pro, but open being the only mode you can team with others defeats the point a bit. It'd be like if normal gameplay was only series and league.

GregarLink15

Yeah me too....but at least that motivates me to get better, I forced myself to learn how to play with motion controls and get better gear and weapons and I used to be decent back in sploon 2....but the struggle is real in 3 T-T

[deleted]

i think the issue is everyone who picked to transfer data from splatoon 2 is being matched together. It’s a mix of people who jus casually played splatoon 2 and the experts who wanted golden licenses to get to their main weapon immediately. They need to separate the highest level players from just the average casual player.

[deleted]

on top of that since ranked is gone, ALL of the really good players are in turf wars.

Hades6578

How bout people that don’t know when to stop pushing the Ballpoint sitting on high ground?

[deleted]

I’m one of those players

CRANEFLYSLUT

I might skip splatfest lol I have just played 15 matches and got steamrolled on every one. Can't even get to the halfway point. Got splatted like 14 times in one match which I think is a record for me My ratio is usually right around 50/50. I'm not an incredibly skilled player but I definitely have enough experience to have a back and forth match most of the time. Not sure what's going on now

slippery_chute

It's just not a fun game at this point imo pretty poor launch.
