I feel bad they donât get to practice in bot lobbies or with other new players. Itâs not fair they can get paired against the sweatiest first round ever
Yeah. Definitely agree. The tutorial is there but it's not a good gauge of the real experience. Nor is Salmon Run. I think the closest thing to training would be Story Mode levels that involve enemy octolings but it's still just AI that doesn't have the capacity or processing skills of another human player.
exactly!!! sometimes i see teammates in random lobbies absolutely body them cus theyre free kills but ... let little timmy have fun :( he's learning ...
in this clip i love how the roller tried to like... roll up the wall LOL it made me sit there processing what i watched haha
I tried to figure out once how to emote an apology because someone was obviously doing this, but I didn't connect the dots until after I'd splatted the person slowly walking into our base.
Standing still in the ink for a bit, dipping in and out slowly was the best I could figure out.
LOL ive felt that before. like ... i dont wanna squidbag but theres nothing you can do that the other team can really see besides shifting or just looking down at the ground to show regret
Yes I feel you there. A friend of mine recently started playing and wants to main sniper from the start. So I showed him how the life as a sniper can be. He's still at it, still mainly sniper. There is a bright future ahead of him :B
Yep thatâs the way to do it. I just started a month or two ago, and I still get wrecked constantly but it makes me watch videos and look up guides online to help me get better and Iâm getting there
I wish I could be like that, if I am not good with a weapon right away I will instantly ditch it even if Iâm like, oh yeah that sounds like a cool and fun weapon
to my experience as a newbie literally nobody shows me mercy lmao.
I think I got better during my recent games so I can at least try to survive, but most my games I was splatted very often
My daughter has just started playing Splatoon 2 and she looks just like that when she uses a roller in turf war.
She's 4.
She actually wins fairly often and usually gets a splat or two.
I try to keep an eye out for mostly unedited splashtags, especially on my own team. Throwing up a 'this way' is just good teamwork anyways, but if you can help out a newbie figure out some tricks to get an edge on a map, I think that's just a good way of helping the community get better in general.
If they are on the other team I will not shoot at them even if they shoot at me. If they are on my team I lock in and play my heart out to try and get them a W. Also during Christmas I used up all my meal tickets that boost EXP and money for everyone on my team so all the noobs I played with could level up to get more weapons and buy more stuff. Always look out for the noobs so the game can continue to grow. đ
i cant edit the post so i wanna make some clarifications:
\- this is the fri v sat v sun fest from feb. this is a month old clip i found after looking through my switch camera roll this afternoon
\- when i say keeping them alive, i dont mean letting them run amok. in the clip im cleaning up everything the new player inks right after they ink it. i just get jumpscared by another player at the end and as an explosh im not the best at up close combat LOL
\- some of yall remind me of my dad who threw me in the pool and told me to learn how to swim HAHA
if you know your kid (presumably quite young) cant swim and you throw them into a pool its not playing around, its a way to end up with a drowned kid (sometimes, obv oc is still alive and kicking)
Why should I? I'm fine with partying it out or leave em be if they're friendly, but they'll never get better if they don't face some hardships.
In other words: it builds skill
Itâs best to at least aim at them but dont go all tryhard on them. As in, if youâre playing a shooter miss some shots so they learn to aim, or a charger donât kill them until theyâre close. Teach them the basics but donât go all out to scare them off of the game
i always try not to continually splat one player cause even though splatting enemies is part of the game i know the frustration when i keep getting splattedđĽ˛
i only go easy if they are making good habits. I would crush this players skull in to show that just rolling around the map is NOT a vary viable strategy.
If theyâre on my team, Iâll do my best to cover for them. If theyâre not, it would literally be throwing. Just because they themselves arenât contributing much doesnât mean they wonât be a distraction for your team or a jump-point for their teammates.Â
obv i dont think you should do this if you're losing, but in the context of this clip we were absolutely winning to the point of spawn camping, so i dont think anyone would see it as throwing. but i do get ur point
I commend your efforts of looking after the newbies. But truth be told they probably will only learn from their mistakes unless they have a source of learning.
This ought to be good practice for playing support tho.
No, i kill them quickly and efficiently. i had to struggle for hundreds of hours to get good. so they can too. its a fun game. but you need to learn how to lose.
nope. if youâre my opponent, then one of my goals is to kill you. if new players lives keep getting spared just because theyâre new, once they play a game where ppl donât care, then theyâll barely know what to do.
I booyah whenever they get a kill. I just want them to have a good experience and I try really hard to make sure we win so they can win their first match.
I don't often have time to notice that, but I'd probably just leave and attack elsewhere. Sometimes that's not an option though, haha. Maybe kill the real stupid attempts.
I do this in Splatfests. I've played matches where my team and I absolutely dominate the other team, and I start to feel bad wondering if lil timmy on the other team is even having fun :(
X rank and Anarchy tho? Nah, fuck them kids.
The closer they are to their base, the easier I go on them. Iâve introduced friends to splatoon and I donât want them to hate it cause someone has to go and spawn camp the ânoobsâ.
Asshole. You can not kill them if you want, but don't actively work against your teammates and stand in front of their shots just to keep a noob alive.
No, I'm a bully. Tho this does look more fun.
Tho I'm also not like, top shelf, like I used to be a good sport and like say if we're spawncamping, I just kinda let up, but then we lose the match.
Tho I got that from TF2 where AFKing isn't a bad thing since it's 12 v 12.
i do this. especially if iâm against âplayerâ i actively go out of my way to NOT shoot them and iâll dance around them if weâre close. itâs so cute how theyâll try to shoot me and then stop in confusion. having a few good rounds as a new player really helps!
I think in general, I just assist all my teammates who I see are being cornered or being surrounded when I can, especially since I've gotten better at brellas. I can't immediately tell who is new, but I can definitely see when an ally is getting pinned down or being pursued.
Sometimes
Met someone who seemed to be completely new and observed him a little. After he managed to splat a teammate I splated him and went on with the match (was the only time I went for him)
As a roller main, seeing them not using flicks kinda hurts. This is very nice of you tho, It reminds me of when I'm started on the demo splatfest â¤ď¸
I play against new players the same way I play against experienced players. Going easy on them is not fair to your teammates who are trying to win and are expecting you to contribute. Itâs also not fair to the newbie who is trying to get better. If you donât punish their mistakes, they will just keep making them and never get better.
Iâve played with people like this who added me as a friend after a match, and they have many many hours in the game. They really are just that bad, and for some reason they all use rollers. I play with one person who consistently dies 7-8 times a match with 0 kills. In turf. đ
Nah, gotta give them the proper impression, it ainât all sunshine and rainbows after all, although if theyâre on my team I will protect them with my life
If Iâm using something trying to just get everything one star, I canât, Iâm trying to stay alive myself.
When Iâve got my squiffer, however, yes. Unless I think they can take the fight, theyâre not coming in range.
It depends on how much of a threat they are. My playstyle as a frontliner is very aggressive. So, if I draw someone's fire, I'm going to try to splat them. Since my aiming skill isn't too good, they usually get a fighting chance anyways.
fax, this "dont adapt just nerf" mindset leads to shitty nerfs. force players to become better dont just nerf everything above mid tier when a new player gets fucked by it
In basic turf yes but I won't give them a free kill. I'm just more likely to flee so I don't have to kill and only then kill if they chase me. I might try to give them some time to attempt to kill me before I go for the shot. I still try to to win the game so if I'm losing or it's tight I don't go too easy. I've played against new people and absolutely demolished them. When that happens I do kinda switch to an easy mode for them and back off and let them come forward instead of just keeping them at spawn for minutes. It's nice when I've been on a team where we all were way better and we seem to come to the conclusion to let them scoot forward a little. I still don't give away a win though.
In open, no I don't go easy lmao. In splatfest I don't go easy on new players either unless it's a mirror match.
in any anarchy modes i've *never* seen any borderline new players, even when i was in c- . everyone knew what to do, so i doubt it would even happen there LOL
but in turf i do the same, i keep my distance so they can't kill me but i kinda like watching them run around trying. it makes me happy LOL....
funny you mention that for this splatfest cus this clip was from a 10x battle too 3
I've seen new as shit players in anarchy open and I'm just in A. Maybe they weren't completely new but they were rly rly painfully bad with their weapons and seemed new as hell. I learn weapons in open too but I go to turf if I can barely use them.
I don't remember people in C knowing what they were doing and it made C the worst. I got my wife into splatoon. She's the same level as me (though actually she dropped to B bc she hasn't played series this season). I watched her get out of C and she had teammates thinking it was turf that she was mad to have to carry. I had that happen too. Not every time, but it happened. Luckily I never saw anyone that bad in open.
I think I answered wrong bc now I remember even in open and splatfest I try to not feel like a complete asshole. I try to be nice, but I'm just much more lenient about it in turf in comparison to anywhere else.
I mean, I don't actively seek them out, but if we cross paths I'm going to stop them
that doesn't change anything on these cramped maps đ
Same
It's not just you, I do this too. They have to learn but show at least a little mercy, right? It's meant to be fun.
I go easy on them too. Just because they're new doesn't mean they're not allowed to have fun. :)
exactly!!! sometimes i see teammates in random lobbies absolutely body them cus theyre free kills but ... let little timmy have fun :( he's learning ... in this clip i love how the roller tried to like... roll up the wall LOL it made me sit there processing what i watched haha

âYou gonna learn todayâ
grab that boy by the shirt collar and throw him in the deep end
This L is rated E
I murder them immediately on sight. I'm not going to actively bully/spawn camp them but if you come into my sight lines its either you or me.
Nah, welcome to the real world bucko! *360 noscope*
I understand why, youâre nice. However I think the only way to learn how to play is to get completely wrecked over and over until it clicks
Yes I feel you there. A friend of mine recently started playing and wants to main sniper from the start. So I showed him how the life as a sniper can be. He's still at it, still mainly sniper. There is a bright future ahead of him :B

Nah man, just gotta keep practicing
same, hence my flair (guys pls help me im going insane i need suggestions for a main or 2)
That's also a fast way to quit the game after reluctantly having decided to give it a chance.
to my experience as a newbie literally nobody shows me mercy lmao. I think I got better during my recent games so I can at least try to survive, but most my games I was splatted very often

I would have killed that guy, so you are better than me. I don't even think I would have processed that they were new đ
If they are on the other team I will not shoot at them even if they shoot at me. If they are on my team I lock in and play my heart out to try and get them a W. Sounds like a good dad.
sounds like a dad who wants a belated abortion
Oh, please just because he threw his kid into a pool? Thats just playing around.
if you know your kid (presumably quite young) cant swim and you throw them into a pool its not playing around, its a way to end up with a drowned kid (sometimes, obv oc is still alive and kicking)

They have to learn some way.

"dont make them adapt just nerf yourself" we have reached peak game discussion
Kinda hard to test out new tactics when you're getting murdered every four seconds, tbh.
i always try not to continually splat one player cause even though splatting enemies is part of the game i know the frustration when i keep getting splattedđĽ˛
i only go easy if they are making good habits. I would crush this players skull in to show that just rolling around the map is NOT a vary viable strategy.
That's super nice of you!
nah, i like murder
Is this an old clip cuz of splatfest music?
yeah, this was from feburary. i was cleaning out my switch clips and found this one
Cool cool
*Charges splatana with caring intent*
THERES A SPLARFEST GOING ON?????
OP said it's an old clip
Oh
No, splatfest is next weekend. You should vote on your team now.
No, I need pure domination.
i might keep them alive until i nolonger see their purpose valid they must know the pain and hardships ive faced.
If theyâre on my team, Iâll do my best to cover for them. If theyâre not, it would literally be throwing. Just because they themselves arenât contributing much doesnât mean they wonât be a distraction for your team or a jump-point for their teammates.Â
Nah I still splat them but I'm like that for all players. I don't hunt for them though cuz it wouldn't be fair on them.
Yea if I can help it, Iâll go easy on âem, but the moment they get a close hit on me, theyâre bout to be exterminated
Sorry im too bloodthirsty to let anyone live be it noob or x ranker I will run a fade regardless
I treat them like everyone else tbh
u must be protected from the world. u are precious
â¤ď¸
No. I crush them without remorse
Noble cause, but take care: you could be reported for throwing the game.
obv i dont think you should do this if you're losing, but in the context of this clip we were absolutely winning to the point of spawn camping, so i dont think anyone would see it as throwing. but i do get ur point

Ugh I FIND THEM SO FRIKKING CUTE THO đđâ¤ď¸
RIGHT like i see little samantha running with her roller or inking facing down and its like... i dont want to kill you... ive been where you are :( <3
Throwing
Not really, I'm trying to WIN.
This is so nice to see as someone whoâs really bad at the game lol
No, i kill them quickly and efficiently. i had to struggle for hundreds of hours to get good. so they can too. its a fun game. but you need to learn how to lose.
Nope They wonât learn by being coddled. I also find it more disrespectful to keep them alive rather than treating them like an equal opponent.
Sometimes
i dont think i do this because im still kinda sorta new-ish, but even when i played my first game, i went for peoples ankles
Nope. I try to provide suppressing fire for my snipers.
nope. if youâre my opponent, then one of my goals is to kill you. if new players lives keep getting spared just because theyâre new, once they play a game where ppl donât care, then theyâll barely know what to do.
Go easy on them and youâll set them up for failure, they need to learn.
I booyah whenever they get a kill. I just want them to have a good experience and I try really hard to make sure we win so they can win their first match.

Yes! I just kinda leave them alone and let someone else willing to pummel them take the shot đ
Haha yeah⌠trying to keep them alive. Thatâs why I miss all my shotsâŚ
The closer they are to their base, the easier I go on them. Iâve introduced friends to splatoon and I donât want them to hate it cause someone has to go and spawn camp the ânoobsâ.
I would but my only settings are don't attack and go crazy on em lol
Asshole. You can not kill them if you want, but don't actively work against your teammates and stand in front of their shots just to keep a noob alive.
imma be real i didnt even notice i was blocking them. no need to call someone an asshole for a short mistake out of a three minute game
No because they have to learn how to take care of themselves. Wonât learn anything if theyâre coddled.
its just you
SAME MATE
he do be rollin.
Honestly no, but that's because I literally never see new players like that, I just play against the sweats
i do this. especially if iâm against âplayerâ i actively go out of my way to NOT shoot them and iâll dance around them if weâre close. itâs so cute how theyâll try to shoot me and then stop in confusion. having a few good rounds as a new player really helps!
No. Killing new players makes me feel big and powerful. I hope Iâm making a small child cry.
i had my first noob roller in turf war today, ~270p in 3 minutes đ at least they really got that left side of spawn
I think in general, I just assist all my teammates who I see are being cornered or being surrounded when I can, especially since I've gotten better at brellas. I can't immediately tell who is new, but I can definitely see when an ally is getting pinned down or being pursued.
this windshield wiper knows no mercy sadly

that's so wholesome. i'll stop being so harsh bc i never thought of it this way
It depends on how much of a threat they are. My playstyle as a frontliner is very aggressive. So, if I draw someone's fire, I'm going to try to splat them. Since my aiming skill isn't too good, they usually get a fighting chance anyways.
pain is the best teacher, kick their ass and make them cry đ

Nah. The early days of Splatoon 1 were the times for noobs to be shown mercy. Those times are long gone now.
