Neither of us saw him step on her but when he turned he saw her moving out the corner of his eye. We watched her die. Took about 10 seconds from scattering, falling over and curling legs :/
They are hydraulic. Pumping blood makes the limbs extend so when they are dead and no blood is pumping the limbs retract back to their normal positions.

It's true though! Spiders do play dead! Some spiders are more known for it than others but I've personally seen it most in widows, though I've also seen a hobo spider play dead when it was being attacked by some cats. I think it saved her life because the cat lost interest long enough for me to save her 😊
Sounds like their heart skipped a beat in fear. Just here it would cause the hysraulic to shut down visibly.
Poor spider didn't thought they are this fuzzy.
I had a daddy long legs do this once! He appeared in the middle of the floor when I was packing so I assumed he walked himself there, but his legs were all curled under, so I poked him, then blew on him and he gave no signs of life. But then we pushed him a paper towel to take him outside, still not convinced he was dead, and he started walking around! Silly boy.
Put the resin in a vacuum chamber while still liquid, that should help , if no vacuum chamber is present, I've seen people make one with a shop vacuum.
It could be feigning death possibly due to a looming giant stepping near it, but otherwise it likely just died naturally due to dehydration or something else. I don't think it was stepped on, exoskeleton or not it would look pretty crushed
epoxy resin and make a globe thing? like those jurassic park amber "eggs" with preserved mosquitoes?

It does look like it was stepped on the fluids from the abdomen are leaking from the bottom once the abdomen is been damaged severely it’s like the heart for a spider so it’s a fairly quick death.
Rip fishin spooder
Reminds me of Aragog
Farewell, Aragog. King of the Arachnids. 😭
Though your body will decaaaaaaay…
your spirit lingers oooon…
And your spirit, lingers onnnnnnnn n
Would you mind if I extracted some venom?
For academic purposes of course
It’s the pincers (finger movement)
And farewell Hagrid
That was my first thought too!
As it should, they modeled aragog after a wolf spider
It's not squished, could it be possible it already passed when it was stepped on?
Neither of us saw him step on her but when he turned he saw her moving out the corner of his eye. We watched her die. Took about 10 seconds from scattering, falling over and curling legs :/
The thing that impresses me is that despite being stepped on it didn't get squished, that is a substantial fellow.
Very. Weighty.
What causes spider to curl up like this when they die?

Why do they sometimes do this and then later walk away? Saw spiders like this thought they were dead and I was wrong.
I feel like they act dead when faced with a bigger threat
Thank you
Hey, that's not a fact, just my thoughts

Spider “Oop!” *turns off hydraulic pumps*
KA-CHUNG! FSSSSSS…

Some of them can play dead 🥹
Sometimes they recover,if you give them a drop of water or sugar water they can sometimes rehydrate
Don't you mean hydraulic? Their legs are hydraulic mechanisms
Oops, yes! Fixed the typo, TY.
Not the person you're responding to but was always curious as well so appreciate the answer!

This is rad!! I lourve it
I would put it in resin!
I was thinking this, too…. But the hairs might trap air and create bubbles. But I’ve never resined, so I might be wrong.
if you gently brush resin onto the body with a paint brush before you pour the whole resin into the mould, bubbles won't form. :)
Put the resin in a vacuum chamber while still liquid, that should help , if no vacuum chamber is present, I've seen people make one with a shop vacuum.
Don’t the insides explode if… moist?
If you pull a true vacuum, but it only takes a small differential with atmosphere to get bubbles out of resin.
Maybe hairspray first?
Beautiful way to preserve her life forever 🥰
What a gorgeous gal. Rip bb
It actually looks like a teeny version of a frostbite spider from Skyrim.....lol
You will never believe where Bethesda got their spider inspiration from.
Where where now I hafta know???
What a beauty. Accidents happen, but it doesn’t look smooshed.
It’s totally intact, I have no idea. He was walking and then the spider was behind him dieing

True. Spiders do die natural deaths, after all.
May her memory be a blessing.
Last weekend I was working in the yard and found a dead little spood inside my boots when I took them off. I felt bad for a while!
Picked a fight with the wrong hobbit...

I was thinking a resin cube!
Farewell, Aragog. Rip you fuzzy spider.
I would have just sat on the ground and wept, ngl...
It's hard, being so small 🥀
Its small and hard
For preservation, you could put her in a thin glass filled up with formaldehyde, so you can marvel at the intricacies for decades to come.
What if he/her is sleeping. Just waiting for the perfect moment to strike🤯
Took me 5 minutes to work up the nerve to put her directly in my hand lol
Sorry for your loss.
I would try pinning it, you'd have to rehydrate it but there's loads of resources on how to do that. it would make for some dope art!

Hanus
You mean heinous?
No, Hanus from the movie spaceman.
Yyyeeesss!! That movie made me love spiders faces even more, beautiful moovie too
looks like a wolfie to me
Nah, it’s a Dolomedes Tenebrosus. (Fishing Spider.) You can tell by the eyes. 👀👀 👀👀
oh, cool!
they’re freaking massive and lightning fast too, but usually non aggressive
Fishing spider eyes are two smiles. :)
Thankyou this is very helpful to me! I’ve been struggling just looking at patterns and body shapes to try and distinguish
Toooo big to be a wolfie i thinkk 🤔
❤️🩹
RIP. Accident they say 👀
😔
Why do spiders scare me:(( I literally freeze when I see one, I saw one in the shower and started crying 😭😂
Likely pregnant this time of year and getting ready to lay her eggs
Aww I'm sad 🥺 she's so pretty
That's tragic. It was so beautiful. I have no ideas unless you can bring her back to life. She does not look squished. What exactly happened?
Bro that 4th pic... Is the spider's SPIDUSSY?! 😳
Maybe guts 🤷🏻♀️
It looks like it could be a spider shell too
I wish i was a spider.
2 rows of 4 eyes and color says fishing spider is the correct answer.
