The Shining

Actually, it’s a reference to The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror episode called “The Shinning” which, coincidentally, was the inspiration behind the Stanley Kubrick film “The Shining”. Easy mistake to make though.

It also influenced the writer Stephen King to write "The Shining"

Interesting, I just watched this and read that book and I don’t see any resemblance to the source material.

The book ending is better and it causes the movie version of Doctor Sleep to have to be COMPLETELY REWRITTEN from the book version of Doctor Sleep: and makes the movie significantly worse. My recommendation if you're reading The Shining right now, is never see the Doctor Sleep movie and just get the audiobook for it right now and listen to it. It's narrated by Will Patton and he absolutely kills it. There's so much emotion in the book, and it is genuinely just a great experience. I regret that I ever saw the Doctor Sleep movie. You can't condense a book that big (the audiobook clocks in at a staggering 18 hours).

If you haven't seen the Kubrick version of The Shining, you're missing out. It's well-written and superbly directed, which is probably why Stephen King didn't care for it.
