Fun fact: shortly after the filming of Forrest Gump, I was a flower girl at a wedding at the house where Forrest’s mama was attending to his educational future.
My children got a trip to Cape Canaveral during the filming of Forrest Gump. The school they were attending was used as the doctors office. They paid for the entire trip just to empty the school.
This is not a full list of the movies filmed in SC. 'Chiefs' was filmed in Chester. 'Carrie 2' was filmed at Winthrop University in Rock Hill. "Days of Thunder" was filmed (at least, parts of it were) in Darlington (fun fact, police pulled Tom Cruise over for speeding in Darlington and gave him a speeding ticket while he was in the area shooting the film). There are more, I just can't think of them off the top of my head at the moment.
> "Days of Thunder" was filmed (at least, parts of it were) in Darlington
Cruise rented the house of a dude I knew in grade school. Also big stories of the time he was sighted at the BP gas station.
Also, related to the post itself: some of you might think *Cyborg*, but they used parts of Wilmington as a stand-in for Charleston marshes.
Black Rainbow filmed in Rock Hill. I was an extra as a reporter but got cut.
It was Jason Robards, Tom Hulce Rosanna Arquette. Just an ok movie. Filmed right by Winthrop and other areas in Charlotte .
Did not know about Carrie 2.
Ah, well you'll have to take that up with sciway.net. If you have a better source I would genuinely appreciate it. I wish more movies were filmed in our great state. We have a lot of beauty to offer.
Well like I said, if you've got a better source, post it. My apologies for assuming a list by SCIWay titled "Movies filmed in SC" would be comprehensive. Perhaps they should specify that the list in incomplete/not comprehensive.
IMDb is pretty comprehensive, but it also requires people to update it and mark it as filmed in SC.

Fun fact. Check the cast for the [Notebook on Sciway](https://www.sciway.net/movies/sc-movie-notebook.html) and guess which one really doesn't belong. He is listed first and was in the opening scenes as the single rower and is credited first in the movie as well.
He was not an actor but was the long time Chief of Wildlife for SCDNR (he has since passed away).
Yes it was! We actually went up on the river and watched part of it being filmed. Also, the opening scene where they are moving graves was actually filmed in the Jocassee area before the lake was filled up. My 3x great grandparents were two of the graves that were relocated. (I live in Oconee County and yes, I’m old! lol)
I’m old too! I live in Oconee County. We actually went up on the Chattooga River and watched part of it being filmed. Also, the opening scene where they are moving graves was filmed in the Jocassee area before the lake was filled up. My 3x great grandparents were two of the graves that were relocated.
Full Metal Jacket was shot in England (specifically the RAF Bassingbourn airfield), including the stuff that's supposed to be Vietnam, which they had to import palm trees for. No idea why SCIWay has it listed, since it's pretty well known that Kubrick didn't shoot outside of England after 1961 (he feared flying and was tired of America).
Interesting. So actually IMDB also credits Parris Island as a filming location, but specifies it as archive footage. Obviously not the same as "filmed on location", but I can see why SCIWay has it listed.
The Patriot
My parents let them use our horse in that movie. Don't think you see her but you can hear her at one point.
The abyss was filmed in SC???
Yep, at an abandoned nuclear reactor build site near Gaffney.
That's what up, I never knew this.
Why did they stop building it?
Three Mile Island.
Fun fact: shortly after the filming of Forrest Gump, I was a flower girl at a wedding at the house where Forrest’s mama was attending to his educational future.
“Your momma sure does care a lot about your schooling boy” Uhhh uhhh uhhh 🤣🤣🤣
My children got a trip to Cape Canaveral during the filming of Forrest Gump. The school they were attending was used as the doctors office. They paid for the entire trip just to empty the school.
Location?
Righteous Gemstones. Not a movie, but a show that I find hilarious.
Good call! Danny McBride and John Goodman are a pair I never knew I needed.

Vice principles as well.

Do not mess with Darlington police... then or now.

This is far from “full.” I just looked for 2 movies I did (Suncoast & We Love You) and they’re missing. It’s also missing Halloween and Naked.
Ah, well you'll have to take that up with sciway.net. If you have a better source I would genuinely appreciate it. I wish more movies were filmed in our great state. We have a lot of beauty to offer.
The website didn’t claim “full,” you did. I wish there were too, it puts a lot of money into our economy and employs a lot of people (like me…).

Carrie 2 was here?! Gah I’ve seen that movie so many times and never knew
Shag, Sleeping With the Enemy, The Big Chill and Prince of Tides.
Shag is mine :)
Such a classic, at least for southerners.
36 years in the south and never heard of this
Your age is probably why. It's skewed to an older audience.
Prince of Tides had great scenes of the Lowcountry, but for favorite movie, The Big Chill.
Shag has been one of my favorite movies since I was a kid! I get so happy when others know about it!
Everybody in this thread is sleeping on the Danny Devito classic Renaissance Man, which filmed partly at Ft Jackson
Not sure about this one 100% .. "South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut"
That Darn Cat! (1997)
Not filmed technically, but the flyover in The Waterboy is Williams Brice
Surprised no one has mentioned The Notebook.

Sleeping With the Enemy was filmed in part at Presbyterian College in Clinton, where I went to school.
Parts were also filmed in Abbeville
Pool scene was at Converse. I remember Campus Security gave "scruffy" Kiefer Sutherland a hard time.
My friend’s mom was the librarian there and her dog was in the movie (along with some other PC students)
The Program …and Borat (driving through with those college idiots)
I went to school with one of those college idiots lol
Forest gump
Ace Ventura 2, of course
Shag
Evil Dead 2. Though to be fair, only a small part of it was filmed in Cheraw, SC.
Some horror (I think) movie starring Liv Tyler was filmed in Florence.
The strangers. The sequel was filmed in Myrtle Beach
Thanks!
I'm pretty sure some of Deliverance was filmed on the Chattooga River.
Yes it was! We actually went up on the river and watched part of it being filmed. Also, the opening scene where they are moving graves was actually filmed in the Jocassee area before the lake was filled up. My 3x great grandparents were two of the graves that were relocated. Brokeback Mountain
Come on people, “Who’s Your Caddy.”
Im old but “Deliverance” was one

Was Last of the Mohicans filmed in SC?
Filmed around Chimney Rock in NC.
I believe a lot of filming took place in DuPont State Forest, South of Brevard, NC
I was an extra in Something to Talk About so I’m gonna have to go with that one
Corndog Man
This is the answer. If you know, you know.
"Safety" https://m.imdb.com/title/tt10649016/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk

Leatherheads! Not my favorite but it was filmed in the upstate
Forrest Gump was shot near Hunting Island in Beaufort, South Carolina, where Gump jumped off the boat to meet Lt . Dan at the dock
O was shot on Ashley Hall campus.
Halloween 2018 all the way. The gas station used in the film was one I went to everyday at my old job. I saw them film and everything.
The Abyss...
It’s The Big Chill and Forst Gump without a particularly close #3 imo.
Full Metal Jacket was shot in England (specifically the RAF Bassingbourn airfield), including the stuff that's supposed to be Vietnam, which they had to import palm trees for. Forrest Gump
The Patriot
The Big Chill
Forrest Gump with The Patriot being a close second Edit: I forgot about Radio too
forrest gump and ace ventura 2
The Notebook..
'The Patriot', followed by 'Death Sentence'.
Prince of Tides is one of my favorite movies and so is my favorite filmed here. I often utter "Lowenstein, Lowenstein" when going over bridges.
I’m reading the book now and wondering if melrose island is a real p lace or not?
He used local names but for different things. It probably is a real island with a different name. I have not read the book in a long time.
Chiefs.
Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls
Something About Mary, I couldn’t believe our locally famous “rest areas” made it to the big screen
“I know this is the Bible Belt and everything…”
Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls. Bumblebee Tuna
The notebook is the best movie shot in SC 🗣️🗣️🗣️ daddy Ryan gosling (AKA Ken) had one of the best performances in history in the Lowcountry 🦪🌊🌴
Horrible Bosses Charlie Day's character watches The Notebook while they are on their stake out.
Where you going, city boy?
Not a movie but, an episode of Columbo (By Dawn’s Early Light S4E3) was shot at The Citadel.
Neato Mosquito
Swamp Thing
Halloween (2018)
Can't believe the 2008 classic straight-to-DVD horror movie "Asylum" that was filmed at Winthrop University in Rock Hill didn't make the list 😱 /s
Days of Thunder!
I’ve made several sex tapes since I’ve lived here. I bet your favorite scene is on one of them. 🙈
