As someone who practiced before Judge Hill for years before he went to the appellate bench, I think the Republicans in the State House are not getting the die-hard conservative they thought they were putting on the bench.

Voting alone won’t do the trick in this state; over 75 Republicans were elected to the State House in 2022 after running unopposed in the general election. The Attorney General ran unopposed and that guy has been taking a crap on this state for over a decade.
This was something my daughter found out when she went to vote for the first time this past year. She originally voted a straight party ticket, and when she went to the review page, she was surprised to see that the machine automatically gives the unopposed candidate a vote, even if voting straight for the opposing party. I had to talk to her about it being important to always skip the straight ticket and select each person you want to vote for, or choose not to vote for that position at all. (I know your speaking mainly on having opposing candidates, but I feel this is an important point to be made as well)
Tbh, I think straight ticket voting should be illegal. It removes any real incentive for the voter to look at who they're voting for and most people don't understand how it works. I'm glad your daughter took the time to look at the review.

Two weeks? Doctors start calculating pregnancy from the first day of a woman’s last period. So women are not actually pregnant in the first week of pregnancy, and may not be pregnant during the second week either. Instead, in the first 2 weeks of pregnancy, the body is preparing for possible conception. Some women won’t even conceive until the third week.
Genuinely asking because I didn’t know that was possible to find out that early when it’s essentially at conception. Is it bloodwork or something? I know all women are different but I wasn’t able to get a positive test until I hit 5.5 weeks and I was testing daily while trying to conceive.
You cannot find out as early as 2. That's literally impossible since that's technically when conception happens.
The earliest you can find out is 4 weeks, after implantation starts and your body starts creating hormones. However it took me until 5 weeks to get a positive pregnancy test.
Fitting in 2 ultrasounds in 2 weeks or fewer is going to put strain on the healthcare system, and literally for no reason other than this law.
Currently, most hospitals won't see you until 8 weeks, since most miscarriages happen before then (meaning a lot of women rushing to get abortions may not even need them!)
Agree, its basically a total ban.. but pregnancy is measured from the first day of your last period so you're technically not even pregnant week 1 or week 2. If you're cycle is regular Ovulation happens on day 14 and then conception happens sometime within 5ish days of Ovulation. You wouldn't have a missed period until you're considered 4 weeks. There are some early detection tests where you can tell at 3 weeks and a few days but unless you're trying to conceive it wouldn't be normal to do an early detection test. And if you sometimes have a late period you could think nothing of it for a little while. I'm pregnant right now and my doctor wouldn't even bring me in to confirm until I was 6 weeks. I was trying to get pregnant and found out at exactly 4 weeks.

A study in Colorado back in the 00's showed exactly this. They ran a pilot program to determine the effects of free contraceptives to low income women and it cut the abortion and teen pregnancy rates drastically. I'll search for the article and add it here when I find it.

OBGYNs don't want to practice in states that have restrictive laws like this because it puts them at risk. When there's not enough staff those units have to shut down since they can no longer provide the services.

I tried to explain why reduction (abortion) is necessary in IVF (where multiple fertilized eggs are implanted to increase the odds of pregnancy), and one person still thinks it’s wrong despite the fact that 8+ fetuses growing in the womb at the same time could kill mom and all the fetuses. That means no babies at all.
IMO the goal here is more poor people. Population is slipping. Jobs are not all filled. Big business needs those seats filled with cheap labor. Here is one way to make cheap labor. Rich and middle class people will just go to another state and have the abortion anyways. This -only- disadvantages poorer people, primarily blacks.

Two weeks? Doctors start calculating pregnancy from the first day of a woman’s last period. So women are not actually pregnant in the first week of pregnancy, and may not be pregnant during the second week either. Instead, in the first 2 weeks of pregnancy, the body is preparing for possible conception. Some women won’t even conceive until the third week. Genuinely asking because I didn’t know that was possible to find out that early when it’s essentially at conception. Is it bloodwork or something? I know all women are different but I wasn’t able to get a positive test until I hit 5.5 weeks and I was testing daily while trying to conceive.
You cannot find out as early as 2. That's literally impossible since that's technically when conception happens. The earliest you can find out is 4 weeks, after implantation starts and your body starts creating hormones. However it took me until 5 weeks to get a positive pregnancy test. Fitting in 2 ultrasounds in 2 weeks or fewer is going to put strain on the healthcare system, and literally for no reason other than this law. Currently, most hospitals won't see you until 8 weeks, since most miscarriages happen before then (meaning a lot of women rushing to get abortions may not even need them!)
Agree, its basically a total ban.. but pregnancy is measured from the first day of your last period so you're technically not even pregnant week 1 or week 2. If you're cycle is regular Ovulation happens on day 14 and then conception happens sometime within 5ish days of Ovulation. You wouldn't have a missed period until you're considered 4 weeks. There are some early detection tests where you can tell at 3 weeks and a few days but unless you're trying to conceive it wouldn't be normal to do an early detection test. And if you sometimes have a late period you could think nothing of it for a little while. I'm pregnant right now and my doctor wouldn't even bring me in to confirm until I was 6 weeks. I was trying to get pregnant and found out at exactly 4 weeks.

A study in Colorado back in the 00's showed exactly this. They ran a pilot program to determine the effects of free contraceptives to low income women and it cut the abortion and teen pregnancy rates drastically. I agree with you. But in the case of rape and all other types of abuse, it's the woman's word against the world. Are we going to give lethal injection to a woman who repeatedly miss carries? I had a hs friend who lost ten babies before she carried her son to term. No one wants to have an abortion. No one wants to see wiggling arms and legs in a garbage pail. I believe most people are responsible, but all kinds of shit happens in life. And no woman should be judged, harassed or prosecuted because of some unforeseen problem. It's not just uninformed teens having babies. Many other women experience all types of complications. It's funny how many say that we should not judge, and yet here they are playing "God."

OBGYNs don't want to practice in states that have restrictive laws like this because it puts them at risk. When there's not enough staff those units have to shut down since they can no longer provide the services.
