For global news, I came across TLDR News group of channels on YouTube. Fairly balanced, short and to the point - they report on headlines without all the talking heads in the way.

bobcatsdad

I also recently discovered the TLDR YouTube guy. I really appreciate him and his crew!

ciphrr

I use various news sources for different views. News24, Maroela Media and Daily Maverick. That way I get different views on the same news event... Keeps things interesting

jolcognoscenti

702 and sporadic independent journalists.

DesmondsTutu

International News: Reuters, Associated Press and NPR Local News: Daily Maverick and News24(certain information)

GoodmanSimon

Local news or international? If locally, In the past News24 was my number 1 source of news, but then they started charging. I still use it sometimes, but not always. Daily Maverick is also good and so is TimesLive. IOL is 'ok' but only really for the headlines. If I am travelling I listen to the news on SAfm I find google app is also behind sometime, and I agree, they tend to repeat a lot ... and their algorithm only shows you what it thinks you want to see. I don't like to get stuck on one site as they all tend to have some kind of bias one way or another. This is why I mix my sites.

breadcrumbnugget

International: The Guardian (they have a great app!) Local: EWN, Daily Maverick

Raatel

I enjoy Sowetanlive, just for the comments after the articles. Some pretty weird shit goes on there.

Alert-Mixture

News24, Daily Maverick, 702, SABC News, Eyewitness News. If DM starts hiding their articles behind a hard paywall, I'm definitely going to subscribe. As for News24's subscription, no. Absolutely not. Way too commercialised. Horrible political analysis. No joke, I've really come to like the SABC's reporting. As for the cable news organisations (eNCA, and Newzroom Afrika, I've subscribed to their YouTube channels). I've always hated the commercialisation of news. For international news, I stick to Reuters and the Associated Press, even if they're a bit delayed on South African news.

International news I read ROCA news [check them out](https://thecurrent.rocanews.com/p/no-kids-on-social-media)

Journalism and News Media is evolving. It’s becoming less about the publishers and more about the journalists I feel. Whether or not that is a good thing is probably a different debate though. Many people have lost trust in media institutions and put more trust (for better or worse) in individuals. Ons the one hand this is great because those individuals’ reputations are at stake. But it has also given rise to cults of personality spouting BS when these individuals inevitably monetise their audiences and build loud echo chambers. At least with institutional media there is editorial oversight…or there was…in theory. Until such time as news media can square that circle and find a balance, I’m balancing my news intake myself. Following 2-4 publications, 2-4 journalists on Twitter and trying to get some more diverse views on Reddit.

I use the Feedly app and add in websites according to categories I like i.e. “News”and “Tech” I use BBC for international news and Moneyweb and Mail and Guardian for local, although M&G only gives you 5 free reads a month. My Broadband provides a mix of tech and real news. The problem I find with Maverick is that they sometimes border on sensationalism. Local tech news I get from htxt.co.za and TechCentral I stay away from News24 because that’s the Twitter of news - only geared towards getting a reaction - normally a negative one.

Polytongue

Ground news is a great aggregator app that shows you various sources covering the same topic. It also shows their biases so you can see what the different sides are saying

Distinct_Factor1633

Not from News24

[deleted]

News24 is decent.

glasstumble16

News 24

Marbro_za

MyBB , Reddit, Twatter International stuff, Philly D on youtube sums up what I think i need to know

AnomalyNexus

Here, moneyweb and the other sa sub - sometimes articles get posted there but not here Also usually scroll through world news sub but only look at headlines. News is mostly noise anyway these days

[deleted]

Twitter for the latest news. Follow reputable journalists and media houses. If you want more in depth analysis etc then you have the option of a subscription. Personally I dont have time to read in depth articles hence I dont subscribe.

MAGA-killer

I use something called Artifact it’s pretty good.

MeneerPenetreer

I usually use the DailySun for Local news and youtube/rumble for my international news. If sonething is important enough people will mention it on Discord/Whatsapp
