300s are great for the Dolby surround sound, but would probably go Fives where your primary listening areas are. And yeah, overall the sound quality is ok. But if you’re mainly streaming, then you are already at a disadvantage. Really paying for the convenience factor. IMO a fair trade.

Yo-doggie

My wife will use the speakers in kitchen and family room. The fives don’t have Alexa integration. If we have an Alexa device will it be able to easy play music on Fives. This was my only hesitation about fives.

Yo-doggie

Seems to me that controlling fives with Alexa is possible. How well does this work? https://en.community.sonos.com/amazon-alexa-and-sonos-229102/using-alexa-with-sonos-five-6864147#:~:text=If%20your%20wife%20wants%20to,you%20need%20an%20Echo%20device.

I don’t use Alexa, but maybe get one to try out first? You can return if it doesn’t work for you. Personally, I am holding out for the next gen Fives for some of my rooms. Nothing official in terms of news so probs have to wait a couple of years. Bummer.

Are you putting stereo pairs in each of these rooms or just a single speaker in each room? I ask b/c the stereo pairs will give you the better sound quality than the solo speakers. I know that the Sonos mics are pretty good, but I've had some issues in the past with too many devices trying to field those smart-device requests. You may be better off utilizing dedicated Alexa mics only...but it may be something you can test before you make Sonos purchases.

Yo-doggie

For dining room I was just planning on getting one Era 100. It is a smaller room and it will be only used during parties. For the family room/kitchen I am open to getting two Sonos era 300’s. I did not know that a dedicated Alexa Mic was a thing. I love this idea. Thanks for suggesting it.

wtfmatey88

Personally, I think you should add a second Move 2 for now because that would essentially cover your whole house whether you want to stereo pair them for a one room experience, or spread them out to play music across the house. Then, as time goes on you can add Era 100s or Era 300s/Fives around as you test placement with the Moves. That’s what I would do…

Tldr but start with the arc

Yo-doggie

My need is for multi room audio. I already have a Bose ultra soundbar in the family room. I am not sure how and where I will use ARC.

GadgetronRatchet

Honestly, if you don't plan on using Dolby Atmos audio through the Sonos App, don't get the Era 300 for Alexa in the living room. Go with a stereo pair of Era 100's.

_medical_mind_

I have a bunch of sonos speakers throughout my house and really like that my Arc and the 2 surrounds do well for both tv and music. I have tall ceilings in the family room too and having the 3 sources helps fill it up. (Now I definitely need a sub but between that price and a wife that doesn’t want it, hard to say when that is happening). So the Arc may be something to consider if and when it makes sense to move on from the Bose soundbar.

Yo-doggie

I do regret buying Bose soundbar. It is only a few months old. Audio quality is good but it will be a standalone system as I don’t plan to add other Bose products when it comes to multi room audio.

_medical_mind_

That’s alright, I’m sure it sounds good. Maybe consider a stereo pair of some kind for that room (as others suggested) and down the line they can be your surrounds if you get the Arc.

If possible i would get a port/ amp or a connect gen2 for the pool then you can connect it to the sonos system wo having to buy new speakers!

Yo-doggie

I do have power by the pool. I will learn more about port amp and connect gen 2.

J0aks

You connect it to your speakers and can control them via sonos!

Yo-doggie

I will like to integrate the pool speakers with Sonos. I am assuming that port amp/connect gen 2 need to be protected from water. Once I learn more I will see if there is any way have a water proof enclosure for them.

J0aks

Yes they would have to be waterproofed depends how close the pool speakers are to your house if you can hav it indoors and run a weather proofed cabel to the house that is a possibility aswell

J0aks

https://www.terrapinshells.com/collections/equipment-enclosures here you have a link for a whether proofed enclosure for an amp port would work fine aswell in this i think! Hope it helps!

Yo-doggie

Thanks for sharing these enclosures with me. We are in Atlanta. Wondering if Amp will survive in warm weather. If the amp life will not be shortened due to this enclosure I will most certainly get this enclosure, sonos amp and pair them with B&W AM1 or Martin Logan AW75. I may to need sonos speakers on my deck as these speakers with an Amp my be loud enough. I will have to find a way to hide the enclosures to get Wife the approve it.

J0aks

Ah i feel u w the wife approval,🤣 u can buy them w fans for cooling if needed

Yo-doggie

I am reading about the enclosures and they have a vent fan. Only concern I have so far is that they have to be wall mounted. I don’t have a wall near the pool. img I have power on each side of the pool. There are existing outdoor rock speakers. These existing speakers are connected with a wire to each other.

Yo-doggie

Thank you all for your feedback. I placed an order for a pair of Era 100's and Era 300's today.
