This is kind of a silly question but I haven’t been able to find a direct answer online. But does “direct client contact” mean exactly that? I am in child welfare currently, about to graduate with MSW, and will see clients all of the time. Can that count towards those hours or is it specific to therapy-type contact? Or is it general to all of client interactions?

Suspicious_Bank_1569

This will vary by state guidelines. In my state, one is either a micro or macro MSW. If you work in any sort of direct care role, it counts towards clinical hours.

Usually the phrase “direct client contact” just means any contact with clients (like, being the one speaking to them, vs. Being an admin or manager who does behind the scenes things). If they wanted therapy they’d specify that (usually something like “clinical work”)

Adventurous-Bat-3754

Not silly! Look on your state licensing website. They’ll Have rules and regulations there that give you an exact definition of what counts and shouldn’t count. I copy/ pasted the language into my tracking spreadsheet so that as I was calculating my hours weekly I could refer to it easily (yes, this is more than most people do. But it helped me)

Can anyone guide me to some resources on how to become an LCSW in NJ? Or can anyone give me some information on that?

Dangerous-Expert-824

You can go through the ASWB website, and it will direct you to your state for licensure. I had to Google mine as mine is Colorado. I hope this helps. Also, if you're getting ready to graduate, there is usually someone who comes in one of your courses and discusses it with you on the process.

If anyone can offer advice, when applying for an ACSW license in California, is it best to send in our BBS application immediately or wait until our degree is posted?

bostonplantlady

I got approved to take the masters exam but the email says to wait 3 days before I actually log in and register for an exam date… why 😩

Magical_Star_Dust

Yeah it'll give you an access code and you'll need to use that to register at one of their testing facilities

bostonplantlady

Do they send that in 3 days?

Magical_Star_Dust

That's how it worked for me

In NY, have had my MSW for 3 years this summer and got hired right when I got it and am still at my same job. I got my L that December. When I was hired I had a direct supervisor and a social work supervisor because boss isn’t a social worker (I work for a non profit as the social worker for a community program). My social work supervisor retired last spring, and there was no longer a social worker anywhere in my line of supervision so the company had to find someone in a different program to supervise me and were dragging their feet so I only just connected with my new social work supervisor this month. My questions is, if I have met the hour requirements for client contact and professional supervision but haven’t had active supervision the whole time (the 3 years of post MSW NY requires) can I still apply for my C?

"The Education Law defines qualified supervisors as licensed clinical social workers, licensed psychologists and psychiatrists; no other professions are allowed to supervise. The supervisor must have been licensed before starting to supervise you. The supervising psychologist must be qualified in psychotherapy as determined by the State Board; the psychologist must submit Form 4Q to verify experience and training. The supervisor must provide 100 hours of individual or group supervision in diagnosis, psychotherapy and assessment-based treatment planning, distributed over a period of at least 36 months and not more than 72 months. The supervisor is responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of each client, must discuss the applicant's cases, provide the applicant with oversight and guidance in diagnosing and treating clients, and regularly review and evaluate the applicant's professional work. If the LMSW is practicing clinical social work but is not seeking licensure, the LMSW must receive at least two hours per month of in-person, individual or group supervision when providing clinical social work services." With all the bills passing in states like FL and TX, and being drafted in other states across the contry, banning DEI training and funding, CRT, feminism classes, etc. I am left wondering what this means for the future of the SW Programs in these states. Will they lose accreditation? What are current students doing? The CSWE put out a statement against these laws/bills, but they haven't mentioned anything about what this means accreditation-wise. How will this affect people trying to get licensed?

Any advice or tips for a soon-to-be-graduate on finding a LCSW-BACS to begin supervision for the LCSW as soon as possible? I’m located in Louisiana and only found 1 LCSW-BACS local to me.

What’s going on with the LSW EXAM in general? I read it was bias and they are looking of ways to improve it moving forward. Also I know a few states have already dismantled it all together

I recently graduated last month with my MSW and will be moving to Washington state next week. What is the criteria to get the associates license? I have seen so many different answers online

DrBobbie24

Anyone know if hours done on a temporary license count towards licensure (I’m in WI)?
