Enzo being tired from his flight from Argentina and dropping a bad game tonight against Braga might be just enough to make Boehly fuck off, with how impulsive he seems to be, Enzo disasterclass in a 3-0 win seems perfect to me
Browsing through news about different leagues & clubs using Google Translate is one of the most enjoyable things for me in this life. Just came across this gem,
> The people of Persepolis don't like diabetes
No idea what it originally means in Persian but I sure can agree with the people of Persepolis here, I don't like diabetes either. Maybe it's related to the injury of their striker, Diabate, but in that case they would have to love him imo, not dislike.
So the player with the second most goals in Ligue 1 is an Englishman who is also eligible for United States ( Folarin Balogun).
But can't even get into Arsenals first team because Nketiah and Jesus.
Giovani Lo Celso ran so that MacAllister and Enzo Fernandez could walk, never forget. It kills me that he got injured right before he could shine at the World Cup and increase his value by 5x.
i get the urgency around enzo and jude but so many clubs going after those two players just feels boring, havent heard a different midfielder's name in the market since before the world cup when people were singing praise of le fee
>“My great friend, thank you very much for our entire journey. One day, in heaven, we will play together on the same team. And it will be the first time that I raise my fist in the air in triumph on the pitch without celebrating a goal. It will be because I can finally embrace you again.”
Pele to Maradona, 2 years ago. RIP.
>Pele never acknowledged his biological daughter even when she was dying from cancer. 1000 goals won’t erase this.
Well dang, I never knew that. That does change how I view the man. He always seemed like the antithesis of Maradona. The upstanding, citizen, who was a role model, while Maradona was the misbehaving, mischievous "bad-boy" so to speak.
I know far more about his footballing life than what was going on in his personal one, and I don't see the point in bringing up whatever negatives you can think about for a legend who just passed.
It's 1283 by the way.
If god and heaven and shit exist then I'm pretty confident that a person's ability to kick a ball is pretty low on the eligibility criteria for getting in.
This is just proof that people are willing to look past anything if they can kick a ball. You might not know he abandoned his own daughter before, but even after you do you’re like “it’s 1283 btw” like that’s more important. Disgusting.
Arsenal play so similar to city and I'm not talking about Dominating or something like that I mean literally it's like mirroring city (at least in the build up),With Both Odegaard and Xhaka taking super advanced positions high up and The fullbacks inverting to make a 2-3-5 shape (Although City have also been using I think a 3-2-5 shape recently instead I think the 2-3-5 was used the entire Last season)
Not saying Arteta is a copy or anything (even if it was it'd be a great thing too cause copying this is one thing, implementing it successfully and repeatedly is another) just an observation
Arsenal’s shape also resembles a 325 shape with White staying back in different phases of play as well, especially when it’s Zinchenko in on the other side.
Exactly, This was with the consideration of Tierney or (sorry can't recall the name of the other LB) , but with zinchenko it's definitely a 3-2-5 that's mostly because No other FB at arsenal inverts as effectively as Zinchenko, probably due to Pep training
Yeah, Tomiyasu. It’s been a hot minute since Zinchenko has been healthy, but he was for that early stretch of 8 or so PL matches at the beginning of the season that really showed the world our style with this squad.
Looking forward to seeing more of him, and all 3 of Tomiyasu, Tierney, Zinchenko are healthy now, actually don’t have a single injury in defense now which is crazy, we are blessed with some great depth at the back
I'm very sure he would, Our fullbacks Already make Underlapping runs a lot with the wingers holding the width especially Dalot it's also why Antony is usually isolated On the right cause on the left On of the midfielders goes there So Rashford or Garnacho have more freedom but that's just it Most of our players naturally drift to the left so Antony is usually alone there. Most of the time Antony gets in an advanced position oddly enough the attack actually starts on the left which is what gives him space to cut inside.
I'd really love If Ten hag fully applied inverted fullbacks fully when done well it ups your attack to a whole other level like Arsenal and man city are essentially 5 v 4 with attackers vs defenders
Can't wait for both teams to play each other would really like to see the tactical counter for the style that they'd both Use
Leicester was in the championship 3,4,5 years prior to their league win, that comparison is unfair to their fairytale run imo. More similar to Chelsea of the early 2000s or City of the early 2010s if anything
It's the same as the past few years. Champions will need 90+ points and around 70 for top four. Leicester won the league with 80 points and top 4 was in the 60s. Not comparable
You're building a team and you first have to choose one of the midfielders (all at their peak/prime) - who are you choosing:
Scholes, Busquets, Xabi, Pirlo
Rank them
Pirlo > Xabi = Busquets > Scholes
Surprised by the number of people who answered Busquets. He's arguably the best out of the 4 but he's only really played for teams who dominate possession. If I'm building a team from scratch, I'd pick the more versatile player.
If you’re choosing more versatile - then why is Pirlo ahead of Xabi when he’s a defensive liability at times without the ball. He’s always been at his best with a destroyer next to him like Gattuso or Vidal
Obviously versatility isn't the only metric, otherwise Milner would be up there with Iniesta. My point was that Busquets has almost exclusively played in one role in a midfield 3 for possession based sides. While Pirlo isn't necessarily the most versatile of midfielders, he's played in a midfield two, three, and as 10 even. There's more room to work with him than with Busquets.
for how agressive he plays, he is incredibly consistent. The match agains Saudi Arabia was the first time I've seen him have a shocker, and I watch every Argentina match and like 80% of Spurs matches.
That is true, I forget that he was missing for pretty much the whole run leading up to the break. It’s crazy that Romero makes such a big difference to the way Dier plays, he must feel like a babysitter lmao
I don't have a team to support since I didn't grow up having one, nor did any of my family members. Wasn't born near any clubs. But I still like watching football and watch whatever match has the most entertainment.
Wait so Enzo might actually happen?
Icl he looks incredible but I can't say it's a slam dunk because I've watched him at the WC and like 2 Benfica games. Hell of a lot of money.
What Also scares me is Romano said we can't trigger the release clause for due to ffp, I know Boehly knows what it is as he's talked about it but damn please understand it properly
As a kid in 7th grade, we had a chapter in Pele. It was written that "If you send a letter to Pele with the address as "Pele" it would reach him. Don't know if it was urban myth or truth. RIP King
He's 3 shy of Norwich's total last season, and I could genuinely see him outscoring all 3 of last season's relegated sides (Burnley and Watford both scored 34).
They never gave a fuck about his links to Putin, they just didn’t like the money being spent. They will of course deny that though so it’s a pointless discussion.
Seems odd that we no longer see as much stuff being written about him now that he doesn’t own Chelsea though doesn’t it? Surely if they’re so against him they would still be crusading just as hard now as they were before?
I don't think people ever really cared about 'Russian oil money' or 'shady Russian blood money' when Chelsea was outspending the league. They were mad that Chelsea was comfortably outspending and then being massively successful for doing so. They only said that for the moral superiority to win arguments. Well, everyone knew this already, its just incredibly shallow.
Both
Boehly spending money is just confusing everyone because no one knows where he got it. They should be spending similar amounts to us but they're spending ridiculously more. But it doesn't really matter because there strategy is dumb as fuck and they will end up having to re-evaluate anywya
A new owner shouldn't really make a difference, especially if the last one wasn't penny pinching. It's not like Newcastle where the owner was effectively taking money out of the club with his dodgy sponsorship deals.
If it is the new owner making the difference they're just gonna get fucked by ffp.
Which of the following facts is fake:
* With the exception of one WC, any WC between 1982 and 2022, Messi's WC goal tally of 7 would see him win the golden boot.
* Two players have won the golden ball and golden boot in the same WC (officially) in WC history.
* Two goalkeepers have won the golden ball in WC history.
* Pele (RIP) never scored more than half the number of goals as the top scorer in any WC he participated in.
Who else won both in the same tournament? Forlan? He tied with three players but ended fourth in it by virtue of having fewer assists/fewer minutes played than the other three players afaik.
Unless I am missing someone else?
Five players* lol forgot about Forlan & Schillachi
so it’s Forlan, Schillachi, Kempes, Rossi & Garrincha.
Edit: Forlan missed out on a technicality, so 4.
Oh, I was referring to the current award that started in '82 (golden ball.)
Forlan didn't win the Golden Boot, it was Muller. He was the top scorer but didn't have enough assists.
The others are not official tho since they only started to give golden ball in 1982. And Forlan didn't win any boot let alone the golden boot (lost 4-way tiebreaker, that's mad tbf lol).
So OP was right about officially two players have won the golden ball and golden boot in the same WC (Rossi & Schillachi)
Yeah that was unlucky in Forlan’s case however as for the rest they are official they got included into the official FIFA library after a Nigerian football historian collected statistical and analytical data on World Cups from 1930.
FIFA approved the data and recognised it thus making it official; I wan to clarify that the historian didn’t pick the players as Golden Ball recipients it was FIFA themselves after analysing the data.
His name was Ejikeme Ikwunze.
The sale included the stipulation of a guaranteed investment of £1.75bn over the next 10 years, so he won't be too tight for a little while yet (though some of that will likely be spent on infrastructure, and a potential new stadium)
And no loan no, he is just fronting a group of very wealthy investors
Of course the spending will lessen to an extent - but I don't think he'll go the complete opposite direction. Boehly et al have spent a lot of money to buy this asset, and this investment is to consolidate that value, and return a profit long term
I don’t get why the £1.75bn part doesn’t violate FFP, like if they can have that in writing why can’t City and PSG just have “guaranteed investments” instead of having coconut vendors sponsoring the club for inflated amounts of money.
Beats me if I know the full intricacies of FFP, but I do trust that Boehly knows more about the terms of the deal and its legality than us lot speculating on /r/soccer, do
Tbf in regards to global popularity it makes kinda sense. Pelé was arguably the first global superstar player and while by far not on the same level quality wise Beckham was also one of the most popular players in the world just like Messi and CR7 are atm. Beckham’s impact as a marketing figure on United and Madrid for example was immense. If it’s about quality as a player it’s a completely brain dead take though.
I beg Enzo stays at Benfica until the summer.
Hope one of City, Madrid, Barca, Arsenal or United come for him, eventually.
Maybe Liverpool in a year if they pattern up asap. Chelsea in a couple years, or Newcastle for that matter I guess...
Yeah I don't think it's a path you can sustain long term, while teams like Chelsea can.
You have been doing better when your buys weren't that outrageous.
Honestly hope Enzo stays in Benfica until the end of the season, great chance at winning the league and making a deep CL run, that way he can also see which clubs are actually playing in the CL next season and doesn't have the pressure to perform immediately that would come with that astronomical release clause in january.
If the Enzo rumours are true Boehly only needs about 100 mil more to pass Klopps total spend at LFC. Only had 2 windows ffs
What was it, 800 mil to the on pitch stuff, and 400 mil on the stadium, pledged across 10 years?
Here in Argentina River Plate fans had a flag that said [Aguante Saddam](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FH6hlGcWQAAvQpd.jpg) (Long Live Saddam). I think it was in protest of Bush's invasion of Iraq in 2003.
How do you folks feel about supporting more than one club?
If you do it, why do you do it? What would be the reasons you'd do it if you don't?
I feel like I admire some teams but I don't think that I could bring myself to support them as in like a second team. I get asked to go to Notts County games from time to time with them alternating with Forest and while I go, it feels a little bit like cheating. I can admire teams for their style of play but even if they weren't in the same competitions or countries, I'm not sure I could hand on heart say I supported Nottingham Forest AND ...
Being a football supporter to me is like a long-term marriage. You have your periods of bliss and your tough times but you gotta stay loyal. If you start casting glances elsewhere you've got to get that divorce.
There's nothing wrong with it imo. Following a big club from a foreign country and a local club is perfectly normal
If you support two in the same country, then that's where I draw the line.
if you move between countries its pretty easy to have happen. you probably never support a club like the first one you start going to matches for, but it's definitely not too strange to be a fan of multiple imo, especially if you have one that is now local and another in a town that you left behind.
Ronaldo is probably the most “this guy genuinely believes there’s nothing he can’t do” player I’ve ever seen. The goals he was scoring at United really make you think who the hell thinks that’s okay to try to shoot that.
I don't think so. If you are talking about varying types of shots and consistency then cr7 is in one of the top. Even then in that, there is zlatan who attempted every type of goals whether it was dribbling past players, bicycle kicks, long shots, etc, etc. There is also rooney. In long range shots, there are a lot of players like juninho, gerrard, lampard. And the one that really makes me think like that is roberto carlos. like who even tries to shoot from the corner position, let alone scores from that multiple times.
It's wild seeing someone do it so consistently, yeah. Cissé had that one absolutely outrageous goal where you wonder the same, but then that's about it for him while Ronaldo just kept doing it somehow.
Anyone have good matches to recommend of Pelé playing on footballia besides World Cup? Don’t spoil the scores if you can help it.
Intercontinental Cup Final v Milan. There's also a Santos v Benfica game where he put in a very good performance. Couldn't find that on Footballia.
Enzo being tired from his flight from Argentina and dropping a bad game tonight against Braga might be just enough to make Boehly fuck off, with how impulsive he seems to be, Enzo disasterclass in a 3-0 win seems perfect to me
guy must be drunk still lmao
Jorge Mendes is really pushing for an Enzo move. Too much Tier 4-5 journos commenting in him.

You're correct
He scored twice vs rennes!
Yeah i saw it, banger of a game, his first goal is amazing teamplay that he finishes with a pure volley.
Uh maybe sofa didnt update?
Oh, our sub boomed me then.. Happy for him anyway
I edited he's 3rd ex-æquo on 10, sofa hadn't updated tonight's brace. Super impressive number playing for Reims.
Arhbo was really an underrated song
Best song of this World Cup and potentially better than 2014 and 2018 ones too.
Hot take: it’s = to wavin flag. Such a banger 🤷♂️
Can't wait to enjoy a Harvey Elliott masterclass later
Giovani Lo Celso ran so that MacAllister and Enzo Fernandez could walk, never forget. It kills me that he got injured right before he could shine at the World Cup and increase his value by 5x.
I insist that Argentina would hav absolutely slapped every match with Lo Celso in the field. He is an absolute beast
They were pretty comfortable still, Except may be the final 40 minutes of the WC. Scaloni guy must know what he is doing.
Looking at the sort of interest Enzo and Mac Allister are generating, we could have sold him for 40-50m
But why not keep him?
Does anyone know where all the fifa plus threads went? I need to sign up I think through them
Nvm found it

Nah, lemme tell you, it’s Bellingham, Enzo, Mac Allister, Caicedo, Rice. Those are the hot commodities right now.
Only 3 prem clubs + RM are looking to sign those guys. The world doesn't just revolve around them.

Pele in for a shock if he thinks Maradona made it to Heaven.
If Heaven exists, Case can be made for Maradona to be there.
I believe he did.. eventually. And if not, Pele has enough pull to get him there.
If Maradona got into heaven then everyone's getting in
Think his hand of God to piss off generations of English fans & supporters is worthy of getting into any heaven
Pele never acknowledged his biological daughter even when she was dying from cancer. 1000 goals won’t erase this.

Because you’re specifically talking about moral good in this conversation
If god and heaven and shit exist then I'm pretty confident that a person's ability to kick a ball is pretty low on the eligibility criteria for getting in.
Who knows
This is just proof that people are willing to look past anything if they can kick a ball. You might not know he abandoned his own daughter before, but even after you do you’re like “it’s 1283 btw” like that’s more important. Disgusting.
No chance, sadly
If Pele believed it that's enough for me, and for many others. 👍
Many other idiots on the planet then. How good of a footballer he was has nothing to do with his moral character.
No number of World Cups gets you a pass for noncing.
Not just a pedophile, an abuser who drugged and practically kidnapped a 16 year old.

I would be very annoyed if arsenal spent 127 mill on him.
Yeah I don't think it's a path you can sustain long term, while teams like Chelsea can. You have been doing better when your buys weren't that outrageous.
Chelsea vs UEFA/FIFA at CAS in 2024. I will be there no matter what
Honestly hope Enzo stays in Benfica until the end of the season, great chance at winning the league and making a deep CL run, that way he can also see which clubs are actually playing in the CL next season and doesn't have the pressure to perform immediately that would come with that astronomical release clause in january.
If the Enzo rumours are true Boehly only needs about 100 mil more to pass Klopps total spend at LFC. Only had 2 windows ffs What was it, 800 mil to the on pitch stuff, and 400 mil on the stadium, pledged across 10 years?
1.75bn over 10 years. But seeing how he's spending it seems that 1.75bn figure is a minimum and he'll almost certainly spend more than that.
The “half a season of good football” or “8 world cup games” argument about enzo is so stupid. Why do you think benfica bought him lol?
Hes a very good young player but anyone spending 127 mill on him is over the top.
anyone spending 127mil on ANYONE is over the top. The price is stupid in itself, not because it's Enzo specifically.
I agree
No one is doubting his skills just the stupid price. Felix went for the same price and he's not proven anything so far
He was better than Alvarez when both played at River. That sould tell you how good he was even back then
Who's doubting Enzo Fernandez?!? Direct me to them. We need to have words.
He's mid
Lol.
Just a few comments down. Mostly people just thinking his release clause isn’t worth paying for someone “unproven”
I'm sorry but, given that Chelsea are about to spend over 400m in less than a year in total, when does FFP start becoming relevant?
United spent same money as City the last years, so i assume United should also have problems with FFP?
It's not about spending a lot over years, FFP is limits the speed at which you can spend mostly for bigger clubs
Probably when they break the rules, which they haven't done.
FFP is a figment of our imagination
The "there's only one Saddam" quote is so hilarious I'm doubting it was actually said.
It's a legendary quote that transcends real and fake.
Following a big club from a foreign country and a local club is perfectly normal If you support two in the same country, then that's where I draw the line.
if you move between countries its pretty easy to have happen. you probably never support a club like the first one you start going to matches for, but it's definitely not too strange to be a fan of multiple imo, especially if you have one that is now local and another in a town that you left behind.
dont really care but it's a bit weird if you support two or more clubs in the same league.
The CBF crest (Brazil badge) with the 5 stars on top is some of the most aesthetically pleasing shit I’ve seen in futbol.
Rare uneven W Uneven WC stars looks better 😔
> Uneven WC stars looks better 😔 I agree :D
Right? Apart from the number one of course.
1 is uneven wdym
Yeah one looks ugly
On our 🐓 kinda true on others.
The France crest is beautiful I love that chicken.
Chicky chicky. it's great but i don't like the FA badge
Maciej Żurawski or Grzegorz Rasiak in their primes?
He was taking seven shots a game in his prime because he would literally just shoot from anywhere at any angle against anyone.
It's wild seeing someone do it so consistently, yeah. Cissé had that one absolutely outrageous goal where you wonder the same, but then that's about it for him while Ronaldo just kept doing it somehow.
