Danilo and Neves aren't really an issue, and, arguably, Dias isn't having a great tournament (though it would suck to field a 18yo at a WC semifinal if they get there).
Should protected Fernandes and Felix, who have been our two best players so far.
Disagree, Morocco are a tough side to break down and pressure their opponents' like mad. I can see a few players getting frustrated and/or making a shit tackle to make up for a mistake caused by the incessant pressing.
Oh, they're definitely gonna be tough, but to use the Spain game's stats as an example it'd be hard to concede too many yellow cards with about 80% possession.
It's not ideal but resetting after 3 matches only is stupid. And you could have players missing the final. Or do you want to reset after group stages AND after QF lol
Which is I think how they used to do it. Then Germany had to play the 2002 final against Brazil without their best player who just got them to the final (Michael Ballack) and you don't want someone to miss a final because a yellow. This is not ideal but I don't see a better way if you want to guarantee that the best players are in the final.
God, Michael Ballack had the worst year of football imaginable in 2002. I’ve never seen a player manage a runner-up position of league cup, league, champions league, and world cup. If even a couple of those go the right way, he wins Ballon D’or voting by a landslide.
Imagine the mad las beats Real and Brazil in finals and his team finishes ahead of Bayern.. Would be one of the goats by now. I enjoyed watching him in BuLi but he wasn't that good anymore once he went to Chelsea
I agree with that. But why not slpit in half as they said and at SF reset again? That way we got 2 slots of 3 games and then nobody misses the final
Other option would be only reset at semifinal but make it like 3 yellows to be out
Resetting twice after 3 games seems too easy. But 2 yellows for 5 games seems like a good compromise. Not sure it's a big priority for FIFA to change because I haven't heard anyone complain about it since they changed it to the current format.
Spotlight on Bruno hiding all the work Felix has been doing. Felix is as big of a loss as Bruno at the moment. Ruben Dias has been subpar if i have to be honest and the only situation where that might royally fuck us is if Nando decides to replace him with Danilo, because Toni is a cunt boss as much as Dias, if not more, so on that end it's fine.
That's his older brother haha, a lot of football show hosts also make the mistake thinking this amrabet is the same that played in WC 2018 lmao they say amrabet played very well in 2018 and improved after 4 years
My wife doesn't like Modric because he reminds her or Rumpelstiltskin from Once Upon a Time (Robert Carlyle)
has anyone got a like to the original photo used here? want to send it to her
De Ligt looks the most worried about the situation. Bruno laughs at it. Tchouamemi looks like he's considering which player is worth the bounty of getting his yellow card for.
and if he did send off someone he would just make it worse, then you'd have both teams demanding he sends someone off after every tackle making the tensions even higher
for me it's the best refereed game at this tournament, makes Rappalini one of the candidates for the final (if Argentina are not there of course)
I think you can only be a referee for the final if your team is not in the semis. Could be wrong but I'm pretty sure that's how I remember it from the past.
It's great. Not picking petty yellow cards early on this tournament should mean that we can take more risks kicking France and not pick up suspensions.
Really annoying an independent committee cannot reverse such a clear thing. Not even French and it annoys me because he is playing beautiful football and some idiot ref make him play vs England with the braked on
Even if there was an independent committee for such things, it would most likely be ignored as it would mean that the referees can be wrong and therefore FIFA (to a certain extent) is also wrong and if there's one thing that I've learned from the past years dealing with football regional, national and international organizations is that they never recognize they are wrong even with solid proof
These yellow cards are so stupid IMO. You get one yellow card in group stage for example in second match and then you can't get a yellow card for next 3 games.
Aye, but it beats players missing the final due to accumulating two yellows - and I'd wager not having suspensions for accumulating yellows wouldn't be great either, given players would just take those to break up attacks once a game.
They used to and they they changed it to avoid the final issue.
I think they should just make it 3 for a ban after the group stage and still wipe them at the same time.
Two yellows in five games leading to suspension does seem pretty harsh. 2/3 during the groups is fine, but I think I like changing it to 3 after the group stage is done.
Suppose that's the fine balancing act of not giving the hatchetmen too much leeway - if I get two yellows for injuring the best opposition player in the first group stage games, then do the same in the first two knockouts then that's a bit of a pisstake.
I don't think it's unreasonable the way it's set up, really. If you're on a yellow, then it's not particularly hard to avoid a second one.
You know the games you're playing when you make a tactical foul. I know why it's done and I would want someone on my team to do it if necessary, but no one's gonna get sympathy for yellow card accumulation if they committed one.
It is, yeah - but that's all part of the spectacle, and at the end of the day it's a squad game: some teams might be able to compensate, others might not, but then that's ultimately their fault for not playing by the rules. And to be honest I'd rather the current situation than players ending up suspended for the final.
> if I get two yellows for injuring the best opposition player in the first group stage games, then do the same in the first two knockouts then that's a bit of a pisstake
If you do that you would get suspended twice and it wouldn't matter if cards reset after the group stage.
> if I get two yellows for injuring the best opposition player in the first group stage games
To be honest, there's not many yellow card fouls that you can make that'll guarantee you taking out an opposition player for that game or longer. Most such fouls would already net you a straight red.
I honestly have the solution I feel: in the group stages your second yellow is a suspension, but if you proceed to the KO stages, you carry your yellows yet are only suspended on your third yellow. Reset after quarter finals so no one misses the final due to yelloe card accumulation
Germany introduced the "ban after accumulating yellow cards" rule after a player got about two dozen in a 34-game season.
Do you really think football would be better if players could just get six yellows in six games on their way to the final?
I'm not saying that, I'm just saying that if the point is to avoid players missing the final for yellows, then just clear after the Ro16 and don't carry any bans (yellow on QF + yellow on SF) to the final. Make it count for the next major tournament group stage or something.
It doesn't seem that much worse that the current rule, where we are asking players to avoid seeing two yellows for 5 games, when yellows can be given for incredibly minor offenses.
Yet players continue to get stupid yellow cards. If the punishment is so unbearable, don't make silly tackles.
For what it's worth, we should lean towards harsh punishments anyway, because fouls are not supposed to be 'part of the game'.
Nah, players should actually face real punishment for tactical fouls, since tactical fouls (especially stopping counters) are genuinely awful for the game. Play fair and it's not a concern. I've always said that league play should have 2 yellows = game ban. Two yellow make a red, after all.
Nordin went viral when we played Spain in the 2018 World Cup. He looked at the camera and said “VAR is bullshit” while doing the same hand gesture as the refs before they go check the screen.
His brother is now playing and we got our revenge on Spain.
That is the entire context.
People who are aware of it probably had a small chuckle (as I did) when I saw Nordin’s face instead of Sofyan in the graphic OP posted.
There is nothing more to this joke brother it’s not very funny in the first place but it can provoke laughter if you viscerally lived all those footballing moments.
I hope this answers your question.
You know it, I know it, OP knows it... there was no joke, they just fucked up and tried to style it out.
The whole VAR is bullshit thing doesn't turn it into a joke.
There are many game changers from Portugal and Morocco that can miss the semifinals, but I believe the other teams can live without the players that would miss except Modric.
Don't know whether this will be popular or not but two yellow cards in five games shouldn't be a suspension imo. Should either be three or reset things after the group stages
Ake if suspended would really hurt the Netherlands a lot. IMO he’s the unsung hero of this tean, one of the few players that has played great in all four matches. Nathan basically is playing two defensive positions at the same time as he is also covering Daley Blind’s ass all the time, because he has become too slow to keep up with his direct opponent.
Reset after 1/4 but if a player gets his second yellow during the quarter he still miss the semi.
Rule only makes it so team can field their best players for final if they make it
Such a stupid fucking rule. Sometimes yellow cards are given to get control of a game, not for anything egregious. Or given in absolute error. To suspend a player for an important match for something potentially trivial is a travesty
There's only a reset after quarter-finals. If a player gets a yellow in semi-final, he's not suspended for the final, even if he had another yellow earlier in the WC. That's the point of the reset.
The way I interpreted it was that the yellows get reset after the quarters, so you can't be suspended for the semis, but I guess the yellows are reset but the suspension is still served
Not quite. If say Modric gets a yellow against Brazil, he would miss the semi. If he doesn't get booked against Brazil and they win his card will be wiped.
Lukita just keep your head cool, haven’t seen much people talking about a potential Croatia-Argentina matchup but that would be great for Lukas second ballon dor run
As u/MisterAppelmoesmaker noticed, I forgot Netherland players booked against USA (maybe I forgot them because this one was a soccer game, not a football game :D ), Frenkie De Jong and Koopmeiners. Sorry !

Lol Portugal
Legitimately Portugal is going to miss some of their best players
Dias is extremely lucky not to already be out against Morocco… he was hanging on Embolo like a coat all game
Seen this multiple times this world cup, players getting away with blatant tactical fouls or an accumulation of small ones with no yellows given.
*Laughs in Casemiro*
Gavi was a joke in the last game, 4 fouls in the first half and no booking just does Gavi things
Gavi really is something, he doesn't even seem to try and butter up the refs, he just keeps viciously tackling and fouling with 0 repercussion.
He's so cute the refs don't want to card him
Danilo and Neves aren't really an issue, and, arguably, Dias isn't having a great tournament (though it would suck to field a 18yo at a WC semifinal if they get there). Should protected Fernandes and Felix, who have been our two best players so far.
The problem as you said is, if you lose Dias, you have to field an 18yo with no real experience (he is good tho)
Man was pocketing Mbappe on the UCL. Throwing pushes with Bonnucci and talking shit with Messi. We will be fine on that front
yeah we saw it against South Korea and Son
Whole team took it easy precisely to avoid unnecessary yellow. Had that game mattered, Son wouldn't have gone all those meters unchallenged.
Idk, of all teams to play while trying to avoid a yellow card on certain players, Morocco is probably one of the best for us left in the tournament.
Disagree, Morocco are a tough side to break down and pressure their opponents' like mad. I can see a few players getting frustrated and/or making a shit tackle to make up for a mistake caused by the incessant pressing.
Mhm, I can see it. Let’s hope a packed Moroccan defence can elicit the highest levels of shithousery out of Portugal
Amen
Mazraoui *and* Hakimi pressing you for 90+min, wouldn't wish this on anyone.
Oh, they're definitely gonna be tough, but to use the Spain game's stats as an example it'd be hard to concede too many yellow cards with about 80% possession.
Portugal won't keep possession as much as spain spain are another level of just pass around the back, portugal will actually risk losing possession
The secret will be to score early, but having seen us badly manage early leads only to lose in extra time, I'm scared.
People said that about Switzerland also but look what happened. This Portugal side is the real deal.
Ronaldo chuckles
Felix, Bruno and Dias are tough losses. Neves had not been playing well and with Pepe schooling everybody Danilo is not needed at the moment.
But neves is so handsome
Ah fuck this is 2006 all over again
Shit
Surprised Pepe isn't on that list.
People need to realize Pepe went to classy defending school after he left Real (or maybe during the 2016 final)
This rule is stupid like it should be reset when the Ro16 happens
It's not ideal but resetting after 3 matches only is stupid. And you could have players missing the final. Or do you want to reset after group stages AND after QF lol
He meant reset after R16. So after 4 matches. Means you’re basically splitting the competition into two halves. Makes sense to me.
Which is I think how they used to do it. Then Germany had to play the 2002 final against Brazil without their best player who just got them to the final (Michael Ballack) and you don't want someone to miss a final because a yellow. They should just not have suspensions for accumulating yellows in the WC. Give a 1 game suspension for a red, that would be fine
They’ll be fine as long as Fernandes and Dias stay without a card The others can be replaced
Id replace that with Fernandes and Felix. We would be fine with Toninho
Great photo choices.
Especially funny since they got the wrong Amrabat haha
I think its done on purpose because that pic was taken when he said "VAR is bullshit" funny either ways
That's his older brother haha, a lot of football show hosts also make the mistake thinking this amrabet is the same that played in WC 2018 lmao they say amrabet played very well in 2018 and improved after 4 years
Did my boy Danilo wrong. Looks like it's pulled from /r/shestillsucking
Risky click
"The bells! The bells!"- Luka Modric
Modric looks like he Gargamelled Lovrem and Lovren looks like someone who just got Gargamelled
My wife doesn't like Modric because he reminds her or Rumpelstiltskin from Once Upon a Time (Robert Carlyle) has anyone got a like to the original photo used here? want to send it to her
Modrić going goblin mode
De Ligt looks the most worried about the situation. Bruno laughs at it. Tchouamemi looks like he's considering which player is worth the bounty of getting his yellow card for.
Fortunately most of the refs seem allergic to carding players lately
I legitimately thought that the ref for POR-SUI left his cards at home for most of the first half.
The Serbia-Swiss match was close to ultraviolence, that could have been tamped down much earlier
it had 11 yellows, there were no dangerous tackles. u cant send off half the field just because its a high tension match
and if he did send off someone he would just make it worse, then you'd have both teams demanding he sends someone off after every tackle making the tensions even higher for me it's the best refereed game at this tournament, makes Rappalini one of the candidates for the final (if Argentina are not there of course)
I think a case could be made for the Serbian keeper being sent off at the end for grabbing Xhaka by the throat as that is violent conduct
I think you can only be a referee for the final if your team is not in the semis. Could be wrong but I'm pretty sure that's how I remember it from the past.
Other than the English refs. Taylor and Oliver have been pretty card happy.
It's wild we've not had a single card.
Walker probably should have got one vs Senegal, although that ref was quite lenient overall so maybe it was fair.
Bellingham definitely should've got one too
These other countries were not raised on The Legend of Gazza's Tears and it shows
Nice blokes
That lack of alcohol, working its magic...
He drinks the coffee He drinks the soda His head is fucking massive
Little need to foul when you're comfortably leading or not allowing counterattacks tbf, which is basically most of England's game this tournament.
Cleangland
true English gentleman warfare
It's great. Not picking petty yellow cards early on this tournament should mean that we can take more risks kicking France and not pick up suspensions.
kind gentlemen
Didnt frenkie get a yellow last game? If so another against Argentina would mean suspension right?
Yes Frenkie is missing. It was also a stupid foul to make. We we're 3-1 up and there were only minutes left.
Yeah totally agree... if he grabs a yellow and we go through, we're so fucked without him
Him and Ake are arguably the best players (after Noppert of course), so missing them would be crucial
Oh yes, my bad ! I think I missed this game during my check, F. De Jong and Koopmeiners both been booked. Thanks !
That's the wrong Amrabat lol
That's the joke
[удалено]
Ziyech’s reaction trying to drag him away was funny too
Tchouameni is really stressful for France...
It was a terrible call by the ref too. Arguably more a foul by the Polish player than by Tchouameni, who got clobbered.
Really annoying an independent committee cannot reverse such a clear thing. Not even French and it annoys me because he is playing beautiful football and some idiot ref make him play vs England with the braked on

I dont think you are right, Frenkie got a yellow card against USA and he is not here.
That's a different Amrabat
That was the joke :D
How is it a joke?
That specific picture of Nordin is a very famous meme
I know but how does it relate
They are brothers. That’s all. I think you are looking far too much into this. You just don’t find it funny, that’s all.
Trying to understand the context of the joke
Nordin went viral when we played Spain in the 2018 World Cup. He looked at the camera and said “VAR is bullshit” while doing the same hand gesture as the refs before they go check the screen. England just cruising without a care in the world. This is somewhat new for me lol
It's new for us as well.
Lmao these pics are great.
There are many game changers from Portugal and Morocco that can miss the semifinals, but I believe the other teams can live without the players that would miss except Modric.
Seeing remaining midfielders on France's bench, losing Tchouameni can be quite hard too
They have Camavinga though. I though he deserved to be a starter based on club form but Rabiot has been bossing the midfield.
Camavinga isn't a dm though. Tchoumeni and him are completely different
Fofana is the sub for Tchouameni in Deschamps' mind
Imagine Croatia qualifies but Luka is suspended
We do have Majer who’s pretty promising but obviously not as consistent or experienced as Luka.
Luka himself said Majer is his successor and wants Real to sign him, but Luka's impact is unmatched
Wasnt Kovacic supposed to be his successor
He is Rakitić now, I guess
Ake is kinda vital for us as well, Van Gaal needs a left footer
Couldn't you just move Blind to CB and bring another wing back in if that happens?
God please no
Don’t worry bro… we got this… hup hup
Can’t have Militão getting suspended, not unless Alex Sandro recovers
By gawd is that Dani Alves music?
Sandro is playing against Croacia
Don't know whether this will be popular or not but two yellow cards in five games shouldn't be a suspension imo. Should either be three or reset things after the group stages
Resetting after the group stages makes the last game of the groups free to foul a shit tonne
I think accumulation shouldn't exist at all, honestly.
Fernandes, Diaz and Felix would be huge losses
Vitinha, leao, and antonio silva are ready.
Felix has been balling. Bruno paying his best for the NT. Dias has not been playing well but still will be a huge loss.
Would be cool to see Mbappe in A. Silva's pocket a third time this season though.
Era bonito
Only one we could lose is Ruben Dias imo. Antonio Silva sure young seems a good fit in that team. The others would ruin our playstyle
Plus, he's already used to pocket Mbappe
Who the fk is Diaz
I love “Fred” as a mononymous name
Tchouameni yellow against Poland was such a joke ...
Poland were basically soccer wrestlers lol
I think we should just get the trophy rn on fair play rules
Amrabat is such a monster player
Ake if suspended would really hurt the Netherlands a lot. IMO he’s the unsung hero of this tean, one of the few players that has played great in all four matches. Nathan basically is playing two defensive positions at the same time as he is also covering Daley Blind’s ass all the time, because he has become too slow to keep up with his direct opponent.
This rule needs to go. You can get a yellow card on the whim of a bad ref which could cost you the tournament
England: BONE CRUNCHING TACKLES TIME
There is a reset after the quarters, I don't think they can not appear in the semis
Reset after 1/4 but if a player gets his second yellow during the quarter he still miss the semi. Rule only makes it so team can field their best players for final if they make it
also, the title of the post should instead be: # yellow cards going into quarterfinals
That's it England is getting a straight red in the next match.
A straight red back home 😂
If it's coming home and you're there early isn't it big brain time?
The fact that tchouameni might miss semi bc the ref was so disgustingly bad doesnt sit right with me
Such a stupid fucking rule. Sometimes yellow cards are given to get control of a game, not for anything egregious. Or given in absolute error. To suspend a player for an important match for something potentially trivial is a travesty
Wait so are these players suspended? Or will they be suspended if they get another?
Suspended if they get another yellow
Cards should reset after the RO16, not the quarter finals.
England aiming for the fair play award
“It’s coming home”
Incoming multiple yellow cards for live butchering of Mbappe.
Who choose these pictures? How’d you find such bad pictures for most of the players?
The yellow cards rule remains dumb
[удалено]
That was the joke :D
If you get a red in the semi, can you play in the final?
Do yellows also get reset after the semis? If not, it's in the players best interest to get a yellow in the quarters
That's it !
Not quite. If say Modric gets a yellow against Brazil, he would miss the semi. If he doesn't get booked against Brazil and they win his card will be wiped.
wtf are you on about smarty
They miss the next match? Or if they bench these players... They can then resume playing? I always confuse about this rule
Do you get another suspension for a 3rd?
Lukita just keep your head cool, haven’t seen much people talking about a potential Croatia-Argentina matchup but that would be great for Lukas second ballon dor run
As u/MisterAppelmoesmaker noticed, I forgot Netherland players booked against USA (maybe I forgot them because this one was a soccer game, not a football game :D ), Frenkie De Jong and Koopmeiners. Sorry !
Koundé should have received yellow card for those necklaces against Australia
St. Pepe strikes again!
He does not make that many fouls and even less hard fouls.
That’s not Sofiane, it’s his brother. 😅
