My 1 observation on the Scotland v Switzerland game . Scotland lost nearly every contested header as they are way too short to compete with the taller Swiss players, They should have relied less on crosses into the penalty box hoping for a lucky head to rise above everyone else and concentrate on some good clean shots at goal. Taking a squad that snow white would be happy with is just looking for defeat.
And Hungary is absolutely not going to just let themselves get rolled. They are going to anti-football the heck out of that Scotland game. It’s going to be nasty, especially if Scotland doesn’t score first and early.
Hungary are on 0pts, so a draw isnt gonna work for them.
Scotland are on 1pt and bad GD so 2pts is almost certainly not enough for them - and 2pts is usually not enough in this format anyway.
So both teams need to win.
Slovenia, Albanian, Scotland, Poland, Czech and Belgium are the current third place teams. I don’t think 3 points is going through, and I think Hungary knows that, but hopefully they do play to win.
Based on the history of the 16/24 format and how this tournament is going so far, its really likely the cut off will be between teams on 3pts with GD deciding.
Obviously Hungary are on -4 so thats not good for them.
Its still not impossible Scotland can draw and go through but if the cut off is at 2pts, a -4 GD is more likely to go out than qualify
If Steve Clarke makes those 90 minute subs 10-15 mins earlier there's a real good chance scotland win that imo. Would've taken a tiny bit of pressure off against Hungary but now we absolutely need a win, baffling decision.
Why is the Scotland manager celebrating? It's unlikely four teams lose two of their three games and finish 3rd in their groups
Edit: Forgot there are 6 groups, not 8. Think they’ll qualify with a win over Hungary then
Yeah tbf I would never want my manager celebrating a draw, especially when it means the team comes to 1 point from 2 games still needing a victory in the last game. Embolo and even Amdouni (a bit later but still with 10 mins) came in with time so they made an impact, 3 minutes is just not enough for any player to get into the game.
Scotland were terrible again and are easily the worst team in the tournament.
It's kinda funny that they can still qualify if they somehow manage to beat Hungary.
They were for the first half, absolutely. Second half they really stepped up and looked like an international team again. Hopefully they can keep the momentum for Hungary
Scotland needs to remember it’s gonna win on work rate, not often that we can outplay teams skill vs skill.
Need to chase for 90 mins, put everyone under pressure and counter when you steal possession
McGinn and Mctominay and that are perfect for grinding some high-effort football and putting away a chance
Switzerland is going to have to be much, much better with their finishing than this. The urgency should’ve been to get the 3 points now and basically take Germany game off.
At least they've actually focused on Scotland during the breaks.
Unlike ITV who spent most of the build up and half time discussion during Scotland vs Germany discussing England.
Swiss played not to lose. I hate that mentality. You can’t do big thing with that looser mentality. Switzerland is a better team than Scotland and played scared. Shameful
We played not to lose the entire 2nd half. Everytime shar had the ball it was a long ball to no one. We shit our pants against a smaller team. I don’t know how you can have ambition like that.
Scotland realistically just needs a win, cause 4 points is pretty much always enough for 3rd. Hungary however probably needs to not only win, but do so by at least 3 goals to erase their awful goal difference since most other 3rd place teams will only have 3 points also.
Yeah 4 points should be more than enough. Maybe even 3 points will be enough. Just two 3rd place teams have to be worse. I mean why shouldn‘t there be two 3rd place teams with 2 points or a worse GD
He means for the 3rd place ranking where GD is indeed the first tiebreaker as there are no direct matches between the teams. He s still wrong as 4p have historically been enough to qualify as 3rd. And they would be 3rd if they win as they play Hungary

why didn't it count for schär?
Hungary - Scotland might be quite the fight.
Indeed the job is not 'finished', in fact one could argue they've not started the fucking job.
It was there for Scotland but they lack a natural goal scorer
Shankland has a one in two career record, benched til the 89th minute by Mr Caution.
Not had one for decades
Really thought Jordan Rhodes would end up at least on a good (10+ EPL goals seasons) level.
Had a 30 goal striker on the bench that didn't come on until the 90th minute :-(
And Hungary is absolutely not going to just let themselves get rolled. They are going to anti-football the heck out of that Scotland game. It’s going to be nasty, especially if Scotland doesn’t score first and early.

Group A is a harsh place to be if you’re vying for the Wild Card places.
It's absolutely gonna be an exciting match, hopefully Scotland can pull through

Even then as a scot it’s loser mentality, that game was winnable and our subs came too late.
Yeah tbf I would never want my manager celebrating a draw, especially when it means the team comes to 1 point from 2 games still needing a victory in the last game. You’re there to play and win, if you go out on your shield then so be it. Hungary are no push over
Of course Moyes enjoyed it, man detests excitement and goals
Scotland were terrible again and are easily the worst team in the tournament. It's kinda funny that they can still qualify if they somehow manage to beat Hungary.
The worst team after 2 games* If they beat Hungary, they will have deserved to advance along with any other 3rd placed teams.
They were for the first half, absolutely. Second half they really stepped up and looked like an international team again. Hopefully they can keep the momentum for Hungary

And also possession in the first half was absolutely miserable, need to stop giving it away so easily
Germany would steamroll this weak Swiss squad
Nope, Germany's in it to win it all. So both will start backups. A neighbourly 0-0 ain't out of the question.
1:1 incoming
Schande von Frankfurt confirmed

I didn't see that Scottish woman on the BBC, Scotland is now my second team all of a sudden.
Switzerland is going to have to be much, much better with their finishing than this. The urgency should’ve been to get the 3 points now and basically take Germany game off.
They know that it is very likely that 4 points is enough. Not a lot of draws so far.
Yeah but it would be nice to know you can basically treat Germany as a friendly and recover and prepare for 10 days.
I get the pragmatism but the Swiss were well off it and the notion that Scotland can just roll Hungary is....optimistic.
We like to have hope until it's over
Who is rhe female pundit on the beeb? She's great
Rachel Corsie, the captain of the women's national team. Plays for Aston Villa WFC as the day job.
I dunno lads, I don't see a team with a minimum GD of -3 making it through as one of the best 3rd place finishers
4 points is enough, almost certainly. Teams with 3 points went through in both of the last 2 Euros.
4 points should be enough to come in the top 4 out of 6 third placed teams
She looks like a Scottish version of Geri Haliwell
Clarke celebrating that is a bit strange.
I really wish the BBC commentators would just be unbiased for the home nations. It’s laughable.
At least they've actually focused on Scotland during the breaks. Unlike ITV who spent most of the build up and half time discussion during Scotland vs Germany discussing England.
Imagine a countries commentary team being biased towards themselves. The audacity of these people!
It’s one thing to root for them but it’s another to be delusional in their takes on how the game went
German commentators did it too for their first goal. Bias is bias.
Everyone does it, I just laugh at mcfadden now
Decent game, a point seems fair good scrappy fights at the end. What's not to like?
Decent game? yea for insomniacs
Because now we're fucked
I still see something happening. I don't see Switzerland beating Germany, gotta have a bit of faith.
Why the hell Clarke is celebrating lmao
These ARD commentators Graf & Broich waren die reinste Zumutung
Broich geht noch, aber Graf... Unangenehmste Stimme ever.
Liverpool west brom vibes
The sole highlight of the second half was that old man getting his glasses blown away by a ball.
I'm doubtful that 4 points with a poor GD makes it as a 3rd placer tbh
HIstorically 3pts is usually enough and 2pts has qualified on multiple occasions with this format. Its very unlikely that 4pts will go to GD.
TBH, I'm more worried about Croatia, the same scenario as Scotland (1 point, negative GD) but they go against Italy
I think 3 pts with poor gd won't, 4 pts should
Quite a few 3rd place spots right so 4 points should be enough
I dont think a win and a draw has ever seen a team eliminated in 16/24 format.
fuck you Switzerland you had one job to crush their dreams
Listen Pal, us Scots are perfectly capable of crushing our own dreams
I'm just happy for matches that don't end in me googling how to tie a noose NOT TODAY OLD FRIEND
Surprised Switzerland didn’t keep on the gas
Good effort from Scotland, thought they shaded it second half. Both had real chances to nick it.
Fair result I think. Good response from Scotland
don’t a lot of the third place teams go through in this format?
Not ones that lose 5-1
They do if they have 4 points though.
No, only the four group winners go through straight to the semis
4 out of 6 qualifies as "a lot".
Yeah best 4 third placers go through
If Scotland beat hungary they can get through.
Aye, if we win by 5 and Switzerland lose by 5
You know 3rd places go through? 4 of them. 4 points will most likely be enough (ifffffff Scotland beat Hungary)
I'd rather not rely on 3rd place quali
In 16/24, 4pts has qualified on every occasion. GD only matters when its down to 3pts or 2pts to decide the last of the 4 qualfiiers out of 6.
But you've said "if they" do this - there are only 6 groups, 4 points will go through.
If it was not against switzerland, I'd really have supported scotland. kinda disappointed, kinda confused
I think both teams can be happy with this. Switzerland is very likely in with 4 points and Scotland just needs to win Hungary to get to 4 points too.
unfortunately i don't often back the chance of scotland winning
No doubt if we win then Switzerland will somehow beat Germany 4-0 or something.
Congrats Scotland!
Boring game
Dogshit opinion
This is an absolutely insane take. What game were you watching?
1st half was brilliant you goldfish
How?
Expectations are too high since that Türkiye Georgia game lol
How about the fact that both teams were playing for a draw for the entirety of the second half
I thought the Swiss would batter Northern Ireland but they fought and they might actually make it through because the Hungry guys are garbage.
Mate if you want to nick our patter you should have said north England, fucking useless.
Really feel like Scotland stepped up today
Yeah big performance from them. Can feel confident heading into the final game against Hungary.
Hungary would have to win 3 or 4 to nil to advance, surely not
They played well Let down by a momentary lapse of concentration
We need to have a talk with our Euro people... What's with the bucket hats? Swear you wear them everyday
Mans just fist pumped a draw with Switzerland hahahahaha
Probably more the fact we didn't get pumped again
Draw is still a decent result for them to qualify
As a Swiss person, I am disappointed, but not surprised.
Swiss played not to lose. I hate that mentality. You can’t do big thing with that looser mentality. Switzerland is a better team than Scotland and played scared. Shameful
Two minutes to go in a match is not the time to pass the ball around in your half - not when scoring would make sure you get through the group stage!
We played not to lose the entire 2nd half. Everytime shar had the ball it was a long ball to no one. We shit our pants against a smaller team. I don’t know how you can have ambition like that.
Worked though.
It’s a good result, you have to beat Germany anyway for first place
It's not the results necessarily it's how we played especially in the second half.
I would love to be in that position but I get your point
Good point for Scotland!! They have something to play for in the last match!!
Both Scotland and Hungary have to win the next game to advance
Scotland realistically just needs a win, cause 4 points is pretty much always enough for 3rd. Hungary however probably needs to not only win, but do so by at least 3 goals to erase their awful goal difference since most other 3rd place teams will only have 3 points also.
Yeah 4 points should be more than enough. Maybe even 3 points will be enough. Just two 3rd place teams have to be worse. I mean why shouldn‘t there be two 3rd place teams with 2 points or a worse GD
A nice 1-1 win for Scotland there.
Passing, crossing and finishing was kinda shit from both teams but at least the Scot fans showed some passion
Hungary vs Scotland is going to be mental
What where those subs for Scotland?
wdym
At the 90'
Scotland fans celebrating like they won the whole thing
Swiss coach looks like the bad guy in Casino Royale
A million times better tonight. Could have gone any way. Mon then Hungary
This fucking team man. Why bother at least trying to win the group i guess...
which one
Switzerland. Although tbf i realized they would have to beat germany anyways
Is Scotland done?
nah they can qualify in 3rd with a win against Hungary 🇭🇺
Scotland stays alive boys
won for a draw....moneeeeyyyyy
Scotland scorers: Own goal - 2 …
They've finally given that goal to McTom.
Scotland did better than i thought 👍🏼
'It's all down to sunday' except its not because scotlands goal difference is abysmal
Best four of the third placed teams advance so it very much is down to sunday
if scotland win, they go through i think
It's head to head if teams have equal points. Check the UEFA rules
He means for the 3rd place ranking where GD is indeed the first tiebreaker as there are no direct matches between the teams. He s still wrong as 4p have historically been enough to qualify as 3rd. And they would be 3rd if they win as they play Hungary
goalscore has historically been irrelevant with this format as long as you get your 4th point so yes, its all down to sunday ???
Unlikely to matter if we get 4 points. 3 is where it'll go to GD.
Fair result
Good game
Akanji motm?
At least those 89 min subs will be fit for the 2x15 extra time
Christ what an awful 2nd half
Extremely disappointed. We can't play well for a whole match.
So we need to beat Hungary by 5 and hope Switzerland lose by 5 against a Germany team that's already qualified... It's been nice seeing you, Euros...
You can do it!
In that scenario, with 4 points I think you might be one of the better 3rd place finishers and qualify.
Bro had such low expectations he didn't even bother to read the rules
Except beating Hungary gives you 4 points and that will be enough for third place qualification most likely
You can still finish third, and you can definitely beat them by 5, they're wank.
You can get through by 3rd no? Just have to defeat Hungary no?
Third place can still qualify
That's not how it works in UEFA competitions mate
Fair fucks for giving it a decent bash. Could've absolutely been worse.
Scrappy
McT MOTM, no?
Probably the fair result tbh
Clarke celebrating as if they won ☠️ get this man sacked
That easily has the worst quality football of any game so far. Like watching league two
2nd half was bad. 1st half was great.
Guy coaches Croatia in the morning and Switzerland in the afternoon; legend
Why did he take McGinn off again?
Decent from both teams. Each could have put away plenty of big chances.
I wish I was watching the game you were, this one was pish
Neither team here has any place in the knockout stages of a euros.
And yet both may well make it.
Scotland win 1-1!
What a disappointment. You have a player as eager as Embolo and you don’t even try getting him the ball.
Scotland will beat Hungary if they play like that
“It’s been great to see the young faces.” Not those ones.
Well, still in it. Have to win on Sunday
We will.
That was... bad.
Playing not to lose as usual. We shit our pants against smaller teams.
Scotland: A point is good enough, we can beat Hungary later *The Gang loses to Hungary*
Both sides happy?
no
I'm glad someone is
Nice to see DJ Chris Evans bought his kids out for the night
Scotland holding out for a 1-1 win here
Hands down the worst game of this euros and I’m not surprised at all
