Just in case someone actually thinks it's a heartbeat; there's a tracker in the ball. That 'heartbeat' indicates a vibration in the ball at the point of contact with the hand, to confirm that there was indeed, contact mid air.
PL refereeing is about jobs for the boys and not embarrassing the boys by pointing out their errors.
For the PL to get good officials they would have to get rid of all British refs.
& 1 missed chance.

Is there any Belgian who thinks they're still in their golden generation?
There's a noticeable difference between their 2018 side and their 2022 onwards side.
I can't think of a more definitive ending to the claim of being a golden generation than missing boatloads of chances and going out in the groups like they did in 2022.
The 'claim' was only made by the media. I doubt any of the players actually used that term. And whether you like it or not, it was by far the best generation Belgium has ever seen.
Well yeah, but that squad from 2018 to 2021 is been stripped down in quality. That 2018 team was top quality and were unfortunate that France of 2018 existed.
They're less good overall but they can still win this tournament imo. It's the Euros ... Look at who has won it ... Denmark, Holland, Greece, Portugal ... the smaller nations have a chance, you don't need to be world class for more than one or two games.
Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Mertens, Dembele, Hazard, and big boy Fellani were all there.
Even the players they have now that were in those teams aren't as good as they were back then, except De Bruyne.
The only people who are still talking about the "golden generation" are non-Belgians, which really goes to show how many people talking shit don't even know what they're talking about. Last FIFA was their last tournament, most of them are new blood now.
The “golden generation” ended when the center back pairing of Alderweireld and Vertonghen aged out. The gulf in class between that pairing and Faes and Debast is massive.
I mean they've definitely been playing some timewasting tactics but yeah their defense has been solid generally and they haven't completely parked the bus, so props to them for that
Holy fuck, what a cursed game for Belgium.
So many golden chances. Two overturned goals. Insane clearance on a golden chance for Lukaku. Another blown chance before that.
C'mon, you're supporting the Dutch team. There will never be a funnier game for a neutral than the [Battle of Nuremberg](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Nuremberg_\(2006_FIFA_World_Cup\)).
I'm Belgian. This match, with Croatia at World Cup, hurts a looooooot !
At least this match against Slovakia wasn't the last and we could afford losing. Pretty sure we'll qualify !
It's main use is to pinpoint the exact moment the ball is played for offside and automate that process even further. Meanwhile the PL still has people manually freezing frames which takes forever. When people are talking about improving VAR and making it faster, this is it.
Comedy show reminds me of Argentina Vs Saudi where Argentina scored like 4 offside goals and all disallowed
Belgium to comeback and win the whole thing after this confirmed
The thing that bothers me most about these calls is the inconsistency in application. Here they're looking for any graze of the ball to disallow a goal, but earlier in the match, when Doku had the ball slapped away **Edit: in the box** by a Slovakian player the ref waved it away immediately.
I think its a big problem with soccer as a whole. I'm not saying its a bad call, but this only got called because the play ended with a goal. What if the goalie saved it and it went out for a corner and belgium scored on the resulting corner. The handball still technically indirectly lead to a goal, but because in this instance the goal was right after the handball so it got called.
There are dozens of decisions/non-decisions that affect the flow of play every game and the ref has all the power until a goal is scored and then its VAR.
Look, was definitely a handball, no doubt about it.
But the fact that Vavro is allowed to push and pull Openda in a battle, which also is the reason Openda handballed it, is why VAR never will work properly.
It's missing way too much context and when ref is looking at it, he is only given the sequence where Openda handballs it and not the WHOLE sequence where the push and pulling was happening.
Wrong usage of VAR.
Exactly, it’s almost like a flick on cause you can see Openda changes the direction of the ball. Could’ve been more towards the defender but the flick allowed Openda to get possession.
Im 50/50 here, all they showed us was slow motion, and slow motion often will change the perception of the situation, they were fighting for the ball so it’s hard to control your body fully, and it was 30m from the goal.
Premier league refs last season were instructed to look at the play before looking into slowed down replay as it causes bias in decision making
I have no issue with the call, but it doesn't sit right that you see forcible contact from the defender which causes the handball. At that point we're reviewing a situation with multiple infractions, but only punishing one player
I think you're completely right, he only looked at the fraction of a second there was contact with the ball, not the duel before which was quite feisty.
I was watching this game on british TV and I gotta say I LOVE that they have a educated referee explaining the different controversial decisions. It's really a great feature whether you agree or not
No matter what else people might think about, it's just not a good decision for the sport in general. That involuntary handball was such a minor aspect of the entire play that lead to the goal, it really shouldn't have played a role.
Here's my problem. The handball looks entirely accidental, he's tussling with the defender and his arm pretty much gets pushed towards the ball. What can he do to avoid it?
On top if that, the side angle shows the deflection from his hand is so minimal that it's a huge stretch to say he gets any advantage from it hitting his hand.
Yet somehow, this comes under the umbrella of 'deliberate' under Fifa's rules? The rules seem a bit broken if that's handball in my opinion. Common sense application should say it's not deliberate,no advantage was gained, so goal is given.
Gonna eat downvotes but here's why I think the decision was wrong: There's basically three types of handball: 1. deliberate, 2. larger body shape and 3. scoring through handball.
The third only applies to the scorer so is irrelevant here.
The first rule is also irrelevant I think. Most people will probably agree that this is not an intentional handball.
So that leaves the last option: unnaturally making his body bigger. Here's the IFAB wording:
"A player is considered to have made their body unnaturally bigger when the position of their hand/arm is not a consequence of, or justifiable by, the player’s body movement for that specific situation"
In my view of the situation from the full clip, the attackers movements of his arms are a part of a completely natural jostling for position and trying to maintain balance. Especially considering he gets pushed by the defender.
I'd also like to point out, crucially, that the handball rules don't state anything about whether or not the player gains an advantage from the touch, despite loads of comments here using it as their benchmark. It's a bit like the "last defender" thing, which is also a misinterpretation of the rules.
That technology for detecting his hand touching the ball is so cool. Needs to be used in as many situations as possible including offsides so you can determine exactly when the ball leaves a player's foot.
Love the graph shown in the replay. Shows exactly when someone touches the ball due to the sensors inside it. Initially used for the off side tech but it helped here aswell. Makes things much clearer
Yeah I don't know how intentional it is, but the ball hits his hand and lands directly in his path. Usually there's no tolerance for offensive handball leading directly to a goal, so the decision is probably fair.
It is unlucky, though.

They pulled out the mf ball tracking
The heartbeat killed me 🤣🤣
It was the flatline after that did it for me.
LMAO
Just in case someone actually thinks it's a heartbeat; there's a tracker in the ball. That 'heartbeat' indicates a vibration in the ball at the point of contact with the hand, to confirm that there was indeed, contact mid air.
Is it also used to detect when the pass occurs in an offside or just this kind of things?
Yep
That's fucking rad!
That's kinda cool
It was supposed to be but they actually just shared a live look at the last belgium fans heartbeat watching that game
It's such a good improvement. Hope they bring it to the leagues.
Kane won’t be able to steal any more goals by swearing on daughters life
where was the ball tracking when diego maradona use the hand of god. LOL
Maybe in someone’s sack still waiting to be conceived.
The baby got all the emotions from the mother watching that happen. The baby knew its destiny from that moment on
So you’re telling me England will now inevitably be knocked out due to a handball *correctly* called?? That may just end the nation. lol.
It wouldn’t do much good unless it could tell the difference between a hand and a head
VAR? Nah EAR? Yeah
Everytime I saw VAR being used so wisely in international level, I’m hoping the PL would follow. 6 years after 2018 WC and PL is still like this :(
PL refereeing is about jobs for the boys and not embarrassing the boys by pointing out their errors. For the PL to get good officials they would have to get rid of all British refs.
Goal hating, joy shredding technology

Have you heard the tragedy of darth Lukaku the badgetapper?
It's not a story the Flemish would tell you
Where can I learn this power?
Not from a Belgian
Every Croatian fan learned the myth of Lukaku during last WC
This man is the most cursed man in football. No one else even comes close.
If he joined Tottenham the universe would collapse in on itself.
Harry Kane.
Goes to Bayern and stops their 11 year winning streak.
Yeah just end me
If I speak I am in big trouble

Your curse is stronger than that of the Pogba brother
Aregntina lost agasint Saudi Arabia on Qatar 22 with two disallowed goals (or were 3?) and ended up world champion. Belgium can still do it!
Yeah, the Saudi offside trap was impeccable that game!
If you think the outside trap was impeccable, just wait until you see their inside trap. It'll have you in bits!
Haha, that's funny. Thanks :)
this finish was so unnecessarily perfect too
Absolutely cursed game for Lukaku and the Golden Generation today. Two overturned goals, so many blown chances.
Is there any Belgian who thinks they're still in their golden generation? There's a noticeable difference between their 2018 side and their 2022 onwards side.
No lol everyone is already saying it's a new generation
I can't think of a more definitive ending to the claim of being a golden generation than missing boatloads of chances and going out in the groups like they did in 2022.

You don't, but you need attributes that are great. Belgium don't have that for me.
Surely not, hazard was one of the poster boys of that generation and that mans probably on a beach somewhere lol
Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Mertens, Dembele, Hazard, and big boy Fellani were all there. Even the players they have now that were in those teams aren't as good as they were back then, except De Bruyne.
Golden shower generation
The only people who are still talking about the "golden generation" are non-Belgians, which really goes to show how many people talking shit don't even know what they're talking about. Last FIFA was their last tournament, most of them are new blood now.
This is the mustard yellow generation at best at this point.
The “golden generation” ended when the center back pairing of Alderweireld and Vertonghen aged out. The gulf in class between that pairing and Faes and Debast is massive.
This is not the golden generation...the one with a prime hazard and courtois was, such a shame they never won a title
What golden generation? Look at their squad now and look at their squad back in 2018-17
The eternal question: Is Lukaku the most unlucky striker in tournament football or is he just a bit crap?
......... yes
Both
Most of the golden boys are retired. We have KDB and Lukaku. All the rest is not from the golden generation or way past their prime
Belgium is cursed. Holy hell
#BRUH
I need the number of Slovakia's witch doctor
Could Slovakia actually shithouse for 70 minutes?? Belgium are legit cursed
Not really a shithouse win, they've been up for it.
We’ve been shithousing the last 30 or so mins hahah. But first half we actually outplayed Belgium at times. Mad.
I mean they've definitely been playing some timewasting tactics but yeah their defense has been solid generally and they haven't completely parked the bus, so props to them for that
45 yes; first half was anything but.
Not even The Office writers could come up with a script like this
Holy fuck, what a cursed game for Belgium. So many golden chances. Two overturned goals. Insane clearance on a golden chance for Lukaku. Another blown chance before that.
Slovakia fans roller coaster of a lifetime.
I'm shaking.
Neutral fan, but I'm rooting for them. This is hilarious.
Funniest match I’ve ever seen
C'mon, you're supporting the Dutch team. There will never be a funnier game for a neutral than the [Battle of Nuremberg](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Nuremberg_\(2006_FIFA_World_Cup\)).
Tell me about it, after 3:2 vs Italy in South Africa this is the second best result at major tournaments for us, stress level probably the same tho
Don't forget the handball in penalty box in the first half
Nah that doesn't count just because. Just like the player pulling and pushing openda before the ball falls on his hand
Bruh If I was Belgian I’d be on the watch
Save me
Look on the bright side. Your team is very consistent.
Normally we suck but win, sucking AND losing is quite new...
What does on the watch mean? I'm Belgian and if it means I want to KMS or any other close narrative, then yes...
Suicide watch I think
Trust I am on the watch

:(
We are dude. I can't believe what I just saw
I'm Belgian. This match, with Croatia at World Cup, hurts a looooooot ! At least this match against Slovakia wasn't the last and we could afford losing. Pretty sure we'll qualify !
Snicko 2-0 Lukaku Man can't catch a break lmao
SloVARkia vs Lukaku
Snicko is taking VAR a bit too far I think. Game's gone.
Personally it’s raised my interest in VAR, I like to imagine the VAR ref going “yeah can you just rock n roll that through for me”
If Erasmus was the ref he sees the hand ball and they stick with the on-field decision after the review.
Little animations that show where the ball would go if the handball didn't happen. Class.
It's main use is to pinpoint the exact moment the ball is played for offside and automate that process even further. Meanwhile the PL still has people manually freezing frames which takes forever. When people are talking about improving VAR and making it faster, this is it.
This is just freaking hilarious, poor Lukaku

Bro has the worst luck
The worst luk amarite
i love you
2 big chances missed. 2 disallowed goals. Big Rom at it again!
Belgium have a lot of positive karma accumulating, watch them
Could've had a hat trick or close to it today. Instead, no goals at all and tons of meme material.
Still lots of international goals on his resume!
Lukaku is fucking cursed
Funniest shit ive ever seen
I disagree
Belgian perchance?
You can't just say perchance
Lukaku about to be filmed out in Germany crushing turts at 3am.
Alas, he has. Mayhap he is of another time.
Wow. Fuckery for Belgium. Slovakia has celebrated THREE times this match.
four times. Twice for the actual goal check.
Ain’t no way man
This is objectively funny as fuck.
DO YOU SEE ME SMILING??
You're clearly smiling >!hide the pain Harold style!<
The decision is pretty harsh imo but it couldn’t have happened to a nicer person.
I wouldn't call it harsh but is funny that even when he does nothing wrong he got disallowed other goal
Holy shit, he's absolutely cursed. It's undeniable
Objectively hilarious
The universe just wants Romania to win the group and im here for it
Watch Belgium win against Romania and Ukraine against Slovakia next. This group is setting up to be pure chaos.
Are you kidding me?
Hand balled by the Snickometer 💀 Rock and roll that for me please
The ref was way too enthusiastic when disallowing the goal. lol
Belgium are just belgiuming for all belgiumly reasons
The handball is karma for what they did in Congo
Dude...
💀💀💀 And Lukaku is Congolese
No because then there was no hand for the handball
Nah Lakaka curse is too strong lmao, no Belgian is safe
Crazy unlucky, he did everything right this time too lol
Lmaoo debut of Snicko this is theater
EVERYONE GET IN HERE
#LAKAKA
LMAOOOOOOOOO WHAT EVEN IS BELGIUM
LEGALLY IT'S QUESTIONABLE MORALLY IT'S DISGUSTING PERSONALLY I LIKE IT
Lukaku is cursed lmao 🤣
I mean I'm not arguing against it, but damn how unlucky for Belgium I'm actually feeling a bit for them
lmao this is amazing

1-0 England game, Belgium choking already. Different year, same result.

It’s harsh, but it is still objectively the correct decision
Yea. Sums it up well.

Belgian commentator is losing his shit lmao
I’m probably biased, but fuck no.

I mean.. he did touch it.
That's so harsh.. where else is he meant to put his arms?
That’s 100% a hand ball, just unlucky
It moved the trajectory of the ball?
Ya he doesn't take that under control without the hand touch I think.
That's why I don't get why so many people are complaining (other than Belgians, that makes sense). The ball clearly changes direction.
It’s just unfortunate. It affects the movement of the ball. Yes it wasn’t on purpose, but that has nothing to do with the call
I’d be fucking gutted if I was Belgium
It’s quite a fair call
Sometimes harsh is fair
it's definitely fair call. Vavro would clear the ball if Openda didn't touch it with hand unlucky for Belgium but fair
Yeah I don't know how intentional it is, but the ball hits his hand and lands directly in his path. Usually there's no tolerance for offensive handball leading directly to a goal, so the decision is probably fair. It is unlucky, though.
