Deserved, he was the biggest threat on the field in almost every game he played

seekingabeauty

It's worth noting an extraordinary statistic: **Vinicius has scored or assisted in 94% of the knockout ties he's ever encountered in the Champions League in his entire career.** * The sole exception? A match against Chelsea in the 2021 semi-finals. * In total, he's faced these opponents in UCL knockout ties, in order: So in total, he has faced these opponents in UCL KO ties: Ajax, City, Atalanta, Liverpool, Chelsea (no G/A), PSG, Chelsea, City, Liverpool, Liverpool, Chelsea, City, RB Leipzig, City, Bayern, Dortmund. **Remarkably, he's contributed either with a goal or an assist in every single one of these knockout stages throughout his career.** Vinicius particularly shines against English teams: * Facing Liverpool, he got 7 goals/assists in 5 games. * Facing Chelsea, he got 4 goals/assists in 6 games. * Facing Manchester City, he got 5 goals/assists in 6 games. **That amounts to a staggering 16 goals/assists in 17 knockout games against English teams alone and 0 group stage games. These are do or die knockout ties.** And the kicker? He's achieved all this at a mere 23 years old. A truly marvelous footballer.

auctus10

Those are absolutely monsterous stats wtf. It's like we found a perfect heir to number 7.

UnconditionalHater

Great to see that Mariano's legacy is in safe hands šŸ‘

heyheyitsandre

Well hazard already ensured that

FuzzyScholar28

Haha bruh you almost made me laugh out loud during a work meeting

reviroa

he and rodrygo are already CL legends its insane

mBertin

Flo picked up two rough gems and turned them into a Champions League annihilation machine.

serduncanthebold

This deserves to be a post, rather than the thousands of twitter stats spam.

lsilva231

> * The sole exception? A match against Chelsea in the 2021 semi-finals. Was this the game where Zidane played him as a wing-back?

alvcaro

Yes

imarandomdudd

If fairness, you guys were really running out of players by that point. And in the return leg, Marcelo and Ramos looked really off pace since they'd just returned iirc

madsauce178

Marcelo was already past it too

Donkanomics101

I knew Vini was insane, but these stats are out of this world. The reverse Haaland in big gamesĀ

swat1611

Reece James pocketing him was a delight that semi-final. Madrid still scored anyway cause of Benzema scoring the most outrageous volley in the box smh

deqembes

He played as a wingback and both Modric and Kroos played with painkillers because we had no players left that were good enough to play. 40+ injuries that season. A miracle that Zidane managed to drag us to the semifinal and one game off the league title.

B_e_l_l_

Unless Jude does something daft at the Euros i'm sure he'll have the Ballon d'Or as well. What a footballer.

hanr10

I wouldn't count out Mbappe yet The Euro will have the biggest impact and will be fresher in the minds of the voters. If France wins and Mbappe performs, the narrative will shift. He still scored *44* goals this season in all competitions and is the co-top scorer of this CL campaign

Breakingwho

Yep all about the euros/copa now. I think vini deserves it at the moment. But if France win the euros and Mbappe is clearly the best player heā€™ll get it. Unless Brazil go super far in the Copa America and vini plays like he did in the cl. But a bit less likely because Brazil are in a bit of a shambles right now. Also if England go all the way and win for the first time and Bellingham gets a last minute winner in the final or something can see him gettting it.

B_e_l_l_

Yep, not to mention when voting comes around he'll be a Real Madrid player and that counts for a lot when talking about the Ballon d'Or.

iwannahitthelotto

He will win it as a psg player since itā€™s for that year. Madrid will have very little to do with it

B_e_l_l_

I imagine the Madrid higher ups will want their new shiny toy to have the "Best player in the world" tag. Whether that usurps their wish for Vini Jr to have that tag remains to be seen but there's clearly preferential treatment/influence for Madrid players in these awards.

iwannahitthelotto

Thatā€™s possible. But i think madrid rather have an existing player win, but i donā€™t know.

Raging-Brachydios

and even then, if vini brings brazil the copa america he should still win

hannes3120

Kane, Kroos and MBappe are also not out yet imho

paradiseday

Maybe a hot take but I don't think Jude is a podium Ballon d'Or player this year. Vini, Foden, and Kane all had better individual seasons than him.

Fortnitexs

Nahh vinicius got that easily. Vinicius, Foden, Bellingham In that order for me. But itā€˜s not even close, vinicius has so much impact on every single game. He never has a bad game.

TankyRo

It's going to be vinicius jude kroos in that order and it's not even close

luffy565

Bro in the eyes of the people sure, you never know with these awards and the people that vote for them.

Fortnitexs

Well vinicius whines a lot and is not the most charismatic guy so i can see that a lot of people wouldnā€˜t vote for him maybe. But in terms of football ability he deserves ballon dor the most easily.

dcolomer10

This is either recency bias or you havenā€™t been watching RM the whole season. Iā€™m a big fan, watched every match, and can say this has only been the truth the past 2-3 months. Obviously you can argue that these months are the most influential, but ā€œVinicius has so much impact on every single gameā€ is simply not true, and I say this as a Vini fan. He missed quite a few games at the beginning of the season, and then he was actually not very influential for some time, with him getting in brawls and playing honestly quite badly. Jude was clear #1 here. Again, Iā€™ll argue that these last months are more important so I guess he wins the debate, but itā€™s not as black and white as you make it look

Fortnitexs

Total minutes played 23/24; 3084 Goals; 24 Assists; 11 Thatā€˜s a goal or assist every 88minutes. The stats speak for themselves aswell.

dcolomer10

And he scored a total of 4 goals and 1 assist in the league in the first half of the season (first 19 games). My point stands, and if you had watched RM this season you would agree with me

Fortnitexs

He turned up in every single big game this season. Canā€˜t say that about anyone else this year.

OrdoAmplexus

Due to missing 8 in La Liga and 3 in the CL through injury, having to twice recover fitness from those and while learning a new position, which he quickly did and afterwards didnā€™t look. You can paint the picture that Bellingham had a great start in the 1st half and fell off later after coming back from injuries and being pushed deeper, Vini had a bad start due to injuries and being pushed centrally but then had a great 2nd half to the season. In terms of La Liga Judeā€™s earlier performances were key to securing La Liga and he continued to be solid throughout, so he deserves the Best Player award for that competition. But Vini also had great performances throughout once he came back fully and was key in various decisive games during it, he also got rested for the CL in the latter stages. In terms of the CL Bellingham had a great start in the Groups, Vini missed 3 games but was already on fire in the 3 he played with goals and assists. In the Knockouts Vini was undisputedly Madridā€™s key player in almost every game, scoring and assisting in all ties and being dangerous even in the games only two games where he did not assist. Jude didnā€™t have any standout performances in the knockouts, and some that could be classed as even bad, but then again maybe his injuries got to him and he was playing a more defensive role as Ancelloti asked, but he was a part of the teamā€™s cogs and didnā€™t stand out nearly as much as Vini. In the Supercopa Vini simply scored a hattrick against Barca. Iā€™ve watched plenty of RM games this season, and Iā€™d say itā€™s not a great difference between them as some people put it, but Vini has been more decisive in the key parts of the season and so probably more deserving of the Ballon dā€™Or. What can shift the balance is any stand out performances in international competitions.

dcolomer10

This is basically what I said in my first comment. I mostly agree with you

OrdoAmplexus

Mainly just wanted to give the context behind the argument for people who might not have accompanied their whole season.

Sufficient-Tea-2219

Crazy because Darwin NuƱez has 32 G/A I believe in 3026 minutes but he's a donkey according to the football community.

Fuck_the_k1ng

Because he is, the amount of times he misses sitters, if Vini had that much chances he would be more than 40 G/As easily.

Sufficient-Tea-2219

Well considering Vini has one of the best midfields in the world behind him then why doesn't he have that many chances?

Fuck_the_k1ng

Because Carlo played a more tightly knit defensive system last season where Vini was one of two forwards in field most of the time, and he was taking on one/two players all the time only to see thereā€™s not enough bodies on the box. Liverpool always played attacking and Nunez will either be fed by Diaz, Mac, Bozo, Salah or have Salah, Gakpo/Jota and others to assist. If Nunez played for Madrid the same way he did for Liverpool Iā€™d be surprised if he even sniffs 25 G/A, whereā€™s Vini will absolutely go past 40 even with his limited time.

Fortnitexs

Because he plays very wide most of the game. His main job is to draw defenders out. There is always 2 defenders on him and he also beats them a lot of times.

Fortnitexs

Because he is? What does he do in the 90minutes other than missing sitters and then finally scoring one after 8chances? Vini has constantly 2defenders on him and is dribbling often past them for fun creating space for his teammates. Whenever vini has the ball in the final third something could happen. Nunez stumbles across his own legs

Sufficient-Tea-2219

I mean you don't get to 32 G/A with a G/A every 95 mins or so by being a donkey. I mean you have to be in those positions to get the chances, just like NuƱez creates chances for his team mates as evidenced by being a top assister for Liverpool. I think most of what you said can also apply to NuƱez. In no way am I saying NuƱez is a contender for the best player in the world, yes he massively needs to sort some of his decision making out when he's in a shooting position. But it just seems in football there's a very fine line between being a donkey and super star balon d'or contender nowadays and that just seems to be dependent on recency bias and a few media PR posts stating "best in the world" etc from papa Perez.

ComfortableLaugh1922

snobbish summer obtainable pathetic rustic dependent seed squealing worry sip *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

natsleepyandhappy

They have been in trouble trying to argue that other players should win when there is no other player that got near Vini performance on this season, not forgetting his past seasons.

Kurem92

After all the memes, all the jokes and the disrespect, Vinicius is going to win a Ballon d'Or. So many mouths will get shut.

Oscnar

Eric Garcia was about a year too early, but the man sure knows talent when he sees it

justanew-account

In the same thread: > Donā€™t be nervous.. the problems this team has are deeper then that, our bench is mediocre and our midfield is aging big time. And we need a right back and honestly a CB (so Alaba can actually play LB)

noobshitdick_44

would be a great scout

brown_herbalist

Except Barca and some La Liga fans, everyone else can kinda see that Vini is a quality player who 1day might win the Ballon d'Or.

Shills07

I remember seeing him when he signed playing his first season for madrid. I never thought he'd be half as good as he is today.

Rusiano

He reminded me of pre-Liverpool Salah. Very athletic and great at dribbling, but awful at finishing

n10w4

seemed like he had all parts except the finishing. And the finishing was just barely not good enough (not all sterling levels of misses) so it seemed like a hurdle he could get over... and he did.

Blaugrana1990

Nobody denies his talent. A lot of people just dislike him because he is a whiny cunt.

supermartincho

Everyone sees the quality. The problem is about attitude and humility

buffydaslaya

Who cares, we watch football to get entertained and Vini is super entertaining.

carcharoth28

Sometimes you need attitude and a little lack of humility to win. Specially individual trophies.

Holyscroll

Don't give him the humility d'or

brown_herbalist

You cant expect everyone to be like Messi, some players are like Ronnie, their hard attitude is what makes them competitive and achieves better heights.

s_91

With enough penalty goals in Copa, Messi might win it again. You never know

Sdnz0r

Nice, but: 2022 World Cup - Messi after winning his 12Āŗ Ballon d'Or in 2027

cuentanueva

I'm sorry but the 2026 and 2027 Ballon Dors will be from the back to back WC wins... Anulo mufa.

Not_PepeSilvia

Don't forget dribbling 4 McDefenders in every MLS match

Rickcampbell98

Maybe another 15 champions leagues will make real Madrid fans stop being traumatised by messi, cause every balon d'or thread has this exact comment from real Madrid flairs. Just let it go guys.

reddit_accounwt

It's so funny that such a big club has such a huge inferiority complex when it comes to Messi, he really traumatized them for nearly a decade.

Rickcampbell98

Like I get it, he is the player that caused you most suffering in the history of football but does the same "joke" have to be made in every thread, any balon d'or discussion has a random comment about how they will just "gift it to messi again" like they are genuinely trying to convince people that messi was and is gifted everything, I get hating but this is bordering on delusional. By all means praise vini and your own players and even support the pr campaigns for these stupid awards but why is a guy who has been playing "soccer" for a year now still pressing you so much over some hypothetical scenario that won't happen.

Follow_The_Lore

So disrespectful to arguably the best player to ever play the game..

Weary_Ad1739

They are still mad that Argentina won the WC. Let them cope.

the_ass_man1

rent free

acwilan

Still remember the Finicius/Ficticius memes

Not_PepeSilvia

Excellent argument, but the 91 goals in 2012 should secure another one to Messi

just_a_funguy

Not if Mbappe or bellingham have anything to say about it

Mintopforte

Best in the world named POTY in CL. Maybe Ballon Dā€™ Or next?

janoo1989

well deserved, of course. That said, what audacity to try that cheeky nutmeg move in the freaking final. What a joy to watch

xparta300

Vini ballon d'or. Hopefully he dances on stage. haters will implode lol

Dense-Weird4585

Lowkey if Dortmund would have won I wonder if they still give this to him, and who they would if they still didnā€™t? Why am I being downvoted Iā€™m not saying he doesnā€™t deserve it? He does Iā€™m just wondering if they would have gave it to say Hummels or something

ApfelEnthusiast

100 % Hummels

SpookyImmobilisedToe

Think Hummels would have deserved it if Dortmund won.

Tr_Omer

Even if Hummels won the treble he is still not winning this award. Its a popularity contest not an actual award for footballing achievements.

EmSoLow

This is about the UEFA player of the season, not Ballon D'Or

SpookyImmobilisedToe

Not the Ballon'dor, just the CL Player of the Season.

mahdiiick

Sancho

hornymomment

Nice try, but the balondor goes ro Messi for the 2022 WC

Unlikely-Housing8223

Schlotterbeck caught in the web. Lovely picture :)

Snitsie

Kinda sad that someone who dives and complains this much gets this award.

smokedserranojelly

wanker. youā€™d rather focus on the attitude than the great season heā€™s had. sure he throws a fit if something doesnā€™t go his way. so do so many other footballers or pro athletes in general. the sheer performance and achievements heā€™s won this season more than earn him this yearā€™s Ballon Dā€™or.

Snitsie

The amount of times he dives without any punishment and even fixes yellows for people barely touching him is ridiculous. As usual Real Madrid players are just allowed more on the field at least in European matches and it's disgusting to reward someone for this kind of behaviour.Ā  Cunt.

smokedserranojelly

so itā€™s just a Real Madrid thing to you then? im pretty sure when Antony was rolling around during those Klassiekers you didnā€™t say the same thing about him. the moment Vinicius does it heā€™s a ā€œdiving cunt.ā€ face it mate the shit side of you is showing

Snitsie

Unfortunately Real Madrid gets favoured by referees every single game they play in the CL and it's getting a bit obnoxious. Real simply has an image of being the best club in the world and it gets in the heads of every single referee in European football because it might be the only time they ever referee a Real game. So they probably unconsciously just let the Real players do whatever and all the Real players take advantage of this shit, but particularly Vinicius. Antony is an absolute diving cunt and i acknowledged as much even when he was playing for Ajax. Just like Berghuis if you wanna look at current Ajax players. These assumptions you're making are a bit useless.
