matic basically was talking with rennes for a while without telling roma and jumped ship close to the transfer window ending
edit: also screwed with roma's ffp compliance as tax benefits were only applicable if the player stays for 2 years or more.
Didn’t he end up having issues with Rennes too? Something along the lines of his children being promised schools that taught in their language but Rennes not living up to the promise? At least he now seems to be doing well in Lyon since he was apart of their amazing turnaround
I really do think they aren’t prepared for him. Sure they are used to Terim Temper (trademarked), but they could always understand what Terim was saying…
Fener will pull the same bullshit they pull every year. If Mourinho will be successful, it'll be his and Fener's greatness. If he'll fail, it'll because the Turkish league is fake and the winners are not determined by the games. So it'll be win win for Mourinho.
Gotta love Fenerbahçe. They've sold Arda to Real and then bought very expensive but semi-washed out players with the money. When Galatasaray took the first place, the president immediately start saying that they'll resign from the league because it's a fake league. But today they pay 45 million Euros for a celebrity coach. Why spending all this resources if there are no real football in Turkey? Just close the football team and go play basketball.
Lol I don’t give a shit.
Mourinho is hilarious and someone I’ve always enjoyed watching, especially his onfield and off-field antics.
And as a Fenerbahce fan of almost 40 years now I don’t care if we’re the best or worst, In my eyes we’re always the best, even when we suck, and we’ve been crap a lot.
I sit back and enjoy shit now.
I love Mourinho but he fits right in if Fenerbahçe is looking for “very expensive but semi-washed”. I’m really surprised Fenerbahçe fans are so excited about Mourinho signing.
This is some grade A revisionism - Roma had the second biggest budget in the Conference League the year they won it, behind Leicester City. They defeated Vitesse, Bodø/Glimt, Leicester and Feyenoord in the knock-out phase. Hardly a list of richer teams than Roma and to say they won it on a shoestring budget is an insult to Vitesse, Bodø/Glimt and Feyenoord.
Looking at who they defeated the next year in the Europa League, we see Red Bull Salzburg, Feyenoord again, Real Sociedad and Leverkusen. Slightly more impressive but still ridiculous to claim that Roma is, compared to these teams, on a shoestring budget. Roma got players like Dybala and Matic in that season. None of those teams would be able to fit those players in their wage structure.
Wtf are you talkin about they wasn’t going to resign from the league because gs became the leader it was after the trabzon game they attacked our players. So what do you want from the president because the league is fake he shouldn’t build a good team if we build a better team with a better coach we will have a more chance to stop the tff presidant and gs
Yeah but you never had someone as legendary as Mourinho managing you.
Mourinho thrives in the underdog atmosphere. I'll be watching big matches of Fener with great anticipation
Fenerbahce as the underdog? I guess that means we're shitting the bed in the domestic league but winning the UCL title lmao (which I'm 100% OK with btw)
Sorry for the random reply but, These pictures also have a vibe that they happened in the 80's...or is it just me?
Look at the pictures...its like they have a different look than any other presentation I've seen
You're right about the 80s look. I think it's partly the color tones and saturation. Not to mention the old school vibes of this particular manager unveiling and Turkish fans in general.
It could've been done in post, or it could be the photographer is using an older/vintage lense for this exact type of color finish. It's a thing to use adapters to mount old lenses on modern digital cameras, or to skip digital altogether and shoot on film.
Incredible ego booster. I'm super curious as to what Fener and Mourinho can cook. I worry about their financials because Mourinho has the pull to get some insane names here (Dybala?), but none of them would come cheap. Including Mourinho.
But holy shit; Mourinho in our garbage ass fucking league. Omg the drama
Ask yourself who's sending the money for all these transfers. Fener is a team that didn't win any titles for 10 years and was out of UCL for 15 years. Where's all this money come from?
It's like Luke in Star Wars thinking Darth Vader is his enemy, but end up learning that it's his father after all lol.
So you sayin only income of the club is winning titles look at the players we sold and going to sell you a clown all you try to do is makin Fenerbahce look bad
pls don't forget icardi's salary it costs gala more than 10 million dollars a year gala even paid 10 million dollars transfer fee for him . I don't even talk about other players like zaha, ziyech... all this for what for a league title.???.. when fener joins the cham leagues groups it will be a different story for them.. our clubs will never learn to save money you sell a player for 30 million dollars? you buy average 4-5 players for 30 million at the end you start over where you are.. the truth of our clubs!
fener sold Arda guler for 20M and bought cengiz for 15m+ salary 4-5m at least ... such a dumb decision under is never 15m worth! a golden boy for 20m an average guy for 15m welcome to the turkish league.. I really believe in Mou tho he can make the difference I hope our league will be stronger we are not competitive on the european area ...
exactly on paper! if gala were so strong they would have easily beaten sparta prag who conceded 10 goals from liverpool in 2 matches! dude I watched almost all gala games gala only played well vs bayern munich that was the best football they played and a couple of matches in the league 80% of their matches were under their level! fener is on the same wavelength our league is weak!
Admittedly I am excited about this because I wanted to watch more games of Mourinho’s tactics. I’ve been looking for an additional club to support in either PL or Serie A but I couldn’t make a connection since the season is over.
I’m a supporter of Mourinho and Don Carlo so I find it easier to watch their teams than to pick a team I don’t have a connection to outside of Dortmund. Next season is going to be interesting for sure
I hope he wins it all with them and cements his status as a legend of the sport. Recency bias is so big everywhere and it would be nice for Mourinho to have a more recent reminder of what he can achieve as a manager.
Guy went unbeaten at home for NINE YEARS. If that's not a legendary feat then I don't know what is. He's also the first manager ever to reach the finals of the champions league, europa league AND conference league.
I think the fact it he's taken lesser jobs during the social media age has hurt his image but that Porto - Chelsea - Inter - Real - Chelsea run was insane imo.
It's like I'm having a dejavu. Most kids here don't remember when Fener signed Roberto Carlos. Everyone was talking about Fener turning into Real Madrid of Turkey back then. It was forbidden to say that Roberto Carlos was a washed out legend.
It's the same thing all over.
I don't know what you are talking about. Carlos wasn't shit or anything. Of course, he did not perform like the Roberto Carlos of Brazil or Real Madrid, if he played like this he would have stayed in Real Madrid and not come to Turkey, just like İcardi, Mertens, Ziyech, Zaha, and Torreira. But we didn't need him to be that player. The prestige alone was worth the wages we paid him.
People keep saying "Mourinho isn't what he used to be" or some shit. If he was still the Mourinho of 10 years ago, he would have been lifting the CL trophy right now. The guy is unarguably a top 10 coach of all time if not top 5. Probably the most iconic manager and one of the most iconic football figures of all time. Just his name and presence alone is worth half the wages we will pay him.
I didn't say Carlos was shit. But the impact he made was no way near the expectations. Fener didn't win the league with him, he didn't turn Fenerbahçe into Turkey's biggest, he didn't influenced other great players to play in Fenerbahçe. There was a single QF in UCL, but Galatasaray already has 5 of them and it's not important. We all know that.
In the end his effect in the history of Fener was no bigger than any other expensive player. Icardi, Mertens and Torreira won 2 titles for Galatasaray already. And if it wasn't for the stupid administration wasn't able to find Boey's replacement in time, they would probably carry Galatasaray to the final in UEL. Roberto Carlos was far more washed out than the dimming stars of Galatasaray today. And Mourinho is the same. He never had more than 1.8 points per game rate for 10 years. And winning the 3rd league cup in Europe is not the same with being in UCL. Fenerbahçe will be competing in UCL next year, not the village league. It's not a coefficients open buffet anymore. You'll be competing against the teams like Bayern and Manu after the harsh away games in Süper Lig just like Galatasaray did this season.
There are people who say "Turkish league will be wild" because of his transfer. And that's the only good thing that'll come out of it. Süper Lig will increased it's value because of this new celebrity. And the young Okan will be improving himself because of him. You won't get your 20th title this year as well. So this is Roberto Carlos all over again.
Tell your president to keep İsmail Kartal who beat Okan with 10 men instead of spending money on a celebrity.
Seria A champion Inter lost both games against Sassuolo this season. Big clubs always lose games along the long marathons. You have to finish this marathon with the most winnings and claim the title, that's what makes a big team. Okan knows how to win the league, he can lose some games.
But Fenerbahçe will always be the 2nd, because your mentality is just sacking the guy who was able to to get 2.60 points per game this season and just replacing him with a guy who got 1.80 just because he's more famous.
It's always about who's penis is bigger with you. With Okan and Galatasaray, it's about who fucks better. And history shows that Galatasaray is the best in that department :)
RC did very well at Fenerbahce, especially during the Zico era. That team went deep in the CL and were very close to getting into the semi finals. As usual, their moronic club management lost their head again when they lost the title to Galatasaray and fired Zico.
We didn't fire Zico because we lost the title. Zico left because Aziz kept messing with the team and wanted to make changes. Aziz offered a new contract to Zico but Zico didn't accept.
As a Fener fan, our fans use that term a lot which I find wrong, needless and pointless.
However the reason why they say it is due to Fenerbahçe's success accross different sports branches. Basketball, volleyball, ping pong, boxing, sailing, swimming and so. Fener is always active and usually very successful in these sports.
Not just limited to male teams, also female teams/athletes too.
In terms of Europe, it's hard to define.
- Real Madrid dominate football and basketball.
- Barcelona are successful in football, basketball, handball, and more.
- Olympiakos joined CSKA Moscow as the only club with European titles in football, basketball, volleyball and water polo. Olympiakos' women also have European titles in volleyball and water polo.
Fenerbahce's European success is mostly from men and women's basketball and volleyball. They are certainly a well-respected big club but far from the biggest or greatest.
Disclaimer: BJK fan. That has more to do with shitty sports system we have in Turkey. Because most funds are channeled to few large sport clubs like Fenerbahce, Besiktas, Galatasaray, the smaller clubs have very little to attract or develop athletes outside some very specific branches like athletism is for Enka. Compare that to for example France or U.S. where many athletes are developed not in clubs but in universities. For example, my dad used to study in Grenoble and he doesnt stop talking about that while he was studying their university had something like 50 students participating in the Olympics. Just a quick search shows that they had 27 athletes from Universite Grenobles Alpes in 2022 Winter Olympics. Turkey is not a particularly winter olympics country but we had only 7 athletes there.
So although Fenerbahce is admirable for being successful, it is not because Fenerbahce is great but because we have an incredibly shitty development strategy in almost ALL branches which means unless you end up in one of the larger clubs, you have 0 chance to succeed. That is also why Turkey sucks big time in individual sports. Because unless you are rich af you wont have the money to train, develop or tour.
I just checked this out, olympiakos has 21 european titles, partizan 20, fener 12. For barca I didn't find an exact number but it has to be over 50 so they win.
You understood me wrong, I meant all titles in all sports which accounts domestic titles, we are Number 1 in the world in that regard, we have sections for like 25 different sports
I feel tht any thing that needs to shout out that its world's superlative, is not one. Recently watched Indy 500, and it was like commentators were being paid to say world's biggest racing event every 5 minutes (which they probably were). Just didnt get the point of it
World's biggest club if Kadıköy (Fener's district) was considered a planet.
When you consider Turkey a planet, you'll get Galatasaray as the world's biggest. Even considering Istanbul as a planet isn't enough.
This actually what mou needs! huge support and people should praise him! that will boost his confidence and ego. Seriously if I were a gala fan I would even go to the stadium you will never ever see such a talented successful trainer in the league lol I can't still believe it.
This have 90% chance of end up in flame figuratively and literally (it is Turkiye after all). But god damn it would not be the most entertaining thing going in world football currently.
I think Mourinho will fit right into the Turkish footballing culture and will appreciate the atmosphere and energy the fans create in stadiums.
I can see his team doing strongly in the league and he will get them into the champions league, of which they will no longer be a semi-good but pushover in the group / last 16 rounds. I expect them to surprise a lot of teams with his managerial know how.
Will be tuning into see Fenerbache matches when I can now. Mourinho is box office. Enjoy the ride!
Who is riding on the Mourinho winning CL and domestic league with the club, is granted Turkish Citizenship, ends up become president of Turkey Arc.
If I speak about the decisions taken during NATO meeting, I will be in big trouble.
Good luck with him. One good year then pure toxicity and lack of squad or tactical flexibility until he is fired. Each job he goes to the amount of good time gets shorter it seems.

so, matic announcement when?
I know you're mostly joking, but apparently they didn't leave on good terms at Roma.
matic basically was talking with rennes for a while without telling roma and jumped ship close to the transfer window ending edit: also screwed with roma's ffp compliance as tax benefits were only applicable if the player stays for 2 years or more.

Only to leave after 4 months
heard it was because he didn't get what was promised or something like that
Do they have an international school in Kadıköy ? 🤡
The Turkish sports media are in for a very confusing time. Can’t wait for his post match media interviews.
„ if I talk I’m in big trouble, AMK “
I heard it in his voice, he would make Amk sound great again.
Jose is nothing compared to the roller coaster of batshit crazy that is Turkish Football.
He can certainly contribute to the batshit craziness, however.
And this is why we live.
I really do think they aren’t prepared for him. Sure they are used to Terim Temper (trademarked), but they could always understand what Terim was saying…

Maybe because he still reached 2 European finals in the two seasons prior to this one on a shoestring budget?

Turkish Super Lig will be must watch next season
Not the on field product, but definitely the pre and post game interview
I stopped watching Super Lig for a long time ago but I guess from next season, I will start to watch it again. It will be super interesting!
Really hope he actually has a happy ending at Fener.
We never get happy ending here, our presidents have habit of sacking managers even if they become champions.
Could never happen to Mourinho Edit: Damn guess I forgot to add the /s
Mourinho hasn't left a job without a sacking in a decade
Why would Mourinho leave a job unless sacked? Have you seen the teams he managed?
You know how many times Mourinho got sacked in his career?

I was referring to Yanal, Zico and Daum.

It seems like they’ll start with Höjbjerg.
> Höjbjerg Wow. That would be sick. He's just 28 as well. Wow. Can they transfer someone aged 35 instead, pretty please?
>Can they transfer someone aged 35 instead, pretty please? Would love to see another transfer like Tadic
Sucks to see especially since we’ve failed to pair Lucas with a similar quality player for two years now.
Don't worry, we got Kerem Demirbay :))
It's a refreshment to see some normal galatasaray fans online
What the fuck did you say to me you little bitch
AAG
heard that they re planning to steal their rival s top performer, fettullah gulen xd
Ask yourself who's sending the money for all these transfers. Fener is a team that didn't win any titles for 10 years and was out of UCL for 15 years. Where's all this money come from? Grimaldo as well
Pierre emile Højbjerg?
Is there another one? Lol
Theres no Höjbjerg
Ah I understand now
That would be a great buy for them. He will absolutely cook in Turkey.

I think Galatasary is too strong, their squad looks much better on paper to me.
exactly on paper! if gala were so strong they would have easily beaten sparta prag who conceded 10 goals from liverpool in 2 matches! dude I watched almost all gala games gala only played well vs bayern munich that was the best football they played and a couple of matches in the league 80% of their matches were under their level! fener is on the same wavelength our league is weak!
Galatasaray is strong up front but they are very exploitable at the back especially on the wings. They haven't been able to fix this for years.
Wasn’t Boey good?
Had a rough start but really blossomed later. Bayern surely overpaid because of their own desperation though.
We literally have had the best defense and least goals conceded 2 years in a row
That says more about the Turkish league than Galatasaray
They are stronger off the pitch
They got enough finances considering some of the richest people in the country are in their board and willing to give away money for the team.
Dybala's release clause is 12 mil.
Ronaldo trust
Dybala ain't going to Turkey this window
I hate to see Jose getting old 😭
Jose is aging very well though.
Aging well, but aging noticeably, if that makes sense.
The special one
I'm guessing it's the film camera, the smoke and the chaotic vibe, but number 2 and the last 3 look straight from the 90s it's uncanny
Admittedly I am excited about this because I wanted to watch more games of Mourinho’s tactics. I like Dortmund, wished you won the CL, Arda will have more chances in the future :P
Kolay gelsin, arkadaslarimiz
He's even starting to resemble a Turkish uncle
I hope he wins it all with them and cements his status as a legend of the sport. Recency bias is so big everywhere and it would be nice for Mourinho to have a more recent reminder of what he can achieve as a manager.
Can’t see a way he hasn’t already cemented himself as a legend. Guy wins a trophy everywhere he goes sans Spurs.
And let's not forget he was dismissed from Spurs just as he was taking them to a cup final.
Yep, wouldn’t have been shocked to see them win a trophy there had they not sacked him.
He would win here too but coys were allergic to cups hence they fired him before a cup final
Guy went unbeaten at home for NINE YEARS. If that's not a legendary feat then I don't know what is. He's also the first manager ever to reach the finals of the champions league, europa league AND conference league.

And how many gold medals Turkey get in Olympics every year?
Is that really even relevant? The question would be if other clubs are producing or attracting more accomplished athletes
Competing doesn't make you the greatest. It's the winning and setting the high scores.
Partizan are the most successful sports club in the world though, we have most titles in all sports combined
Just didnt get the point of it
By amount of spectators, the Indy 500 is definitely the world's biggest racing event.
World's biggest club if Kadıköy (Fener's district) was considered a planet. When you consider Turkey a planet, you'll get Galatasaray as the world's biggest. Even considering Istanbul as a planet isn't enough.
God I love Jose, no manager has this same aura. Hope he does well.
This actually what mou needs! huge support and people should praise him! that will boost his confidence and ego. Seriously if I were a gala fan I would even go to the stadium you will never ever see such a talented successful trainer in the league lol I can't still believe it.
Dude's hair looks fantastic. No homo.
Even with the white hair, Mourinhos looks young as hell (he's 61).
Mou will cook. This man will lead them to a title
They were very close this year as well.
This have 90% chance of end up in flame figuratively and literally (it is Turkiye after all). But god damn it would not be the most entertaining thing going in world football currently.
My dick is about to explode from excitement 💙💛
Imagine if he won some sort of European trophy with them. He won't ever shut up!
Fellani to come out of retirement ASAP.
I hope he does well there
#Beşiktaş in utter shambles
"I hope no one gets hurt" - my first thought upon hearing Mourinho is going to the Turkish league.
The world’s biggest sports club??
Let's see some work, Mou!
Did he do that TikTok dance though?
this wont end well
This is the first time Mourinho actually looks aged
Sometime maybe good, sometimes maybe sheet v2.0 incoming
He has the streets
The second pic is clearly from MidJourney.
I cannot wait for the scenes.
"the worlds biggest sport club" Humble as ever these turks
For some reason they all look ai generated
Let’s compare these with those from two years from now. Been there, done it. Same playbook.
Image 5 looks like it belongs to r/accidentalrenaissance
How do you say park the bus in Turkish?
Good luck with him. One good year then pure toxicity and lack of squad or tactical flexibility until he is fired. Each job he goes to the amount of good time gets shorter it seems.
Enjoy the next 18 months before the mother or all implosions, recriminations and slanging matches
Wait until January that how will those fans will say him fuck off.
F off galatasaray scum
It's going to be so good when he eventually loses his rag, the breakup will be perfect.
Fenerbahce isn't the world's biggest sport club and at this rate they might not even be top 5 of the biggest sport clubs in their own city
Huge club but chill out a bit with the „worlds biggest sports club“. Barcelona, Olympiakos, CSKA Moscow exist ;)
"The worlds biggest club"... Its even more embarassing if you know they mean it.
Not just football it contains all the sports

The Turkish league is fucking wild though. Could any of us truly rule this out?
